If every Gathering Gear piece sold had a corresponding crafted piece, then I'd be looking at using the RGS for Favors to craft stuff. As it is, I find that the better use of my time is getting the Gathering tools first, and that leaves me with excess RCS tokens. I really don't see anything to do with them but to buy a couple of MH crafting tools. I'm leaning towards the Leatherworker, and either Blacksmith or Carpenter tools.

Unfortunately, that means I'm more than a month away from being able to even try crafting anything, and that's only if I get lucky with the Favors.

so i need blue ooid for animal fats , searched Google to see if anyone knows anything (not that i could see) , went up to page 10 no one knows anything , so i said ok i sacrifice my own progress :D and be the lab rat and go check myself then share the results on forums ,i spent my one week work on favors and still have no idea how to get them because i didn't have enough info or red scrips , dont even want to think about bladeleaf or rest of them , its RNG inside RNG,inside RNG,that is gated behind red scrip cap :|
this is getting out of hand , their methods and their solutions its getting too complex and stupid!

you either dont know whats going on or you are not a crafter ,i dont see a challenge here , all i see is waiting , nothing but waiting for next week and weekly reset , nothing is difficult here , all i see here is bunch of new items with no hint on how to obtain any of them , you are suppose to go and find it out on your own only to see you dont have enough resources and have nothing to do until next week and another chance to try ,that may or may not work .to hell with it im even ok with waiting for weekly reset , i just hate how im runing around hours per day having no clue on how to get what i want and search google for hours to find a slight clue!

Couldn't you spend 200-250 RGS on Favors and save the rest for gear? The gatherer off hand is far from as large of an upgrade as the main hands, but you can get that in a week easily while still getting a piece of turn in gear the following week. That's my plan at least simply because 11 hours of favor farming is excessive but I'd still like to be able to work on the 2* stuff a bit.

But yea, I can understand that gatherers are kind of left screwed with now crafted alternative. What I'm interested in is when we can expect a new tier of gear. As of now all the stats prerequisites are met without the need for the new gear.

Blue Ooids can be found at the lv 60 Mining Nodes in the Dravarian Hinterlands, the nodes that have Hard Silver Ore. The way it works is that for every node you deplete there is a small chance that a "Concealed Node" will appear, you will receive a notification kinda like when you sell an item on the Market Board. You won't have to uncover the Blue Ooid on the first try, it be visible, gather the Blue Ooid and deplete the node by gathering the Clusters. Then move onto the next node. On average you're supposed to get 4 rare item per Favor.

A small trick is to deplete 4 of the 6 surrounding nodes to just 1 hit remaining , activate the Favor then collect from those 4 nodes. You'll save yourself the time for 12 - 15 swings. Run the clock out completely, even if you deplete the last node with 3 seconds to spare and the concealed node appears, it will not vanish when the time runs out :)

I could .. but ... we don't know exactly when the next major patch is coming.

Everyone knew that 3.05 was going to include new recipes (the rest of the 1 star, at a bare minimum). Everyone expected that there would be 2 star stuff, as well. Very very few expected the 2 star crafting requirements to basically be "max meld everything 3.0 BiS". Scoff if you like, but 718 Craft/695 Control is darn near "max meld everything".

At 9 tokens per week, if you ignore the Fishing gear, you are looking at 18 weeks (with a whopping TWO RGT left over) :
MH : 26
Hat : 12
Body : 18
Hands : 10
Legs : 7
Feet : 7
subtotal : 80
Total for both Mining and Botany : 160

I don't know what patch 3.06 is going to do. It may reduce the number of RGT required to obtain this otherwise-unattainable gear. It may increase the cap from 450 to 900 (effectively halving the time).

But does anyone realistically expect that 3.1, when it comes, won't have recipes requiring materials from nodes requiring this gear's stats? For all we know, and I half expect this, 3.1 is going to have the crafted i170 equivalent that gathering gear is currently missing.

My gathering gear is not melded in the best fashion. As it is right now, though, I am unable to obtain the Folklore RGS collectables with enough of a Collectability rating to be worth the RGS. That suggests to me that a gear improvement is certainly in order, and the MH tools are one heck of a place to start. I don't know that I'm going to get all of the i180 Mining/Botany gear. At this point I'm only planning out to six of those 18 weeks.

But I do know that either they are going to drop the Scrip system entirely, OR they are going to add new kinds of scrips. Green, Yellow, Pink, Purple, all rotating in and out as the Philosophy, Mythology, Soldiery, Poetics, Law, and Esoterics have done. *IF* they follow the same sort of pattern with Scrips as they do with the Tomestones, we are looking at what .. 3.15? 3.2? Before another Scrip is added.

At 3 months between each major patch, we're 11 weeks away from 3.10 ... and 23 weeks away from 3.15. That's only a difference of five weeks in which to gather Favors and still gear up with the bought Gathering gear.

Hopefully by then more people will be gathering and selling Favor node gathers on the MB at lower prices. I tend to doubt it though, unless 3.1 adds recipes that replace the current ones.

Everyone brings up very good points against this system, and it is indeed the endless waiting, RNG inside RNG, and an unrewarding journey that is mauling us.

I believe, for my part and some other mastercrafters I know (three of whom have quit due to this debacle), the sheer satisfaction of searing our name into the Master Craft monstrosities is our endgame. Sure, we can turn a hefty a profit after, but I'm convinced that a lot of this is for making all of our own gear out of pride and love for crafting. Gil is just another boon.

At this moment, the vast majority of us don't even have access to enough materials to even attempt the full synthesis for the 2* items. There aren't even enough ooids on my MB to make the processed mats. I started on Folklore and favour myself, and it's as infuriating as I've been told it is.

Edit: Incorrect comparison of crafted gear sets removed. I was looking at the NQ crafted versions of DoH gear, and then mistook them for the gear you get from Red Scrip turn ins. Apologies.

I didn't mean to come off that way. I had nothing melded when the patch dropped and I thought it was a bit stupid how much melding these required. The meld requirements wouldn't be such an issue if it weren't for Clam Chowder requiring fish, which tend to cost of fortune due to fishing. The Control melds are the real killers here. Clam Chowder combined with budget craftsmanship melds is very easy to hit those requirements.

As for the rest of your post, if they don't release crafted versions of the gathering gear and drop a patch that raises stat caps then it's going to really throttle the supply of materials for crafters, as you alluded to. As of right now the only major piece that you can make is the off hand and maybe the belt.

Basically you max control/CP and drop in one craftsmanship IV materia into everything to get the optimal stats. The exceptions to this rule being rings, chest, mainhand and offhand.

Note the set listed there does not use V materia, and is BIS for everything except Chest/Main/Offhand (which you can't max). This puts me at Craftsman 722, Control 700 and 402 CP. The extra CP is for a very specific macro which basically lets me macro craft new one start items HQ.

But you are right the melds are really aggressive. You could skimp some and do heavier mainhand/offhand melding. But that doesn't make sense as they are not shared.

As Gathers and Crafters you guys should definitely use garlandtools.org, it contains the HQ stats and the max possible melded stats for gear that hasn't even been made yet. It tells you where to get every single item in the game including the favor items, etc..

Never even had to guess or experiment on where to get the favor items. Also, IMHO the 180 Gear is the biggest waste of time and scrips. I already have the 170 Body and Hat made for Weaver and if the Ooids and other item prices keep dropping than getting the 180 gear becomes less and less worth it. The only thing I don't like about the system right now is the shear amount of mining/botany you have to do to get the favor items. Can go out there for 4-6 hours just to get the materials for one piece of gear. Other than that and the fact DoW/DoM gear is locked behind red scrips, I think everything else is fine. Maybe they should have included some crafted gather gear but w/e

As someone who intends to spend the first six weeks of 3.05 gathering Red Gatherer Tokens for the Miner/Botany MH tools, which are not available through crafting only these Tokens, are you suggesting I hold on to the Red Crafter Tokens for when I'm gathering the Ooids and such? I'd been leaning towards getting the MH tools for a couple crafting classes (LTW definitely, not sure about WVN or CRP or GSM) but I'd also been considering saving the RCT for materials when I start using Favors.

I had some leftover ooids on the MB at 750k just to store them really. They sold. As did my 3 HQ Heavensnuts that were listed at 1mil each. The prices actually appear to be going up as some crafters attempt to gathers these themselves. They then say F it and buy them off the MB.

This may lead to more people listing them to sell, causing the price to drop again, but right now prices are going up and not down.

I haven't seen anything approaching a reasonable price for favor mats yet. The minimum seems to be 300k per. Which means you're paying 6m per mat and 18/24m to try and craft a full piece. Still prohibitive in my eyes since there's very little ROI in sight.

The funny thing is that even if you used only rare mats with their 3 Rowena Crafting Token price tag you could still acquire a crafted main hand in half the time it would take to get the i180: 4 2* HQ mats = 12 Rowena Tokens; Masterkeep's are 26 tokens. If you do 2 HQ and 2 NQ you could get it in one week if you are able to gather all the mats yourself. Gatherers get the shaft though.

The guy that bought my ooids made a ring to replace the NQ he made with his mats. I can see it on the MB lol.

Some have been going for 50k on Moogle which is a price I'd be willing to pay, but there's no point buying them cos the equivalent turn in is 200-300k. And when you take into account that the new crafts are borderline pointless, the current prices are just stupid. They need to double or triple the amount of turn-ins per favour for it to become more viable.

I've bought quite a few of the materials on our server (Adamantoise) for 100k or close to that price. It's not on the Market board because I advertise in PF and my LS's

Actually, I bought one of the HQ (3 instead of 10) mats for 50k on the Market Board, the Bitter Foxglove thing, also I think a few other items sold for sub 100k.

Now I might have stated my previous comment incorrectly, the gatherer gear is worth buying with redscrips because its the only way to get an upgrade at this point. But the 180 Crafter gear is not worth it. Not because of the stats but because of how long it will take you to gear up a class doing that.

If you do 180 gear, you might be able to gear up 2 classes before its time to craft 3 stars.

If you don't focus down one class also, you might end up with no classes that meet the stat requirement for the 3 star crafts when they come out, so I think spreading your red scrips around to like 4-5 different classes while buying the red scrip gear is going to bite you in the butt.

I've been transmuting since Heavensward came out. People sell Their Dex 4s and Fire 4s for like 6k, buy those out every other day or so and transmute them. Even if you don't get a 5, you usually make your money back to even double it from all the Gatherer and Crafter 4s that the transmute seems to favor giving out.

I'm pretty sure theres a dozen other people on my server doing it and so I really doubt no one on your server has any 5s, our Server already has like 2-3 sold on the Market Board. (I sold a Parry 5 for 1.5M like last week). So thats how I got mine, I'm welcome to show you what I have if you come to my server but there really is no need for that.

One thing you should realize is that none of our servers have identitical economies. So 50k on my server might be a completely different amount of economic power on your server. But I can assure you there are a few items that have sold for sub 100k on my server's Marketboard. Really there is no reason to lie about it. I've bought a Bitter Foxglove for 50k and I'm pretty sure some other Fox Gloves have sold for the same price or less on the MB. Also, I can link other items that I have bought for under 100k but I really have no way to prove that to you that I paid less than 100k without going out and finding my seller and making you believe them, but again that would just be a waste of time. I have no reason to lie, and anyways that entire comment was directed towards Beck because he is actually on my server.

That's fair Ossom. I haven't really advertised for private transactions so maybe there is a viable market out there. I haven't caught anything on the market board under 250k personally and I check fairly regularly but I could have missed the window obviously.

There's been a few tier 5 crafting materias sold on the MB on our server. I bought one of them myself. I'm doing the transmuting thing as well but either I have really bad luck or you have really good luck because the only tier 5 I've managed is an ice one :( I do agree it's pretty low risk though since you get a fair amount of crafting/gathering materia that mitigates a lot of the cost. I'm not really letting the obscurity of tier 5 materia stop me from melding on my 2 star gear though. It could be a long while before there's a reliable source of them.

There are a few crafting V on Coeurl, and they range from 7million (low) to 15 million (high)
All together I think there are less than 10 crafting V's available.

But... Who cares?
There is nothing to craft with them anyway, lol

It'd be funny if someone bought it, considering an HQ Hallowed would have better base stats and be easier to meld than an NQ Astral.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing more of these mats on the board at a reasonable price (~50k each). I've farmed two off hands worth of mats and it's kind of tedious. I can understand the actual materials (ex: Purified Cokes etc.) having a large price tag as you are giving up both DoH and DoL red scrips to acquire those, but the ooids are easy to acquire.

Are the ooids locked behind scrips too?
Thought those came from favors, which required scrips to get.

I haven't bothered spending any tokens yet, just capping every week.

The point is, it's nice if it's working out for you but that doesn't mean it's working out for the rest of us. I'm not sure how 2-3 tier V's of some worthless stats like parry really matter for this discussion tho. All we care about is crafting tier V's. Transmutation isnt a reliable way to get them by any means.

Has a way to obtain tier V materias been figured out already? Is there a change to obtain them from converting ilvl 150 gear?

@Aeyis, actually, I got 1 Crafter's Command 5, 1 Crafter's Competence 5 and 2 Crafter's Cunning 5s, Thought I put the Command and Competence in a Wvr Body piece already. I think that matters to the discussion. If you wanna see the body piece, check the Adamantoise MB.

Anyways, this is starting to sound like i'm bragging and that's not really the point.

I'm just trying to say that you can get what you want if you actually go out and try to get it, I'm not saying its gonna be super easy or fast but its possible.

You don't need to pay Marketboard pricing on materials that rarely sell, advertise in party finder and you can usually get a discount when sellers have an immediate buyer. Along with that you can easily trade the materials you get for ones you need since you'll usually end up just under or just over the amount you need because SE screwed us with the favor system.

Along with this, Vs have been in the game for over a month now and they are definitely possible to get. They aren't gonna fall in your lap, you gotta go get them, if they are on the Market Board, they are gonna be super expensive. If you wanna be one of the best/first/most gear crafters on your server you don't need to be the richest, you just have to play smart.

I'm all for complaining, I mean sheesh I hate the new system but while we suffer through it might as well take advantage of it.

I think in concept the scrip system has potential. However, it currently isn't working either because the rate people acquire scrips is too low or people are hoarding their scrips/mats for personal use which removes the option for a pure crafter to buy the ooids off the board. The latter of course could be caused also by the acquisition rate being too low.

I think the current system is designed in such a way that turning a few nods/dials could fix a lot of the issues people are having with it, except for the lack of relevant recipes...

I agree with the first part, but the recipes I think are ok, if they were *a lot* easier to access the mats.

Like they don't want crafted gear to be used in raids... fine, but why make such insane gates on getting weakish gear.

Serious question but what was the reason for scripts again? Cause I still don't see why this system was needed at all.

Yes. Either make them incredibly useful (actual hard to make glamour HQ or bust, BiS battle equipment or on par with raiding items, etc), or remove the scrips system.

Probably because the DoH gear is gated by the same set of materials and they don't want people getting all those items right off the go. But yea, I don't understand why they make crafting into a full time job for little return.

That's true, but the fact they share the same mats makes little difference really, e.g. how many items for DoM/DoW Or DoH items have even been for sale in total? On my server it's less than 10.

My suggestion would be to:

Double red scrip gain from hand-in items for both DoH/DoL.

Reduce favor items needed to hand in e.g. 10 + 10 ooids/bladeleaf would become 3 + 3, roundstone/rare mat would go from 3 + 3 to 1 + 1.

Triple red scrip weekly allowance for DoH/DoL.

Ok those are some tweets I can be happy with if the script system HAVE to stay. (Pretty pointless system from where I'm sitting. )

It's already an 11 hour grind with the current favor time, and you'd be adding more...

The entire system just needs to be reworked from the ground up.

I actually think the cap isn't an issue for me. And I don't think the 10+10 is an issue. The rare mats I think are mostly pointless due to the x3 Tokens required to get those mats. I think it'd be more advantageous to have the rare mats either be an alternative (ex: you can submit 10 ooids or 3 rares to get a set of materials) or give you larger quantities (3/3 rares + 1 Token gives 2 sets of mats; or 3/3 + 2 Tokens gives 3 sets of mats). As of now 150 scrips is a lot to spend on HQ mats considering the 2* recipes are very HQable without them.

The convoluted design of the gathered mats is what I'd like to see tweeked. Currently you gather mats for scrips to buy buffs to gather the actual mats that you need. I could see 2 approaches that would make more sense and remove some of the pointless grind:

1) Red scrips are obtained as they currently are. Favor instead or a consumable that gives you the mats you'd have acquired. The current RNG as to how much you get per favor is maintained but the 11 our grind to get your mats is removed.

2) Every week you are allotted nine "leves" that you can consume. You'd pick a leve for any of the 5 zones for either Miner or Botanist and do your 15 min grind as usual. At the end you can turn in the materials for 50 red scrips or you can turn the materials in for the ooids/rares that you'd normal get for that zone (ex: the leve would have you mine Raw <color> Ooids and Raw <color> Roundstones).

It's hard to see where the error in the design is because we are going from a system where most materials were supplied by DoW/DoM classes with too many tomes to one where mats are solely supplied by gatherers. The system relies heavily on crafters/gatherers working together rather than all trying to be self-sufficient, but many crafters from my server refuse to do that.

Since when did gatherers *need* to gather favors? The problem with favors atm is that nobody is gathering them hardly, as they are not worth the time they take to get, but will lower hand in cost, people would start gathering and buying them.

You'd have more red scipes to do what you want with, those who wanted to grind favors could do so (and make a killing as they would sell well). Or could just do red scrip tokens and gear up faster.

I believe he is talking about how the triple DoL scrip weekly allowance you suggested would make it take three times as long to do all your favors, so 33.75 hours if people wanted to do all of their favors, since it would now actually be worth doing.
