lol it was so easy to just leave it at "Meh. Boring".

Can you quote me where I said anything about 'basic functions'? I believe I typed basic memory management, which once again is nothing to do with the server side interface and everything to do with the client side of things...
I'm still waiting for an explanation as to how the server side interface is to blame for all the things I mentioned, or rather their apparent inability to change or recode anything quickly. That's probably because you can't explain it with your supposed wisdom of serverside programming. But I shall continue to wait with anticipation!
Third coming, don't forget Vesperia (did that one get banned too?)
I know he's only trolling, just felt I should restate it considering it's genuinely the opinion of some.Quote:
AMAGAD GUYZ, ALL DEY BEEN WURKIN ON FOR 6 MONTHZ IS DAT 2 MINUT VIDEO?!
I AM UNDRWELMED.
This forum never fails to amaze me.
Meh. this revision is everything to them, this is what will qualify the game to be worth paying for, so they're going to get it right. Just let it rot in your hard drive for another month or so.
Also, drawing weapon while moving? /joygasms
This is what she said, she then outlined what the 'basic things' were. You going off on a tangent about story content and stuff doesn't really matter, because you were the one who commented on what she said, not vice versa. Go on, read the whole conversation back, or perhaps you're moving too fast to check it.
I actually agree with a lot of what you've said, but that is just a hilarious comment. You don't... talk to people much.. do you?
You just made me laugh out loud, hahahaa. Awesome post man. And actually she replied to me first, when I typed this:
We weren't talking about 'basic functions' at this stage, we were talking about the whole game. Last time I checked, there wasn't someone dictating what I was thinking when I typed something... I hope...
The speed at which you hit the enemies is slower than mashing your main attack button on the current system, but for all you people comparing this to FFXI, look at the rate you gain TP simply by swinging twice.
Also the TP had regain, not sure if you guys caught that or not. Though i think that's for their testing purposes
This video just made it more obvious to me that AA was a waste of time. The best thing was the new WS. If AA really took this much time to plan and execute, id rather them have spent it making more of the WS cool and unique, and adding actual content. AA doesnt seem to improve battle, pace, or anything really from that video.
Doesn't have regain. the Auto-attack was going off during buff animations and during weapon skill animations is looks like. FFXI had the same thing going on, but this looks to be constant no matter what you're performing. I imagine that will be changed when it's released.
your irrelevant again.
do you have something to say about the topic, or just cant help but try to engage me in your useless beef with me?
the focus of this letter is AA, and its underwelming, im not the only one saying, even people who want AA were less than impressed by its implementation, and would rather see some actual new content. Stop random hate and speak to the issues, or do the smart thing and say nothing when you have nothing to say.
anyone who thought auto attack was gonna look amazing and revolutionary was insane to begin with
its an automatic BASIC attack after all....
So... I know its been said. But all in all we've been waiting a hell of a long time for something good to come. I too don't have an idea on how long developing takes but I'm beginning to honestly feel this game is somewhat of a lost cause. Its almost been a year and no one can really say its great. (I'm actually for starting over though, but that would just take longer) The letter was extremely lackluster. One video and mentions of raid places. That's all it was. I mean, back in like March they started releasing art for the jobs. Why not do more of that? Give me a reason to be excited for your changes. They didn't even show all the jobs with AA. Whether or not development takes time they need to show us whats up. Because if anyone is still playing this game they deserve to see all the changes and deserve a letter thats longer than a paragraph. We are the only ones that are sticking around to give this game a chance they should take that into mind and know the longer they wait to show us stuff the more people they lose. I started in Jan, and since then I see Ul dah is about half or less populated. The other cities are completely barren. SE is beyond the "I want to suprise you guys with these fun things," they can't really afford to do that. We need info. I don't mind waiting longer, but I should be waiting for something substantial, which this isn't enough for the words they use to describe 1.18.
/sigh Idk, maybe they really are doing all they can and just have a really small staff? Even still, I can't waste my time doing the same 4 guildleves again and again and again. Goodluck SE, I'll come back when there is something to do/something interesting thats relevant to DOM.
EDIT: Rather than post again, I'm going to edit this one, to all of you that will say "Oh well, you should be leaving then." Or "Good riddance" or any variation of that. Know that you are defending a game that is boring and lifeless. Whether I leave or not doesn't change they game. In fact, it makes it worse for you ultimately. Enough people leave and it will cost too much and be canned entirely. Also why defend something thats not good? I understand loyalty but this shouldn't be about that. Loyalty was sticking with the game till april. Now we just look foolish for continually trusting someone it seems like we shouldn't. Yes you can say "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" but that doesn't change the fact that you're spending HOURS in a room filled with nothing.
What a load of bull. In the previous system you had the option to let text, that you found important, linger. It was a very easy way to communicate with that method. On top of that people use Ventrillo,Teamspeak,Mumble now for strategy. Which is far more effective for speedy tactic adjustments.
I really don't get why this should be so amazing to most of us. It basically doesn't change anything else than the fact that we're required to mash the a button at all times.
Yes it's good but that's sort of like the battle system most of us XI players have been using for years. I'm glad the basics of combat are finally coming up to speed with almost a decade old good game? No wait in XI battle basics had incredible amount of depth because of the elemental days effects, feng-shui, food and so forth.
This is like looking at baby toddler XIV taking it's first steps. On it's knees but still..
don't let the door hit you on the way out ^^
The video was pretty nice to see. Though I really hope that the Pugilist was just to show what the auto-attack looked like, as it was very sad to just see 3 of the same animation for the weaponskills, unlike the (very cool) Gladiator and Lancer WS they showed. I don't mind them using the overhead punch for one WS still, but 3 or more?
I would have liked more news on Jobs. <_< As important as auto-attack is for many people, it's a very, very basic feature in just about any MMO. It feels like they are trying to tout something very bland as being very exciting. I think what was more exciting in that video was the new WS animations.
So yeah, would have liked more info about Jobs.
People overwhelmingly dislike anything because they are ignorant. You are a minority if you are a person of intelligence in ANY everyday group or situation. A crap load of people disliked the party recruitment system saying that they couldn't type in comments and specifics or have class/rank requirements. Oh.. are all those things in the party recruitment? Hmm... I guess people are that gullible and believe the loud mouths (you) in threads like these.
Saying that most people think the way you do means nothing for that very reason. The FFXIV development team is loosely going to get your feedback, but they are not making the game for irrational people. I dislike some systems in FFXIV too and we are past looking at this game as being perfect. So, while you're unimpressed and hardly ever satisfied, ask yourself. Should you really stay? Cause all you're doing is complaining. I'm just trying to save you from yourself being a bitter gamer that makes it impossible for anyone to really like them.
You see tangent, I see meaningful words typed by the magical fingertips of an all-powerful warlock.
Lets be clear about what I meant - serverside coded or not, the coding was poor from the beginning. To put it simply for the wise sages in this topic, one of the goals on any new development project, and by that we mean coding a completely new system, is to make the system flexible. It should be open to future upgrades and changes, as required, with as little work and effort required as possible. This is good programming. This is forward thinking. It is a basic quality that is required in many fields, not just programming.
Now I'm told via the wires that I know nothing of basic functions. Well here is a basic concept for you - as I've just explained, everything in the game is so badly coded that it takes them forever to update or change even the simplest of things. This includes items such as the limit on the amount of members a linkshell can hold. I've been told that this is because lots of the game is coded to run server side. I mean come on, the total number of members for a linkshell is a 'basic function' right? If they can't even change that in their super epic complex serverside code, what hope do we have? There are plenty of server based programs in this crazy messed up world, don't act like this is the only one and that's why it's so hard for them to recode.
I think enough has been said though. A lot of the code being server side is irrelevant when it comes down to it. If it was programmed well, changing things would not be a mammoth task which it has shown to have been for them. This has a knock-on effect to the pace at which they can actually add content, which coincidentally also most likely suffers from delays due to the poor code they are working from if the rest of the game is anything to go by.
Mortals, let us not make excuses for them. We are all fans, or we wouldn't be here. But denying the simple truths will not make these problems go away.
The warlock has spoken. Now present your counter arguments, or forever admit defeat.
once again whether i stay or not is irrelevant to this thread, or this game. The reasons why people may choose to leave, and how they feel about this letter are relevant. Dont get mad at people for stating their opinions on the letter, or saying why they are happy or not happy about it, the point of the forum is to do that.
The reason i bring up other people is not to say they are smart, i bring them up to let you know, this is not one random crazy person.
My point was that AA really wasnt the problem with battle, and adding AA isnt going to make battle entertaining, some people felt like it was, but now with the video in their face it doesnt seem like it will. Hopefully the other changes with monsters, and npc groups, along with rebalances will, but this video doesnt make it seem that way. the damage is the same as normal, If anything it makes battle seem even less complex, i get the feeling that the goblin was basically a programmed training dummy, but still, its not really making battle look more challenging.
btw, dont really care if people really like me, and if im bitter im bitter. People will complain, when things arent up to snuff or they will leave, the person who is complaining is more useful to you as a creator, because even though they rain on your parade, they give you tangible feedback, that is useful. Im here to give real feedback, not just be encouraging and optimistic.
The good
Unique WS animations
The bad
AA seems to add little to combat, and from the video, seems to even take away some excitement
you dont like my opinion, i dont care, im posting so that the devs can get a real response, whether they do something with it is up to them.
The problem with your assessment is assuming that AA is the only thing geared towards fixing the battle system. Are there a lot of people not impressed with it? Yeah, of course. Are the people who like the looks of it? For sure. We can all state opinions all day long but only time will tell. AA is the priority for patch 1.18, but it is not the end of the battle system overhaul. That has been said before so if you are waiting for 1.18 to fix all the problem with the game, you are waiting only for your own disappointment.
This isn't as simple of a change as it may appear.
You can't just slap in Auto Attack and rip out the Stamina Gauge without restructuring how stats work, how enemies behave, the effectiveness of certain attacks, and pretty much everything that has to do with the battle system. Once that's done, they can move on to adding content that will complement the system. There's a ton of math and planning involved and I'd rather they not rush it.
Posted this in another thread several days ago, it applies to the new letter:
And again; cloak-and-shadow letter, no real progress report, subpar video of Auto-Attack (y'know what Diablo III has for a video of it's combat system? A fucking boss fight... Jesus.); lack of real communication with the playerbase; delayed patch, etc.Quote:
The problem is, the patch probably, as per SE's history, is not on schedule.
I (and many others) do not want some terribly worded/translated PR letter from some development team leader who in all likeliness, doesn't even write said letters.
What I (and others) want to see, is this example:
Patch 1.18 Progress Check List:
- Dungeon Implementation Complete
- Class Re-Balancing Complete
- Terrain Clipping Incomplete- further adjustments required
- Hardware Taxation Issue Incomplete- further investigation is required
I don't give a flying hell when the patches come, but to actually see a visible progress report instead of some inane, cloak-and-shadow letter, would be far more beneficial to the community than the crap we've been getting. We were promised updates, we are getting PR checks and formatted copy+paste replies. This is not helping their situation.
The one, and only thing that has been saving this game: "Final Fantasy"
Not innovative game design. Not good graphics. Not great controls. Not interesting content. Nothing, but the name on the title screen. And believe me, the majority are getting sick of that, too.
Um, guys? The patch isn't delayed. Am I the only one that payed attention to the part of the 9th letter that said patch 1.18 would be released in mid-June AT THE EARLIEST? According to that, nothing is late, it's not even the 15th yet.
Here it is for everyone who missed it:
Quote:
1.18 is going to be relatively bigger than previous patches. This means that balancing is going to take more time than usual, and so we’re anticipating a somewhat longer period between patches. Even if we break off some of the content and release it ahead of time in a 1.17b patch (which me might!), 1.18 will still go live sometime in mid-June at the earliest. Sorry for that.
Hi Physic,
Definitely empathize with you here. From the video, it seems like Auto-Attack is something underwhelming, but IMHO it's the foundation for a bunch of other things that are important, like developing "class uniqueness" that Yoshida-san has stated a few times (ever since Player Poll #2 results came out).
Starting at the core foundation of a new Battle System (with Auto-Attack and removing Stamina Gauge), the Player can now focus on Positioning in Battle (Lancer staying Mid-Range, Disciple of Magic staying Mid-Far Range, and Archers being really far, etc. We saw in the video the Pugilist stunning the Goblin and then running to the back of the Goblin to deliver another Weaponskill to kill it); In Letter from Producer X (and previously) there's been "Revision of crowd control actions" so who knows what this entails? It could be important where one stands in Combat in the future, and when to execute moves.
Add to the new importance on Positioning, you can focus on meaningful Buffs, Debuffs, Spells and Weaponskills and the timers for them, which is more interesting and important than one's basic "Light Attack" (1, 1, 1, 1, etc.).
Also, they've stated they're changing Battle Regimen (joy! :)), so if it's more like FF XI's SKILLCHAIN (Renkei) System, or something more active and require Timing (or something like Chrono Trigger's Combining different skill/spells to create something bigger and devastating), then this, also, is another reason Auto-Attack is a good thing. In other words, you don't have to worry about hitting "1, 1, 1, 1" ("Light Attack") all the time while you're doing the above.
There might be new Weaponskills, Buffs, Debuffs, that have different distances individually as well (in the latest Table of Changes, it's listed as "Adjustment of range of effect for actions" for Disciples of War and Magic). So maybe Weaponskill X is a Mid-Range Attack that will do massive damage, but if you're too close or far, it's ineffective. So you want to position yourself in battle to perform it. This benefits from Auto-Attack as well.
Could all of the above be done with our current Manual Attack? Sure. I think there are enough veteran gamers out there that they could spam "1, 1, 1, 1, etc." while moving around and positioning themselves, and then are adept enough to stop (hoping the game didn't buffer an extra Light Attack they were spamming), to wait for a proper time to jump in on a Skillchain, etc., but Auto-Attack makes it easier for those that aren't as adept.
Now if it turns out 1 year down the line, all we got is just an Auto-Attack, and everything else was the same (all the classes felt the same, same weaponskills, same, easy automatic Battle Regimen), then "yes," I agree that this Auto-Attack would seem to be a bit unnecessary and underwhelming.
But I'm hoping this is the start of the big changes to the New Combat System that Yoshida-san's been talking about for a while. Here's to hoping! :)
