Honestly, as much as I see where you are coming from, it feels different to me. I think its more likely that Yoshi-P has been spread too thin with all kinds of projects and responsibilities that he has no time to properly oversee the project that is FFXIV.
I mean, before DT released, he claimed that CS3 went too far with job simplifications, and during DT, some jobs were simplified even more. To me, that's either lying or not having any control over your team. Not sure which would be worse, to be honest.
The fast paced stuff can be quite nice, and parts of FF14 already feel close to action combat. Phase 1 of Chaotic is actually kinda up my alley, and I can see the appeal. For the future, I would hope that there is more than one kind of design paradigm that Square Enix can work with, to give players a wider variety of content. Not saying CS3 needs to completely stop doing what they already have been doing, mind you.
