Solutions to stop speedrunning

I was thinking about this on the way home from work, and my ideal solution personally would be to have iLvl sync on upper-end content. Speedrunning tactics are easy because you have so much goddamn HP/curative power/damage that you can actually do it, because you're bringing in gear that's 30+ levels higher than what was intended to be worn to do the dungeon.

You can't speedrun a place like Qarn or Aurum Vale. Well, you can try - but your success will be limited. It's because there's a maximum to the power you can bring in with you, which level 50 content simply doesn't have.

Passive-aggressive nonsense like this doesn't clear the dungeon, doesn't stop speedrunning, and doesn't improve your standing in the eyes of anyone. It is as selfish as you can get without, well, implicitly speedrunning. But at least speedrunning produces tangible rewards.

Consider asking the tank, how will you pull today? or make a straight request.
If you are the tank, state how you intend to pull from the outset. You control the flow of the dungeon, after all.

Don't be on either side of the problem.

DF is about playing with total stranger:
You know there will be unpleasant people.
You know there will be people forcing you to SR.
You know there will be drunk people.
You know how people are!

Oh also, there are bots in there too now!

If you think you can control how people will behave in DF(or anywhere), think again.
Duty Finder is about adapting to the group and play the best you can to make the team win. Not forcing your god damn opinions by saboting the team.

Party Finder is solving all of your problems! Use that instead and discriminate the people you dont like. Done!

That being said, I understand not everyone has a strong personality, not everyone is able to adapt, not everyone is strong enough to defend their ideas and not everyone is open to criticism.
But please, please, please, stop trying to soft cushioning stuff up. Dirty stuff are fun too!



EDIT: By DF I mean Duty Finder AND Roulette as they both force you to play with strangers. Don't do either if you can't play with strangers.

yes but the difference between speed and normal in Manor are tiny. Bayflox you can do with 4 pulls total and it's stupid.

If you really want people to be more willing to take their time then the only way to do that would be to make things less of a grind. Seriously think about it. Why do people speed run? Because it's not fun grinding for myth or sol for most people. They just want to get it out of the way for the week. And doing the same few dungeons over and over, week after week, gets old fast. Even if the dungeons are well designed and actually pretty nice this time. Haiti hard or whatever it's called was cool doing it for the first time. Doing it for the 20th time? 50th time? Etc. Not so much.

They should give a lot more myth per dungeon. A lot more. Make capping your tomes not a chore by making it something you can easily do at your leisure. Then people would be a lot more willing to take it a bit slower in dungeons.

Try any method to make it harder to speed run, however, and people will just all find the next fastest way. It will ALWAYS solve nothing to try and prevent speed runs if the root problem of tome grinding being a huge chore still exists.

Now, I know there are people who are going to be like "Hurr durr MMO HAZ 2 haf teh grindz" or whatever. Fine. Keep the grind, deal with the speed runs. Can't have it both ways. You can't. People will always want to get their chores done as fast and efficiently as possible. That's why we invented things like washing machines instead of sticking with cleaning our clothes by hand using a washboard.

This, SE has tried this and never worked, players are always finding another way to speed run. It doesn't matter if you make mobs tougher, that will just make it less new player friendly. You can stack mob groups up, very geared players will AOE them down fast. There's nothing you can do then just accept it.

Virtually any quote taken out of context can misconstrued.
I DF all the time. It is VERY VERY VERY rare that I have a problem with the team that I enter in with on the dungeons I land into.
Since you singled out my one comment out of context, I just want to clarify that if I enter a dungeon as a tank and no one communicates, or the only thing said is "go", then Im inclined to just pull how I wish to, and if DPS or healer decides to pull more (again, only if no one has started some dialog) I tend to let them take on what they pull for a little bit while I hold the other mobs, and then ask if again if they want a faster run.

I have never rage quit, never belittled and in fact, more often than not, will take 20-45 minutes to help people through a dungeon discussing details and such but only if they want them. If Im in a sour mood, I wont even go into DF.

I think it really boils down to what you want to do and how you want to play. In DF I always let them know how I pull and if they are good with that. If they can't 8/10 they speak up, or we wipe lol.

Generally I go into DF with the mindset that it is not a speed run. It is a normal run. If the others bring up SR then I am in to win. SR's are saved for PF groups where you can get optimal setups for the duty.

If you don't want to SR, don't set your PF up that way, clearly expressing, NORMAL RUNS.

SE won't change it, as stated above, we will work around it.

On a side note, I prefer to SR when possible. During the week after work I have only a few hours of play. I need to hit tome caps etc, so SR's help out with that.
