Well, seeing that heigth comparison just killed my hype for male viera... I would never play something as short, we are asking for male viera, not hobbits, that serously looks like a whole different race...

No. Some were discussing how they wanted Alphinaud's model as a base. Others were discussing it might be an ethical issue over seas.
From what I have been reading, it appears that the people on the japanese forum prefer a more slim body type. This is just an assumption, but those likes on the buff pics are probably mostly from the NA forum right now lol
I personally like it.
You'd be surprised. I don't care too much about the height. My primary concern is the thinness of male viera. Although if they're around the same height as the females, or even a tad shorter, that'd be fine too.
That's what I've been saying this entire time man. Omega m as a base would be ideal.
hit post cap just fyi
Whatever you say is your business, and I'm not trying to police what you say, but on the japanese forum, you're sort of violating a social norm. The japanese tend not to be confrontational. Occasionally, they'll make posts disagreeing with each other, but for the most part, they only voice what they would like, and not confront others. In fact, they were having an argument earlier about this very thing in that thread.
Agreed.
I'm not talking about body types or anything at this point. What I'm trying to say is that the japanese have a certain way of discourse on their forum, and... well, nevermind. If they get angry, they'll get angry lol
LOL omg I really dislike this posting limit
I'll just be back later.
I wouldn't say it's 'perfect'. It's virtually no different a Miqo'te other than having bunny rather than cat ears. Something a bit more different would be preferable. If that's what some you want, you can get virtually the same effect by sticking the bunny ears from The Gold Saucer onto a Miqo'te.
I doubt anyone is going to be surprised by that statement, given your established preferences.
They're not wrong.
At this point I've kind of made peace with Omega-M as a base. It's not too far from the concept art (max... that.... muscle slider!) and adheres to what Yoshida's had as his go-to description for male Viera.Quote:

Which is a completely separate debate from how tall they'd be. I'm hoping that between their tendency to make the guys taller, and the negative feedback regarding the Au Ra height differences, that they won't indulge in it too much.
Yeah, the nose is off. It's one of the things I like about the female Viera models, they do look rather bunny-ish.
The lesser evil =\= ideal. I'd still much prefer male Au Ra as a base.
Well, no - you couldn't. None of the artwork for Viera men that has been posted looks remotely like a Highlander. Meanwhile, a lot of the artwork posted for 'smaller' Viera men is quite objectively just a Miqo'te look-alike with bunny ears stuck on. Let's not be disingenuous.
I dont want Viera to be like any Miqote or Highlander body. Thats why these 2 exist and we can fantasia to them anytime.
I'd rather want Viera to be what our giraffes cant be. Some good looking slim race (with muscle slider, I dont mind). Just with better proportions and physics and better faces, and a fixed neck. So basically something unique, the height... well thats something to discuss for.
Senn, stop, take a break, come back later. We can't all keep going back to that one post like a black hole amalgamation of the debate that came after it.

I think that's a subjective viewpoint. Miqo'te are actually relatively muscular. Maybe not like Highlanders, but they have v-shaped, athletic, classically handsome, heroic physiques reminiscent of a typical shonen hero. Think Deku, or Naruto, etc. etc. I'd even go as far to compare them to the likes of Indiana Jones or Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible, too! The thin Viera fanart that I've seen mostly hasn't looked like that. What are Highlanders but tall, muscular humans? That's what the muscular versions people draw also look like. Ergo, you put the bunny crown on a Highlander, and it's the same idea. Let's not be disingenuous.
While I can't speak for Theodric, my problem with that particular fanart is the face shape. Going at least by the female Viera models, that fanart's face is much more Miqo'te than it would ever be a Viera. Then you also have the face paint which is similar to things that already exist on Miqo'te.
I feel like the debate has needlessly expanded beyond that particular fanart to race generalizations, but maybe it's just me ^^;
First I want to clarify why I'm participating in this discussion. It's for two reasons: 1. It's fun, and 2. It's my twisted way of helping to keep this thread visible. Though admittedly, there are probably better ways to go about that.
Regarding your main point, I can see why that would be an issue, but you have to remember that this is just fanart. The devs are likely not going to use any of it as official concept art and they'll likely want the guys to match up well with the girls. They'll probably make them look somewhat rabbitlike, but who knows. This is assuming they even develop them at all. So yeah, this debate is entirely pointless. It isn't just you.
Some more artwork i found yay! (gonna edit the artists later, since haven't found them right now)
I personally like this very much! gives him character (also the typicall viera bunny-nose \o/ )

lol after reading the jp thread i think they got their own version of Senn with this cat-cat guy, no offense, just seemed funny.
I just hope they dont make viera that short, or we could be getting the same thing Tera got in the west with the Elin, gear and body censorship <.<
Ah sorry, I didn't realize you were talking about my post in the JP thread, is was commenting on your "I like it comment" lol. And yes I'm aware of what I did but i have no other way to express my opinion as I cant wirte Japanese, if I see someone feels offended I'll ask a firend of mine to translate my opinion.
Edit: >< double post, what a waste /facepalm.
Can you guys stop posting images to the Japanese thread?
It's not like we need to be enlightened!
I'll just leave this here too.

I'd be very happy if Viera men looked like that. Classically handsome and somewhat beefy, yet not overly so? Sign me up!
It helps that they actually look imposing enough to match their reputation as fierce defenders of the forest.
I wouldn't exactly say no to that either. Though hopefully not looking like he does in Conan Exiles, maybe more classically handsome, (most depictions of him looks like he has abit of neanderthal DNA goin on) plus square could never get away with the level of nudity in that game!
Less beef too, Maybe more of a swimmers, rowers or figure skaters build! Lean! You know like in the artwork I posted!
Though I do like the Castlevania anime vibe the other art work has too!
Everyone wants butt sliders but imagine getting those types of sliders like in Conan exiles and Saints Row! haha!
Please add male viera and female hrothgar, SE.
Genderlock is lame
You guys really shouldn't post on the JP thread, leaving a like is fine but let them organically have conversations, spamming or inserting yourself into a conversation without any other context than to post an image isn't a good look and can be confrontational. Also I get stating your opinion and disagreeing but there hasn't even been confirmation about whether male viera would be added or not. There's little reason to get bent out of shape if someone posts pictures or makes content for a design you do not like as long as they aren't breaking ToS, it just comes off as you not wanting anything added unless it's pin point to what you desire which ACTUALLY seems entitled.
Let the devs figure out whether they want to add it in and how it will look, talking about what you'd like is fine but there's no reason to have an entire episode about how disappointed you are that someone drew a short or tall or beefy or not traditionally handsome male viera, and how you'd rather it not be added now.
Practice some civility.
Don't bully the Jp forums they too lust for male Viera
So, it's been over a week. This means a couple things.
1) Yoshi-P has been briefed on the top thread of the week, which is this.
2-A) Yoshi-P and his team are busy forming a response, one that is either confirmation of genderlock removal (seems unlikely) or at least that they hear us and are considering (more likely).
OR
2-B) Yoshi-P and his team have decided to ignore it hoping things will die down, so they can relegate Male Viera to the trashcan.
I think 2-B is much more likely, simply because reversing the decision would make Yoshi-P's team look bad, internally. It'd be admitting to their superiors that they made a really bad decision (which they did) in not implementing both genders.
It's important then to keep up the noise until there is a response. Do not let the noise die down. Keep bringing it up until there is some kind of response which lets the base know that decisions are being changed. If they do announce that they are reviewing the situation, it's important not to quiet down. MMOs want long-term customers more than anything, and so they want to keep people happy.
My assumption is that they're still gathering feedback and preparing their statement on the matter. There's wildly different expectations for what Viera men should be and I imagine that applies to Hrothgar women as well. Furthermore, even if they do decide to go ahead and add them to the game it should not be rushed due to the risk of an unsatisfactory end result. I honestly don't expect anything until 6.0, or at least not until Shadowbringers is around the halfway point. I also wouldn't want any other planned content to be scrapped or delayed to make room for them.
I'm actually wearing a Kobold Brown dyed Bunny Crown on my male Elezen at all times, and I think I've become an annoyance on Reddit unfortunately with how often I bring up male Viera. Those ears aren't coming off no matter what I do until we get male Viera! Never give up! (Even if people hate how passionate about it you are, lol.) XD
I’m surprised we haven’t heard anything yet on this topic. How long on average does it normally take for a response on something like this?
I suspect, as Theodric also said, that they're still looking over feedback. There's also the consideration that any news/discussion/updates moving forward should be carefully and tactfully written with as much clarity as possible, all the while not making solid promises (because nothing is guaranteed for good reason). The worst that can happen is taking their statements out of context, or if they overreach and make a promise that they can't fulfill. With all that in mind, they're probably treading lightly and with great care regarding any response to male Viera/female Hrothgar.
MALE VIERA!!! AND FEMALE Hrothgar BUT FIX THAT MALE Hrothgar SO HORRIBLE.
