WHM can do that because they have lots of ways to get you to full from less than half. They also have Holy which applies an AoE stun so you're taking less damage as a result of it. On a SCH you're getting a lot of shielding and preemptive heals like Excog which never lets you go below 50% by design so even though you're getting hit for the same amount of damage it doesn't look like it. AST is in a different place entirely, since they have the least effective damage kit and aren't quite as good as either WHM or SCH at rescuing from the brink of disaster, so an AST is more likely to heal a bit more conservatively and focus on card buffs.

So the first boss right, has a the stack marker that leaves the dot aoe on the ground. If I recall correctly, these burns only stay on your chr if you stay in the ground aoe. Sometimes when I run The Twinning, I will get the second stack marker (usually as dps). What I like to do is staying on that ground aoe with the stack marker, that way it just stays in one place and we have more room in the arena to deal with everything else. Problem is...I don't think anyone shares that mentality and rightfully so. The only reason I bring it up now is because I think I may have caused a potential fart across the party when they saw me just standing in the fire and no one followed me. "Omg, another player who doesn't know how stack works" they probably thought, meanwhile, I'm just like "Come on into the fire for a couple more seconds guys, it's great!"

Does what I do outweigh the pros? Does it have more cons? Should I just play it safe next time and just drop the second marker elsewhere? (Just for reference, I do this when the first aoe is dropped near the top because the tank usually gets it first).

It feels to me like it should be obvious but maybe I'm the only one who thinks so.

Imo both ways are fine. If there are two melees I'd highly recommend using the tactic you did (assuming healer is competent enough to not freak out over the burn damage). But I'd say if there are two range or only one melee the other way isn't bad either bc there is still plenty of room to move, positionals, and keep markers from the tanks.

But that's my opinion and I just go with the flow. If I see the persons with the stack marker remain in the fire I'll stack, if not I'll follow. To me I feel that both ways are equally fine so I wouldn't sweat it.

I assert my dominance I take off my tank stance and shirk the healer, but that's a pretty ballsy move, rejecting a flat DPS buff.

Just ran The Vault with a very nice AST in our party. When we hit the second boss, the guy had prepared his dimensional rift swing (that pushes you to the wall where the black holes are) so I moved out of the AOE and so did the AST. Everything next seemed to happen in slow motion. I noticed that the AST’s foot was slightly in the AOE and they were in the middle of casting something. And I thought “oh no... are they not fully out of the way?!” And all i could do is watch in horror and the AST went flying past me, directly into a black hole for instant death.

It's actually the truth, and I have several screenshots of me staying 30-40 minutes in dungeons, I didn't leave. It takes a lot to make me actually leave a duty, I do do it, but it's really rare. Even when I have accidentally queued a dungeon that would reward me nothing as a healer, I have stayed the entire time rather than leave. Not only that when other people leave I am usually one of the last to actually leave. Why would I even bother to kick players? It's completely true that I never initiate kicks on anyone, and I actually decline kicks even in alliance raids unless I think the kick is actually worthy.

I am not "elitist" at all, I hardly even do endgame content - I'd rather do that with a group of people I know, however it's not like I even try to apply to some static or whatever. I play this game almost entirely solo. - I'm in an FC with a couple friends I've known for years from SWTOR. I do extremes frequently, but that's because I want to collect the mounts that come with them. If someone is trying to equate "you need better gear", or "do aoe" with "elitist", that's hilarious.

My posts are extremely tame. If you want to see what I am actually thinking, or would actually like to post you can find that in my discord DM's. I would be banned immediately if I insulted people like some people here in this thread, funny that. I have never reported someone in-game (don't even know how to), nor even blacklisted a single person.

Well, I won't lie. I occasionally right-click report RMT spam in chat.

You know what, we were being a tad mean to that person. Granted, they were feeding us with their off the wall posts which we all descended upon pretty roughly. But what I don't understand is why so many people are coming out of the woodworks to say that you're really mean on the forums. I half wonder if they're getting you mixed up with Wynn Storm. Then you don't understand how percentages work.

If you're doing say, 1000 damage, and the other DPS is doing 500 damage, then that buff is going to be TWICE as effective on YOU, making the dungeon go quicker.
Given that an ASTs buffs are the ASTs form of damage, they are going to put it on the most effective DPS for more damage.

You're arguing aginst someone who asserts their dominance by running content that's at least 50 ilvls below him and outdpsing players that are 50 ilvls below him in that content :rolleyes:

Honestly so what if they don't like peloton? It's not like we are talking about someone who is purposefully not using abilities, because they don't think the animation is cool enough. Blown way out of proportion, there were like 6 pages filled with it instead of stories, and 2 of this. I'll add, when I criticize someone in-game, I am frank, and to the point. If they have bad gear, I say "you need better gear", not doing aoe "why aren't you using aoe?". If we wipe, unless they something I say nothing, and keep pulling as tank, if we wipe and I feel like it was my fault I say "I'm sorry" or "my bad", sometimes I'll even explain "I should have been focusing on this or this instead of this or this" etc. I am sarcastic, not mean.

That's exactly why have taken up my attitude. The community is just a bonus. In-game, duty finder has so many ridiculous happenings on the daily. I usually only post about the standouts. I go in expecting a bad experience every time. One reason why I don't bother kicking players, and another reason why I won't leave. Like, if I leave I have a 30 minute timer, then I'll have to wait on a queue, and then what if my new group is even worse, or the player is worse? You never know, so I don't bother; not worth it. I Complain and joke about it occasionally in this thread, and all the time with my friend over discord. Those conversations I would love to share, but I would be banned on the spot for them.

Also, for the record last time I leveled a DPS through all the ShB dungeons, I know for a fact I was actually pulling considerably higher than most people I have seen in dungeons on the reg.. Just an educated hunch. :o

Decided to finally level Dragoon, sitting around level 35 and try a levelling roulette. Got Sastasha... fine I guess. PLD/SCH/PGL/DRG Everything seems fine, tank puts their stance on and off we go. Tank pulls two groups, thats pretty good considering PLD is only one with AOEs.

Mid fight, PGL runs off to look at the Red, blue or green note, or so I thought. We finish without him. Make our way to the Jellyfish, tank pulls two groups again, when the PGL sprints by and pulls everything in the Clam caves. Tank doesn't say anything, but I say what the hell... Scholar replies? "Don't be pissy, I am fine with it." Ok but it's more about what the tank feels and not what you feel. But whatever, I shut my mouth. PGL dies of course.

We get to the Coeurl boss and wait for the PGL to get the right color coral. And wait. and wait. Finally I just pick one at random and the tank does too. We keep moving only for the PGL to keep pulling everything, tank stop outside the Captain+dogs boss and says the classic "You pull em you tank em". PGL then stops doing anything and I struggle along to kill it all because Scholar is only casting heals.

PLD left after the fight of course, which I then also bailed. I will never understand why people do this. If you don't even have an AOE skill, what do you think pulling a ton of enemies will accomplish?!

Do people purposely try and kill DRGS? O_o
Everyone seems to make it their mission to kill me as a DRG.
And I never really see any of them anymore...
Maybe they're tired of this meme life lol...

I know it's just RNG but holy crap EXDR, please stop giving me the final MSQ dungeon ;-; I think I've had it selected ten times in a row via EXDR now.

Technically this method is the objectively-correct way to handle the mechanic, especially with the limited usable space in that encounter. Unfortunately you're going to find that DF parties, by and large, aren't going to want anything to do with it because players are trained to specifically not stand in things like that.

I have a macro for the beginning and end of every duty I do. Just a hello and goodbye thing. Easier for me to click than to type out.

I'm working on lnc/drg on one of my characters, who is also level 80 whm (finished story). Level 25 so still lnc, no job stone. Queue for dungeons and guildhests. Pop into the turtle guildhest, click my hello macro.

My fave is the Academia for the music and atmosphere plus
the final boss is amazing. :/

If you see this, maybe consider the fact that you actually have a new person running the instance?? Instead of being a jerk face maybe explain mechanics if I'm getting it wrong?? Oh I forgot, standard is to watch a guide and be absolutely perfect the first time otherwise you're garbage. SMH!! :mad:

Except when you do ask (which I did) you get met back with radio silence! And then you get an overambitious asshole of a tank who couldn't take a minute of their stupid day to explain what I was doing wrong! I'm so so sorry but it's either damned if I do or damned if I don't in this instance! Sorry for being new to the effing instance, I'll make sure I memorize that guide verbatim so you can shave off that 3 - 5 seconds for your speed run! :D

I generally go about in silence but when asked as you did i would stop no matter what role i am playing and type out the explanation, i'm a slow typer though so takes me a little while.

Got out of an Expert Roulette where the tank was complaining about DPS being low the entire time. We finished Akadaemia Anyder within 15 minutes.

Far more often than not, when I was new and would ask if there was anything specific I needed to do, the response I was met with was "don't die". SO very helpful. :P

Very rarely did someone say something like "watch out for ____, it will ____", so yeah... I find no issue with what Violet_Galaxy is saying. They're valid complaints.

Can confirm i had to deal with this too at one point. its even better when they act condensending because you're the first time tank and then complain when you don't mass pull a dungeon you've never done before.

i usually say "You gon die" but i still give out what to look for.

Most people will tell you what to do if you ask. A very small number of players won't and those players, more often than not, don't know what to do either.

If someone says "I'm new here any mechanics I should look out for?", unless it's a fight I think could wipe us, I say nothing - well sometimes I'll say "you should be fine". If we start having trouble, because of something stupid, that's when I actually say something. People should learn through doing anyway, I went in blind my first times too.

Was in a dungeon (Qitana Ravel to be precise) with me (ast) friend (dnc) a gnb tank and brd. The dots kept falling off we noticed and so my dnc buddy mentioned they could use iron jaws...

In case you are not aware of the bard toolkit, what he would be missing at that level since he had not done his quests would be:
The Wanderer's Minuet
Empyreal Arrow
Iron Jaws
The Warden's Paean
Sidewinder
Refulgent Arrow
Basically, his entire damage toolkit to make him viable.
...He was level 76..This was a 76 bard and he was missing all of the above because he did not do quests cause it was too time consuming.

Well if it's newer dungeons, it's nothing you haven't seen before really.
They will just tell you to video it because they don't feel like wasting time sitting and telling you things when they can fight.

On one hand, these new dungeons, even from like 60+ are nothing you haven't seen before.
On the other, these mechs are also easy enough to say "Watch for X and Y" too.

I don't say nothing anymore because people don't listen no ways.
