That is good thing to discuss and see what could happen and how it could look. It will be interesting to see what kind of take they would have on male veira if they do get released in the future.

To add one more thing, I would respect the dev's decision on how male viera would look like, no matter the form. As long as we get male viera, I would be happy. I feel like a lot of people in this thread feel the same way as well. Even if we disagree about how we want male viera to look, the common denominator between us is that we want male viera.
If anyone cares to know, in the japanese thread, they are also discussing buff vs thin male viera right now.
The game is conspiring against me. Out of all my Mentor roulettes yesterday I got Omega 12 like 5 times. It's like it's questioning me. "Are you certain this isn't the male Viera type body you want? Imagine it with bunny ears"
As I said before - slam that muscle slider to max. And ofc change the face to fit with that bun-bun nose. But ya we could do much worse even if I'd still appreciate some broader shoulders.
Also I was trying to come up with some low quality April's Fools joke for this thread but ended up breaking my own heart in the process so nah
Yoshida himself described them as slim, elegant and handsome. Which doesn't mean that they will not have muscles at all, of course, but it seems like at least Yoshi think about them like about wood elves, kind of? So there is low chance that they could be bulky (as Roe or Highlander, for example), more like something between Miqo'te athleticism and Elezen slimness, imo.
That's quite interesting. I honestly wish there were more exciting things going on in my server. The most I've encountered is this one dancing Miqo'te who's permanently parked in Limsa. It confuses me. I also see couples here and there hugging and stuff. Sometimes I'd get cat girls trying to interact with my dude, but that's about it.
You're right though. ERP isn't restricted to one race. And like another has said, you can bet it'll happen with the current upcoming two races, genderlock or no.
But back to the topic, Senn mentioned a similar discussion regarding body types in the JP forums. I wonder what the majority of them would prefer. I just want them in the game at this point lol.
I think Roe would be pushing it, and as I mentioned before, that particular niche just got backup in the form of Hroths. I know Matsuno, albeit probably jokingly, presented Highlanders as a model, so I wouldn't rule it out, especially since they were quite built in That Concept Artâ„¢.
Now the question is how will they do the split. Because it's easy to imagine this following separation:
Roes and Hroths are the big, beefcake daddys.
Au Ra and Highlanders, while in different height groups (or at least have a noticeable gap between them), are more on the built side. This is more obvious for Highlanders than for Au Ra because Au Ra are taller and have more of an hourglass figure, but they can be quite built.
Midlanders and Miqo'te are the shorter, ranging between smooth and weakly, to lean mean short killing machines - but still more so in muscle tone than muscle mass.
This leaves male Viera to be matched up with male Elezen. But I do still hope they'll pump them up a bit compared to male Elezen, and add some differences in build to better accent the fact these are two different races.
I would say they are more interested in slim and elegant look, but can't say the exact rate. Some people intrested in 9s/Alphinaud body type, and there where buffed/not buffed discussion actually begins. There are people who are against of Shota kind race (I can inderstand them) and they point out that while Lalafels have irrealistic proportions so it's fine, having actual "child model" is no-no from ethic side (and this I can understand too). Though I'm not fluent at all, so can to misunderstand a lot of things in their messages.
Well I like the OP post. Not that big anymore and maybe a bit more neutral.
Which races to really fit those statements? I mean yes its true in the glamour department (which could be a bit more masculine in some cases) but for races? Lalas and maybe a short male kitten are the only ones that might fit into that. Every other race is either large and/or muscular. And on top of that we are also getting the Hrothgar which are large and really beefy. I am quite curious which race you would count into the slim or even androgynous category.
I'd like to point out something though and I'll be posting it here because the other thread is getting burned.
While I understand the enthusiasm of the players who want mViera, even I do think its not needed to create multiple threads over and over again. Its just getting ridiculous and you are feeding people that love to abuse their chance to leave a "hate" comment.
Why did Hrothgar happen? Cause they made a big uproar? No not at all, they happened because small number of players wished for a different race that wouldnt be "humanoid" like. They didnt come to the OF and spread anything, they just waited patiently.
And I do ask the same of you, just wait. These decisions cant be fallen just in a moment. Let the devs/YoshiP take their time and decide if the resources will actually be worth to create the opposing genders. Do not wait for it to happen, you are just hurting yourself.
After all, if resources were short we wouldnt have mHrothgar/fViera and the expansion still looks promising (content wise).
Meh, this thread is about this thread. the other thread is about the other thread.
And the fact that genderlocking in itself is seen as a inappropriate solution could be seen as its own conversation. Regardless of the excluded gender, genderlocking can have some unintended side effects that hit upon more than just character creation.
That might be the case but this thread doesnt benefit only from the pro Viera players, but players that dislike the genderlocks and/or support fHrothgar. I do think there is no need to heat up these endless discussions. Beside people that oppose the idea or seek discussion end up in here anyway.
I just wanted to add my voice to the "we don't like gender-locking races" and "please consider introducing male Viera" discussions :D
Square-Enix doing gender locked races is nothing new it's been done before.
I bet at some point someone will make all female Viera free company and will name it "Playboy". In the whole free company will be one male Lalafell or something.
I just wanted to throw SE my support on locking the genders. Like most I don't really care, but most of the male characters and outfits look stupid in this game so I'm glad I don't have to look at them prancing around.
I don't see why people have an issue with erp when you have a blocklist. If its not something your interested in ignore it. You play the game your way and lets others play their own way.
I want to show my support to Male Viera and Female Hrotgar. I was very disappointed to see this decission and while I can understand that doing the counterpart will be costy, genderlock is not inclusive and I don't want that in nowadays gaming industry. I do not support genderlock in FFXIV. I will never be okay with that.
I was really happy to hear that Yoshida was firmly against genderlocking in 2.0 and this with the fact of no racelocking (which is the main reason I didn't play others MMo's with that restriction) were the reason I started to play in FFXIV. I love this game, I really do. I wouldn't be commenting in the forum otherwise. I read and know a lot of people that dreamed to play as a Male Viera for so long. I also know some girls that wanted a female and beasty race. I think that Eorzea is an amazing world because you can be whatever you want and express yourself in many ways. So please, Square Enix, let FFXIV to continue that way.
The only main reason as to why I can think they don't want Male Viera might be simply because the race isn't an original race to FFXIV.
The FFXIV dev team might not even have control over how they create the race due to rights being with Square-Enix and the creator of Fran/Viera race from FFXII if they deem the race only to be shown as female then there's nothing the 14 dev team can do but even if that was the case the dev team should be a little more open about it.
I for one ain't too bothered about the whole matter as others are as I'm never going to change my character anyways and it just seems like a minor issue compared to other things which have a far more larger impact on the game, I'm more worried about actually new/fresh varied content coming from the new expansion without it feeling like the same old boring formula from previous expansions.
The creator of viera has come out and said he didnt give a "no males" order.
(Though I forgot where the tweet was so someone more savvy will have to find it for you)
In this case, not talking about you but in general who brings up resources, people do not dislike genderlocks, but rather new races being introduced and implemented into the game.
I mean, it seems quite okay that mHrothgar and fViera is playable in 5.0, but it would be a waste of resources to see opposite genders?
Sounds to me like some people are rather just extremely salty and try to use every small excuse to counter what people wish for.
I can also say fViera and mHroth should of used for better, new content. But I am not. Why? Because there are players who enjoy it.
So maybe some people should just sit down and chill their butts.
And why can't we be bothered by both? FFXIV makes enough money for Square that they can damn sure put more budget into this game. I want more varied content for this game, but I also want a removal of gender locks on races. That's not asking for a lot. Worrying about one doesn't negate the other. Plus, they may start with limiting jobs, and then limiting races, but what will they limit next? We pay a monthly subscription for this game, we don't deserve to have the game be limited.
Here is a reddit post with a link to the tweet: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...valice_series/
This proves that they can't use Matsuno as an excuse, even he said he had no part in the decision.
Ah ok I wasn't aware of this since I haven't seen it myself.
I'm more neutral tbh if they don't add males then I'm fine with it but if they do add males then I also fine with it just doesn't really affect me with either choice.
At the end of the day are players going to quit the game because of it? I don't think so and that is why I say its minor and why I mention the content from the new expansion as an example as that's going to probably going be the main reason why I'll be still playing for another 2yrs not because of character creation restrictions. (even tho I've seen players saying they are quitting over genderlocked races)
Also everyone has their own wishlist of things that they want to be added to the game but not everyone's wish can be granted or in this case if they do decide to add both genders in the future its just not going to be priority at this very moment.
If u read my post I said "I" not "everyone" other players can be bothered about both I never they can't but I'm sharing my opinion on it and it doesn't affect me either way if they add males or not as I stated I'm never going to change my character so it's only natural for me to care more about other things in the game.
Also limiting jobs already kinda exists because you can only focus on gearing one of your jobs due to the tomestone weekly restriction on new expansions/updates. If you want to do the latest endgame content you have to limit yourself due to the tomestone limitation.
I keep seeing that and I feel like people misunderstood what Yoshida said (not you specifically, generally). All four race-gender combinations were never an option, is what it looks like to me. That's a misunderstanding born out of us getting two "races" now.
We got one race - two genders, two clans per gender, which is likely what was the plan all along. When Yoshida said they were (likely) not going to release more races, he was likely setting up a semi surprise regarding Hrothgars - they're a new race but not in terms of development costs. But the core thing here is that when he was talking about resources, he was likely talking about moving forward - they wouldn't be able to long term support two full races added. So they thought they were doing us a favor by mix-and-matching, using this "last race" opportunity to give us as much variety as they could... in the process, once again, missing the mark on what a lot of players actually wanted with their requests.
People who asked for beastly races also wanted females.
People who asked for Viera also wanted the males.
And now, while this situation was born out of a lack of resources and good will, they very likely will be forced to give us at least one of the missing options if not both due to the outrage. It's somewhat poetic, if not for the fact this would probably murder gear designs moving forward, to make it easier on the rendering team.
