A Dragoon decided that he should be the tank on The Vault boss when our tank said, BRB quick - he was complaining when there was no healing given to him. I politely leave the group, ain't nobody got time for that. Also those tanks that LOOOOOOOOOVE to pull the entire kitten caboodle of mobs in Nevereap and die of a bee sting in one instant kill hit. Tanks use your brains please!

I haven’t had one of these in awhile but I just had copperbell mines NM as my AST that was full of horrors it starts off I cast protect than a few seconds later the THM casts protect -.- THM proceeds to pull the first mob and dies (ok I will take a lil blame for that I was looking at the tanks hp bar). As we progress the tank only use shield lob… repeatedly I told them that after a shield lob to use flash to build good hate and that they should flash every now and then… tank proceeds to continue to shield lob spam over and over and hardly ever touched flash (they used it maybe 3 times in the last area before the boss). The THM throughout the the whole dungeon only used blizzard and blizzard 2 and hardly ever used fire (as a BLM main this made me cringe…) and they also would cast phsyick all the time… which was not needed at all. The tank could not hold hate for anything I ended up having to kite a ton and keep the ROG alive (the only one that seemed to know what to do. The second boss was a mess the tank kept killing the blasting cap we told them repeatedly to let the cap explode over the slime but they just wouldn’t listen after being told multiple times… The final boss the THM decides to attack all the adds leaving the boss to just the tank and ROG so I had to dps a lot the LB bar fills to 2 the boss is about 13% I say lb no one does and it gets messy as I end up having to kite all the adds. We finish and the THM says good job everyone I was like really? (didn’t say that but thought it)

The one that annoyed me the most was the undergeared Titan tank who died whenever Titan sneezed in his general direction and then said "omg how can a healer be this bad."

AV is full of horror stories. I once ran with two DPS who thought Bad Breath was something to take a shower in and died about five times between them in the boss fight, and then kept going "raise pls" two seconds later when I was still trying to keep the other two alive (we made it through on the back of an amazing tank.) Then there was the tank who liked morbol fruit so much he ate every single piece of it in the room when he got a stack and the rest of us ending up dying. In the same run, we wiped about five times on Coincounter because none of them would avoid his swing attack. I ended up leaving in the end.

Or the tank who somehow made it to Stone Vigil without realising he was a tank, and at every single room he stopped and waited for one of us to do something instead of pulling. That's your job, kiddo.

Repeated dungeons where I'm doing everything I can to NOT get enmity (shroud, repose, running around the tank, not doing anything even) and I'm still getting attacked, until I eventually died.

Then someone complains that I wasn't there to heal them.

Less of a healing horror story and more of a "Uhhh, please pay attention?" kinda story.

So, I like to do trial DR when it's healer in demand now a days just for a the small EXP boost I get on AST and I do want to learn the nuances of AST in 8-mans as I level. As of late I've been getting "The Chrysalis" a lot on my rotation. Not that I mind so much, I do enjoy the fight.

So, enter the fight and waiting for five people to get through the cut scene. Okay, yeah, probably best to drop a couple of pointers now just to make sure people know what to expect. I make a quick list of what to expect - eat orbs in rotating colours, don't get sucked into the centre while you have the DoT, pop all your CDs as the DoT is about to expire, LB3 the add in the white zone. Generally this is good enough to get by.

So I usually anticipate at least one death per orb phase because people don't quite know the explosive radius and tend to get others killed when they get orbs. In the first orb phase, Nab gets 3 stacks but nothing healers can't heal through. Second phase there's only two stacks and one person dies. Okay, no problem at all.

Then we get into the white zone. And I'll just let the image below explain what our three melee DPS WEREN'T doing.

Needless to say, none of the DPS were actually LBing the tear. Big meteor nearly descends when the NIN in the group finally gets the hint and LB3s the Tear. Literally get sucked back into reality just a few milliseconds away from becoming a splatter on the ground.

So, yeah, disaster adverted. Still, sometimes it makes me wonder.

Had a War in Neverreap recently that felt pretty squishy while trying to heal multiple packs. Upon examination, I found the tank kitted with 4/5 slaying accessories and no pants. I can see running slaying if they were actually good enough (which they weren't), but no pants? Tired of DF drama and tired of carrying tanks that think they're DPS and can run around in their smallclothes, I saw myself out in a hurry.

My partner is leveling Pally while we do our hunts. I'm asszing, holying, and using all my regen spells - and he is having NO troubles with emnity. Even on the lvl 58-60 mobs! (He's currently lvl50: i130 gear)

Do horror stories from other games count? I used to pvp regularly and would often be in 24-person raids, sometimes as the only healer. There was a guildie who would often scream (literally) for heals and scream some more and curse when he didn't get them, even when told the healers were dead. I guess we didn't run back to the group fast enough after dying for the umpteenth time. It got so bad I had to mute him in voice chat, and eventually I just left the guild. The guild leader kept him in the group because he thought he was a good DPSer.

Actually I might have already posted this... lol I have a horrible memory.

This isn't too much of a horror story; it was just a run that really annoyed me. Queue up for expert roulette and get Fractal. Buff us up and we go onwards.

The tank pulls the first two groups, and the mobs seem to take foreveeeeeer to die even with me helping dps. We didn't have the greatest aoe party either; we had a ninja and a summoner for our dps (is this gonna be Aurum Vale again?! Jkjk), and they both had around 9k hp which I think is decently/lower geared (I didn't check their gear, could be very wrong myself). We down the trash very slowly and make it to the first boss.

First boss is fine. Summoner gets hit by some avoidable aoes occasionally, but nothing I couldn't heal through.

Again, the tank pulls fairly large groups as we're making our way to the second boss.

We get there and the ninja says they are going afk for a little bit. The tank says, "3 man?" and I reply, "can try". I honestly had no problem with waiting for the ninja, but the tank seemed somewhat in a hurry, so we proceeded without the ninja. Boss goes down a lot slower than normal because I still have to heal, dps, and interact with the things around the arena. Down the boss and the summoner says, "would've been faster with 3 dps" (I'm guessing he was including me? Or maybe the tank?) Anyways, it's important to note that the ninja hadn't even come back after we finished the boss.

Maybe 30 seconds into the next pull the ninja comes back, and once again, everything dies pretty slowly. Get everything down and we're at the final boss.

Normally I only dps when the adds come up during this boss, but I decided to dps the boss as well as the adds this time. Things are fine until more adds start coming up. I am killing 2 of the 4 adds by myself every time, and the ninja keeps getting hit by aoes and gets paralyzed more often than I'd like. At one point the ninja was targeted with the exploding debuff and then got paralyzed right after, so my esuna only took off the paralyze and they died from the explosion. I raise the ninja and my mp is extremely low (partially my fault for not being mindful of my mp while dpsing). I stop dpsing and eventually the ninja dies again. At this point, I have no mp to even afford a raise. The summoner dies shortly after from not dodging an aoe, and says in chat, "why didn't you raise the ninja?". I have no time to reply since I am trying to kill an add to have at least one safe spot for the tank and I. Sadly, the single tile lights up and we wipe.

I return and say, "did you see my mp?" and right after said, "you have raise too". The summoner then replies, "you should be raising before me" and I say, "again, did you see my mp? I couldn't even afford a raise". Nobody says anything and we try the last boss again. This time I only dps when the adds come out. The ninja still gets hit by stuff and gets paralyzed. Ninja dies again and I raise them. We beat the boss and the summoner says, "everyone but <ninja name> sucks ass". I cracked up so badly! X'D I got one commendation, which I assume was from the tank...

Similar to my Neverreap last night. I realized I was 20 Eso short of cap, so I queue for roulette. Very first pull, tank does the pull, stop, allow me to get my regen up then decides to grab the rest of the mobs, losing aggro to me. Takes forever to get it back. Everything is dying slower than I have ever seen. Dragoon is taking damage for some reason, and I can't see them. Turns out they grabbed a mob and kept it back at the start.

The rest of the run is more painfully slow than I have ever seen. Basically, every group of trash is living long enough for me to run oom, even with shroud, at ilvl 184.
The first boss is so slow. Then we get to the bees, tank pulls all four plus the treant.... I'm like "this is gonna suck". The dragoon immediatly pulls aggro and dies, costing me a rez, that they wait forever to accept. Obviously we wile before they can even down one mob. I let the tank know that we have far too low dps to be pulling that pack and the dragoon flips out. Ranting at me. I expalin why we can't do that pull to the DRG. I then get the "Can we go now princess"

Me "Nope"
Drops group and runs trial roulette.

Ran high level today and got Keeper of the Lake. As Astrologian. I'd only done it once (as DPS), and now I see why people hate the place.

1. dps not dodging aoe radiuses or ignoring boss mechanics that get them hit or outright killed.
2.tanks not taking in consideration of the dpses gear and doing huge pulls and making the party wipe

I would have strangled them. In a fight where people are dying and a lot of heals are being done plus the Healer is doing DPS having a SMN do a couple of raises is a godsend. Why they would not want to do that to help the party I don't know. You know which DPS a Healer would raise first if it's a choice? The SMN. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN RAISE.

Had another one the other day. DF'd Thornmarch, and ended up with the unhappy coincidence of all but myself and one other person being new to the duty.

Between DPS walking into every AoE they could find, the tank not holding aggro from KMM and everyone ignoring the moogle order/ going after the king despite targets and putting it in chat, I think we wiped about four times before scraping through (both healers thoroughly frazzled.)

You realize that is the same argument as healers should dps when possible and keep everyone alive. Tanks should push out DPS when possible, while mitigating, and keeping aggro. I'm a main healer that loves to play warrior and sometimes it's really just healers running into bad warriors is the reason for the fear. I'll explain why STR is superior in the right hands.

I always run STR stats, and right sides as WAR. (I do carry around a VIT ring or bracelet if the situation calls for it but it's generally not needed for casual content like trials and dungeons. Many don't realize that STR warrior is actually better, if played correctly. Our primary cooldown, Inner Beast HP is gained based on damage dealt. So the more damage we do when it's up the more we get healed (20% dmg reduction, also absorbs 100% dmg as HP). Combine this with the Berserk, Internal Release combos and we can be talking some good mitigation. All the while during runs yesterday my WHM partner is able to throw Asylums, regen, Aero III, and Holy several times to make the run quicker.

We still have access to cooldowns like Vengeance, Thrill, and Bloodbath (Another healing cooldown) in Deliverance stance. Plus we also have Equilibrium which is a 1200 potency heal when used in Defiance. As long as the warrior is smart with using the stance, not in immediate danger or undergeared we can get some fell cleave damage out and switch stances as needed. Just like Cleric Stance.

It's the crappy tanks that even stack all VIT, but yet get hit for so much damage, never get IB or any cooldowns up on-time, and well just play bad tank is where the healer "extra work" comes from. A good Warrior can maximize DPS and mitigation.

^ This, also War benefits from str with Equiliburm, them ore Str we have the more we heal.

I mean really most of the time the real reason healers have to spam heal with Wars in the party is because they are under the misconception that Wars are harder to heal...If I'm at 15k HP and I'm barely dropping below 10k and you're out of mp, it's not that I'm squishy you just to need to slow the hell down.

As a Summoner main i was always under the assumption that if i can swiftcast res someone its my duty before the healer as they have alot of people to look out for. I suppose im a small % of summoners who think like that lol. In any case the summoner seen the nin dead for X time and you having trouble keeping people up should have been a clue enough for them to use their res.... we have res for a reason people :p

I've been playing for month now and I wonder if healing is for me, especially after my last experience.

I did The Vault for the first time today. First two fights were a little rough, but no wipes. But on the last boss I couldn't keep the group alive. We'd get to around 15% or 20% and damage would be too much. After the fourth wipe, I was extremely upset with myself and felt so terrible I told the party I was leaving because I didn't think I could do it. One of the DPS says "Pls do" and kicks me. Not upset over the kick itself, but rather her comment.

Tried again and one shot the last boss. Things got a little heretic at the end, but no one died. I don't know if those four wipes were due to the group itself, an issue with my own play/inexperience, or a combination of both. But this is not the first time I've struggled, and it's hard not to feel like it's always my fault. I really want to heal, but I often feel like I'm just bad and no about of videos and guides will help.

Healing the Vault:

Pre cast divine seal medica 2, you can tell when he is about fire his aoe off he says something about purging. Final phase when he does the multiple knights in a row plus chain, sometimes you gotta take the knight hit, cast regen on those chained because he might throw the bleeding debuff on one of you.

The pre cast medica 2 when he does his voice emote I figured out on my own after the first attempt. I'll keep your advice about the chains in mind for future runs. Thanks!

It´s about not running to the savespots right away. Dodge the knights after his voidzones appear will give you lots of space. Gathering in the middle of a savespot gives you lots of space to break the chains in the savespot. It propably wont happen often in pugs but if everybody does this you don´t have to heal nor dispell very much in there.

Just got another horror story. Ran Dusk Vigil a couple of times earlier today to level my White Mage to 52. Mostly got Warrior tanks, had no problems whatsoever until the final run, where I quickly noticed I had trouble keeping this tank at a comfortable HP level. Checked his gear. His weapon was i90 and could definitely have been better, but the rest of his gear seemed okay at first at i115. Then I noticed that 2 or 3 of his left-side pieces were i49, and they must've lowered his Defense and HP drastically, as I've never had to pop Divine Seal and Presence of Mind that often in any dungeon before. It didn't exactly help that he wanted to speed-run the whole thing and didn't bother with the mechanics at the final boss fight, but at least no one died, although it was a close call a few times.

A tank in my FC and myself were leveling WAR + AST together in the Vault since it's much more interesting than doing FATE grinds.

And interesting is.. hardly the word to describe this run.

Well, I'll just point form this Vault run.

• My WAR was getting all my buff cards because she was out DPSing the other two DPS
• My DPS + my WARs DPS + my buffs were better than the other two DPS combined
• BLM was pretty focused on DPSing so wasn't moving outta stuff too much
• NIN forgot to Venom until about a bit after the 1st boss (after a gentle reminder from my tank)
• On final boss, was sitting at 1K MP and had to LB2 to try to get everyone's HP back to snuff before the next Altar Pyre
• Myself and my WAR tank duo'd Ser Charibert from at least 30% to finish (we think that value is closer to 40%)

Well, at least fate decided to smile upon me and gave me 4 red scrip handins on the node immediately after that instance.

I suggest you transfer to Japanese server. Tonberry would be right at home, very international, mostly english speakers. I love healing, but playing in American servers - there is no way I would want to put myself through the healing nightmares ever again.... The ratio of bad players in Duty Finder is just astounding!! I hated to play as healer in American servers. All the problems are mostly gone in japan servers, you will see the big difference.

It was awful...

So, a few days ago I was running The Vault in dungeon roulette. The run seemed to be going fine until, right near the end of the first boss I noticed something...

My entire right side went down to 10% durability, and I had no way to repair it.

Then, as we were running through trash, I noticed the "Monk" was using Fists of Earth instead of Fists of Fire, I mentioned that he should probably switch, to which he replied. "FoF is for a different class"

Lo and behold he was actually a Pugilist. I asked his reasoning for staying a Pug. "It brings better utility, I can use Goad, Virus, Cure and Raging Strikes!" He then proceeded to ask why his Cure was healing for so little when it had a 400 Potency.

Anyway, we make it to the final boss after some difficulty and it's just a disaster. The other DPS (Summoner) runs completely out of mana before the boss is even below half HP (He was spamming Ruin 3 and, to my knowledge, never was in Dreadwyrm Trance), the Pugilist was more concerned with "supporting" than DPSing and I was running around with half my gear broken like a failbot.

We wipe three times and then just quit. It was pretty rough.

Although I do put some blame on the DPS, there were clearly some issues there unless NOT using your Job Soul is a new meta or something, a lot of the blame goes on me too for not repairing beforehand.

In my defense though, on our last attempt I equipped lower ilvl gear (Still the same level as the dungeon) and it was still a disaster. I ended up running out of mana after a long slog because the DPS just wasn't there.

Yeah, the vault with bad dps is really just awful. You have that "soft-enrage" second boss and you will know when it feels like its taking forever, or the last one where the flames just don't end and as a healer you get more annoyed on why this isn't dead yet.

Will have to say I had a very positive experience when i was leveling warrior recently. I joined an in-prog. Figured there is likely a tank kick or d/c scenario somewhere. Got in where there was only a SCH and a few seconds later a BLM joined. We waited a minute or two for another DPS but it was late in the night still no one, so we decided to three man it, figured it would be fun challenge.

The second boss we certainly were running out of portal space, but no one got hit by bacon or the portal slows so that helped a lot. I just remember having to move the boss a bit more, and I went into Deliverance several times to help dps more when he really only hits you like a a wet noodle. BLM was definitely playing optimal, and they covered the LB duty well.

The last boss I can tell they earned their SCH stripes and being a healer main you know when you got a good one. Good fairy placement before they ran the chain, embraces kept coming, indomitability was used as-needed, and they got their dots up while they could. Considering the two of them getting chained they never were in danger at-all compared to some dps out there that think the chain is second fiddle to getting another hit in. But we did it with really little to no danger, and it may have taken a little longer. Absolutely this run could be argued to be much faster than with two bad dps. We chatted a bit after the kill too considering how much fun this run was. Undermanned runs can surely make you push a little more out of your job.

Ran Brayflox NM with a newbie Astrologian today.

To cut a long story short, we could have replaced him with a lamp with the Physik ability and the difference would have been minimal.

Just today I was in Neverreap and had a PLD and a BLM. The BLM was using the lvl 50 rotation so I knew it was going to take a long time, but that's the dungeon roulette for ya. As the dungeon progresses I realize the PLD isn't using any of his CD's either, so I'm also not going to be able to add any DPS of my own to speed things up. Finally, the tank pulls all 4 Divine Vespas, so I'm thinking this is the moment he's been saving his CD's for, but I start spam healing him to max and stoneskinning just in case. Suddenly he takes 3 Final Stings to the face with all of his CD's unused. All 4 Vespas and the Treant turn on me, and here comes that 4th Final Sting. After we wipe, I tell him that it was a bold move grabbing all 4 Vespas, and he says he "always pulls all 4 and has never died," then tells me that I need to become a better healer, gets stung to death before I'm able to even cast protect, blames me and the DPS and leaves with the final word.

A4 - Another AST was with me, decently geared and chose Nocturnal stance. Never used any of the aspected spells, only time they used a shield was when the legs broke and that was rare. Ended up doing 60% of all healing that fight then got upset when I asked him to use aspects abilities next time on upcoming raid-wide damage.

I did a party finder for A4 this previous week and none of my preferred healing partners was on. So I went SCH since there was a WHM. I was just so fed up to say anything and while there was no wipes, it's one of those instances where you just smile and leave once everyone got their loot.

I had enjoyed Aurum Vale a lot so far, while levelling up all my jobs. And I finally unlocked it as an AST yesterday, so I gave it a try. The party was composed of a new DRK, a new DRG, a multiple-50 bard and myself.


First room went quite smooth, a bit slow, but might as well as that when trying a new job.
First boss : I explained the strat in details. Everbody understands english and thanks me for the strat. Great then, let's get going. 7 stacks later on the tank and dragoon, we wipe and start over. Second try made it.

We keep going a bit and the bard explains the dragoon he should have his dots up permanently (very nice of him to explain that, I thought)

Coincounter is next... After the explanation of the strat and all possible attacks again, we get going. Bard dies within a minute shot by a "stare" followed by the dragoon soon after by a swing. I swift-raise the bard. And have to wait another minute to raise the DRG. As soon as the DRG is back on his feet again, Bard dies again, too close from the swing (eh?), and again followed by the dragoon. At that point, the boss is at 20%, and I'm not willing to spend an extra raise. We finished the boss, just the tank and I.

The next pack of mobs is famous for hitting hard, and we have a full party of level 47 (except the bardie, 51 or so), so I'm warning the new tank not to aggro everything. Too late. I start spamming my heals and halfway through it, I find time to type "oom" in chat, hoping the bard will get the hint and cover me with manasong. He doesn't. We finally kill them all, with my hands bleeding and my mana below 150 mp.
And the bard says "eh tank, if you need TP, I can sing a song, just ask". I reply "No kidding ? what about my mana ?"

3rd boss, Bard says " I'll use manasong for you, mister DRK". Both tank and I reply that mp-regen doesn't work on drk's manacombo (so much for teaching others how to play their jobs, eh ?). Dps didn't kill adds fast enough, they jump at my throat, inflicting me multiple stacks at once. Somehow, at 6 stacks, I still managed to eat a fruit, raised the dragoon whom I had to let perish to save myself, and we finally made it, 60 minutes.

Leveling AST, get into Stone Vigil. Going through the first few trash packs, the tank's taking such a ridiculous amount of damage that I have to spam benefic II and it's still barely keeping him up. Inspect him between pulls, turns out all his accessories were gathering ones. And no, he didn't just forget to equip tank ones.

The dragoon had to pull him aside and teach him about tank stats.

Noct Sect spells are highly inefficient if you do not need the eHP from shields to extend the target's "maxHP" over its original threshhold. SCHs actively use their shields because they do not have a Cure II or Medica equivalent like AST does. Generally, if the raid-wide damage is not going to kill the raid or a specific target in one blow, you're better off using Helios or Benefic II.

Boy did I make a mistake, he didn't seem to know any sort of regen existed (I'm guessing he is one of those afraid of casting Medica II because of add aggro, yet those things hit like a wet noodle that it's easy to DPS them down anyway)

A WHM has the easiest time bursting down those adds of the Healers. Most groups the DPS will just peel anyway if a Healer pulls them. I normally help kill the add closest to the MT since they usually grab it I use assize swiftcast holy fluid aura and aero and it's pretty much dead from the Tank also hitting it. alone it maybe takes aero III and a couple of extra holys. I rarely need to kill any add I pull aggro on anyway. I never understand a WHM who never uses regen or medica II even seen some who never use divine seal. It's like never using anything that is good about your class.

Not really a horror story, but I got my last piece of Alexander normal loot for my WHM. Sitting at i191 I knew my MND stat was in the high 900's so I opened up my Attributes window, wondering if I had managed to pass 1,000 MND.

Had a friend look at the numbers. He was healing -only- his tank friend and no one else.

As far as the shields go: Im very aware that the shields for AST are ass, but having at least some of it mitigated would help tremendously during aoe phases. Like after attacking the Manipulator and taking that large raid-wide damage. At least popping a shield on the group and using Collective Unconscious I could have easily conserved mana for other healing later in the fight. Instead I was healing all of it. Same goes for the bits and healing him through the Nisi since he was so concerned for his tank friend. The fact that he left out a huge chunk of his kit to only heal one person during the whole fight is the point of this 'healer nightmare'.

A. Helios actually is pretty bad at conserving mana in all points in the fight. Its about 300 more MP for 10 less potency than Helios. If it's not going to kill the group, you're better off using Helios in Noct Sect to top the group off after MR and CZ. I normally have enough time to do so. CU is essentially "free" so there's no reason not to use it for Mortal Revolution.

If he's letting himself die to Nisi well... no comment on that.

Good job on the carry. The fight is pretty hard when you have a clueless healing partner.

Had several annoying ex roulettes lately. Tank pulls everything at the start of Neverreap, mobs take forever to kill and bounce around hitting everyone (including fairy).. and then tank does not learn and does the same for all of the other pulls. Seriously, some people need to realize that with some parties, one group at a time is better. .___.
