Yes mr Sanders, it's tied to the Umbral Event storyline so the content in this form will only exist in 1.23. It could have a reiteration in 2.0 in someway but based on lore it's purely setup for the 'final fight'.

Get ready to grind it over and over again for a chance at a weapon!
I am going to say, I am worried a bit about the level 50 gear bloat. And I do wonder how these weapons will fit into the bis hierarchy.
That said, Skirmish has the potential to be pretty darned fun. If they manage to capture the feeling of a group burly brawl style fights like the current empire invasions and C.n have the I am all for it. Hell If it gives g.c seals at a decent clip I will love the hell out of it.
what i am assuming it is, is one will be one at a time roaming NMs (fight dodor once killed buffalo pops, then gob etc.) the other will be multiple roaming NMs at the same time. Its what it sounds like to me anyways.
edit: could also be dungeon bosses as well, like the ogre and batral, miser, princess, etc.

Just my 2 gil...I'm all for lvl 45+ content...but with the influx of new players or returning players it would be nice to see some content geared for lvl 20-45 to help bridge the gap...because I'm sure not everyone will have a lvl 50 job and a chance to experience all the higher lvl content before 2.0 rolls around...
And 1.23 is the final part of the story, the big show down. It need to be endcontent. Or it would be like fighting against Sephiroth with level 25.
Woo! more weapons :D
I like variety ^_^b
I agree though... this does come across as another AoE spamfest... let's hope we're wrong...
And yeah some more content that provides decent GC seals would be a nice change from "Well fought friend! Onward!" >.>
I see dodore, Great Buffalo and Ogre in there.
If the enemies keep coming, they could very easily design the zone to restrict job changes... to very different enemy encounters. I seriously doubt one can spam through this sort of variety without wiping all the time, lol.
Especially if the classic nm's are buffed up in any way.
Yeah *Chuckle* I'll let you know when my Linkshell clears a Primal other than Moogle.
Or AV or CC for that matter.
Again, top percentage performers complaining about content being to easy, because they're the top performers. It does not matter how hard a fight is for them. If it is beatable, it's too easy. If it's not 'too easy' they either exploit to win, or they stop doing it.
I don't think the game will have proper balance if the top tier players are satisfied at the difficulty. That would reqire a singular event that would have exclusive difficulty just for them, and they would then complain that the rewards are not befitting the difficulty.
Relic Weapons already proved this theory. Difficult fights, long term progression, complaints that it's only marginally better.
What people who are complaining are really complaining about, is that they're not noticeable enough 'above' less skilled/dedicated players in terms of distinction - a complaint that I am of mixed feelings about as I see both sides of the argument.
Greetings!
Since the images of the weapons alone on Lodestone don't really do them the proper justice they deserve, we took a sweet screenshot of a monk holding the hand-to-hand weapon!

Holding these bad boys is sure to boost a tiny Lalafell's ego and make them feel like they can take on the world!
Thanks Camate! They look really nice in action :) Can't wait for this event <3
HEY WE'RE NOT TINY. we're small... boned. oh nevermind!
hells yeah! I think the Militia plate set together with that nice purple axe will look sick as hell. I want!
Coming from someone who considers himself a Monk first, anything else second, I am digging the new weapons. As far as Monk weapons go, they have been quite lackluster (visually) since Ifrit (save Garuda: wish I had one of those), and these are definitely a step up. I only hope they are worth using, statistically.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have content that I can repeat over and over again and find enjoyable. Toto-rak does not fit that mold, neither will content aimed at that same level of players. You do stuff like that once, or a handful of times at most then you're done with it and never go back. Tbh, I think the new maps will break up the monotony of grinding to 50 well enough.
Bring back...
Level caps.
Yeaa-no.
You can't justify level capped content to high level players. They'll just ignore it after they get what they absolutely need out of it and you'll wind up with newbies quitting because they don't get any help.
+1
lol so true. Getting help a couple months after content comes out is a PITA. Just like in XI... do it when it is released or pray. Hard enough to get 5 other people to do something in XI, someone thought it was a good idea to make the party size 8 when you have a flaky and diminished player base that only plays on the months when a new patch is released.
More endgame content eh?
It's cool to have all this stuff to do for 50s, but why even bother having levels if you can't do anything til the end?
It's 1.23, the end of the story, the final battle, the big showdown, high-noon, the content for the end.
Low level content come after all the battle, when the time come to rebuild what was destroyed.
The current game is mostly for the old players to give them something to do. SE want new players joining the game mostly with 2.0
