slutshaming, cute.
Gosh diggity darn it! Will everyone calm the frick down? This is a christian minecraft server!
Sorry for my language.
I mean I was getting a bit sick of the 18+ shout chat clubs myself, especially when they include words that heavily imply they are selling ERP. Honestly seeing 3 for the same location when I was doing the Omicron dailies is where I would say it is a bit too much for anything.
I wish they only advertised in cities so that people actually playing the game didn't have to read useless ads.
I just wanted to say I have just giving up at this point and stopped playing the after an interaction on an alt of someone asking me if my alt did ERP after I helped them in a FATE. The continued to pester me until a friend showed up to bail me out. All I wanted to do was play my alt on my not RP server but ever since that interaction I haven't bothered to log in. I do hope some people find a correlation between the rampant 18+ ads and general public acceptance of it and this kind of behavior. I just want this crap to go back to being private. Sure it is probably just one weirdo but I can't undo the connection in my head between the current state of shout chat/party finder and this horrible behavior. Apologies I know it is just personal and one rando but they proceeded to hit up the friend who came to bail me out as well and again I can't undo the connection between how open this has been as of late and well someone hitting up people out in the world about ERP.
...you necro'd this thread to say that one person pestering you for ERP made you quit the entirety of the game?
You're correlating the two topics. That person was definitely an arse and should be reported. But there's nothing inherently wrong with ERP other than claims to pudor. It doesn't breed horrible behaviour as much as owning a dog doesn't mean you'll sic it on other people.
So really, the fault there lies on the person, not the roleplayers.
That said, I do agree that sexual content of any kind is explicitly against what Square is comfortable with. And the normalisation of ERP venues being so publicly advertised leads to people speaking about ERP in the open and encouraging others to do it. But ERP itself is harmless when done in private areas with consent of both parties.
Really, one person being a douche doesn't mean ERPers as a whole are douches. Just that that one guy clearly doesn't know the meaning of "boundaries", "personal space" and "restraint".
I was in no way trying to throw people who does ERP under the bus and I hardly consider a week pause on a topic a necro myself. I largely just wanted ERP out of a public space.
The messages I received are just one creep but would the person have even sent that message if the culture wasn't so present and prevalent in the game. Shout chat is filled with 18+ stuff that clearly advertise brothels, courtesans, lap dances, body shots and that is just what I remember from the last month from doing Omicron Dailies.
I personally just do not want to be involved if this is the image the game is going to present to those joining it, and that random creep just made me more sure of that fact. Again I would be perfectly fine if this was all behind closed doors and private but it hardly is anymore. I don't want to have to use odd go arounds such as just removing shout chat or third party add-ons for things that in my view should clearly be breaking the rules of a T rated game. (I know online interactions are not rated and all but I find it kinda funny I was recommended PSO2: New Genesis which is rated M and they have rules against this kinda of thing.)
I hope at least my points have been clarified?
It's a choice to judge an entire community based off the actions of one person but it's your life. There are plenty of people who will say they haven't been solicited at all by randoms and those who have been but choose to ignore it and move forward. You can also report people for solicitation or public ERP (private is completely allowed however). If you don't want to then I wish you luck in future games, maybe stick to single player ones as well since you'll get sexually harassed in any game you go to whether you're a man or woman.
Side note, as someone who does play NGS, the ban on ERP is pretty much non-existent now with them focusing on crushing RMT (which in turn is killing the small playerbase they have because anyone who has something bought on the player shop by someone else who has RMT'd also gets banned). In general though no one ERPs through NGS anyway because their chat system is hot garbage, though you will absolutely see pretty close to full nudity all the time with their available character customization and outfit choices. So, honestly going to NGS would just force you to see more sexualization than FF even gets close too. It's M for a reason.
I kinda expect skimp city in a M rated MMO and thus far have had zero issues as you know I went in expecting that, my issue is again this is rated T, Yoshi P is on record saying the youngest age that can play this is 12 in certain regions. I find what I see constantly now a bit excessive for 12-18 age range and question how well all these places are monitoring that minors aren't getting in.
Again I have no issues when this is all private between consenting adults. At the moment I would hardly call it private.
Well, this has already been addressed: it shouldn't be spammed everywhere, but you also won't stop those things from existing.
And you insist that it's not your intention to judge a community based off of that one guy, but that's how your words are being construed. Sorry, but also be mindful of what it is you're saying.
Again, I said as much: you're right, the community shouldn't normalize that sort of thing, because it doesn't matter how you spin it, sexual content isn't allowed by Square Enix and it is very frowned upon. People were banned before for having lewd and suggestive profile portraits.
So I won't say you're wrong in expressing this. But even before the rampant normalization, you still had creeps like these out there. It in no way is ERP's fault, nor the fault of people engaging in it. So yes, I'm sorry, but you are conflating the two. I understand why, and I won't deny that the normalization likely had some input on it... but it wasn't the only factor, nor does that one person speak for the community as a whole. I reiterate: before ERP got normalized, you still had ERP going on, often behind closed doors because it could land them in trouble, and you still had creeps going around asking for the most disgusting things. I had to come in as a Roegadyn to scare off a dude harassing a Miqo'te in my FC because of stuff like this in Stormblood, long before the massive influx of players into the game.
It's just, again, someone who didn't respect your boundaries nor understood the meaning of restraint and rejection.
Things do need to be addressed. But to say that because of one person, you're blaming the rampant normalization of things and quitting the game entirely over it...?
On the topic of other games, that doesn't mean it's inherently any better. Square Enix also has rules on this sort of thing, they're just loosely enforced. PSO isn't unique. And guess what, they usually tend to only act when reported, they otherwise don't want to start parsing through players' chats. It's why back then people were more private about it. But as of Shadowbringers, something happened, and now the community normalized that sort of venue. And while it in itself is a problem that needs to be addressed, the way you're phrasing it goes beyond the normalization of this sort of thing.
I mean, I haven't seen anyone talk about it for 2 weeks, might as well be dead for me :^)
Especially when nothing constructive is added to the thread.
Also, they didn't need you to come in and defend them, they already made it clear. Or did you stop at my response to mald?
(By "constructive" I mean that what they said wasn't new. We already discussed it before, not that their experience isn't valid)
I never see anything like this. I see a lot of ads for nightclub stuff, but nothing I can identify as inappropriate. I don't see these much either, since I blacklist evere one that posts the same add more than twice.
Today I was doing squats in my normal spot in Uldah when a Midlander woman decided to lay down so I was squatting on her face. No words were exchanged...only emotions.
Good times.
All you can do is report the person, add them to blacklist and move forward. There's no actual realistic way to stop people from doing it outside of a bot that flags peoples text and assigns auto bans...which will just cause more problems than it solves when people start getting banned out of nowhere when the bot acts up (speaking as someone who had gotten a 3 day ban on another game when I said the word "train" and the bot flagged it as vulgarity.)
Also not sure why you're including 18 in this as, at least in the US, 18 is when you become a legal adult and can engage in sexual practices freely. I could also go into age of consent laws where some countries have it as young as 13, so depending on where youre from it could be completely normal to see stuff like that (which is a problem in itself but I'm not from there). This is a global game so you're gonna have people mixing together where it could be completely appropriate where they're from and not where someone else is from.
Give them a flat no, not interested, and if they continue to pester, report them under harassment. I've done this after giving my no a few times before finally saying "I've already said no, stop harassing me." Reported them for harassment, copy and pasted the chat, and sent it off. (And before any "but Balmung" comes in, this wasn't even on Balmung, it was Zalera where it happened as I ported in to help a friend out with something.)
As it stands, I have "Erp = No" in all of my search comments, so if someone wants to RP with me, regardless of type, I'd expect them to be able to read and comprehend what "no" means - if they do and just want some gen rp, great, if not they're still going to be told no. If they get enough warnings, warnings turn into suspensions, and suspensions turn into bans. Most will stop at the warning because they don't want to lose access to their account. If they continue to be dumb, well... not my problem, and I hope a bit of time in Mordion Gaol or the waiting game on if they're about to lose their account makes them rethink their life choices.
Exactly. If that boundary is being crossed, why the heck would I want to erp with someone who has no regard for boundaries? If I did erp and it went into territory I wasn't comfortable with, my saying "no" would mean absolutely nothing to them. I'd respect someone more if they asked and gracefully took the L when told no tbh and left me alone.
I only ERP with the PVP quickchats.
Nice job. Nice job. Limit Break ready!
Concerning ERP, there are too few people who understand this. And when you remind them of this simple rule, some go on long diatribes... accusing you of prudishness, of fragility because you feel "attacked" (and this, even if you never said that), etc. A nice reversal of blame, in short.
And, above all, the same manipulation technique that is sometimes used by IRL aggressors.
I know this is easier said than done. I really do. It goes far beyond this, especially in real life where it can be dangerous. But this goes for anyone who does this to you, ERP or not.
The moment anyone says that to you is the moment you see them for what they really are. A child, who crumbled to dust at the sight of two letters. At that moment, they should be nothing more to you, because they cannot be mature enough to hold onto their ego after being denied something trivial and pointless.
Begone, thot. Begone, and know your shrivelled prune will never be enough to satisfy anyone worth their cents.
"No" shouldn't be downplayed. Consent shouldn't be ignored for the sake of "fun". If they can't take "no" for an answer, they just suck.
And thankfully we're speaking of ERP, where there's very minimal they could do to you. Meaning all they're worth after that point is ridicule. Not pity, not fear, just ridicule. No need to blame ERP for the sake of people whom you really don't need to spare any more of a braincell over. Because ERP is just like any other form of roleplaying, it just implies something people generally think of as taboo. And those who engage in it aren't necessarily bad people or perverts. And sure, it attracts perverts and bad people who want to indulge for some stupid reason, but those shouldn't be the main association to ERP.
At that point I feel like the issue doesn't just lie in ERP. At that point, it's up to you to have discernment. And tell who's going to be a douche and who won't be, same as anything else.
To the OP's point, I witnessed one "Brothel" (their words, not mine) in particular possessing around 4 - 5 ads in PF alone last night (Primal DC). The spammy nature of some venues I do believe is out of control. The various cafe's and whatnot tend to keep things in line more than some of the less savory venues by my observations.
It happens because you turned off your profanity filter.
The game comes with it default turned ON, at some point you made the conscious decision to turn it OFF and in doing so agreed to see profanity.
Don't want to see it? Turn it back on.
Well someone is board with all this nero-posting going on.
