Totally agree on all those points. I'm not an Alisaie fan but by the end of SHB I find her less irritating than either of the people you mentioned. Fandaniel I still hope will have some potential in the secret he supposedly holds.
More G'raha just to piss off the people who have this weird hate boner.
Also bringing back job quests would be something I would like to see. Giving them the same level of quality DRK got, but sadly that's not gonna happen.
Let the WoL be free of the Scions, give us a complete new set of characters by the end of 6.0, I feel like this chapter needs to be desperately closed.
Character Custom. overhaul, more face options, more hairstyle options, more facial feature options. Some base races need a serious overhaul, it's a bit jarring having a Hyur stand next to a Viera, the differences in texture quality is kinda sad.
For the hunt scholar npc's to tell u how long ago the SS, S and A ranks were killed in the those zones.
My biggest wish for Endwalker is that they start adding Item Level syncs as part of the final trial on the base expansion MSQ. It's depressing going into Shinryu with Level 70 Item Level cap and him becoming a wet noodle. Equally so it's depressing going into Hades and seeing him turn into a wet noodle.
Unreal 50-80 dungeons roulette
Level-Skill sync to dungeons original level requirements. i.e. if the dungeon was level 54...you only get skills up to that level.
Keep current HP and stats, but the catch is the dungeon automatically tunes to PARTY average ilevel and tailors the difficulty for each and every single run. Making each run unique. So if you're 90 with party average 600 ilevel...the dungeon auto scales for ilevel 610.
No AOE telegraphs!
Random dungeon until you complete your weekly, then you can que for other dungeons until the next reset.
Increased tomestones of relevant tier.
I would like the challenge of going through the older dungeons, with an unreal twist but get's increasingly harder with better player gear and skill.
Part of me misses WoW Cataclysm heroics...and how brutal they were at release...truly had to work as a team....I miss that challenge...FFXIV dungeons are face roll easy. And a weekly savage static that meets once a week just don't keep me logged in. If I can get paired up with random people and truly walk into a dungeon that is challenging yet fair at max level stats...sign me up.
Nothing wrong with not liking a character but the intensity of hate I see against G'raha specifically is kind of ridiculous, you'd think he spat on a childs face or something.
Also it's totally fine to have moments of peace in an apocalypse, regular citizen indulge in those all the time, I see no issue with G'raha taking 2 minutes out of his week to not be a doom and gloom.
While, like FATEs, I'd be happy to lose them if it meant we were actually getting something better in their place (a living world, for instance), little in XIV has warranted that assumption. Given that, guild leves, while barebone, are well... incredibly low-cost, development-wise, while still getting a little more use out of the open world in a highly freeform way. I can't imagine dropping or discontinuing them -- in favor of... absolutely nothing in their place, as we've seen -- being a boon.
It’s literally every time he meets one of our friends though. I think the main hate for him is they went from a fairly good character like exarch to…quite literally pure fanservice with graha. It’s just a degradation of a character not to mention the plot holes he created throughout the story.
More glam plates, I don't even need like 2000 glam dresser spaces honestly I just need the ability to make a plate for each job. Also add more dyes of more garish or outlandish colors like metallic pink, highlighter yellow, glitter dyes, and so on. Yes it would hurt my eyes to see people dressed like clowns in midday Limsa but I'd rather have it and deal with that than not have it at all. And of course... multiple dye channels for gear.
Job-wise I want them to throw their backs into making brd a true support dps again, but I fear they'll just let it remain mediocre or instead rework it for the worse.
I also want more logs. Specifically, I want a bestiary that logs overworld mobs and their drops, and a sort of ingame "lore log" that compiles story tidbits from quests and duties that you can search up. Something that allows you to look up character names you may have forgotten or notes about the cultures of certain locations or knowledge of how certain magic works, stuff like that.
It's not really degradation of character. Here is a guy with the knowledge of the ages in his head, meeting people who he only found out about after waking up. People who are essentially legends from when he woke up. He is literally meeting living legends he heard nothing but stories of amazing deeds about. It's akin to meeting King Arthur, Jean d'arc, Masamune Date, etc. You're meeting LEGENDS. Also there are no plot holes from the Exarch's existence...just confusion because nobody knows exactly how the universe works when presented with paradoxes.
I think the dislike of G'raha is warranted.
Firstly, we're talking about a character who looks like this:
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/92/74...5ca060daf9.gif
Secondly, based on the direction of his story:
I think the writing around him is of very poor quality. Not only does he have many different special powers, they're all given to him through needlessly convoluted scenarios - including time travel.
Furthermore, there's no actual stakes involved. He plays a part in eliminating not one but two of the Unsundered and at no point does he himself have to pay any lasting, realistic consequences. Being unable to return to the First doesn't count - because he wanted nothing more than to travel with the Warrior of Darkness.
We also have no option to turn him down. I don't care about his one sided friendship. I want him gone - and I'd reluctantly tolerate him if we could shoot him down. In an already bloated cast of characters, there's any number of characters we have spent time with over the years. Why does G'raha, of all characters, have to fulfil the role of 'best bud'?
The wiggly ears and widened eyes each time he sees a 'hero' grows grating, too. I'm not fond of hero worship in general, especially since the game likes to state that everything is a matter of perspective - so there's little point in glorifying those who only secure victory due to never having to face the same level of destruction as the antagonists and due to having all manner of plot conveniences to ensure that they're never at any risk of having to go 'too far' in their quest for survival.
A Hall of the Novice-style tutorial at higher levels. Make sure it includes at least all of the basics expected of each role, like using a tank stance, using AoE and combo abilities, basic positionals, and so on. Make it available to everyone, in case people want to brush up on a job they haven't used for a while, but make it mandatory for level skippers. Getting kinda tired of having to explain to people in ShB dungeons that they have to use Iron Will to hold threat.
Oh yes, that. I could see one infer that he constantly held back because of his original plan to be thrown into the Rift to dispel the light (meaning he had to save up energy for that), and without that plan he had no more reason to hold back since quite literally everything was now at stake. But sometimes we need more tell, and less show. I won't even deny that feels like a plot hole without an actual explanation.
It wouldve at least made more sense if it was a self sacrifice thing. That would be much more believable than what they actually did. The fact that they constantly make it a point numerous times in the story and go to such lengths as to even show us the consequence of him overexerting himself(see:Kholusia) only to completely drop that plot and have him use a huge asspull at the end just ruined the ending for me.
Agreed. I do feel they could go a bit further though and produce something like a high level tutorial guide, going over some core MMO mechanics (e.g. value of DOT upkeep and AOE explained, even if the latter can be deduced from tooltips) and some of the more specific features of XIV at high levels, e.g. OGCDs, double-weaving. Not to the point of belabouring a rotation (which is more the role of theorycrafting sites), but exploring mechanics which it's good to know at high level even for people not going out of their way to optimise, without having to point people to The Balance or similar. I've not done HoN in ages but what I remember of it was that it's fairly basic.
For Blue Mage to have an alternate style that allows us to play it with regular job classes. We really need a new caster and repurposing Blue Mage to have the ability to play as am "Unlimited" job class whenever you want to would be nice.
Especially since I want to completely be able to main White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage and Blue Mage on my main alt in all content without restrictions, including in MSQ.
Dude, you can't be 100% afraid all the time. If you're feeling sad and someone tells a joke you'd probably still laugh. That's just human nature. And G'raha has only read about those heroes and is now seeing them in the flesh. As a history nerd, how could he not freak out? I find that rather endearing and it makes him very human and relatable. The more we see if him the better.
I just can’t feel the same way. It takes away from the severity of the situation. Again, i’m just not a fan of characters who have immense plot armor like him. He also just serves 0 purpose in the story anymore. I’d rather they just kill him off in 6.0 and be done with it so we can get a new cast. He was fine as the exarch but even then they couldn’t help but give him immense plot armor. He had an entire expansion to shine. They should’ve just left him dead in 5.3 because as for me, that’s where his character did die. All we’re left with is fanservice. Not the good kind either. I just remember when this game used to be serious and dark back in HW and SB. Where there were actual consequences for the protagonists and peoples lives were actually at stake. Despite ShB being advertised as dark and gritty and facing the strongest opponents we ever have, everyone comes out unscathed and fine. It just seems like the devs can’t write anyone off without the community throwing a tantrum and crying over it. Look at the people still crying over haurchefant after 6 years, it’s ridiculous.
Dungeons actually mattering.
Race specific glamours past initial starter gear.
Not particularly. I think there’s a time and place for everything. When ShB was advertised as the darkest, grittiest expansion yet. I expected consequences for the Protags. I expect there to be loss. Not really much humor. Yet despite it being advertised as dark, it was probably the expansion with the most humor yet. The expansion with the least amount of consequences and loss. That’s what irritates me. The humor just adds onto it because it just makes the story feel like a joke. If the protags are just going to always win and joke about things what’s the point. It’s the expansion we’re supposed to go against our toughest foes yet, but they pull out random asspulls and then have random fanservice to add “humor.” Just not my cup of tea.
To many, myself included, there also isn't any real tension in the first place since it's pretty easy to work out which characters are never going to be in harm's way. The humour, then, comes off as poorly timed because there's nothing to get over in the first place.
There's a lot of melodrama about how the player character and his allies have been through 'so much' and yet they've never had to deal with even a fraction of the loss that most of the antagonists have endured. Which, in turn, just makes most of the protagonists come across as complete narcissists to me.
I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect bolder storytelling with higher stakes than what we have at the moment when previous Final Fantasy games had just that in spades.
I particularly enjoyed the intrigue and consequences in Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII. I also liked the boldness of some of the plot twists in Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy VII.
Most recently, I played through the Final Fantasy VIIR expansion and that gave a nice sense of danger and consequence without relying on having the antagonists act like fools and then die without ever scoring even a single victory.
It's very unfortunate that FFXIV is trying to just shuffle all of the consequences onto the antagonists and the occasional secondary character. Such a sense of lack of loss/stakes does not personally endear me to the likes of G'raha.
I totally agree, people tend to be really against anything that is '' locked '' tho.
Imo it just adds some uniqueness to the races.
And I mean it's meant to be cultural attire, so it makes sense for it to be locked.
On the topic of mogs I'd like to see undergarment customization, what I mean is stuff like pantyhose with different textures and patterns and stockings.
It just kinda sucks sometimes that they're tied to specific leg pieces.
And if they were tied to your undergarments they could also show through in shorts for example sorta like the shorts from the Nier raid.
It'd open up mogging a whole lot and sorta free you up from having to use specific leg pieces if you want that.
Same with how you have to use one very specific legpiece for fishnet, it can kinda mess your mog up if that's the only part of it you want.
I liked the Crystal Exarch in 5.0. I dislike G'raha Tia after. There are too many different problems with G'raha Tia for me to like him, especially in 5.4 and 5.5. He is a redundant character who competes with Alphinaud to fulfill the same character archetype and role in the narrative as the nerdy best friend of the WoL, he casually abandons the people of the Crystarium and shoves his way into the WoL's life, the game hyped him up dying in 5.3... only for him to inexplicably survive, and he continues to haunt the game after having missed an opportune moment to exit the narrative on a good note. I don't vehemently hate the character, but I'll never enjoy him and think that I'd enjoy the game more if he had just gracefully bowed out in 5.3.
As for humor, I overall liked the comedy moments in ShB. I don't think they detract from the game. A game can have a serious story and still have moments of levity. The comedy moments up spruce up the moment and sometimes help endear me to the characters. FFXII has an interesting plot, but the party members were very boring to watch for most of the story (outside of a handful of really well directed scenes, like when they meet the Gran Kitias, or when Ashe meets the Occuria, or the climax atop the Pharos).
As someone mentioned before, there is a noticeable lack of consequences or loss for the main characters in FFXIV. The most that happens is that almost all of the fodder Scions are killed halfway through 2.0. After that, you have the Scion's being framed and becoming fugitives at the end of 2.55, but then it is nonchalantly washed away in 3.0. Only side characters get killed off. No main characters (Scions or nation leaders) bite the bullet. The heroes never fail or make mistakes, resulting in disastrous consequences. No city states get nuked. Etc. At most, the heroes are temporarily inconvenienced, such as the WoL getting bested by Zenos and then having to go level grind on the other side of the continent before coming back. If Y'shtola had actually bit it and the Alliance had to pull back out of Gyr Abania, it would have felt more impactful.
I liked the Crystal Exarch, was a mostly serious leader.
G'raha's whole 'shy uwu catboi' shtick is pretty annoying though. The man is a 300 year old time lord, why is he suddenly acting like a schoolgirl with a crush?
Take in heart that these 2 are different character in terms of progression. Nobody knew much of Crystal Exarch's identity, even freaking Emet Selch. Also take in mind that CE's shoulders were heavy of responsability, hope and all. He spent so much time in the First and yet people had not much of a clue of him, just he's from a different land (as he would associate the Scions as well)
The scenes in Kholusia already hinted his huge desire for adventure but he still put the safety of Stars first over himself.
Then he softened up after all that and got his fever dream of adventure.
Plus having a crystal powered allagan blood character in the Scions already make things... well hard to find a balance, oh yes he's also an all rounder too and can change classes, oops
This is not a disagreement btw, just stating how it came to this personality. I still enjoy the character but it is fair for people to be annoyed
Except it's not really the Crystal Exarch surviving so much as WoL and friends shoving his memories, courtesy of the Spirit Vessel, into the G'raha sealed inside the Crystal Tower on the Source. But yeah, I don't disagree that if there was ever a moment to kill the character off, that was probably it (similar to how they had the perfect opportunity with Thancred during ShB), so that just means the devs didn't want to. I'm somewhat bemused at all the hate G'raha's getting post 5.3, I don't personally have a problem with him... even if, yeah, there's some overlap between him and the twins as WoL's stalwart supporters and, yeah, this kind of humour may be somewhat jarring as we're going into the high-stakes, climactic finale expansion... but...
... I'm with you on this 100%, FFXII is the perfect example of humour (or lack thereof) making a huge difference. I could count the times the characters interact outside of progressing the story on one hand, they barely do, and it makes the whole experience incredibly dry.
At the end of the day though, I disagree with killing characters off just to show how grim and serious your story is. If anything, I actually wish more characters had survived (Moenbryda, Ysayle etc.)
Imo, i think 12 had the perfect blend of humor that fit in the setting. It wasn’t everywhere for sure, but that makes sense. There’s a war for survival going on. But they fit it in places where it wasn’t jarring and it made sense. Some examples being the larsa moment on ozmone plains or Vaan asking about Fran’s age. It felt like it fit and it flowed well. Whereas with 14, there’s just numerous moments they try to implement humor in a situation that just leaves it feeling incredibly forced in and non fitting. The whole graha situation in 5.3 is kind of hypocritical to me as well. They keep pushing this notion of “moving on” towards the future yet, the protags constantly go against that notion. Instead of just leaving graha on the source as he is, they choose to shove exarch’s memories into him. The alternate timeline, instead of just moving toward the future in there, instead decided to mess with the timeline and potentially doom an entire world. But it’s okay when the protags do it, it’s only wrong when the antagonists do it :p. I don’t think they should kill characters off one by one and i don’t think anyone is really advocating for that. But the problem is, ShB is quite literally the most high stakes story we’ve ever had. People died in HW and SB to much lesser stuff. Yet in ShB where the stakes are as high as they’ve ever been and we’re up against literal almost godlike beings, we prevail without any problems. The protags are handed solution after solution between tempering,a way back to the source, etc etc. It just feels unbelievable and it doesn’t help when they constantly tease things like Graha dying in 5.3 or Yshtola’s constant deathscapades, only for it to amount to nothing. The way i see it, if they have to resort to asspulls and plot armor to keep a character alive, they’ve already demolished the story, and they did this at the end of ShB. To a lesser extent they did it in 5.3.
