I'm getting so annoyed like I cannot stay connected through the lobby character select and when I load in game, I stay connected for 2-3 minutes then I disconnected. I had no issues until 9/22 and the problem is still happening until now and I keep getting the 90002 and 2002 error codes. This is insanely frustrating like I keep restarting the router, cleared cookies and cache, allow app through firewall, open game as admin and now I'm uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
I'd like to think that there's an issue with their game at the moment because for the longest time since ARR and 1 day of ShB disconnect and I have never had this issue until tuesday.
I've discovered something interesting just now.
Since logging in this morning, every time I enter this trust dungeon - I get 90001. I was just fighting the 2nd mob pack and got yeeted back to title screen.
Before entering I stood out in the world and nothing seemed amiss, killed a mob, healed myself repeatedly. Went into trust dungeon - boom, straight out.
I don't know how they handle dungeons/duties vs the world in the back-end, but I suspect there may be something wrong with the link there.
Usually I only get 90002 errors - and not with this alarming frequency.
I'll paste in my comment from the other thread, just to fill in the details:
Quote:
-Platform: PC
-Error messages received: 90002 usually (connection time spanning 1 - 6 hours), 90001 just now, twice in 10 minutes.
-Wired or WIFI connection: Wired
-Other programs being used when running FFXIV: MSI Afterburner, Steam (in offline mode), Discord, Firefox
-When disconnect occurs/How often: as above.
-Everything you have tried to resolve the issue: My DHCP address is set to be DMZ (demilitary zone) and has been for weeks while still receiving same errors, Windows firewall is off, Malwarebytes has a blind eye towards FFXIV
Additional info:
Was in a trust dungeon... Fighting an armadillo, disconnected at 10% left; reconnected - killed him, pulled a new pack of mobs and disconnected again - 90001. Normally I get 90002 errors.
Never had any other errors other than the above two.
Also tried two network adapters (my motherboard comes with an intel gigabit one and a realtek 2.5gb one; both experience same issues; all power saver settings are off because I hate trees that get in the way of my immersion).
I have never experienced notable lag while playing the game, always runs to spec.
A word of note: I migrated from Zodiark to Omega. Did not experience these issues in Zodiark; as soon as I got into Omega, disconnections were rampant.
My location: UK
ISP: Virgin Media
anyone have any improvements? I just saw this note:

yup, i am able to play on JP data centers. however i'm still having issues connecting to NA data centers. Error 2002, no firewalls are on
Sadly no improvements connecting to NA for me after yesterdays recovery from technical issues.
No improvements on my end.
Same here, no improvements for NA. JP servers still work for me.
I'm beginning to get improvements. Last 2 days I've been able to connect to Primal DC for a few hours without disconnecting, but still having lag issues. I'm able to connect just fine on mobile data now too which is an improvement as well.
I think the issue is down to the route between my router and the FFXIV serverers, going through congested or faulty nodes? At least that's what the last few tracert I've done indicate - problems with NTT in Ashburn and San Jose.
No improvements until now :(
I've been having this same issue for several months: guaranteed disconnects from just XIV every few minutes. As of today, it is still not resolved. However, I have a remedy that might work for many of you. When I connect to XIV via a VPN (in my case I'm using PIA), the disconnects completely disappear. It doesn't seem to matter which VPN IP I connect through--all of them, from California to Canada, completely eliminate the disconnects. If it helps, I am on a Hawaii to Crystal (Brynhildr) connection. I suspect the VPN allows me to avoid the problematic network/connection between me and XIV.
Getting 90002s daily. Never happened for over a year until these last few weeks. WinMTR showing massive and constant packet losses no matter what time of the day due to NTT Communications located in Dallas, Texas AND San Jose, California.
ae-2.r24.dllstx09.us.bb.gin.ntt.net
ae-0.r25.dllstx09.us.bb.gin.ntt.net
ae-2.r25.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net
ae-5.r24.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net
These four have been the absolute worst with packet loss and complete unresponsiveness.
In the past 2 1/2 days getting frequent 90002 disconnects, and now I can only achieve a "Poor connection" (game says) when speed tests consistently show my speeds to be through the roof. Please help.
on mac, the new patch didn't solve the problem, so adding myself to list of people who still have this problem. worth saying that when i tried to log in today, the game told me my connection "excellent". didn't save me. maybe the hotfix will take care of it?
I got a disconnect a few minutes ago and no I can't login anymore. Only get the error message "Lobby Server down" :(
I am also on Virgin Media and have made a static IP for my PC and forwarded all of the ports SE sent me in an email after calling them prior to the closure of phone support in UK. Despite all of SE suppooorts recommendations, nothing has worked and they still maintain their servers aren't at fault. I disagree as regardless of whether i play on a character on a EU/NA/JP server and data center for the problem still is running rampant and seems to have gotten worse ever since 5.3.
I contacted Virgin Media incase they were blocking certain ports that FFXIV needs, and they have assured me that they don't. SE need to stop being complacent and ignorant to a real problem which has ben present for me ever since ARR Alpha.
Most of my Error 90002 are when entering roulettes or whilst in an instanced area the random dc happens.
I've been experiencing the 90001 and 90002 D/Cs as well, along with random CTD's with no clear defined source.
It isn't windows as I've tried reinstalling it and it still happens.
It's not the game as I tried reinstalling it too
It's not Ghsade/Reshade/Freestyle as Its happened with Freestyle/Reshade off and uninstalled.etc
It's not my GPU as it's happened on 3 different GPUs now (GTX 1070, RTX 2070 Super, and now RTX 2080ti)
It's not my Motherboard as I've verified everything is fine with it (Replaced an old mobo as a voltage regulator was dead, my current one is a TUF X750Plus Wifi)
It's not a CPU defect as a CPU Defect would be causing issues in other games/software and everything else but FFXIV is running fine, even more graphically and CPU Intense games.
The only thing it could be is either a random fault in FFXIV's Code, it not liking my Ryzen 3600 for some reason, or my RAM, which my RAM is testing fine on RAM Tests, the only flaw on it is that it has a higher latency thus won't XMP/DOCP.
My current rig for reference is
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Mobo: ASUS TUF X570-Plus-Wifi
GPU: EVGA RTX 2080ti XC
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM (Getting replaced with 32GB of C16 Trident Z Neo RAM this weekend)
Storage: Saberent Rocket PCIE 4.0, 2TB, Saberent Rocket PCIE 3.0 512GB, Seagate Firecuda Hybrid Drive 2TB
The disconnects started for me when my wife started playing also - the correlation seemed so stark that it seemed like square was monitoring for multi-boxing & the disconnects were intentional. Occurs more often if I have a browser open while playing. Using a VPN helps (Vypr), but doesn't solve the actual issue. Disconnects usually happen when zoning into/out of dungeons, i.e. going from the world server to the dungeon server. No changes to my comp or network to prompt any belief that the issue is on my end.
That's usually when it happens to me when entering and or leaving instanced fights/dungeons and sometimes whilst in the instance.
I've been getting hit with error 90006 since the big disconnect that happened on Thursday.
At around 11:30pm BST I notice my chat log starts lagging severely, FC data won't load, and after a few minutes I disconnect with error 90006. Attempted to log back in, I get error 2002. I can post specs later but I'm 100% certain it isn't on my end.
Worth noting, people I know outside of the UK are not affected at all. I'm with Virgin Media in the UK.
Had no issues until Thursday as mentioned above and absolutely nothing has changed on my side.
Edit: The forums are also lagging REALLY BAD on my end and caused a double post x_x
Well, I'm struggling with same isuue..
Nothing helps for me :(
Adding my voice to the fray: the 2nd last server on EU DC (but seeing this here it really is a common trend in all DCs) has been acting up since Tuesday Patch 5.35 on 13.10.2020. It was then temporary resolved after the emergency maintenance 2 days later on Thursday, probably just because it was restarted? One common occurance are these lagspikes:
https://i.imgur.com/2Rfrdl7.png
1089 here being the worst ping. That results in often "freezes" and occassional 90006 kicks from the server.
For the few days since last emergency maintenance you could not observe those giant pings and the connection was smooth like butter. :(
Popping in here to say I've been dealing with same stuff. I get mostly the 90002 error with a few 90001s sprinkled in. I'm on Aether/Adamantoise in the US. Been playing since april of this year, and only started having problems recently. I'd say it's been happening for a month, but has gotten much worse over time. It's at the point now where it kicks me out after 5 min or so. I've spent hours on these forums and reddit looking for fixes and have tried all the common ones people have talked about, to no avail. I've tried connecting to the wifi at the college I go to, and even setting up a mobile hotspot using my phone.... still crashes regularly. I tried a VPN (protonVPN), but that didn't work either.
I think my next step is to try out some different VPNs and see if I have any luck. If anyone has any that worked for them, let me know. Honestly though, I can't afford to pay for a VPN on top of what I pay for this game. :( I'm also going to contact SE... I'm not expecting much to come from it, but I could at least add myself to the voices of people who are experiencing this, for what it's worth.
This game has honestly been so great for me this year as a way to meet new people and keep up with friends when covid hit and I moved across the country... now it looks like I can't play anymore, at least for the near future. The rate at which it disconnects just makes it unplayable. Probably won't be renewing my sub for next month. (ya hear that, SE? you're losing money) Hope there's a way to fix this.
Chiming in, I only get the issue in instanced areas (dungeons, interior of houses and diadem to note)
I really want to enjoy this game, but if these issues keep up I wont be able to play realistically.
Just my nickels worth:
After seven different sessions with tech support via email and live chat and being told to try everything mentioned here by others as well, I decided to try creating characters and see if I could log them in.
The first character I created logged in no problem. The second one I created on the same server had the same disconnect issue that my main has, it shows my character at the character select and puts me in the queue, but once clear of the queue almost instant disconnect and error 90002. So I then delete the second newly created character and recreated it then it logged in just fine. So it seems to me that the MP must be right and it is definitely a server issue.
Heya,
in 7 years of playing Final Fantasy XIV, i never had hard issues with the connection - UNTIL NOW
Since Patch 5.35 my characters getting kicked back to login-screen with 90002 Error.
I haven't changed anything in my network, configurations, hard- and software. I always go with the saying "never change a running system".
After the connection-errors appeared, i tried every possible method. Setting Ports, deactivating firewalls, whitelisting, changing DNS, changing Internet Explorer settings, etc. etc.
I tried all the troubleshooting steps which were posted by "Dynratygus".
I even de-installed the game with a complete wipe of all data.
After the re-install it firstly seemed to be okay, then happened again.
The connection-issues keep happening mostly when changing areas or during cutscenes. So everything that causes a loading of the character while in game, results in a 90002 Error.
I even had no packet loss, neither bad connection. My ping was betweend 13 and a maximum of 36.
I'm at the end of ideas and don't want to pay for a VPN to fix this, since this is cleary not my fault.
Network is working perfectly. No losses, connection-aborts, fluctuation in the variety of ping or data-volumes etc.
And of course, i don't use any 3rd Party programs or mods or shaders and the likes.
This ruins the fun to play the game. It's so frustrating, that i can't enjoy a normal tour of daily roulette.
Support clearly needs to adress this kind of problem and come up with a fix. Can't continue playing the game as intended.
I am also having disconnect issues centered around entering and exiting instances, and am also experiencing packet loss on their side.

I'm getting 90006 disconnects. it's been an issue for a couple weeks now, it's SUPER annoying. And I'm on ps4, so I can't so easily check for like...packet loss or whatever. Sigh.
I'm getting this constantly in the MSC Escape from Casum Centri instance, I'm not tech savvy :(
Constant 90006 on PC, multiple Resets/Power Cycles of PC, Router and other network devices, no cookie.
FFXIV has the needed exceptions. I am not willing to fully open ports in my whole network because an issue clearly happens on the way to the servers (official forums are slow as molasses, too. Other websites aren't.)
I just started replaying and I also keep getting 2002, 90006 and 90002 errors on PC. I tried everything that has been suggested, all except using an ethernet cable since I can't (PC is too far from the router). The forum is also really slow.
This is exclusive to FFXIV and Square Enix.
Hello,
While I am not experiencing disconnects. I am seeing packet loss from those nodes similar to those posting in here earlier. I noticed it two nights ago and it is causing me major grief in-game.

I am also having disconnect issues (error 90002) half the time I enter or exit instances, this problem doesn't happen if I am using a VPN service (exit lag).
I also noticed huge delay increase in node ae-1.r24.snjsca04.us.bb.gin.ntt.net(129.250.5.17) from ~180ms to ~211ms.

The game is basically unplayable as far as I'm concerned. I contacted my internet provider (Orange) but they were no help. I even tried creating a new character on another data center (I'm usually on Lich, new character is on Spriggan), I was able to play for a minutebut the connexion got lost right when I tried to talk to an NPC.
Hi, I'm a new victim. Only thing I have to say is that I hope this issue is fixed soon (as naive as that is based on the replies here). This issue happened to me literally when I decided to finally sub to the game and I would love to keep playing it with every fiber of my being because I love this game more than I love alcohol, but someone over at SQ doesn't :/
I am having this same problem, and I've been having it for a long time. Tonight I have been repeatedly kicked, getting the 90001 error. I have tried SE's "fixes", but they do nothing. My game is literally unplayable. I log in, click on an NPC, get disconnected. I log in, take 5 steps, get disconnected. The longest I've been in game without getting kicked was 25 minutes. This began at approximately 0100 EST, and continues now at 0419 EST.
What is tracert? Packets? I am not familiar with this terminology.
EDIT TO ADD: Disconnect 90006 and 90002 occur now as well.
