What jobs are we hoping to see in the next expansion?

I like that. Knight or Chevalier or something like that. You could have two stances. Mounted (tank) and Unmounted (dps)

DoW healer and DoM tank would be nice. Dps has most variety in job flavor. Blue mage tank and chemist healer maybe.

As for dancer as new healer. My friend would be estatic but i cant share her enthusiasm. I'm pretty certain it would look way better on her character than mine at the very least as a male roe. Square's got an aesthetic they're really pushing on healers in general and that's kinda annoying.

This is very true because they can't seem to find a middle ground with the aesthetics of healer jobs. 3.0's AF shows that, as does 4.0's, in my opinion.

I mean, I enjoy playing healers as much as the next person, but the whole point of having different jobs in one role is to have different aesthetics, but pretty much all the healers scream "GRIL ONLY", perhaps the only healer that can be pulled off by a male character is Scholar, but even then, the "poster" character for WHM is a female Lalafell, for SCH it's a female Elezen and for AST it's a female Au Ra. But no surprise with AST, 90% of the animations on that are feminine af.

Maybe with the next healer we might be able to see a "male" character portray the healer job? Would be interesting if it was actually DNC and it had a male character as the "poster boy" for the job.

Well, to be fair, Diadem (at least its second incarnation) was just doing specific amount of FATE's with some giving more and some less points. And this community really hates FATE's. It simply could not have worked when the basis for it was the thing that players hate before it even came.
Second was how horrible was the reward system. I went there maybe ten times, and got some piece of gear only twice or thrice. I'm not talking about its randomness. That was fine, would make for an incentive to continue doing it. But the fact that I just did not get any at all made me think the run was pretty much wasted. If there was at least one gear piece guaranteed, I think it'd be more valuable.

As for Vermilion...honestly, my only guess is that adding a mini-game that is so far away from the concept of an RPG is the problem here. And the mechanics. When I do it just for those 10 000 MGP, I do that first boss challenge which is fast. And even then I'm irritated at the game. I order my minions to attack him, but they go past him, as if I ordered them to move to the place he was at. If I tell them to attack, they should automatically go after that guy until I changed the order or either them or he is dead. That's the point of "attack" command, right?! Why does the pointer even change to a sword if its effect is the same?!
But from what I heard, players wanted to have something to do with minions, and that was the answer. But players wanted RPG-style battles. Something akin to pokemon, digimon, monster rancher and similar. This couldn't have been any further from that.

So in these cases, the developers literally asked for failure. You don't go up to a man asking for fashion ideas offering him a sexy bra, a tank-top with large cleavage and a mini-skirt. Being told off is the best that could happen to you. And Square Enix did pretty much that.

I'm afraid that the aesthetic issue is born from real life. Go to a shop that sells fashion and look at what is offered to men. You may find maybe three types of pants, three types of long-sleeved shirts/hoodies and one or two types of short-sleeved shirts. Everything else different about them would be the colors, materials and prints.

Now, go to a womans part. You've got variety galore. Dresses with cuts here, with cuts there, without cuts. With or without cleavage. Long, short and anywhere in-between. Slim and loose, elastic and freeflowing.

Part of that is because of how people define "masculine". In peoples mind, there is one thing masculine, one thing neutral and everything else if feminine. Of course, this is a slight overexaggeration, but not as large as it seems.

For example, blue or pink, which is feminine?! Grandmas of the current young adults probably would buy blue clothes when hoping for a girl to be born and pink if it was a boy. Currently, the reverse is true and 'gals' that aim to be girly are covering themselves in pink from head to toes. A man that would put on a pink sweater would be laughed at (by those more vocal)...but funny thing?! A girl that would put on a blue sweater could very well be praised for her feminine appearance.
A man in skirt?! Laughed at and humiliated (unless in Scotland and wearing a kilt). A woman in pants?! Perfectly normal in all cases.

So, can you now see the problem?! Designing for women is much easier, cause you can do literally anything and it will STILL be 'feminine enough'. But the slightest variation from what is considered masculine when designed for men and it will be mocked. As a result...don't expect a variety in appearance of gear. What we're left with is asking for more cool designs and less ridiculous ones (a roman-styled breastplate with a 'six-pack' on the chest?! Really?!). That'd already help and is actually reasonable.

Gunblade / Gun[weapon] - Standard DPS with combos and rotations, but there would be an ability with no recast time that procs often so you can fire the trigger.

Breaker - Blunt weapon wielding Tank. Inflicts multitudes of debuffs upon the enemy. I could see this based off Nero and his Gunhammer.

Chemist - a healer using button combinations (like NIN's mudras) to mix potions :)

Judge tank is all. He'll be armed with a gunhammer which he'll use to build up judge points to buff himself and allies, and penalty cards to punish rulebreakers.

I'm not even gonna lie...I've seen so many cool Chemist support/healer concept ideas that float around the general forums/healer forums, that would be kind of awesome to see fleshed out into an actual job.

Blue Mage has also had my interest for a while because it seems like it would be one of the more incredibly intricate jobs to implement.

I badly want beastmaster (DPS) in which I'm fine if they just recycle the mounts or mobs to make it easy as long as we can swap to our beast of choice out of the types offered. They can even follow Summoner's formula. Bear, Dodo, Goobbue (tank pet). Coeurl, Chocobo, Ziz (melee DPS). Wyvern, Opo-opo, Sabotender (ranged DPS).

I would like to see the "Quistis" class (Blue Mage) and it better use a whip, we have way too many sword classes IMO.

That was yoshi's thoughts in not adding a tank or healer this patch, if I remember.

TBH I don't think they even have the staff to create more than one job next patch. They have to repeat content so much it makes me wonder if I should stick around. I have way too many hopes placed on Eureka as something to do than is healthy, and if it fails I will be legit out of things I want to do that I haven't done multiple times in HW.

Even if we're not getting new tanks, we can still easily lose existing tanks to:
- Inability to find a tank job that excites them
- Failure to balance as to retain competitiveness for the tank job that excites them

New tank jobs can still help with the prior. (Even if they may sometimes exacerbate the latter...)

But, on the whole, I have to agree with silentwind. To any meaningful increase to the attractiveness of tanks, the paradigm of what it means to tank (or, to heal or dps) has to change. Many, many (relatively poor) DPS players feel that they are free of group responsibilities or performance benchmarks as long as they're playing DPS, and prefer that lower-stress method of gaming. As long as they're wholly permitted to maintain that illusion, that's a sizable portion of players that aren't going to touch tanks for fear of actually having to... do things.

You can more noticeably show that DPS really do have to expend just as much effort to perform well. You can make tanks appear less increasedly stressful. You can force DPS to participate in more responsibilities. Any of these. But something would have to change or become newly pronounced to shock that player group into reassessment.

Sadly that's just one reason, though. Aesthetics, button-flow, toolkit cohesion, character fantasy, (non-relative) parse-mania and the like are all further reasons one may stick wholly to DPS, and only a couple of those are solvable with new jobs, either.

I wouldn't say this is the main reason for the lack of tank and healer players so much as just the stigmas associated with those roles, especially in regard to tanks. In this game, I've heard and seen so many cases of good tanks who are genuinely horrible people, bad tanks (mostly playing warriors) who are too obsessed with how much damage they're doing, and people trying tank classes for the first time only to wind up in tears because of how much crap they were getting from other players. As for healers, I've had friends who played healers in statics only to be kicked from them because their DPS was five or ten percent lower than whatever ludicrous amount those statics wanted from them.

What makes matters worse is that it's all caused by those "many, many (relatively poor) DPS players", which makes me think that if there's ever a mount exclusive to any DPS job, it should look like a paper snowflake.

IDK, honestly think it depends on how well they balance the 3 tanks and healers we have right now. I mean look at DRK, its sitting in almost identical spot PLD was sitting at during HW. Perhaps they may even only create 1 new job that is a dps job in the next expansion and focus on more content next expansion.

There are alot of jobs right now. And if tanks and healers are balanced going into 5.0, that only puts more salt in the wound to add another tank and healer job in the mix.

Seeing the tiger animations out in Yanxia makes me wish there was a Beastmaster or some sort of beast morphing job. The same goes for most of the other wild beasts in the game.

I never said it was the main reason, only a "sizeable portion"; I listed 5 other reasons that already compete with it just below my mentioning it. But the perceived stress of the tanking role is consistently the lead reason given on player and especially official pulls, closely followed only by an even more ambiguous "too boring".

But yes, the stigma has ended up cutting in both directions. Many people expect more from tanks than DPS because their performance is visible. Did they allow for the conventional large pull? <Check> Did they survive it? <Check> Were they in tank stance only as long as would seem needed? <Check> To be fair, they could be messing up their rotation right and left, but we wouldn't be able to see it behind all those mobs or the massive boss, in most cases -- only the stance buff, their HP bar, and the frequency of healing required to keep him or her up in place of the healer's name.

All jobs in this game could benefit hugely from a context-realistic Proving Ground of sorts, or even a challenge series of Guildhests that can by their end rival or even exceed Savage difficulty, but just in small and therefore manageable doses each time. Heck, just imagine being able to use one of the Azys Lla nodes to create a "virtual" dungeon where actually decent AI assist you in a way that allows for a bit of skipping around to key challenges, and without being quite limited to the pathing of a squadron, etc. Includes reminders to sprint, reveals where mobs spawn, recommends reaching up to a given point to tank all or whatever portion you can handle, allows you to rewind, and has scrolling text and cooldown indicators for your teammates' abilities. Voila; you now have a feel for when to pop what, and have the guidelines under your belt.

I could totally see Blue Mage as a possible Garlean themed job. Let me explain.

Garleans can't use magic, so they have to have special devices to be able to cast similar spells to what we do. I'm pretty sure they have a different name for their spells.

They could probably make some device (that ends up being a soul stone) that records attacks against the user and registers them for use.

He said no such thing; only that it would be difficult to implement. He said the same regarding Red Mage. Will we be hunting open world mobs to learn their abilities? Probably not. All they'll do is tie that aspect of Blue Mage into quests.

I would definitely like Puppetmaster to be added as either a debuff healer or magical dps.
Then again I am always happy about any other non straight healer (yes I very much dislike WHM) with some cool gimmicks.

Also, Dancers make me think twice about any thought against race-locked classes. Roegadyn male dancers with the same toolkits, stats, and animations as female miqote? One would seem to stretch reality and common sense a fair bit, in addition to any skimpy traditional outfits.

Blue magic is still 'magic' in a magical sense, and not artificially developed like what the Garleans do. Of course, there is the argument that all magic is just undiscovered science :p

Blue mages are not really known for technological advancement though, but based off of your statement, you can basically call Garleans Blue mages. In an odd sense, I think this actually works and a direction the devs could definitely go if ever introducing BLU to FFXIV. When you think about it, they constantly use the powers of others to achieve their goals, which is what BLU is all about.

I'm sure I posted on this one or another one like it. Too lasy to look as I post under my account and my hubbies. BUT DANCER... I loved it in FFXI... It would work in FFXIV as any 3 current roles.

Parry/Evation tank. This would be more of a reactionary tank vs proactive tank. Ya you would have your cooldown to take the tank buster but most of the moves would be after the attact to recover from the dmg.
DPS, Well that's easy simaler to BRD MCH bit in close.
Healer, Do minor DPS more then current healers and in closer but get stacks for doing dps that inturns lets you heal with dances.

I enjoy RDM, but I do feel they missed a big part of the class' appeal with mixing up melee and magic. It's basically a caster that has to put itself in danger once every 30 seconds to a minute for a combo and then jump out. Melee is barely part of the class at all.

I Would rather not having new jobs for now. They should make a new expansion that will be different from 2.0 3.0 4.0, it has always been the same pattern, things need to change here.

So i hope to see that it wont be higher than Lv.70, having job get combo skill system like in PvP so they can add plenty more of abilities/utilities.
Jobs we could enhance throught a system like Spherier/Merit/Job Point.
And Maybe add the Double Specialisation, so a Mage can be a healer and mêlee a tank (for lower content).

So from all that, a Red Mage could specialise into a Duelliste, a Warrior into a Berserker, a Bard into a Ranger and stuff...

Yes. The combo without mana and the auto-attack both should deal valuable damage to make the player switch between melee and magic for more than just one rotation (or triple-using the AoE skill). It should be a caster that prefers fighting up-close and spell slinging from point-blank range, using the range against more dangerous foes or to maintain an up-time when having to stay away to dodge AoE's.

The mana gauge should be used for something else. For example Verholy and Verflare could be cast with it, instead of generating it.

That being said, I actually like Red Mage as it is enough. It's just that the hop-in, hop-out nature is kind of...forced.

I feel the same, they need a Merit & Job Point system. We come to the stage where we settle on the jobs we like. I've not noticed many people dabbling in all of them anymore like in ARR days.

But expansions are designed to bring people in or back, and lauding new jobs is the best way to do that.

While it's true many choose to settle on a job (and I'm definitely guilty of that, I use my PLD... Once every two or three months), my mch went from mnk to sam to drg in as many months... I think, if there is such a system, that it should be a Role focused one...

Before heavenward i played this game in something of a limbo. I hated Dragoon not because it was a bad job but because it was not the job i wanted. Warrior scratched the itch of an your face front liner with no positionals and "cowardly" back attacks. Enter Dark Knight, heavy plate, greatsword, and enough edge to cut yourself just by looking at that armor. This was the job i wanted, even when it was announced it would rip me out of my comfort zone of DPS and force me to Tank (something i didn't even think i'd enjoy to an extent).

When Samurai was announced as a DPS, i thought it was a mistake and a wasted opportunity. Here you had a job wildly demanded that could have brought people in to Tanking (as was done for me) and yet the already congested Eastern themed DPS pool gets another floater in the pool to choke the DPS que times. Whats worse for all the complaints that it would have added nothing to Tanking here we sit with it having no utility to DPS roles... Funny that. However whatever my personal feelings it was a job that people flocked to, enjoyed and now main because it suits their preference.

MMO's are beloved because you get to make your character, your role in the story, and just as importantly, how you interact with that world. Ever since FFIV i wanted to play as a Dark Knight in game (i did so in FFXI), many waited with baited breath for Samurai and Red Mage. Many are still waiting for that job that really reflects their personality in FFXIV.

I hope we see more jobs with every expansion, new races (even if it's just a human with animal parts), and continue to get great stories that tie them all together.

Tank - Engineer - Two Handed Hammer: Deploys assist fields that act as AOE buffs for allies/ Debuffs for enemies. Has a rivalry with Machinist for best use of Magi-tech innovations

DPS - Mystic/ Mystic Knight - Scythe: Similar to FFXI Dragoon in that it has a pet that can assist in battle with buff auras and debuff attacks on enemy units. Able to switch stance with pet as lead attacker and support gaining new skills in each stance.

Tank - Blue Mage - Two swords or whip sword: Uses learned skills (job story line) from enemy types or is fulled by Ceruleum used in the Garlean Empire. Attacks and skills must balance an over heat or corruption gauge to make the most of their skill set.

Healer - Geomancer - Double bladed staff: Heals party members by attacking the enemy up close and using wards and auras to buff allies and debuff enemies. Uses elemental wards and totems.

Same. It's a decent enough caster. I just wish it was more than that.

See, as long as we're not going to have forced tank choices for given fights, I don't see how you can translate a physical (e.g. parry-) centric job into an XIX tank. The Sword Saint at least had a bit of magicality to it, and could probably have split the difference between Samurai and Rune Knight well enough, but Samurai itself just seems too niche to participate effectively in a non-typal tank lineup.

Oddly enough, DRK's life-tap mechanics, on the other hand, would make sense for a tank, and only for a tank. On a DPS, life-tap simply turns hyper-efficient heals like HoTs into basically free DPS, as the difference between Life-tapping and not would have to be necessarily stronger than the GCDs the healer is losing, as it'd have to be balanced around less efficient choices (e.g. direct heals) in order to see any use outside of pairings with WHMs, etc. But on a tank, life-taps could be used as a way to level out damage spikes, taking damage by choice when damage is light as not to allow for overheals, while using the defense gained from those lifetaps in order to flatten the spikes to follow.

Don't know much about FFXIV lore, but maybe a range magical tank. But if they add more jobs again they should increase the raid composition size. As SE is not good at balancing tank ratios as we have seen from experience.

Personally I'd like to see Chemist be attempted.

Having a Chemist that can "utilize" potions in battle (a big buff to the overall effectiveness of it, FFT), create unique combinations with the on-hand inventory [and maybe even consider a new, but limited space, cross-party box] to have a large heals selection and a decent DPS output (think Rikku and "Mix" from FFX), but is dependent on utilizing/managing resources from actual inventory with conscious effort.

The last suggestion could be a point of concern for many, as it would create a job that would have a large dependence on Gil. This could be offset by many factors, including the leveling/utilization of the Alchemist job by the player, the Market Board, and the over-abundance of potions/elixirs/etc that we probably discard anyway.

I pretty much got what I wanted when they added Samurai. Can't ever see myself giving it up.

But I wouldn't mind seeing Mystic Knight (Spellblade) that actually is a true melee magic user- maybe as a tank even or melee support job, Gambler (learned from someone at the Gold Saucer!), Chemist (Magic Using Support), and Chronomage (also Magic Using Support).
