Actively hunt, use your server's hunt linkshells, and find out what times they're usually being spawned, and it likely won't take 30 years. Or wait for the cash shop version that will inevitably come out.

It's a reward for those that like hunting enough to devote a lot of their playtime to it. For everyone else its something to maybe get them into hunting.

But when it becomes hours of trying to spawn that particular S rank, it is very much random. And the less spoken about how stubborn certain marks like Agrippa and Rider are even when you do get relevant maps, the better.

Actually, it is because the server decided that. The server just doesn't decide that after a certain amount of time like with the A ranks, but it has a chance to decide that every time you meet the spawn condition. And in the case of most S ranks, the server can also arbitrarily decide it doesn't want to spawn that S rank. Most S ranks are gated behind at least that RNG if not other RNGs like fishing.

Just to clarify something, neither "Gold saucer players" or raiders can enjoy of their bragging rights forever. Raids get nerfed because of echo, overgearing, heck! you can even buy your clears! and it doesn't depend on your schedule. MGP is easy to obtain (challenge log, MGP events, many sources). It doesn't depend on your schedule either. Hunts, specifically S ranks, are a static resource it gets worse as people get better gear, as they just get deleted from the map when they spawn. They can pop or can't pop when you're offline. Realistically, the achievement is insane. Halving it would make more sense than just keeping it as it is.

Other than that, I completely agree with everything William said.

This mount will get progressively easier every expansion as new hunt mobs are added to the pool.

Lots of things happen when you're AFK or offline. Gathering nodes, GS events, farm parties, big boss fates, etc. Hell for the first like month of Stormblood I couldn"t get my last 2 Ixion horns because he kept spawning while I was at work, in class, or asleep. That's just bad luck.
If you want the mount, hunt for it. If you're going to criticize the system, ask for things that would make the hunt system better. 24-36 hour respawn times instead of 72, more health/ survivability for hunt mobs, tougher mechanics, or just more unique hunts in general. Halfing the criteria for the mount isn't going to solve the base problem.

New hunt mobs will be added, yes--but the old ones will get progressively weaker due to overgearing, and die faster until they are practically soloable, so to an extent, that will cancel out the gains made by adding new mobs.

Now, if the old mobs either scaled up in hit points or defense, scaled down in the length of pop windows, or were immune from attack for three minutes after being spawned, that might shine a different light on it.

I'd much rather they redesign how hunts work than simply use the achievements/mount as a fix. As it stands, you'll get credit for more S ranks if you actively hunt, but it's the least efficient way to go about getting credit. You can make a quite a bit of progress just by leeching in a linkshell and using a tracker/radar.

Should absolutely not happen. While they count for achievements end-game players want, the ARR hunts are still level 50 content and should therefore be doable by the level ranges they were intended for. At this point I think a better change to the hunt system would be to utilize a sync-down system similar to FATEs where you will not be able to even damage the hunt mark unless you're synced down. This would answer a lot of the current issues as soloing them would suddenly no longer be viable, and they're likelier to survive much longer, helping people get to the location and at least hit the thing if not do so enough to get some nice credit.

I never understood this particular suggestion. People are (apparently) pulling too fast, so the solution is to make people waste cooldowns, openers, time, etc attacking a mob that wont take damage and thus cant be tanked and is now running around potentially one shotting people???

Or they can sit there and not pull until the invul is down thus giving everyone time to get there? Assuming you can even pull something you can't do damage to, if you did pull it, that's honestly your fault.

I don't honestly know. Is that how Ixion works? I've never arrived at Ixion to see it attacking people while invulnerable, so if that happens, then yeah, it would be terrible if hunts did that. If it was unpullable until it was made vulnerable, that might be different.

Also, I should clarify, I'm not advocating what I think SE "should" do, just laying out some options that are available to them.

Sight aggro can pull just about anything. Additionally mistakes happen. I pulled Bird of Paradise on my bard because i forgot i had auto attacks again when Stormblood first dropped. I've seen ton of people, sprouts and veterans alike just straight up wander into hunts by accident. Plus the handful of S-ranks that spawn right on top of you once they're triggered. The cyclops in Central Thanalan whose name escapes me at the moment comes to mind. Kaiser Behemoth is another although he just has a chance to spawn on top of you, he has an equal chance of doing so a short distance away as well.

Its just a suggestion I see offered a lot whenever anyone makes a thread about ninjapulling and it has literally never made sense to me ever.

And strangely raiders cant really brag much about their mounts because one expansion later its nerfed thanks to the option to unsynch it. So strangely the part of the game which has the hardest content have mounts that can be get by everyone if they wait a bit. While hunts which are far from hard have already quite a lot of mounts, minions and other stuff behind it and on top of that get a mount which needs years of constantly doing S rangs. At least with Gold saucer I can work on it whenever I feel like it. If someone has some free days they could spent it all in the gold saucer and get their mounts in their time. While with hunts you are out of luck if you are working while most of them spawn, or arrive too late or are in a dungeon. On top of that a lot of the S ones are dying way too fast so even if you are in the zone you might not be there on time.

Because this mount was on the wish list of a lot of people thus probably more casual players than hardcore hunters.

I mean if we ask it like that: Why are the mounts in savage and extreme primals achievable if you do it unsynch? Why are the casuals allowed to earn them later even though its savage content. Why are hunts and pvp suddenly completely different from the rest of the game where every single bit of achievement will be nerfed over time..why should they stay special?

Not necessarily. We already have the problem right now that you need to be at the zone of the old S ranks if you even want to stand a chance of participating in their kills..in the next expansion any S rank from ARR-SB will be killable with barely any people here so if they dont change it all the older ones will be less possible to do. So if they dont just suddenly double or triple the amount of new S ranks in the next expansion people will have even less ranks to kill since most will be probably killed before you reach them. So theoretically if they dont change anything with that it might become even harder over the time.

Yeah -- when people use a hunt radar third party program that practically calls out where a hunt is provided you're in the same area, those of us who aren't on PC really have no chance.

If you want to put it that way, sure, why not have mounts only dropped if your synced down to the content level? Or at least severely nerf the drop rate unsynced. Heck, why even buff the drop rate over time at all or let it be purchasable with tokens? Let it have its base 2% drop rate and be done with it. I wouldn't have a problem with any of that either.

You can eventually get the tiger mount. Theres just no way to speed up the process. You either do the hunt or you don't. Idk why you brought up pvp since thats a completely different matter, but you either pvp or you don't.


The other achievement rewards aren't really nerfed over time either. They didn't lessen the amount of commendations to get the parade chocobo.

And if one person can adjust the spawn timers of every S-rank on your server (presumably by spawning them on their own) without anyone noticing, then hats off to them for knowing how to hunt/ being the only dedicated hunter on their server.

The program you're referring to has a website and last I checked a phone app in beta. Easily available to those on PS4. And someone needs to be close to the hunt mob foe the program to pick it up and report it to everyone else, meaning that person is more than likely actively hunting anyway if they're doing zone sweeps. It's essentially a more convenient callout macro. If you're trying to snipe hunts that's absolutely not a program you would want running on your computer while you're doing it. There are also a large number of people who hunt without it.

We just use a few Hunt LS's dedicated to relaying info on our server. Every now and then you might miss one but typically you can grind a few dozen A ranks a day easily if you're really into it and don't take forever to teleport there.

If I may, I'd like to address something that's been bugging me throughout the course of this thread, on the subject of working for a reward.

I feel as though there's a fundamental disconnect between the people for and against modifying this achievement. I've seen several people suggest that we want it "nerfed," or made easier, or take less time (yes, I even emphasized the time factor myself) because we're afraid of hard work. For me, it's not about being afraid of hard work, it's about being rewarded appropriately for the work that I do, and I just don't feel that the tiger measures up.

Consider Astrope. That there is a thing of beauty. It's got feathers, and plumes, and fringes, and draperies, and a unicorn horn, and pegasus wings, and it's a two-seater to boot! I can look at that and say, "Yes, that is absolutely worth 2000 Mentor Roulettes, and if I never have it, it'll be my own fault, and I will accept my lack thereof with grace and good humour." (Total Mentor Roulettes done to date: Zero. I'll get around to it, I swear.)

I can't say that about the tiger. I mean, it's okay, but......it's just a tiger. It's no more special than a bear, or a lion, or a black coeurl, and even Little Miss Hates-to-tank Kyulili will have the bear eventually because I tend to solo Garuda Ex for Wondrous Tails, just for kicks. And when I get my warbear, I'll think to myself, "Okay, that feels about the right amount of reward for the effort I put into it." But if and when I ever get the tiger, if no changes are made to the way it is obtained, I doubt I'll even feel that much enthusiasm for it, I'll just think, "Thank God that's over," and it'll go into the Roulette box, and I probably won't even give it its own hotbar button like I did for Whisper A-Go-Go because I'll resent how ordinary it looks compared to what I had to slog through to get it.

Now, hot take: Suppose they decoupled the A-Rank requirement from the S-Rank requirement and made each one its own achievement, with its own mount. You kill 3000 A-Ranks, you get a plain Jane tiger. Okay. You kill 2000 (or even 1000) S-Ranks, and you get the Deluxe Tiger. I'm talkin', a white tiger with a beaded headdress, and ribbons on the tail, and a Persian rug hammock slung up on golden stilts, dripping with fringe, where your character leans back on a velvet pillow and a Moogle pops grapes into their mouth. And its eyes glow in the dark. A tiger fit for a Maharajah. Not the tiger I can go look at in Yanxia anytime I want.

That would be worth it to me, even if I never got it. That would be, in my eyes, a reward commensurate with the effort it took to obtain. And that's where the disconnect is. Some of you think we just want everything now, when all we want is value for our time, and for things to retain that value for a reasonable number of months or even years. The tiger is still very nice, and I still would like to have one, but not at the price SE is currently asking me to pay. And if that never changes, I'll make peace with it.

EDIT: Well, it's almost 5.1, and I felt I should come back and amend what I said here. Since making this post, World Visit became a thing, Cross-world Linkshells became a thing, and then 5.0 dropped in all its triple-instance glory, and I just have to say.....I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna get that tiger. I didn't honestly think it would happen, but World Visit has helped me make SO much progress, I'm actually farther ahead on my S ranks than I am on my A ranks. (I can fix that with trains, tho, no prob.) I have less than 500 S ranks to go, and now some of those are counting towards the Triceratops as well. I feel like I'm in a much more hopeful place now, where hunts are concerned. Thank you, fellow hunters. When I get there, I will say, very truthfully, that I couldn't have done it without you. ♥

This is incredibly wrong, this is not how S rank spawn windows work, some of them have 0 RNG (Senmurv) but you can't spawn it because the server hasn't given you the green light, there's a minimum and a maximum statistically recorded ToD (as SE does not provide this info), the server will set a time within this window where your attempts to spawn it will start counting, this time is not visible for players and you might be 100% wasting your time if you're trying before this random time is reached.

This is the real, unpredictable part of spawning S ranks, you can try for hours and not get any result because although a third party hunt tracker says "it has been killed earlier than this at one point in time" it doesn't mean the server has given you the green light, and those spawn windows can be as big as 18 hours.

Nandi has no chance involved either, if the time set server side for spawn has been reached then it will spawn when you walk over the chosen spawn point, if it doesn't then that time the server set has not been reached yet.

This is why I say an achievement like this, made for people who play 16 hours a day, is not good for the overall community and just promotes bad health practices.

Because they want to make content accessible over time when the hardcore raiders have long since cleared it. Yoshi-P himself encouraged people to run the HW Ex primals now that we can unsync them. This is a game, it's bad policy to design content to exclude people without having some sort of long-term plan. It's one thing if you dislike that game mode, sure, them's the breaks, you can't please everyone and your only option is to put in as many game modes as possible. But as content loses relevance to its original target audience, it's not unwise to make it more accessible to the larger population. You wouldn't have a problem with that, sure, but thankfully the team in charge of this game is smarter than that. My one hope is that that rumor someone brought up a few pages back saying that Eureka kills will tick towards S and A rank kills is true. This still gives people bragging rights until that content is released, as well as the ability to say they got it without Eureka, while still making the mount achievable to the wider population as well as newer players.

I'll say it one last time and then go on with my life - the Hunt is the one game mode where even if you do hunt, you might not get the achievement. People keep bringing up the Mentor Roulette as a comparable grind but it really isn't. I'm at 1k mentor roulettes and the only reason I'm not higher is because SB came out and added the HW Ex primals to it and I haven't done those yet. But that's on me, it's my decision to procrastinate on it, and within my ability to rectify should I choose. Not so much up to me is having a life that doesn't add up with my server's hunting schedule. Just now I missed out on two S ranks because I took a shower. Meanwhile the Mentor roulette isn't going anywhere even if I take a nap or lose internet connection for a week. I will still have access to it when I return, whereas the S ranks will be locked for a maximum of three days. I might have the time and motivation to hunt, but I will not be able to do so.

Personally, I gave up on this achievement. It's getting filed along with most of the PvP stuff under things I'm not going to achieve and that's fine, not everything in the game is for everyone. And I still hold that this achievement is more so a "Veteran award" for the long-term hunters than anything anyone should actively work for. It helps that the mount isn't one I'm particularly interested in, but therein lies the crux of the matter - apparently a lot of other people are, and that's the problem. You're not going to see people complain about achievements like completing 10k FATEs or 10Mil MGP or 10Mil/20Mil Gil from levequests because they didn't put anything people really wanted behind those irrational achievements. And even then it won't be comparable because all of those things are a lot more farmable than S ranks. It's hard for me to say they even had to have added that particular hunting achievement because it's a joint achievement, depending on you completing two separate achievements. They just slapped a highly anticipated mount on ridiculous content, and while I get they wanted to give hunters something nice, ultimately, I think that was a mistake.

Even halving it a working stiff like me that gets 20 hours a week and flies to every call I can I'm at 1100 A's and 300 S's. I took 4 months out in the midst, but it would still take me 2 to 3 years to get at half the S ranks. I agree I like it takes dedication, but what am I supposed to get a site stand desk with a Treadmill and sit here like a hamster on a wheel. I may as well get a Tesla battery for my home and sell the power I get treadmillin' it to help pay for my sub while I'm at it.

Something which really is not okay are the spawn times of the S Ranks. So we wait the 80 or so minimum hours for the HW and SB S Ranks, but then purely based on RNG or whatever, they may not appear for up to 50 hours.That is 2 freaking days! I highly doubt these things weren't tested by the twonks who constantly tell SE everything they want to hear. Too many people spend too many hours trying to make the S Ranks appear with no pay off. It's really unacceptable and not enough people are angry about it. All the people I spawn S Ranks hate it, people who don't spawn them will just say "well, it's up to you how you spend your time" but when the S Ranks is pretty much the only thing to do in the open world (especially if you don't have a house) then it is a huge pain. SE needs to pull their heads from their arse and realise that it is way out of order to give these things such a huge window to appear. Reduce them all to 6 hours.

The thing that bothers me about hunts really is the very thing that bothers me about Gold Saucer stuff. You can only do it when you're not doing anything else. Like with Astrope from the Mentor Roulette, you can set aside a dedicated time to do that roulette on your own. You can work toward it at your own pace and that makes it more meaningful. But hunts are another thing entirely - every one of them has their own special conditions, some of which are tied to server whims or not. It's beyond the player's control and it's not something they can realistically set aside a chunk of time to work toward UNLESS they want to do that to the exclusion of everything else.

At least with almost everything else in this game, you can work on A while you're also waiting for B.

I really wish they wouldn't take the most-requested mounts and put them behind ridiculous requirements. Conversely, I wouldn't want them to be handed out like candy. Somewhere in between would be a good balance.

Simply put:

Let hunters work toward the mount at their own pace by letting daily/weekly hunts count toward the total.

Let PVPers work toward their hellhounds by accumulating wolf collars throughout ranking seasons of the Feast.

Yup, I really enjoy PVP but never stand a chance of ever obtaining a prize through The Feast, I often work 60-84 hours a week and with the time I do have to play I've got to try to cap so I don't fall behind with gear, I'll hunt because I enjoy it and then there's that whole being alive outside of a video game which seems to be punishable by SE.

Maintenance tomorrow, Patchday in 3 days - what a great time to hunt...
