What about checking the stats of the item before buying it. I don't suffer from dyslexia but I keep looking at a materia's stat before buying it, I never remember which one does what.

its 2 hrs, and same for drops, you got a 2 hr time to trade it to anyone that MEETS the REQUIREMENTS to obtain the drop, meaning by definition, you can't use this to abuse the weekly lockout since someone that did obtain a weekly would not meet the requirement to get a new one.
I explained that before, that is how I am able to tell the others apart. However skill speed and spell speed is a huge problem. All 3 ways of checking it is easy mix up, copy/paste icon, the name of it, and the stat name are all too easy to mix up.
Agreed, I do hate all the running around and I have it much worse since I have to recheck things so much.
It is their flaw of the game having such a high turnover for gear, it is not a defense to mask one flaw with another.
+1
Why? they do the SAME THING!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...XG8/edit#gid=0
There is NO REASON to have a split of skill speed and spell speed. For the jobs that use both, have very low importance on the main speed anyway (RDM,PLD) It is pointless bloat. If they did drasically different things I can see why you would say that but in this game they are literally the same stat, just applies to different GCs.
Also it is not a defense for our current that something was worse.
Also they should change the coloring/icons, this game has too much copy/paste with icons. It is not a convenience.
Never said it wasn't. I hate the speed of turn over for gear. But at the same time demanding not having stock names is a bit unreasonable because 1 small group of people may have a bit more difficulty reading something. Like I said...
Should there be a trade in? Yes. But is it a life or death, game breaking, needs immediate attention concern? No. It's merely a QoL thing and nothing more.
How does not having a trade in feature become a detriment to the fun of the game as a whole?
I always thought the fun comes from the content, not the ability to trade in an item after you spammed keys to quick, closed a window that asks you if you really need the item and then agreed again to buy it. I don't have dyslexia, and I still triple check then check again when the box pops. If you need an extra moment, its not like its on a timer.
They simply cannot cater to every little need every player has and once you learn life works like that, the happier you will be cause you can simply accept it and move on. Not to mention, something that is QoL to you may be burdensome for someone else. This is proven by the amount of keys we already need to hit to sell or buy something. People complained so hard they added a bunch of steps to something that needs at most 2. So not matter what the little annoyances, inconveniences and frustrations are going to add up for someone, somewhere, so where does it stop?
And the funny thing is that I agree, it should be something they look into. But its not game breaking they don't have it. You are turning this into something it simply isn't.
There really isn't a reason to NOT have a way to remedy an unintentional exchange. That said I doubt it's very high on the dev's to-do list. Most people don't have an issue doing so, though I personally have made this sort of mistake before and I don't have Dyslexia. Since I made that mistake I double, triple, quadruple check before I purchase my gear. Mistakes happen. Sort of just gotta shrug it off and carry on. Being able to trade your purchase back in for the tomes you spent would be nice regardless. Again, no real reason NOT to have it.
Sorry for having a differing opinion, and I do like where you ignored what I mentioned about possibly changing skill speed materia to orange instead of purple to get rid of that confusion.
Also I'm very aware of what you linked in your very first post. Still I'm allowed to have my own thoughts on Skill and Spell speed being different. Some classes have both spell and skill speed, while some classes only have skill or spell speed to affect their class. Personally I think if they were combined, I think there'd be some small re-balancing needed to certain classes.
You need to calm down a bit though.
So... I can't ask why? you ranted to me without answering my question.... well at first anyway, a bit confused over rant > answer > rant.
This is why I said they are all on low importance on jobs that use both, ohh more then blm can actually meld speed after this change? *world ends* I extremely doubt any rebalance would be needed and it would be interesting to me if something other then BLM or BRD are doing something different then DH > all. (and offsetting rare cases of too low speed combos, like what sam may run into) With that said, secondaries do need re-balance, DH is too good compared to the rest. It is like HW of crit or 2.0 of DET, can SE ever balance secondaries? I am at the point at questioning why have them when it is becoming clearer and clearer it is just illusion of choice, esp when this game is not transparent of the effects. It is confusing to me why I need to do all this research to know if I should really pick up this 330 gear when the 320 can be better. i do not know and it is hard to find out because of the lack of transparency, and can be stressful at times.
Then you do not know all people. For me I do not care AT ALL!!!<< about reskining content every 2-3 months just to be on a never ending gear tredmill for gear that greatly makes you OP for the current content. I would also like content to last longer then 2 weeks (lol@ delta normal) It is boring to me. I play this game to have fun with my friends and craft, so as long as they need something I go, they want help with a craft I do it. So QoL changes may be more important to me then others, Idk how they feel because I am not them but I really do not look forward in out dating gear every 2-3 months, game made me hate Tuesdays. (I did not feel this way in HW because it was still sorta new to me, I had no combat at 60 for a while, and took me long time to get pld and whm to 60. So when I finally leveled all the jobs, it was after gero, so I was still learning the formula first hand. So see the same thing in SB, just reskining everything I did, I was not exactly joyed, then I examine the past and saw everything was done like this since 2.0, I was not happy.)
They did other QoL changes like staying in a sit position after you exit a DF, it was in SB notes. For me I rather have fixes like this issue and inventory space more then them. Hell Id go without "new content" for 6 months if it meant fixing those issues. Hard for me have fun when I have to worry about the correct exchange on a weekly lockout currency even taking like 5 + minutes to do so, checking more then 4 times and still get it wrong, hard for me have fun when inventory issues are stressful.
We all make mistakes. Every single one of us. Dyslexic or not. We don't need to have reading comprehension issues to make a poor judgement call. A small grace period would fix a lot of these mis-clicks. Just an option to turn the item back into the seller within the next couple of minutes or an NPC that will facilitate exchanges.
No, you can ask why. Just keep in mind your context doesn't entirely make it through on the internet. Saying 'Why? they do the SAME THING!' seems more either aggressive, or that you're not actually expecting an answer.
And you don't really need to min/max stuff unless you like driving yourself crazy, are an end game raider, or just want to squeeze every last bit of DPS you can get with what you can get. Personally the most stuff I've done at this point is just up to the EX primals in 4.X, no intenton hard core raiding.
With what you said in bold though, it, to me, comes off as you pointing the issue more at yourself when you're not the only one who may have those issues, dyslexic or not. I have bad short term memory due to head trauma in the past, and I have to do similar things when purchasing items unless it's something I'm getting on the marketboard due to typing in the item's full name. You do know how to spell quicktongue and quickarm, so just type that in on the MB without having to just use the 'Materia only tab', since you look like you're just searching for rank VI materia only, try just the type of materia next time. There's that issue solved, hooray workarounds.
I do not know what is what, it does not make sense to me in how it relates to the stat, so remembering it isn't possible. The names are too much alike so it can get easily mix up what is what. You are not understanding the issue fully, because the names are so alike, it is easy to recall the wrong name for the wrong stat and get it wrong. To make it easier to understand, you are basically asking me to know the difference of quicktongue and quicktongue. Regardless they do the same thing, there is no point in having a stat called "haste" be split into 2 stats when they do the same thing, there is no balance to adjust.
It is not aggressive, it is making it clear people know where I am coming from because there is a possibility they did not read my post. How you expect me to know if you read the full thing in detail when people keep repeating "game has a pop up window so no change is needed" when if they read what I was saying in full, would know not to comment that since it does not apply to the situation.
Sorry for your issues.
But for the same reason you request they make the change there is no reason to.
Because so much gear is easy to get again.
Outside diadem Random stats gear, nothing in this game can't be gotten again in quick order if you made a mistake.
Tome body, pants and weapons take 2 or more weeks to replace because of the boring tome cap system. And it also locks you out of getting tome pieces for the same job or secondaries.
Nothing is particularly hard to obtain in the game, but it consumes time.
That's still not a good reason not to have a refund grace period, tbh.
The issue is not difficulty, the issue is the artificial time gating. I should not have to be 1-4 weeks behind (depending on item, or god forbid making a mistake on weapon, that is 7 weeks) Just because the game can't make names clear.
This
I'm just arguing the point because the OP is so aggressive and demanding.
Would it be a good QoL option. Of course.
But barging in throwing around demands and yada yada and saying its because you have a disability is just bad form. I know people who have disabilities can have it rough. It's not like I do not have my own. And making a sensible argument on why it would not only cater to the disabled but be a good thing for the community as a whole is one thing. Coming in with guns blazing demanding changes because it's all about you and your own personal fun, is quite another. I get when you have a disability many places tend to cater to you and when one doesn't you can feel slighted. But come on, chill. It's not all about you.
tldr: frame your argument better
Is the stat between skill speed and spell speed weighed differently?
Just my two cents here regarding the bracelet/ring mistake. You've been getting gear with tomes/ raid drops for how long? I'd assume since 2.0. And you must have done it for your DOM classes for about the same amount of time, correct?
You should know that there are only 2 rings you could buy at that vendor selecting DOM and they are the bottom 2 positions. The bracelets are above them. Those spots haven't changed.
Choosing the wrong one most likely wasn't from a disability, it was more likely caused by you not paying attention to the positions.
No it is not, it is literally the same stat (pointed this out several times)
This post was also inserted in the first post.
I said several times I spend a lot of time trying to figure out the names, and even often picked "DOW II" for healer for a long time in HW. Even with all that time spent I still make mistakes. I am throwing my hands up at this point being fed up and saying at this point 'It is not me, there is no reason I should put this much effort into trying to select something when no effort is put in to show the different gear better"
It is confusing, it is not user friendly. Just because it is clear to you, does not mean no issue is there. A lot of people pointed out the menu hell this game does when tying to upgrade stuff and so on, it def can be better streamlined and clearer on what the gear goes to what job.
The only one that needs to chill is you, this post is very rude.
In fairness, outside of Oceania, NA, and Europe (minus Eastern Europe), if you have a disability, touch luck. Gotta deal with the extra challenges it brings with no support. In Japan people with disabilities are not legally entitled to any support during their later school years because of disability (I know this as I researched this back when I was trying to be a TEFL teacher), as such, they are dependent on having understanding teachers that will make adjustments, as if they don't, they have no legal recourse.
This phrase alone is a CLEAR indicator that you actually have absolutely no idea what it's like to live with a disability. Almost hilariously ironic too, if it wasn't so shortsighted and tone deaf.
Dismissing someone's argument and experiences because they're different than your own is way, way worse than what you're accusing the OP of doing.
No effort?
You had several places to see the difference, and they're not all equally affected by dyslexia.
For one, the words you failed to distinguish are "Ring" and "Bracelet". Even if your condition makes the letters hard to distinguish, you can still go by the length and overall shape of words, and one of those words is twice as long as the other.
Those words appeared multiple places, any of which you could have checked. It's within the name of the item (both on the vendor's list and the tooltip), and it's also the name of the item type shown on the tooltip just under the icon.
Speaking of icons, there's another couple indicators of the difference. If you have trouble making out the words, then go by the pictures. The vendor's list shows the icons for each item type along with the name, and the icon for bracelet slot items is quite different than the icon for ring slot items:
https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/w/imag...ar_12_Icon.png https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/w/imag...ar_13_Icon.png
Then the tooltip has the icon for the item itself:
https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/...dc4bb.png?4.06 https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/lds/...f9e6c.png?4.06
Those are very different, though admittedly you wouldn't be as familiar with them. If you want familiarity, the slot icons are distinct enough and you've been seeing those ones since the day you first started playing this game.
And finally, most players by this point are familiar with the order in which gear is listed. If you simply knew that the ones on the bottom are rings and the ones above that are bracelets, that could also have prevented the error. (Admittedly, relying solely on this last one would be susceptible to error if SE ever changed their sorting pattern, but they haven't yet.)
The gear names are chosen to be very easy to sort out. They each have three pieces of information in a regular, predictable pattern: what set the piece goes with, what slot it's for, and what role it's for. Some players may complain about that uniformity as boring, but it's there to make identification easier.
You know when purchasing gear that those are the three things to look for, and each is available multiple ways, including in the item's name.
Set: First part of the item's name. Also recognizable by its Item Level. And generally known by the fact that it will be the set bought in this place for this currency at this price...
Slot: Middle part of the item's name. Also identified by the item type listed on the tooltip. Also identified by the item type icon on the vendor list. And can be known by the position where it's sorted within that list.
Role: Final part of the item's name. Also recognizable by which stats it boosts. Also recognizable by the list of jobs that can equip it. (In many cases, this can also create a warning if you try to buy items for a job you're not currently on.)
You simply need to be sure you've double checked each of those three things before you purchase. They're each available multiple ways, so you can pick whichever of those ways is least disrupted by your dyslexia.
I actually do. I have some severe back and leg problems that prevent me from sitting for long periods of time and can sometimes put me flat on my back for days at a time. Couple that with an anxiety disorder. But I don't fault the desk makers for making desks to cater to people who can sit in chairs for a long time. Nor do I complain to SE that they have content that can sometimes take long periods of time that I just cannot do because I cannot sit for that long without my back going to hell. I have learned to live with it and change my lifestyle to fit in with my disability, not vice versa. And I am never demanding about things having to change solely for my benefit and the benefit of the few similar to me. If there is a request that I feel should be made, I do so like an adult.
But assumptions are swell aren't they.
Dismissing someone's argument and experiences because they're different than your own is way, way worse...I believe is what you said.
Just to chime in, the devs in the JP forums actually acknolwedged this problem (or rather one that is closely related) and promised that they'll work towards having it clearer for people unfamiliar with the exchanges.
The original thread was about how all the exchange lists are hidden behind indescript dialogue options like "Poetics DoW 1", "Poetics DoW 2", etc. and it was difficult for newbies trying to find the right place to exchange stuff without consulting an external 3rd party guide in the first place, then all the things are scattered everywhere instead of grouping all the tank stuff in one list, all healer stuff in one list, etc. Along the way, it was also mentioned that thet names are so similar it's easy for a newbie to exchange the wrong tier of gear or upgrade materials.
To be fair, the exchange menus in FFXIV are really weird. They were very obviously set up by someone who didn't play the game for long and paid absolutely no thought to the people who actually will be using them, and that can be said about virtually all aspects of the FFXIV UI, or rather, that can be said about Japanese game interface design in general. Usability is a major weakness in Japanese games.
Hopefully, at least by 5.0, they'll do away with weird arrangements like this. Then we won't need to sell-back wrong purchases.
I agree, I had a hard has hell time when I first hit 60. It was too hard to figuring out where everything was, having to run to NPCs not even near each other be the upgrade stuff.
Also as said before I do not get the DW I and DW II, and would go to DW II for a long time to get healer stuff (because to me warrior = combat, I knew the W meant warrior and that is all I understood at the time), Keep in mind I only did crafting for a long time.
Does not change your post to me was extremely rude, and also it is a different situation. Dismissing an issue with mental based disabilities just because you got over or have physical ones is way out in left field there. Maybe you are the one that "tldr: frame your argument better " (PS I have back problems too, i lay to play the game off a laptop, so you are assuming others here do not have that because they do not talk about it, but guess what? it is off topic, that is why it is not bought up)
Also you missed the implied meaning, you do not know what it is like to have this disability being talked about, because if you did, you wouldn't be so rude and offensive.
You are not getting it, it gets mixed up because they are too alike. I thought I was on the ring and buying the ring.
