Why did they change all the voice actors?

I like Alphinaud now. Honestly, he sounded evil with his old voice.

Lady Yugiri sounds like shes trying to poop.

Merylwyb sounds...off...

I can't tell if Ysaeyle is different or not.

Raubahn is slightly different

Ilberd is way different.

I didn't pay enough attention to Urianger to tell if he changed.

I've only reached level 52, i wonder who else is different

With some of them i can't tell if the VA changed, or the english localization team gave them a new angle to act from.

They have Yorkshire accents now. Being from Yorkshire in real life and being highlander in game I heartily approve of this!

Ysayle is different, her old VA had a light lisp that this one lacks.

Also, from what I gather, the new VAs are from the same group that did the voice overs for Xenoblade Chronicles, Dark Souls 2, and Bloodborne (I'm almost certain that Midgardsormr is Gehrman from Bloodborne, which is pretty awesome). Probably the biggest giveaway to me was Aymeric's voice being Alvis', and Tataru's being Fiora's from Xenoblade Chronicles.

You are right about The Simpsons, but there is a slight difference, even though it is animated, its considered a sitcom, some cartoons are, and, ironically, are regulated differently. And also movies are different as well, the likes of Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, and Lewis Black would be paid more, because of their love action actor status, but VAs who are mostly behijd the camera, usually, dont get paid as much, no matter how popular or good they may be. And while I'm not sure if you meant it or not, you only took part of my statement, leaving of the part where I said, at the end, that I wasn't entirely sure. I am only basing this on what I've heard/seen from people in the industry, with what little they can actually say about it.

So far, I like the new voices. It's nice to hear English VAs that sound like they practiced, and weren't rushed into the sound room at the last minute.

I like Midgardsormr's new voice a lot more now. To me, it doesn't sound like he has throat cancer or something now. I know he was supposed to sound old, but his old voice was just... too much, imho.

The real reason is because all of the Japanese voice actors feel like the same extremely generic voices you'd hear in any other japanese game. The English voices of ARR were much more unique in both delivery, accent, and pitch. Just as an example for those too lazy to simply change the voices and hear it in their inn room, here's a sample:

I'm lv55 now the new voice actors that I've heard so far are so F**king bad like REALLY HORRIBLE... ugh I've really lost interest in the story because of how the characters sound... way too used to how they used to sound like before doesn't even seem like same characters anymore... I really couldn't care less if they all died now :/ Every voice is worse than before 80% of them have changed they all pretty much stick out like a sore thumb now since they are completely different (not sure why some ppl are saying they sound slightly different), I liked pretty much all the original voices except for maybe Minfilla now I hate all new ones pretty much .____. seriously why did they change them.... it's a joke.... :(

This has really killed a lot of my excitement for the new expansion. I was so looking forward to it, but now I'm almost dreading it because I don't know if I'll be able to stand all the new voices. Especially Urianger since I'm such a fan of Gideon Emery and I was really looking forward to hearing more of his excellent work.

Oh well, at least it's not all voiced. For once I think I'm glad about that.

It can be pronounced both ways.

it seems like a lot of characters speak British English now.

I don't mind most the voices I've heard so far I'm getting used to the changes but god Merylwyb's voice is just wrong on so many levels, why they thought a posh sounding British voice for her would work is beyond me, she doesn't sound her strong female type anymore.

I hate when there are voice-changes anyways, but it sounds like *ALL* of the characters have been replaced?!?

That's just... no good.

Alphy, Urianger, Minfilia, and Merlwyb were all amazing, and their voices really shouldn't be touched. I can see where the new Alphy might have been more fitting, if he'd been there from the very start, but I'm much too attached to the old crew.

Now, I'm not saying the replacements are bad voice-actors, by any means, but consistency is really important. It's hard to get excited for "Season 2" of the game's story, when the whole cast has been changed...

I like all the voice acting. Before and now. At least none of them are a monotone reading script mess that other mmo's have. They are doing a great job!

I hope a developer says something about this change. I mean changing voice actors is nothing new, but usually it's done with a little more tack. I mean everyone is british now, thats not jarring at all. I mean a new voice here or there without an explaination, sure okay, but every main character, makes me wonder there thought process. I know there can be scheduling conflicts, but I doubt everyones schedule was that conflicted. And, since we know these expansions are made way in advance they should of had plenty of time to figure something out.

This and man does this guy get it. I feel the same damn way. Wanna cry but it's too late now. It's done with. Having to mute sound when they speak. But at least I don't get sick hearing them.

They weren't monotone before. Please understand we got use to the way each person sounded and began a relationship in the game with each and everyone of them. Having a new voice to some of us was shocking and very hard to adjust too.

This is my main problem right now. The new voices aren't even bad and I get that these things sometimes have to happen, but you don't just recast everyone in the game and expect it go unnoticed. I just want to know why, considering it seems some old VA's weren't even notified.

Tataru was probably the most noticable to me. That was a WTF moment.

Also Raubaun(?). You just don't give him a new VA..

She's really hit and miss for me. Agnes' voice was my least favorite from Bravely Default, but sounded pretty convincing as Quark from Virtue's Last Reward.

I could live with any of it , but Merlwyb??? So sad - for me that was the sexiest woman in allll of Eorzea, and it had a lot to do with the voice. Oh well, old cutscenes in the inn I s'pose.

Alph says Comraids instead of comrades. The one outside drybone when you meet Yugiri again. (heavsward)

It's a Yorkshire accent, lol.

The story of 2.0 was so dry and dull I skipped most.
I'm following this one and it's pretty good...
Tataru sounds a little different to me though...don't

Alphinaud doesn't sound bad to me, at all. I barely hear the difference.

ANOTHER edit: Yugiri sounds AWFUL.

Uhm..Yugiri has the same VA as far as I can tell. So by that, she always sounded aweful, I guess.

Yeah that's another one that sticks out.

If you want my honest opinion, most of the voices in 2.0 were terrible. I'm actually able to not cringe to the acting in Heavensward. It's still lackluster, but much better than what 2.0 was.

That made me laugh harder than it should have. I also noticed the dragon speaks a little faster now rather than a slow drawn out drawl that enunciated certain sounds.

I must be one the few people that liked the voices in 2.X AFTER they were getting better. The voices now aren't too terrible, but they sound almost similar to each other and lack distinction.

People that say Japanese voices sound better to them in anime and other forms of media, always make me raise my eyebrows a bit... Japanese voices in media always sound like they are attempting to sound child-like, which is really odd because I've heard people speak Japanese normally, and they don't sound like that. I always use the English speakers. Either way, I've noticed the voice acting has greatly improved with this expansion, so I'm not complaining.

I do think Merlywb's original voice from 2.0 was a lot better. She sounded a lot stronger and I just couldn't help but be fixated to her every word when she spoke. Now, not so much.

Personally I prefer them.

I think the new voice actors are okay, with two exceptions.

Biggs and Wedge sound horrid now. Bleh!

I like Ysayle more now.

Ilberd and Merlwb... oy.
