Who cares If a Guy play as a girl. Lets say you marry him, Its just a game in the end.
honestly i dont know why its such a big deal to some people ._.
if a girl wants to play a guy to avoid h**ny little teenage boys then let her, if a guy wants to play a girl then let him its thier choice and shouldnt affect any1 in anyways if they arent a boy or girl in real life ffs...
the people who claim its creepy, weird or wrong just shows us they are the 1s people should be worried about lol :P
Just to reiterate:
And just to end the discussion, for those of you who say it really doesn't matter. I'm sorry, it's more like you are saying, "it shouldn't matter". Because the fact is, there are more people who care at what you fit into, because it's easier, simpler. No matter how much you wish for your race, gender, etc to not matter, it does. You are categorized by what you have, do, and are. It hasn't changed and by the looks of things, not anytime soon. I applaud your valiant attempts at keeping things equal, and it's noble, but unfortunately it's not real. If it were, well, the world would be a different place, wouldn't it? A little off topic, but that's what it all boils down to. Keep it real.
You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.
I tend to use Masculine pronouns when referring to anyone. Just a force of habit. And people will flip their shit when I say "He" while I'm running end-game content and don't take a moment to glance at your avatar to see if it has tits or not.
It's absolutely rediculous and I'll be honest 'ere - I don't care what your gender is.
it's easy really, they'll be the ones avoiding you for making such a stupid thread on the forums.
Bad! BAD!
Stop!
Gender in an MMO means nothing unless you're interested in that person in the real world too, and can actually find some way to be a part of their real life. Otherwise you're just in a videogame.
Everyone I come across I just assume is a person. That's how I identify any player. If their in FC or Friends I'll use the words they, their which are gender neutral, until said person brings it up if its a problem and then I will correct myself with said information. But a person's real gender has no effect on me, or anyone else ingame so I pay no initial attention to it.
When you log in you are who you are. My issue isn't with people who leave it ambiguous but the people who feel the need to constantly validate their RL gender for no apparent reason. Guys, if you are playing a female and feel uncomfortable when people refer to your character as a "she" when it is, then maybe you don't need to be playing the opposite gender. Or if you are a RL female that feels the need to make sure everyone knows you are don't be surprised when you get "Creeped" on by RL guy players.
It's been said before but the only way to know is if someone willingly reveals it or you ask. I created a character to represent my ideals not my gender. P.S. If you care to know my gender my name actually reveals it. (nothing to do with Xenogears either)
No it is not more enjoyable. It all depends how you like to play the game.
I have a husband, I know him for 14 years, so I don't need to find the opposite sex irl.
And the characters that he does make, I find them ugly as hell, and he likes that, I don't like that. He dislikes the good looking guys I make, to him it is very uninteresting to play such characters.
For me male chars just look cooler in my eyes. I do play females, and I like them also, but my male is still the best <3.
And yes it is a social game, doesn't matter which race or gender I play, I love to play with others.
There are way too many people in this thread who are worried about someone playing an opposite gender. What does it matter? What avatar you choose in a game world has absolutely no bearing on who you are outside of the game. It's the same idiotic line of thinking that leads to people thinking lalafels are pedophiles. It's stupid and illogical. Do no guys play Ms. Pac Man? Tomb Raider? Metroid? If they do play them are they only doing so to think of sex? Seriously, there's porn for that and it's easily found for free on the internet. Just....grow up!
because social game = dating game ? yeah riiiiiiiight :P
Look, it boils down basically to finding out one of two ways... ask or wait and see. The thing you should take away from all this is that you are only in control of YOUR actions, not others and how they choose to play the game. If you flirt with someone, you run the risk of the character's rl player being a gender you would prefer not to flirt with. *shrugs* At that point, it behooves you to just let it go, say something nice, and move along. You could always just not flirt in the first place and not run the risk of making ANYONE uncomfortable. ^^
Hmmm I just refer to people based of their name or their character(once I meet them) until I'm informed otherwise. But my behaviour doesn't change towards them one way or another. As for the running and jumping alot vs standing still... really depends on the person.
it's all depend if you play your rôle as the character or playing with the character. depending of one of thoses two, playing a male or female have differents meaning.
i tend to play "with" my char, so it doesn't matter if i choose a female or male, the fact is, it's all depend to animations/textures/interaction/attraction. The char is NOT me, so i dont identify myself to it, with that in mind playing a Woman as i am a Man IRL is no big deal, i don't see the problem there (and animation from women are often really great, plus they dont wear XXXXXL size Shoulders...).
If you play your char, as you identify yourself with it, i can understand that you dont want to be a Real Man playing a Woman character (some do tho...).
In the end, i never try to know who is the person i'm playing with, as long as i can play with them, i'm not looking for a partner (despit that i'm single) and i think everyone should not care of who's behind the character unless they're willing to share this information.
If i can give only one advice: Open Mind !
I love how every thread regarding character race/gender choices boils down to people taking shots at everyone else's sexual preferences.
And on that point some of these replies have been such painfully obvious trollbait.
The desperation is too real
You make it sound as if men who play as women character are such a big threat…
To me this thread just seem to be about men afraid of flirting with 'fake' females and afraid that doing this would suddenly change their sexuality or how people see them. /shudders
Please do stay away from any female character because you seem like the exact creepy reason why some women players have to roll a male character to enjoy their game. Other players are not here to be appealing to you. People will roll the gender that they want and no amount of disrespect from you to them will ever change that.
It's 2015, get real, there is no 'normal'.
Don't think voice chat will save you. I know a guy that wanted to edate a girl (flirt and give her a bunch of in items/money), but he insisted on verifying her gender first. She didn't have a microphone, but they both lived in Australia, so she agreed to call him. They had a chat and everything checked out, so commence desperation.
After "she" was satisfied with all she milked him for, the person revealed they were actually a guy and had his sister chat on the phone to make it seem real. Laughed, dumped the guy, and that was the end of it. The guy who got duped then went around as a female character acting lewd to scam other desperate guys out of items.. So.. He was no better.
To those saying it does matter: do you want to know who's really a girl so you can be "nicer"? IMO, that makes you a terrible person. I don't go cruising MMOs for relationships. If it happens, okay, but gender doesn't matter for friendship - personality does.
Gender is unimportant in this game. It's not a dating service or a hookup site. I don't care whether people think I'm a man or a woman - ANY conclusion they jump to puts them at a disadvantage, as it means they'll assume stereotypes that probably aren't true. My character is a woman, but not even that really matters all that much since my character isn't looking for a hookup either.
The safest thing to assume about another person online is that they are a human being. This will almost certainly be true, and will prevent you from jumping to any of a number of dangerous conclusions.
If you consider in-game marriage to be intimate enough that you actually care about the gender of the person who's controlling the character that your character is marrying, I recommend you get to know the person behind the character well over a period of several weeks before tying the knot. Voice chat with them frequently to reduce the chance that they'll use a stand-in to try to fool you.
I have known people who HAVE successfully formed a relationship with folks they met in an online game, but these results are not typical and should not be expected. If you approach an MMO and its marriage system as a means to pick up chicks, you're setting yourself up for abuse and disappointment! Of course, this might not matter to you - people play the lottery, after all. People do win the lottery; it could be ME! People find their dream girl in an MMO; it could be ME! Nevertheless, you have been warned!
My two cents.
I will never understand why a man will want to play as a female in a MMO. I've heard the "I want my own eye candy" argument about a million times. But yeah... I still don't get it. You guys stick out like a sore thumb. So you might as well play as men.
Any female MMO gamer that announces that they are indeed a female might as well scream "please cyber me." That is how 99% of the MMO population interprets that sort of behavior. If you don't like that then I'm sorry but it's the truth. Enjoy the attention or keep your business to yourself.
The homosexual male population in this game is just mind blowing. Is it actually rated as the LBGT friendly MMO in some popular magazine or something? This is the only MMO I know where women have less of a chance of getting hit on when actually playing a female toon.
G.I.R.L. - Guy In Real Life
The only way to identify a girl is by pics with timestamp.
Well I prefer the person I'm marrying in game to be female, because It would just feel awkward if I knew the person was a bloke. With that said, I got married last Friday. I already knew the person was married rl, so it's not like I was trying to hook up or anything.
I will never understand why people think there's something abnormal about what toon someone chooses to play. And by about the same amount, I will never understand why people feel like they have to explain their toon choices. I'm a guy. I typically play guy characters. I have girl characters too though. Usually because I like the way that they look in certain armor, rarely in a sexual way. I also will never understand why so many people take issue with men playing female characters but don't bat an eye at a woman playing a male character. I think all of you put way too much stock in video games and need to scale things back a step or two.
I think using the word "toon" is much more abnormal than playing a character of the opposite gender.
