Big Fish and you: What bait is needed when to land the big one

Base is 339 gathering 280 perception. But mostly I am using tomato pies so that makes it 358/288.

Navigator's Brand - based on 117 catches bites only between 9-13 (http://ff14angler.com/fish/216)

I'm going by all the baits and times in the charts. Here is additional info.

Jacques the Snipper was caught in the daytime in rainy weather.

High Perch was caught in Fair weather.

Judgeray in rainy weather.

Beguiler Chub in Fair weather.

I seem to get better results using perception food instead of gathering food.

Oh and, what are you guys doing with all those fish?

The only thing is have caught outside of the parameters on the op is the High Perch in Cloudy Weather.

Blue Widow was caught in the rain, but I didn't try other conditions.

Hi i got a few on floating minnows nice weather daytime, 310 was not enough, went back at 345 and got them.

I've tried to catch the Slime King with base Gathering 342 / Perception 283 -boosted with Tomato Pie (15/6) - so 357 / 289 in total - but I got "Fish gets away..." message 3 or 4 times (the weather and bait was OK). Slimy bastard! I think I'll make a stack of Spinach Quiche (this is now the best Gathering food) and use it while fishing.

Right now the max gathering you can get is:
- from gear - 348
- from company action (Live off the Land II) - 10
- from food (Spinach Quiche HQ) - 24

Max pimped boosted gathering as of 2.2: 382

And perception:
- from gear - 289
- from company action (What You See II) - 10
- from food (Landtrap Salad HQ) - 19

Just on the Faerie Queen. I think that was a mistake to put streamer as the bait. The picture from the Japanese source is actually a spinnerbait. I tried Streamer for a while and got nothing then used Spinnerbait a different day and got 5 bites. But even with 345 gather and 296 perception (that includes a buff from stuffed artichoke) I lost every one of them. So I don't think it can be a fluke. Didn't have any tomato pies left at the time plus I kept at it to see if it was just bad luck.

Nice stats Huckster. Have you gone to such lengths?

I've caught 27/37 now with just the max stats you can get from the gathering accessories (only 339/280) and tomato pies or stuffed artichokes. No guild buffs sadly. I don't know if I will be pleased if I have to increase this. I already feel like I am spending too much money. Then again, what else is money for in the game.

I've only got maybe a couple misses from having 366 gathering but it still happens. Usually I'll catch the big fish on the first or second try. I've caught ZERO high-qualities of any of these fish.

I've caught quite a few of them- Gigantshark, Zalera, Sabertooth Cod, Bloody Brewer - all HQs.

I'm curious, what are the sizes of these things? Looking at how massive the Silver Sovereigns are (HQ Sovereign is as big as decent sized NQ Titanic Sawfish), I am guessing the world record sizes from before 2.2 are going to be completely obsolete now? I missed the boat on actually being a part of catching all these new fish while they were new (damn school), but I hope to be part of the wave of even more dedicated fishers who seek the biggest of the big fish.

For reference, here are (as far as I know), the largest fish people have caught:

Coastlines: Shall Shell 82.1
Deep Sea: Titanic Sawfish 191.6
Rivers: Morinabaligi 88.8
Lakes: Pirarucu 104.0
Dunefishing: Caravan Eel 86.5

Only the Silver Sovereign is taking up a spot in my records. So I don't think the records will become obsolete. My Silver Sovereign was not as big as that Titanic Sawfish on record either. Maybe others are having different luck.

I imagine once people start getting HQ versions of these that will change. That's where the real record breakers are at. I have afeeling something like the Gigantshark will be pretty huge.

Based on a real time fishing of people - the database populates automatically via a special app (FF14AnglerRep) which runs in the background, monitors your log file and updates the WWW with the fishing data (bait, time, size).

The biggest one to date is still Titanic Sawfish with 169 of them caught - the biggest one is 196.2.

Only the Silver Sovereign can barely match the size of Titanic Sawfish - with 6868 caught the biggest being 174.3.

Gigantshark - not that big - max is 123.9 ilms.

But what you can also learn from there is that Titanic Sawfish can be caught only between 9 and 14.

I love how the translator changes the Carp Diem fish into Nasty Beech.

Sabretooth Cod was caught with the Rat Tail bait in the evening/night.

Oschon's Print was caught at night during clear weather.

High Perch - Sinking Minnow - 5:18 - Rain (also caught in Cloudy and Wind)
Old Softie - Bloodworm - 17:30 - Cloudy (also caught in Dust storm)
Ghost Carp - Bloodworm - 22:10 - Rain (22:00-1:00)

Ghost Carp. I finally caught my ghost carp at 2:35 am (outside the jp parameters) I think you need it to be raining to get a bite.

caught mine at 2:04 am in rainy weather. i received 2 fish got away messages at 348 gathering, finally got it on the 3rd attempt at 353 gathering. was my last and by far most annoying fish due to the small time-slot and weather requirement along with marrow sucker (took 5 rainy eorzean nights) and octomammoth(took 6-7 eorzean days mainly because i kept HQ'ing those horrible finger shrimps and lominsan anchovies XD). glad to be done with this.

Those are my last fish to get too. Yeah, I went through a couple eorzean days not getting a single moochable fish for the Octomammoth. And waiting for it to rain in the desert is getting annoying. Grats on getting it done you guys.

After all the login complications I caught it within 5 minutes. Finishing my log and beating that Japanese record on FF14angler. XD This fish gave me so many problems I don't even want to remember it plus the weather.. ugh.
