Nuclear power. That whole "one mistake and people can't live within 50 miles for a long time" thing makes people uncomfortable when you say "oops."

Have you read any of the changes with the Datacenters since launch? Instance servers have pre-assigned worlds. They are located in those pre-assigned worlds Datacenter (NA/EU and JP). They went even further to separate login congestion and gave the groups in each datacenter names:

Notice the groups are not mixed by physical location of the datacenters but grouped by physical location.
So again how does the PS4 beta which is located on the Japanese Datacenter effect the NA/EU Datacenter when each physical Datacenter has its own World Servers and Instance Servers.
this would prob be answered if i toke the time to look , i am fairly new/returned back to game but is there no public test server that players can go into and test the patch's before they go live? that way square could find and squish the bugs before they come to the live server hence less maint and less whining , one other thing that drives me nuts is when a mmo company does these emergancy maint they never tell you whats wrong or what there fixing till after its over ,there has to be at least one poor sod in the office not doing anything that could be on there forums saying hey this broke and were trying to fix it.
Some of you need to let us complain in peace please.
If you don't care about this 5 hours long maintenance then fine, go do something else.
They can't do a proper update without adding more bugs. This one might even add some more...
I'm sure lots of people have an exemple to demonstrate how this game is poorly coded.
Lots of content have recurring bugs and they couldn't care less.
If things had been done properly by competent people from the beginning, we wouldn't need that much maintenance.
If this game wasn't a Final fantasy, I would have been long gone.
:/ Well that sucks. I wasn't expecting yet another maintenance when we JUST had one last night for roughly 2-3 hours (that was suppose to have fixed the issues). Now we're expected to be down around 5 hours? This is a bit frustrating. How's a guy suppose to play on his day off?
I enjoy the game but it's kind of hard to enjoy a game when you can't play it.
Sounds like there is a big difference between a gaming company and nuclear power. I'm pretty sure we are capable of understanding how irrelevant the life and death situation of nuclear power is to gaming, and I'm sure we have the ability to put that into the correct perspective.
Please stop being entitled this is only SE's first MMO after all, it's just beta phase 10 phase 20 will fix it.

Okay in my defense I'm super bored and had some kit kats. ☆*・゜゚・*\(^O^)/*・゜゚・*☆ KIT KATS.
Hey guys Spring Breaks start off next week. Be sure to prepare yourselves for more maintenance. ( •_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)
How will we know when it's back up? Just a case of keep trying to log in?
Then there is this. 10 hours is 10 hours. Overnight for some may not be overnight for others as Ecks here just stated. We understand the need for updates, patches, fixes, maintenance, etc. What people are complaining about is the frequency. 25 hours in 1 week is insane by any standard. Those of you arguing that it isn't baffle me.
Oh, I don't think the game has poor uptime. I'm rarely affected by maintenance, and even when I am, I find other things to do. My point is that it seems like SE devs have never played another MMO in history. They make mistakes that have been found, brainstormed, fixed, re-fixed, and finalized in other games. Their QA department seems to basically skim through new content, instead of actually reviewing it.
if you open the launcher at the bottom of it there is a lil pink or green world button and icon pink means offline green means good to go you ccan also click on it to see specific server status's or if you have a smart phone you can goto the play store or apple market and get a app for server status's
What is the app called?
Every maintenance window chosen will negatively impact somebody. Considering that it is the middle of the night in JST (2:20 AM, roughly), I am going to make the extreme logical leap and assume that this maintenance was done out of necessity (given the whole "emergency" bit in "emergency maintenance").
I used to work third shift myself. The usual maintenance window of MMOs fell right in my "I just got home" timeframe. But the companies that put out these games are not stupid - they are going to schedule them for the time that impacts the least amount of the playerbase and isn't also achingly inconvenient for the technicians who have to perform said maintenance. This maintenance, on the other hand, was unplanned and unscheduled, but obviously necessary.
They make mistakes made by other people that have nothing to do with them, on server infrastructure that is nothing like theirs, with entirely different design teams, design processes, QA teams, QA processes, and, actually, entire different cultures both nationally and corporate-level. I'm more amazed that they haven't messed up more things, which is probably a credit to what they dealt with in FFXI.
their i486DX2 second hand servers finally broke down?
Yeah I just start playing also a couple weeks ago, and the amount of downtime is pretty much assuring I dont subscribe to this game.
And to the people defending it saying blah blah blah game had issues at launch.
A. This isnt launch. Its 6 months after its re launch of an utter fail game launch.
B. Its ten years later, maybe upgrade your motorola pager SE?
C. Ive seen free games with better server performance.
Yeah except that 10 hours started at my 5 pm. I dont get much playtime and I just started this game, luckily the overwhelming lack of compassion for new players who have got nearly none of their free months playtime will likely save most of the new players from wasting time with a subscription to play a game that doesnt work half the time filled with unfriendly people.
The amount of "Whew!" that can be implied.
Final fantasy XI was their first MMO and it's still playable.
WoW killed tupac
I came to this game from GW2 which was a FREE to play MMO which had bug fixes and patches tested etc while the game was playing live... the players/customers were notified with 'a new build is available, please restart your game' files downloaded and your good to go. The technology exists, we can fix it, faster more efficiently and seamless..... Your point is valid imo Lancia, I love this game but the level of customer service and the downtime are my two major let downs as well not to mention the lack of compensation for said downtime. I thought it would be fixed after the initial release and over population/sold out copies 'this game is making way more money/sales then we expected' but after 6 months, I am starting to feel its going to remain a constant. I put up with it because I love this game but after having being spoiled with Guildwars2 FREE to play level of customer service and minimal downtime, its getting old.

go ahead scroll through the pages add them all up since the start... all 177 posts.. say only 90 of them are/were actual maintenances... that is about 3 maintenance a week..
yes the 20-30 people who quit the game are not just due to maintenance, its lack of economy, lack of content, dungeon lock outs and they are already skinning dunegeons before creating new zones and creating new dungeons... here slap a tag on it call it HM change a few tactics but all that its just a re-skinning... like FFXI and the re-skinning of all them zones. ... IF that is 25/week thats 100 members a month who just quit the game for what ever reason.... and that's is a number out of 500 players so say that 200 players per server per week quit that's 800 players leaving a month. thats a loss of 10,000 players per server a year... I am just saying Beta ended 6 months ago but a lot of people still feel like they are beta testing it and its frustrating and just move on. I am still here still building for the future, but its frustrating as heck to watch people dropping left and right not just from the free company but the game in general. Throw in the regular 90k Monday's the 2-3 x a week maintenances..
If 20 to 30 members are leaving your Free Company each week, there are most likely issues with your Free Company--not because they are tired with the frequency of maintenance, which is implied given the context of this post. I made my own Free Company a few weeks ago, having 7 members today, and people aren't leaving. =\
Anyway, the short notice of maintenance is pretty appalling. However, if it's to fix bugs or some kind of horrendous exploit discovered, I'm actually fine with that. I'm going to continue working on my promotional video for my Free Company, since I actually have other things to keep me productive, relating to FFXIV.
