Housing Ideas and Feature Requests

To tell truth at some point they will probably need to start replacing the current wards with one that contain no small plots and just have med and large as more and more FC start to upgrade. Or at least that's what I see happening since they did not just instance each FC house plot.

In the current wards for Lavender Beds, there's bridges off to the east side of the map that lead to shut doors. I'd like to believe that before they implement more wards, they'll expand the current wards and add an equal amount of space to the other side of those bridges. And do something similar for The Goblet and Mist. I don't know about Mist, but I know in The Goblet as well there's a tunnel that you can't get through because of fallen rocks in the path.

I'm fairly certain that's to be a separate area for personal housing. Given that the current wards for just a few FC's cause enough server stress to be a concern I think it's safe to say the personal housing will actually be entirely instanced. I'm pretty sure those gates will be used to access personal housing similarly to how it worked in FFXI.

Those were my thoughts as well. I also think that those paths/bridges and gates will lead to the future personal house or housing zone.

It's funny that no one bought the house when first release..and many FC don't care about it.
But when housing wards are are full, people start complaining why there are too few wards lol.

It's a auction game, first-in first-serve. But to tell the truth, after got a house and play with it for 2-3 weeks.
I'm totally lost interest in it and super lazy to go back to my house. Because it don't have anything to do.
Let's hope 2.2 will bring more things to do for housing area.

There will be more things to do in the housing areas later on. Like the build your own airship bit as to why smalls are getting a basement. There is also the chocobo thing that got mentioned. The FC retainer/lemonade stand. Um, I think there will also be a garden? Can't remember at the moment.

Pretty much. I don't see any way that they'll line up that many houses for individual players. Especially when you can have multiple toons on the same server.

Yes, absolutely this! All the adventurer guilds have plates and cups on their tables.

I'd also really love to see more "flavor" decorations. Maybe some storage crates and barrels for if/when they also give us kitchen-ish furnishing. (Look the Bismark's a fair ride away from our house. Where's the stove, man?) There's a lot of object models in the game already that would be great to have for placement in homes.

I have seen it mentioned several times and I think it would be the best feature SE could add to the fc house. Would be the ability to have a fc vendor/retainer who would sell goods at your house and or manage extra section of fc inventory. The reason for this is my company and I know others have a bar set up in there house for rp purposes. However to have a player stand there the whole time and sell drinks to and food to anyone who comes in is not fun. Since players can already hire retainers it should not be unreasonable for a free company to hire one or two as well.

Hi guys - I think that after spending that insane amounts of gil on the plot / house / furniture we should get some real game benefits.

Not talking about e-peen in-house and "look-we've-got-this-cool-unique-ornament" benefits.

I'm talking about stuff like:
- when you build a house and you log-off in it - after you get back you get a special buff (HP/MP/dps/healing up)
- the buff depends on total "quality" of the equipment you can put inside the house (like achievement system)
- when you synth in-house you get the boost to control/quality
- you can boost your spells affinity if you put specified equipment (elements - fire/water/earth/wind - like in ff11) - thus increasing your spell damage
- using a bathtub /shower / fountain gives exp (1exp per tick)
- you can create special "melding stations" for your guild members to meld materia

What do you think?

I think any benefits tied to an FC should require FCs to work as a group to earn. I also really don't want our furniture choices to be reduced to BiS.

A few suggestions after spending a solid week almost entirely in the FC's new house:

• Large houses need 250 or 300 items, 200 is too few.
• Make partitions solid so players can't run through them by pushing.
• Add two more partition types: one with a doorway and one half-width.
• Add a jukebox or music box that lets you customize the music track played in your house for both day and night.
• Give beds an interaction like the inn bed that lets you log out more naturally.
• Give wardrobes the same function as the armoire in the inn.
• Add new items to replicate the functions of other furniture pieces, such as a book to view cutscenes, a summoning bell, and a market board.
• Allow some furniture to be placed on other furniture. A moogle doll on the couch, for example.
• Add more options for flooring and ceiling fans.

More to follow

Now for a few less realistic suggestions. I don't hold out much hope for these, but thanks for reading!

• Allow items to be grouped so you can move them around as a set without having to reposition everything individually.
• Some items would really benefit from being scalable, like partitions or rugs. It would be awesome to fill any size gap with a single partition and always have it look right.
• Add exits for the balcony and the roof, and allow furniture to be placed on both. Beer garden on the roof!

I realize some of my suggestions are redundant with what others have posted, but I wanted to also show my support for those ideas.

I'll have to say no to this after some personal trolling experience...I had a FC enclose their entrance with walls before the patch. Causing everyone to enter to be stuck in a small cubicle. Even the entrance was blocked off. Yes, I can teleport out but I didn't want to waste gil and run all the way back. Luckily they released me after a few long minutes.

Anyway, other ideas that I personally want to see.

• Displays that suit each craft. (example: bsm - barrels with weapons, arm - mannequins,...)
• Furniture related to the craft (ex: forge, grindstone,...)

Those are all overpowered and some in extremely ridiculous ways. No way they'll allow you to idle in a bathtub and come back to a character at level 50. Also tying a buff to furniture like FFXI will kinda suck. They weren't all that good to begin with and a group buff shouldn't be tied to what your house looks like.

Make the sorting of the furniture list better.
Decorating as a PS3 user is kinda hellish, with the list not sorting the furniture properly. Either make the sorting by floor, or make it so that there are more tabs, like a tab for only chairs, one for partitions and one for cupboards/cabinets.

Some sort of advanced Training Dummie would be an interesting housing addition; that you can adjust to attack or defend and even customize its stats/level. I'd probably buy a house just for something like this.

Could we have a way to toggle lit/unlit settings on the outdoor fire-pit, with always-on, always-off and unlit-during-day/lit-during-night settings? We'd really love to have ours unlit during the day and alight at night, to make it fit better with Limsa's tropical climate.

Personally I would like to see a change to how houses are constructed.

Right now you buy a plot of land, and then have to fork over another 450k to "build" your house instantly.

Thing is though, I would much rather "build" my house myself. (it's a guy thing maybe, but I would take incredible satisfaction in living in something I built myself)
I have all crafters at 50 and have miner and botanist at 50. I'd much rather do something like gather materials, craft them into building materials, and then build my house with them.
Examples:

• Carpenter: make lumber and build scaffolding and parts of housing walls
• Alchemist: make glass for windows
• Smiths: make nails, hinges, metal reinforcements

Now of course it's hard to match everything with every craft. For example I have no idea where I would match the typical "masonry" for stone houses.

The construction itself could be done through interaction points on the house in construction which then bring up the crafting interface. Construction would have difficulty and progess could even fail.

A system as this would also allow for comissioning other crafters to work on your house if you don't have that particular craft yourself. Or fork over a sum of money to an NPC to advance a building phase for you. (to keep the "gilsink" aspect of housing)

It also allows for materials from all levels of crafting to be used, allowing even low level crafters to make money. HQ items would make construction advance quicker.

To prevent the AH from being drained of materials too fast you could limit the amount of building progess per day.

Hm, well how about we add maintenance to houses? That would create the same gilsink / materialsink you have on gear.

In fact that would give some additional merit to using HQ materials on construction: you could make it so they loose durability at a slower pace.

Heck taking that further you could even add a "renovation" feature where you could swap one material for another after the house is built.

General Stuff
- What? No carpet floor options? :(
- Can't put tabletop stuff on FC desks. Should fix that.
- Flower patches on the lawn

Walls, Windows and Partitions
- The ability to put down walls is alright, sure, but I feel it needs work. What about the option to wall off the stairwell area on the outer railing? If we could do this it would make having a sensible layout of rooms downstairs much easier.
- The Astroscope belongs outside - alternatively, allow for larger windows. Right now, the Astroscope (unless shoved into the window, "breaking" it) looks at the wall rather than outside, and it looks silly.
- Allow us to hang wall-mounted stuff on the partition walls. This is a pretty big thing for me, because I like partitions.
- More paintings. Should be easy enough?
- Large versions of the Company Crests should be able to be hung up. Galka-shield-sized.

Interactivity = Yay!
- Need more variety of furnishing items. Chair/Couch/Table/Dresser/Desk/Bookshelf/Fireplace/Bath, got it. Perhaps some "play" areas, such as a jukebox/pinball machine/disco ball/musical instruments/kitchen areas (perhaps suited to outodoors)/alternative storage/corner desks.
- Minions of anyone present within a building should roam the outdoor area interacting with each other randomly. Perhaps have a 'minion pen' furnishing item?

Something that I am surprised to have not seen(although I only read half the thread before popping to this xD), is a scaling feature.

In Everquest 2, when you place furniture you have the option to scale the size up and down accordingly..afterall, why have normal human-sized chairs for gnomes, or in our case Lalafell's, when they could have chairs that are just the right size~?
Would this be a possible feature, or would it end up being too much work in terms of modeling or something along those lines?

There is a "Return to Entrance" option, I think in the social menu, that you can use to teleport to a house's front gate if you are inside one and doesn't cost anything.

The pushing through furniture thing is pointless because that option has always been there, it's just placed in a crappy menu spot.

I really hope to increase the Furniture Limit. Its far to less. Maybe 50 more for every Size.

Main wish list.

• More furnishing spaces for all houses.
• More furnishing that can be dyed.
• Let one of the Aethernet crystals within the ward give you the option to go back to town.
• Let us remove Primal type furnishing without them being destroyed.
• A built in furniture only storage system (Loft space?). That can keep the above items when not in use.

Some fun extra ideas.

• More NPC's wandering about.
• A Jukebox Furnishing with collectible music (Would need to craft a "sound recording item" then complete the dungeon / trial with the music you want to collect, then meld the recording item to the Jukebox to be able to play it)
• Seasonal quests which would be completed within the housing wards - with the reward being some furnishing items from that seasonal event.
• Periodical Best house competitions, judged by SE (similar to how screenshot competitions are done). With different categories, ie Best small sized house, Best garden, Best interior design, Most creative layout (for maze houses). Pride of "GC" Award (themed to the GC colours). So all different types of house have a shot at winning.
  Prizes would be a replacement for the dull wooden placard at the front of your house, with an extra section in your Estate profile with what awards you have won.

After patch 2.3 we plan on adding armoires as a furnishing you can place in your house. After using your interior decorating skills to put it in just the right spot, you can utilize it the same as the armoire in inns.

Patch schedule is supposed to be every three months, so ETA would be summer 2014. Also, yay, musical instruments!

If you're in a small house, you will once 2.2 comes out and we get our doubled space + basement!!! :D :D :D

I think houses would be good for hosting player-ran events but there needs to be some features specific to facilitate this:

1. Enable PVP inside a house, so we can host our own PVP tournaments.

2. Ability to kick / block a specific person from entering a house while still allowing general public to walk in.

3. Designate certain rooms as invite only (so we can have entrance fees to attend certain events).

I'd love to get something like an Anvil, a smelter, a heat treatment oven. All stuff used in metal craft since our FC will be used for Role Playing a Metal Forge shop.

I really want to see a stationary set be added to the game, or at least just general papers we can stick on a desk (since we already have an inkwell and quill); scrolls, important-looking papers, letters, maybe a map, things like that would be really cool looking.

What I'd REALLY love to see is books. Like, stray books. I'd love to place a journal on my future bedside table.
