Sohm Al on an alt doing WHM. WAR tank dies before first boss and comments of "I'll dial it back" and "that bit is always rough". Yea, it is when you pull wall2wall and don't use ANY mitigations! Was watching his health bar like a hawk and I saw Rampart used once, during the whole dungeon. Nothing else. Like, what are you doing???

And then, straight after, Bismarck. Co-healer WHM. Literally no offensive actions taken. Even when jumping on his back, just... nothing.

Le sigh

I'm still trying to comprehend this.

Got out of a Troia run a few days ago on my SMN since I'm rusty and wanted to try to shake the rust off. Friend decides to go SCH for expert and we get Troia. Tank is WAR and my co-dps is SMN.

Things were taking forever to die despite my aoe'ing like mad. Turned out my co-dps was not only at the bottom of the threat pool, but they were barely aoe'ing in w2w trash pulls. They barely used Bahamut and other summons, which hurt to watch. The war made a passing comment about how 'there was too much arcanist', which I didn't realize then as someone not doing their job. It wasn't until my friend spoke up about how stuff was dying slowly that I realized the tank was subtly talking about the other smn acting like an arcanist.

Said friend was asking me too as to why the holy heck the other smn was constantly 4th in aggro on every single pull. And last boss they never went into Phoenix. But strangely enough they would use Searing Light whenever it was off cooldown and trying to overwrite mine.

Why...why would you not aoe in a 90 dungeon? Why would you not want stuff to die before we run out of resources? Why don't you like lots of big numbers? Big numbers as dps is gud for dps brain. It make unga-bunga REAL unga-bunga!

Sounds to me like you might have encountered a bot. They've been infiltrating the roulette a lot more than normal as of late, and it really does show in the increased number of stories like this one.

Because the amount of tanks that I see wall-pulling only to ever only use stuff like Heart of Corundum and almost nothing else is apalling. Special shoutout to the special breed of tanks that does this, and then saves stuff like Vengeance/Sentinel/Shadow Wall/Nebula for boss auto attacks.

The most damage is dealt at the start of pulls, because that's when stuff is still alive and kicking. That's the most important part to mitigate. Most tanks forego this and think that they can get by with the minimum mitigation or just random stuff like a single Aurora. Or worse, the tanks that splurge ALL of their mitigation all at once and then have nothing for when the timers run out.

W2W pulls taught me the importance of using mitigation properly, including invuls.
I'm surprised that there are tanks at higher levels wall-to-wall pulling without mitigation.

Perhaps. I do heard Heart of Corundum & Aurora being used plenty of times. I do heard -a lot- of Medica II casts and a couple of Cure IIs. It could be the GNB stepped onto a couple of AoEs unnnoticed? Maybe, but Idk. It's probably if GNB actually used their cooldowns but reacting poorly to the environments. It could be the WHM was spamming Cure IIs or Medica IIs too dependably, but I could be wrong. Because as a tank, I've survived plenty of times myself even when my healer was as bad as the Cure I bots.

I have the vaguest memory of what exactly happened for this particular occasion. One of the reason I do not add too much details into the story. They could've done it better by not being passive aggressive, sadly.

The only reason to even use Vengeance on trash is for the extra DPS it gives you, which I'll grant is all the reason you could ever need. Beyond that, the cooldown on Bloodwhetting is short enough that you can afford to sit there and take it straight to the face without the healer ever needing to spare you a glance.

On the topic of GNB... I just healed a GNB who only used two cooldowns aka Aurora and HoC, as a WHM. Entire dungeon: The Dead Ends. It also doesn't help the RPR in the party was constantly on 4th in enmity order, but at least that made the run sliiightly interesting.

friend asked why they weren't using summons, got told
"You're not my supervisor!"
ONE of them used Bahamut twice after that

I did this once on a 40ish dungeon because I got fed up with the tank.
He would pull a pack or 2 and stop for like 3-4 seconds to AoE then rush off to pull more.
every time I would try and get FireII off it would fail because he would sprint away.
Now I got to chase him, catch up and get in range, start casting only to fail because he yoinked them out of range again.

Fine, rush boy. Ice Mage it is.

However, I realized that I was being petty and actually punishing the other 2 because I'm mad. so id switch back to fire but only once I've determined that the tank is really, really, totally going to stop moving.

Must have just been a bad day, usually im okay with things like that and ill adjust.
But that run.. IDK why that tank just irked me so much.

I'm glad I did Variant 12 on my own. People like to botch that last puzzle.

Said pld also ate mechanics on second and last bosses too. While it was nice walking out of there with two pieces of candy, I sometimes wonder about people who do the start and stop pulling and what their reasoning behind it is.

That reminds me of the time I had a tank do something similar. Would stop and go at random times even if the next area is locked off till all mobs are down. They would run out of my Sacred Soil so I would make the point of Rescuing them right back into it. They didn't like it...and I couldn't have cared less.

I had a tank (maybe pld) doing that kind of stuff to me the other day in Stigmascape. Slow on the first pull, botched the 2nd and had us chase down the last mob as they ran for the door. Further along, they ran out of my soil... I don't know what's going on with some of these people.

Someone told me recently that the pillars always fall in such a way that if you just stand anywhere along the outer edge of the room you will never get hit by them. I can't verify if this is 100% true every time but after a few more runs it appeared to be the case. Never realized this before!

Absolutely a possibility. I've been in there leveling melee DPS alts recently, and moving away from the boss early to avoid the pillars feels bad.

Sounds like me on my Dancer during the last boss in Malikah's Well. Too much staring at my buttons/interface + not enough watching for AoEs = DEATH.

A thing I've learnt when I eat the floor as a tank: it's useless to AoE even if you have your stance up when you are resurrected - it's clunky but more fruitful to use your ranged threat generator/taunt. It's probably because you do two-thirds/half your damage because of resurrect sickness, thus fail to pull threat off a DD/healer.

It's not a world of darkness run if your co-healer isn't disconnected while everyone in the party is eating avoidable damage at every turn and your tank who keeps fighting a provoke war with the other alliance's tank isn't using mitigations and ends up getting smacked hard constantly.

Also people got really upset because I held onto the chains until the last minute, which is beneficial? Sorry to give people a heart attack but that's like 30 seconds where I don't have to deal with anything since once you put the chains on he starts running around. This is how it's usually done.

To be fair, WoD didn't bother to actually use the really good stuff for their chains and it makes them very unreliable, so much so that if you drop them, they're like trying to find silver sequins on a 70's shag carpet.

People tend to get mad about it because a lot of the people who try to hold the chains keep it too long, letting it expire, and then he gets back up and goes berserk before anyone can grab the chain again. Attaching them right away is generally the safer course, especially since power creep means he's usually at less than ten percent health by then anyway.

Oh that much is true. Still, use Vengeance for mob pulls, it helps killing stuff faster.

Not always. I've found it's a fairly decent 75% chance that they'll fall toward the center. The other 25% they'll fall toward another edge close to where it landed. Best advice I can give about that is stand next to a pillar and look at its shadow. When it starts falling, you can see where it's going and you can move from there. If you don't, well, most likely you weren't either paying attention or your ping sucks.

I've only had a handful of instances on that fight where the pillars will criss-cross literally at the boss' gate on the north side of the arena while I would be tanking in that spot, move, and not get hit by it. That fight I bore witness to seeing the sprout reaper go squish after the three pillars, I saw a second set that did that at the north exit.

Maybe it's entirely RNG on the boss' ring, who knows.

My fave sight was looking at Alphinaud gets squished by all 3 falling stalactites for whatever reason in one of my trust runs back in ShB. I thought game AI would force them to cancel any spellcast to react to mechanic but not that one particular time.

Today I met a tank on Gubal Library Hard who kept moving all the time. Never stopped, like he was playing Dancer. He pulled enemies into those small round rooms and moved from one side to another and the enemies naturally following him. He also kept going in circles spinning around the enemies too.

I was playing Ninja and naturally I was missing my directionals, DOTs and even AOEs when trying to help with the mobs. I had to refresh huton with mudras when he pulled them away.

And he did this even when there was no need, no mechanics or enemy attacks.

At the final boss when he kept doing this and after we had lost, I said "could you stay put when there's no need to move". He got upset and said he is gonna stay put then, try to keep up.

And he didn't move. He pissed off our healer by standing in the attacks. Healer asked what he was doing to which he replied "our Ninja wants to do AOEs". And finally he didn't get behind a boulder when meteor fell. He knew to get behind one on the first failed try.

Healer quit. I asked the tank if he lost on purpose. He said "I did what you asked".

I wish people weren't so defensive. Started a dungeon, tank didn't have stance on by first pull. I asked for them to put it on and they did immediately before putting out 4+ lines of text saying how they had no idea what I was talking about, how I must have been trolling and so on.

Please, calm down. All I asked was that you put your stance on. You did. Move on. Rest of the dungeon went smoothly but it really irritated me.

And before anyone that asks, all I typed was "stance" and "ty". I'm not one of those people with text macros and sound pings.

How very productive, mature and not at all petty of him.

Feeling a bit frustrated after an attempted POTD run, and I can't tell if it's me being a bit of a grouch because of some IRL problems I've been having or if there's cause to be upset.

I joined a PF that basically said it was a run up to 200 (or close as possible.) I join, we enter... and the two recruiting are hovering somewhere just under 50. I felt a bit irritated, because I generally assume most runs would be done over 80 at least or pretty damn close to, but I thought maybe I was being miserable and decided to help them out blitzing the mobs and grabbing silver chests for them, hoping post-100 would be some fun. They were also using it as a levelling opportunity, which didn't bother me, but I was using my level 90 DPS for the ress and wasn't getting much benefit from any of this.

Pre 90 - 100, one of them announces they have a headache and have to go after 100, meaning I've pretty much just wasted a chunk of time. A little annoyed, but guessing it can't be helped, I say there's no point going on then. They then get sad because they "wanted to see 100", and when I offer there's no meaning in me doing this there's this awkward silence where they're probably hoping I'll go along with it anyway. I don't, and leave.

I guess people more patient than me might have stayed, but I really couldn't help but feel taken advantage of there. Was I too miserly?

It's hard to say honestly. From what you tell us, they definitely diverged a bit between what they were announcing and what they were planning to do. You probably could have been more patient, but we all have our moments of fatigue. Don't beat yourself up too much about it (and besides, it's not like you've been spreading insults around).

Anyway; I'm back here to yell at people again who don't read the chat and/or don't bother to reply. Tam Tara's Hypogeum (brutal), two sprouts, the healer and me who were supposed to know the instance. Wipe on the first boss. I explain. Nobody answers, wipe again. On the way back, I write the strat again, this time stopping and refusing to keep moving until someone gives me a sign that they've read it right. The healer (... So, I remind you, someone who had to know the instance) finally responded five minutes later.

"Sorry, I was talking with my guild lol".

I... When everything is going well, I don't care if you're watching a show, or chatting on the side. But when you see that the group is going badly, maybe it's time to turn on the brain and focus on the instance? So that you don't hold up the people who are playing with you indefinitely? What is this way of considering the people you are playing with as vulgar bot, just good to make the instance pop but certainly not to take a single second of your attention?

Second boss, same story, two wipes. Except that this time, I realize that the sprouts are reading. They read, but they don't answer. Shyness, clumsiness with the game tools, I don't know. But for God's sake, at least let them know you've read and recorded. "Ok" would have been enough, and would have proved that I wasn't talking in the wind to explain an instance I've done hundreds of times... And explained almost as many times.

The dungeon was very long. Like Lunaxia, I don't know if I'm overreacting, but ignoring the instance chat is one of those "little" things that exasperate me very quickly. Being on a game doesn't exempt anyone from being polite: you do an instance with people, you give them the time they need; if you want to talk with your guild, you do a dungeon with your guild; and if someone does you a favor by explaining something, you thank them.

I managed to get a group that made it to 200 after two groups that didn't go past 100 (failed to reconvene later + disconnect). It's a gamble.

Simply because they lied in the PF, wanted to use me as easy carry and would have wasted my time.

Got to witness at least 5 people getting eaten in p5N healers included, it was absolutely hilarious but bless the summoner that avoided it and saved the run

I had an...interesting experience as I was pulling my White Mage through Stormblood's dungeons. Nothing on the tank that did this because I'm pretty sure this was one of those anomalies that proves what two players in the same instance see are not perfectly synchronous (due to the server not being able to keep up so most people see each as other as much as 1 or 2 seconds behind each other)

Anywho, we're on the second half of the first pull. (following the colossus that leads to that gunship before the first boss. Tank's doing great and we're both in sprint and keep up. We corral and aoe everything. It takes longer than usual so I find most of my resources are going out, lilies, tetra, and divine benison still needs another 10 seconds. I think I used two Cure IIs too. the gunship and two other mobs are left and the DRK tank is nearly dead and my finger is hovering above my bene. He has less than 1k hp left so I fire the benny because he never used living dead....he still doesn't so I stop to catch my breath a bit....

Then I see the living dead icon more than 2 seconds after I had reset his HP bar. I kind of laughed at the whole thing. I didn't talk about it or mention it to him. it was just a funny but awkward experience.

Perhaps after he was nearly dead, he was scrambling for his LD icon and after he clicked it, he never realized I bened him. Who knows. xD

Anywho, that was the highlight of last night for me. I got my healers to 70 now and it was a fun trip. Healing's much more intense than I expected (and my healxiety is cured. Healing's not exactly my first choice for a role but I'm not stranger to it anymore.) and tales of the Bardem Mettle pulls are no joke at all, even as White Mage. I'm ready to farm Orbonne for the mystic set. I wanna glam my White Mage in it. (and also do everyone in alliance roulette a few favors. :P)

This has probably been done before, but I just got done popping sprint on someone in Dead Ends, so I had to make my own.

Luckily I'm using either a tank or healer on that one. As the healer I'll rescue them to me last second but as a tank I'm like "alright...I can take that hit...can you?"

But I do have another funny story from last night. The group was actually great. The followed instructions to the letter. The fault was with me only giving partial instructions. You'll see what I mean.

So I forget the dungeon name but it's the one where you fight The Kraken on the four islands. We are doing the run and things are smooth. People were unfamilar/1st timers so I told them I remembered this one and will give heads up on bosses. We get to the first boss and I tell them "Hey at one point he starts to roar which does a bit of damage that increases with each one. To get him to stop knock on the trees to knock down some bananas and he chills out a bit." That was my mistake...I didn't say how many. So he starts to roar and EVERYONE knocks down a banana but me cause I then saw how this was going and then they went to the other trees to get those too.

Yup...It was like it happened in slow motion but I was too slow to stop them. The Gorilla ate EVERYTHING. Good thing I was the healer and knew what was going to happen next. So now this beefed up Gorilla is just shaving 50% of the tanks health per punch so I'm Cure 2 and regen spamming and then he starts roaring again but no bananas shave respawned to get him to stop for a moment so I start Medica 2 followed by swiftcasting Medica 1 and keep alternating between those cause he is AoEing us super hard. Luckily the DPS puts him down and at the best time cause even with Lucid Dreaming on CD I was nearing out of MP. The rest of the run went smooth though. I laughed and told them I forgot to mention only ONE banana at a time cause he gets a damage boost.

Had my first field trip dungeon run as a lalafell. It was me and two other Lalafell and a female Roegyden tank. One Lalafell only spoke Japanese, while the other liked using the Toast emote with me. Twas a really fun experience. Especially since I ran into them twice, with both times having a female Roegyden tank. xD

For some reason I've been thrown in Babil for leveling roulette for the past 3 days. Not that I'm complaining since it's a decent dungeon to tank...I'm just hoping it doesn't go like Cutter's Cry for me(had it for a few weeks straight when leveling WAR a few years ago).

On one run I ended up having to use Living Dead on two separate pulls(just before first boss and just before last boss). No deaths, but slight lag and a distraction ended up with me getting a bit closer than I'm sure the healer wanted me to get.

But I do have another funny story from last night. The group was actually great. The followed instructions to the letter. The fault was with me only giving partial instructions. You'll see what I mean.

So I forget the dungeon name but it's the one where you fight The Kraken on the four islands. We are doing the run and things are smooth. People were unfamilar/1st timers so I told them I remembered this one and will give heads up on bosses. We get to the first boss and I tell them "Hey at one point he starts to roar which does a bit of damage that increases with each one. To get him to stop knock on the trees to knock down some bananas and he chills out a bit." That was my mistake...I didn't say how many. So he starts to roar and EVERYONE knocks down a banana but me cause I then saw how this was going and then they went to the other trees to get those too.

Yup...It was like it happened in slow motion but I was too slow to stop them. The Gorilla ate EVERYTHING. Good thing I was the healer and knew what was going to happen next. So now this beefed up Gorilla is just shaving 50% of the tanks health per punch so I'm Cure 2 and regen spamming and then he starts roaring again but no bananas shave respawned to get him to stop for a moment so I start Medica 2 followed by swiftcasting Medica 1 and keep alternating between those cause he is AoEing us super hard. Luckily the DPS puts him down and at the best time cause even with Lucid Dreaming on CD I was nearing out of MP. The rest of the run went smooth though. I laughed and told them I forgot to mention only ONE banana at a time cause he gets a damage boost.

Hullbreaker (normal). I barely get that, so I always forget things. I don't think I ever properly learned that.

Same over here. Although it's Tower of Zot. For 3 days straight. If I get the 4th tomorrow, maybe I should buy a lottery... lol.
