Unfortunately, they see experienced tanks pull that off and try to copy without realizing or caring how pull that off and not get themselves killed. Granted, it sounds more like they did that pull and didn't pop anything. I usually try to get a Steel Cyclone paired with Vengeance going because that pull hurts.

So... Weirdest Vote Kick I've seen in a while. Logged into my main after messing around on my alt all day. I decided to do a Doma Castle run because I want that music scroll so freaking bad. I pretty much instaque as AST and as soon as the screen clears and the barrier's down, I see someone start running for the first trash group. I can't follow because I'm animation locked, casting Protect. The SMN doesn't bother to come back and the Tank starts like he's going to pull so I'm like 'ok, I'll get him later' and we pull the first two groups which is pretty standard. The tank is taking a lot of damage (and I've forgotten that I don't have a sect on, because SYNCED) so I'm not really concentrating on DPS but as the pack dies I notice the SMN is just standing there and letting his Pet attack. Now, I knew some people pre-SB that liked to let their pet do most of the attacking, but this person is in at least partial 360 gear so I figure they had to step away a moment or something, even though they never said anything in chat. I don't really think anything of it as we run to the Iron Giant. I do DPS for that since damage is pretty minimal but it takes a while because still no SMN. I finally ask during the next pack, 'where's the other DPS' hoping one of the others might have qued with them or maybe knows what's going on. No one does. I type their name in chat with a question mark. Nothing. We end up vote kicking due to AFK and finish the dungeon with a new DPS. (Somewhere before the first boss I remember to put a sect on, LOL).


My gut tells me this person might have been butthurt that I didn't immediately cast protect when I got within range. I only say that because I've seen tanks do that back in the days when I only had AST (and no WHM--so no Protect to crossclass). I dunno, they could have had a real Real-Life issue but they were certainly ready to go when we loaded in. *shrugs*

Just finished Bardam's with a GLA tank. Don't know how he managed to not get instagibbed by the final boss, but he barely survived. Wiped once on the trash by the first treasure coffer because he took an AoE to the face and got one-shotted. First BLM left at that point. Got another BLM and managed to clear. Overall we were kinda surprised he managed to hold hate about as well as a first-time tank in Sastasha. It felt like healing a Brayflox HM speedrun though.

Apparently he didn't go PLD for RP reasons from what he mentioned (he even had the RP tag on). I don't mind the occasional RP in dungeons, but at least use the darn soul crystal. I already feel sorry for whatever healer gets him in Castrum Abania, because he's going to get one-shotted over and over again in that place.

I shouldn't ever be in tank stance. In dungeons. As I'm pulling all the things.

So I mean I can't fully blame tanks for this mentality. Some people, repeatedly being told this, will start doing it. Me? Nah. It's a dungeon. I'd rather not let my party die and have them do all the dps. Saving those few extra seconds....just seems silly to me.

The healer part in particular reminds me of that one run I had of Zurvan (Normal/Hard) in which I had a pair of healers that absolutely refused to do the job they signed up as. A Tank job can only take so much damage before needing heals, even when using cool downs. I know I made that post somewhere in this thread, but I don’t feel like digging it up.

It’s why lately that any time I sign up as a Tank or Healer for Duty Roulette, I’m pestering someone I trust to be my Tank or Healer buddy for the run(s). I’ve seen enough crazy and/or bad Tanks and Healers to know that if they refuse to do the job they signed up as... things won’t be pretty. They may as well just be signing up as DPS if all they care about is their DPS epeen.

... I’d share a story while I’m here, but I haven’t had any silly crazy runs lately that got me to facepalm. Granted, I’ve been getting my Mendacity via Eureka lately.

Pulling bosses, using Blank on cooldown, not killing the adds in the first boss, killing spriggans in the second boss and actively shooting snowballs away with spread shot, having Bishop Autoturret active on bosses, eating cleaves behind me (not that those hurt much, but still), not dodging Lunar Cry... And not correcting any of this when mentioned. Would have thought he was trolling, but honestly he was doing a pretty bad job at that too.

When I have this happen while tanking (happens more than it should), I let them tank what they pull. If they pull a boss before I do, I step out of the room. If they kick me, well, I just re-queue and get a new group. Yes, I'm aware that they may have sat in queue for 5-20 minutes but pissing off your tank and healer isn't going to speed up your run.

Still running DS and WCoM in hopes of getting the minion drops.
Pulled into DS today:
Didn't actually notice the newbie message at the beginning but quickly noticed people were dying in Deathgaze, so offered in pt chat to explain the following fights. Newbie healer v thankful. Marked myself so they could follow me for Ferdiad's Atomos stuff since I'm aware it's confusing first time (I'm especially dumb and it took me like, 3 months before it clicked lol). Mana shift always on Cd etc etc. Oh and another alliances healer was taking great joy in running in circles with the stack marker in Diabolos and actively saying so in Alliance cht (wish i'd been tanking, i honestly would have let them be cleaved.)

So yeah actively worked to explain everything in that run possible whilst still actually playing and help keeping people up with vercure, plus mana shift and still only 1 comm. probably from the new healer. its a good job that DS and WCoM are my favourite raids otherwise i'd swear off ever doing them again... I just want to get the minions in this lifetime. SE please make them a guaranteed drop, they're not current content anymore and afaik all the other raids ARE guaranteed drops.

Trial Roulette, Zurvan today and despite popping Shadewalker I still get agro on the boss and get squashed, then I pop it again for adds and poke them carefully and promptly get squashed again. Tanks seemed to have either been dps stance the entire time or started in tank stance for 1-2 hits and turned it off for the rest of the fight. This happens far too often too. Heck, I'm not even a strong dps, my rotation is a mess. I main Crafter and don't battle as much.

This annoys me with FF's dps-is-everything gameplay where a tank is encouraged to avoid tank stance as much as possible. A tank in ff14 actually has the tools to generate an emnity that not even a god dps at double power could hope to come close to (especially DRK), but they get punished for using them and don't. And so many fights are just a mess. You see it in dungeons all the time too. Getting 20% damage a little sooner isn't worth dead dps and agro ping pong.

I actually have another Zurvan normal run I had a few days ago, and I want to thank the group for bearing with me on it. I was getting close to getting my WHM to lvl.70, but I had honestly never tried using it in a trial before because I'd been worried about how I'd do with a cohealer. But even though I'm still kind of learning, I figured I was probably ready to give it a try and jumped into trial roulette for some more experience, hoping for something a little less stressful. Unfortunately it was Zurvy.

I let the group know ahead of time I was still learning the job to give them a heads up, to which I was mostly met with supportive replies. It was a tricky one, and I know I made a few mistakes, some of which were because I'm not quite used to my current hotbar arrangements, but still. All in all I think I held my own, despite people dying before I even had a chance to target them. I probably could have timed out my aoe heals a bit better, but I hadn't done Zurvy since I first ran him months ago and didn't remember the exact battle script. We didn't wipe though, and I got half the comms, so I suppose I did something right.

It was beautiful! Ran a Snowcloak yesterday: WAR (me), 2 SAM, and a WHM. AOE was plentiful, heals were stellar, bosses melted like butter. I think we finished around 15 minutes. I think the two SAM were from JPN but damn they nuked mobs, few runs as clean as that so I was stoked. ;)

With HoH being released today, a reminder: please don't be That Guy.

The guy who zergs through, does the absolute bare minimum and then sets up camp at the CoP and berates anyone who actually wants to look for silver chests or loot. The content is barely 10 hours old. Let people enjoy themselves instead of throwing a tantrum when they don't want to join in your speedrun.

Sometimes I just don't know what to say.

Been leveling my SAM, now in range of the Vault. Runs in there have been awesome, except this last one. The tank had 2k HP more than me. The healer was clad in mostly level 52 NQ healer gear, with one piece from the Vault (bracers, I think it was). The other DPS was a SAM that I don't know what they were doing with their gear. Most of it was old ARR gear, as in anything between ilevel 55 or so to 90. Weapon was the SAM starter weapon. They did less damage than the tank on bosses. Both the healer and the SAM had several other jobs at 70. The tank was a sprout.

First boss killed us 4-5 times because his jump attack would one-shot the healer, so game over if he targeted them - and he liked doing that.
Second boss we actually one-shot - with me left standing with ~50% HP and the tank down to a few hundred HPs.
Charibert.. went decently. We actually got him down to a few per cent left when we wiped.

Tank D/Ced, other DPS left. We refilled ranks with another DPS, I left and returned on PLD and got another DPS in my place, and we ground Charibert into a pulp. At 5% left I remembered I had Goring Blade.
Hey, it's been a while since I played my PLD. Like, beginning of Stormblood while =P

Please, people, I know dungeons are easy.

But still, do a gear check before you sign up in the duty finder. Please? Even if you're not a crafter it's not very much gil you have to fork over to purchase NQ gear in Ishgard that's better than the ilevel 90 gear from ARR..

Was doing Heaven on High with my girlfriend earlier. Just to do the first 30 floors and get back into the swing of things and have some fun. We ended up in a party with me (SAM), her (RDM), pug 1 (DRG), and pug 2 (MNK). We were only on 11-20 and the four of us were moving together when my girlfriend steps on a Silence and Pacification trap. So this MNK runs into the next room and pulls everything, we all go in and try to save him and he ends up dying because our RDM is unable to heal him.

Immediately rage quits.

Thankfully we got a second RDM not even a second later and they were very pleasant and chatty.

I loathe the people who just want to rush to the door when it opens; like, at least poke your head into the next room to see if there's a chest WORTH getting. For that matter, some of us are new enough to HoH that we need the silver chests, and some actually like having the poms or summons. Heck, some of the people running to the door don't even bother with the chests that they pass, and the chests sometimes include items that might save more time than they spent skipping that chest (eg., Rage, Strength, Petrification). If a chest is beyond so many rooms or mobs, and you don't have the new poms to just run past everything without getting aggro or traps, then I can see the point of just heading to the door, but don't outright ignore the value of gold or silver chests. <_<

Also, Kall, that Mnk doesn't surprise me any. Could Selli have used an Echo Drop at that moment? Perhaps. Should anyone have relied on her to do so, or use that trap as the starting gun to go wild in a given HoH floor? Not without looking like an idiot. So that Mnk can go enjoy him(or her?)self. lol

I don't know if she had any Echo Drops, but I don't think she would have been able to save him anyway. There was about 4-5 monsters that he pulled (they weren't from a Luring Trap, mind you). The DRG and I were struggling to take them down even when Selli could heal again, but thankfully our new member grabbed us a Witching Pomander and we were able to kill them.

I was doing Aery as bard for Wondrous Trails (need dungeon lv51-59) and saw tank using gear iLvl 90, some 120. Well, I said the things could be hard this way. Healer seems to have thought I talked in offensive way and criticized me by not be using songs. Well, yes, I was thinking in other things and forgot about songs. I only said sorry and started to use after the first boss.

Sometimes I used Tactician/Reflesh to lose aggro, but in general the tank was doing well even with that ilvl. And only died 1x. So I give commendation for tank. But before leave I said: "Sr. Tank, next dungeon is very hard with bad gear. Try catch better gear" o.o

Right. Like, among other things, one of my points was that Echo Drops could have been useful, but shouldn't have been necessary, or, as you're saying, wouldn't have been enough to save that Mnk from his/herself. I know THAT situation all too well as a healer.

Honestly when you enter a dungeon that you know has a fair chance of silencing you and if it happens on the wrong time could possibly cause a wipe, echo drops should be a standard. They would be if it were a boss mechanic, why not a dungeon mechanic?

I always carry them, esp for PotD or HoH now. To me its like not putting a very helpful job ability on your bar when you know it could save the pt. If someone didn't put Esuna on their bar for instance when a boss had a poison mechanic that could be deadly if it just happened to coincide with an add phase they would be called out hard for it, why is it different with something like echo drops? If you trigger that trap at the wrong time its over.

Being prepared for a likely scenario is just as necessary as anything else imho.

But in the case of a mnk pulling a whole room when he should have known better, as a healer I would have used an echo drop and waved at him while I watched him get ko. Do it all the time with people who pull early in dungeons or primals. Refusing to heal trolls or people who wanna Leroy Jenkins something can be much more satisfying than just not being able to.

It's not duty finder, but I die inside a little whenever someone kills me at OS7 because they decided to use their gap closer without any forewarning while Abandonment was active.

I honestly kind of miss when the window before the fear kicks in was smaller because it meant both of you would die if that happened, whereas now the offender can get away with it due having enough time to move near the MT, but the unknowing player likely won't be able to react quickly enough.

The guy didn't even have the decency to apologize afterward.

I was given Brayflox Hard on paladin for roulette. Had a sprout healer (with a 43 weapon so I pulled accordingly), a sprout dragoon, and a not new BLM.

But if it were a normal run I wouldn't be sharing this story. The problem of this run was the BLM. I had a stupid ice mage. It's no wonder things were dying so slowly when all I see is blizzardblizzardblizzardblizzardblizzard Blizzard III. I got on his case after the second boss but I'm not sure he ever cast fire II even when I saw the occasional fire or fire III.

Though despite that at least the final boss went well, albeit slowly.

Bonus Story:

Normal Kefka on Paladin. Wiped at 33% and it was pretty far into his final phase with the eye mechanic. At least 5 people had absolutely no idea what they were doing and there was no bonus. That was by far the worst run I have ever seen. One dps took the penalty and I gladly left right then and there. There's such things as an occasional wipe and simply try again and clear, and then there's lost causes. That was one of them. I've never seen a party so bad he was only at 33% about 10 minutes into the duty.

Yep, no new people yet FIVE people at a time get hit by the "stare at the eye" mechanic.

Was in a Tsukiyomi farm party that disbanded after barely any attempts due to glacial DPS and a lack of understanding of mechanics. Everyone in the party had a weapon, everyone had cleared at some point. Yet we still got to 100% during the Add phase which never happened even during learning parties that I was a part of, with people constantly making little mistakes. We eventually hit enrage with 20% health left, which I've also never seen before... Healing was fine, we weren't having to constantly pick people off the floor, so I watched the party the second time around to see what was happening.

I think one of the DPS was literally just spamming '1' over and over again because they were so low on the enmity meter that the healers were outpacing them by leaps and bounds... This wasn't even from an enmity drop either as they never went beyond last place on the enmity meter, while everyone else was almost fighting the tanks for aggro. It doesn't fully account for the rest of the shenanigans, but it just made me ':/' at the whole thing... If you're not willing to at least try, please don't be in a farm party.

Also had HM Nidhogg for trial that was fine except for the random person going off on the party for daring to say thank you once the fight was over... It's been a weird day today for group content.

So real talk here. Why is it a lot of warrior offtanks I get love just spamming butcher's block? I don't think the extra 20 potency outweighs the benefits of the path combo's gauge increase. They also never shirk me, forcing me to use a lot more enmity combos or tank stance (short of just letting them take it and being done with it entirely). I even watched this guy and he was using a very particular 3 step swing enmity generator.

I mean I already know the answer but I figure I'd get second opinions on this.

Just ran Wanderer's Palace NM for 50/60. We had an RDM and a BLM, so I figured, nice, aoe party. BLM kept spamming Fire III even after I asked them to use Fire II and kept attacking targets despite other enemies having the "1" mark on them, so ofc they pulled a lot of enemies and triggered a lot of mechanics I have never seen before because I started playing in HW.
It was a bit of a learning experience, I suppose

Allow me to paint you a picture…of an angry healer Miqote, shaking her head angrily as the boss dragon of the Stone Vigil normal fell. Her lip curled in disgust. “Twice…you’ve only used a cooldown twice in this whole place,” she chided, clapping slowly. “Well done.”

This was an interesting run, for sure. I was running alongside a NIN sprout as my co-DPS. The tank kept saying something about going further along as we went through the dungeon. No idea what they were talking about, but they did have an RP tag – not sure if that had any significance. Around the area where you have to climb some steps and a flying dragon comes down to shoot out fire, tossing out my AOE, I ended up snatching aggro on one of the adds. It wasn’t one of those gradual buildup aggro snatches – I launched one AOE and I flat out snatched up aggro on one enemy, while the healer somehow got another one. The Aery that I accidentally grabbed tore me to pieces – Diversion did not help at all…my oh-shit-I-have-aggro-go-Diversion was only up for maybe 5 seconds before I died.

When I rezzed, the tank said that we were too close to the mobs and implied that we got cleaved. I pointed out that aggro was why I died, and I would be more proactive in making sure to use Diversion/Lucid to prevent that from happening again. Healer pointed out that the mobs did not cleave, the tank just didn’t hold hate. On the first boss, I like to stand on the ledge just before you go into the arena for reasons. This bothered the tank for some reason, as they would not pull the boss until I actually got into the arena. “Down,” was the only thing the tank told me…and like an obedient puppy, I jumped into the arena.

We keep going. When we make it to the second boss, my first little jewel from this run happens. I ask my co-DPS if they want to take the cannons, or should I, completely forgetting that they were new to the run. Tank immediately says that the cannons are only in hard mode. I promise you, the healer did not miss a beat. “Are you missing some brain cells or something?” they said. The tank then pulls. I take care of the cannons, we beat the boss, and then we move on.
We get to that corridor with the ice spirit adds, and that’s where the second gem of this run occurs. 3 ice spirit adds and an Aery – they kill the tank, and then the rest of us. Healer goes off. “For the love of god, use your ******* cooldowns. You’ve used exactly 1 cooldown in this whole run.” And then proceeded to refuse to cast protect. Tank asked for it, and the angry Miqote said that she was no longer enabling the tank’s behavior. So we went like that for the rest of the run – no protect, no cooldowns. Me being me, I kept asking the sprout if they wanted popcorn.

Poor guy must not have known what to do in a situation like this. I suppose the healer kept a special watch on the tank, which brings this story right back to the starting paragraph. Not really used to seeing salt in duty finders, but maybe something changed with tanks in the last month that more often than not, tanks are not using cooldowns.

That's probably why. They're reading the tool tips and possibly assuming they're doing more damage using Butcher's Block than using Storm's Path to quickly get into Fell Cleave mode.
I say that because the previous MT in my static (now a NIN) would never use Butchers block after their opener (and then tank in Deliverance). Only time they would ever use Butcher's Block is if a DPS was creeping up on the hate list and they didn't have Diversion or refused to sacrifice DPS with Purification (and if the OT forgot to Shirk them every so often).

Ran Mentor Roulette as PLD for the first time in ages, got Wanderer's Palace NM with a newbie DPS. Figured all right, old dungeon with all it's teeth taken out, we're good. Did my usual "I like to pull big unless asked not to" line as we waited for the newbie to finish the CS and the healer (a WHM) tells me to pull as much as I can. I take them at their word and pull from start to the first boss- I've done it before and we had a group with decent AoE, I figured with 3/4 of us being level and ilvl synced it wouldn't be too much of an issue. The newbie DPS starts attacking on the way and pulls aggro from a few mobs, doesn't keep up, gets shanked by the wandering Stalker, and the adds they pick up mob the healer after they die. Meanwhile I've got all my CDs running and I pick up the strays but by that point we were facing a wipe since a DPS was dead. We still made a good show of it until me and the healer ran out of tools to use.

Didn't say a word about the wipe but I immediately get snark from the healer telling me to hold aggro as we res at the start. Tell the party not to DPS or Regen during the pulls until I stop, and it goes fine the next time. Then I made the mistake of trying to have fun at the first boss by saying "Pro tip: dodge the stuff". Healer immediately zings back "Pro tip: hold aggro" and that only people who are good at the game get to say "pro tip", passive-aggressive condescension and <3 included. Alright... fine. At that point they were just out to be a **** so I didn't say much, just kept pulling. Had some sketchy moments before the second boss and that pull up to the third since I forgot what to actually do there, but thankfully ilvl saved the day. I'll admit I got petty and started giving "pro tips" before the second and third boss just to annoy the WHM though. I had better runs with nicer people after that but I'm still kind of bummed that my first tanking foray in a while was with such a miserable person.

We had a summon to pop on every single floor past 21, including the boss. We just got to run around and collect everything we wanted in peace.
How does that even happen?

Ran HoH as a summoner. Figured I hadn't played it in a while, I'll have a go at it.

Every set of floors had another summoner and two of them had scholars.

So many pets.

I kicked a bad player and now I feel bad. :/


Queued for leveling as warrior, got an eight-minutes-in-progress duty that turned out to be Qarn. The room before the first boss still had enemies in it.

It was quickly evident that the bard was... not so good. Possibly new, shot the boss before I hit it, failed the doom mechanic, may not have been using anything but Quick Nock. Later they shot more enemies before I engaged them, and killed the stone head when it wasn't on the switch. I wanted to attempt to give them some tips, but didn't want to stop and hold up the party while I typed. So didn't get to say anything.

A weird mechanic I haven't seen before popped up after collecting the tablets, in the room with the two mantises. A "Qarn Facer" stone head came out of the doorway up ahead (leading to the golem boss), followed by the patrolling ghost from that chamber. I've only ever seen a Facer in one spot in that dungeon, one of the early chambers from before I joined this run, though if you don't kill it fast enough it turns and flees. (I've never seen it actually get away, as it normally gets shot down by a ranged player at that point.) So I'm guessing they failed to kill it, and if that happens it comes back again.

Anyway, we still fail to kill it, and it runs away while we're still fighting the mantises and ghost.... and the bard follows. We finish off our battle, and arrive to an empty underground chamber and the yarzons clustered around a dead bard in the boss room. Saw that coming a mile off. Fight them, revive, move on to the boss.

The bard was dead again rather quickly, and the healer didn't revive them right away. Once revived, they again didn't last long - I think I saw them just stand in the middle of that big line AoE and not even trying to dodge. Could be lag, but anyway they got hit by it, and unsurprisingly that led to their death again.

Battle over, and a vote dismiss pops up for the bard, with the reason "harrassment" - which was not at all the issue, but I had also wondered about kicking them... except I should try to talk to them first... except I don't feel like there's time to talk to them... and also I wasn't sure if I could refuse that vote kick and then start a different one if I tried to talk and they didn't listen. So I just said yes, and it went through.

And now, I feel bad because they didn't get any feedback and I really should have at least tried.

Also do they get some kind of mark against them for being kicked-for-harrassment when actually they weren't doing that?


(Side note: the Facer reappeared again towards the end, I think in the area with the first two vaults. We finally killed it there and got the treasure chest that we normally get right back in the early chambers.)

To my DRK co-tank on Kefka normal: I asked you why you were spamming Power Slash as the offtank. "It does more dmg" is... what? I'm sorry what?

Hard slash (150) + Spinning slash (220 + enmity) + Power Slash (300 as a combo OR 240 not used as a combo with DRK arts, or 440 potency with dart arts AS A COMBO with enmity). IT DOES NOT DO MORE THAN 440 POTENCY (excluding things like darkside but that's a given).

*Facedesk* I gave up and just shirked him.

Just got a paladin offtank spamming the halone combo. What is with people? I really wish I were making these things up but it's a running joke with some people in my FC about my awful DF luck.

Are these tanks doing their enmity combos Shirking? That's...About the only answer I could give.

No. They are not.

This is the source of a lot of my DF misery when tanking. That Dark Knight genuinely thinks doing power slash does more damage than soul eater. It does not. It does a lot more enmity, but not more damage.

Had a run of HoH floors 21-30 with a diificult RDM this morning. The other WHM and I had to raise them twice because they kept running off from the group. The corners also put them out of my line of sight when they ran ahead of the rest of us. They also used Vercure a few times, so when I could see them, they were either fine on health or dead.
I honestly tend to overheal, which is something I'm working on curbing.

For extra perspective, I've run floors 1-30 of HoH as an RDM with no healers and no need to be raised.

Anyway, at the end of the run, the other healer and I say thank you to the party for the run. The RDM quips back, "thanks for 0 heals" and immediately left, which left me annoyed and confused after raising them and healing whenever I could.

tldr: Why you gotta be so rude? Watch out for corners between rooms. And happy my parties since then have been nice.

I'm always thankful for people who do communicate with the group and stick together. Right after this, I had another run with an amazing, talkative tank. So thanks to the many other players who have been awesome!
