It does. Without a full party , they shouldn't have been able to queue.
Thank you! I honestly wish I just took a forum break after posting it now so I would have never known how much I apparently bothered people xD
I do really appreciate this though, you didn't have to apologize and it's really sweet that you did. If I said anything to you that was harsher than was maybe called for (I honestly can't remember) I am also sorry. It was clearly a hot topic there for a minute and I was playing defense perhaps a bit too offensively.
Anyways, I really do appreciate this. Thank you very much! <3
The weapon is indeed a very powerful thing in terms of stats, damage/healing output, etc. In terms of item levels however, an i310 weapon contributes to the average item level equally as much as an i310 accessory. As a result, the Red Mage can queue solo with the lower item leveled weapon since he had all i330 Lost Allagan stuff on everything else.
As for the Hell's Lid run I specified earlier with said bad Red Mage, it only took 20 minutes. Mostly because the other members, myself included, were geared well. The warrior was full 350 + anemos weapon (all equipment melded). The Ninja was BiS with Diamond Weapon (also melded). I had a mix of 320-340 equipment (Genji healing belt and healing accessories. All equipment melded.) And not surprisingly, the Red Mage had no melds on.
OH now I understand. Your original post said 230 armor. I'm guessing that was a typo since you're saying it was Lost Allagan (330). A lot of people (including me) were confused because if they had 230 armor and 270 weapon, their iLv wouldn't be high enough to queue into Hell's Lid in the first place.
I don't know about other people, but weapons are typically the first thing I upgrade when I can. It just doesn't feel right to upgrade all my armor/accessories first and then my weapon.
^^
Yeah, sorry about the typo. It only came to my attention after you brought it up.
Just got out a lovely Aurum Vale run - and I do mean Lovely, I'm not being sarcastic! Who knew the dungeon could be fun, right?
Now that I have DRK to 60 I'm getting PLD to 60.. and PLD is easily my weakest tank. So when I get dropped in AV i'm just like oh no. Turns out the SCH was queueing for it for some EXP to get to 50, and they ask for groups no bigger than four. Did my best but unfortunately the first room just be like that. I think it was 2 frogs and 6 of the various plant ones. They did great! Really well. My HP dropped to around 900 ish but I didn't panic at any point because they were on point with healing, it was wonderful. I think the DPS was DRG and NIN I want to say? One of them goes "So... Maybe we can count that as a REALLY BIG 4mob pull?" which I just found amusing and the SCH commented that they heal better in the day.
They must have been running AV a while since they said I was a better tank and the DPS were better too - felt good since I then admitted that PLD really is my weakest tank, I suck at it honestly. At this point we got quite chatty at the first boss, discussing DPS who died because they stood in the goldbile, and I brought up that tank from my Fractal Hard that stood in the Sephi bubble with 6-7 vuln up stacks and got tankbuster'd into the next century.
Shout out to Mr Kneebiter the Lalafell. I can't believe it took me so long to notice you as my healer being lalafell and named that. You were great! and also the DPS V Montel + A Fox. It was a great run to get me back into using PLD since I haven't played the job for 2-3 months.
Re. monk AoE attacks, Rockbreaker (coeurl form cone attack, 130 potency per target, 120 TP) should be an easy choice over Snap Punch (coeurl form single target, 130/170 potency, 40 TP). It's basically free attack power!
Bit of a self-indulgent rant, I guess. I haven't had a very good week.
After three years, I think I have to finally hang up my healer's badge for good. I have always loved healing, and outside of casual roulette forays into other classes, been a strict career healer for pretty much all content. I loved the challenge, the freedom, the unpredictability, the satisfaction of saving runs, pulling nearly impossible saves, meeting new content, seeing myself improving. But I've been touching it less and less since Stormblood hit, and working on Savage lately has hit home that all the enjoyment I once felt has completely gone.
Healing now just feels stressful, like a job I dread going to. Optimal performance means squeezing out every bit of DPS you can spare, perfectly timing heals and regens for minimal overhealing, somehow developing clairvoyance to predict when a party member screws up so they don't wipe in the space of a GCD and blame it on you, telepathy so you know if your co-healer is actually going to bother putting up shields or Excog seconds before a TB or AOE goes out, as well as the usual mechanics of these fights. Bad cooldown usage, poor gear, fudging mechanics, inconsistent co-healing - if the party wipes from this, it's your fault. If you pull it off, no one knows or cares because they're busy bragging about the DPS they aged you ten years standing in AOEs to get.
But this has always been a part of healing. So what's different? Well, I'm a WHM main. I play AST if needed, if only because HW practically made it mandatory at one point, but WHM has always been my primary class, and I'm fond of it. I've switched between the two for Savage, and what adds to the frustration of it all is how bad WHM still feels to play next to the other healers. While their toolkits have grown and evolved, WHM remains stagnant, with only a useless gauge and better mana management. I couldn't care less for number crunching on technically in this scenario it has fractionally better DPS - it feels clunky, stale and awkward, has zero utility, and I spend most of the time feeling I should be on AST instead. We've been bypassed yet again in the upcoming update, and after having Divine Seal ripped away and shared out, AST now effectively gets a smaller PoM + Thin Air in one nifty button. The class has nothing left to offer that the other classes can't do also, and more efficiently, which has wiped out any enthusiasm I might have had left.
It makes me sad, because what I once loved and what pulled me into FFXIV is now a source of boredom and frustration, but trying to progress these past few weeks and hating it all the while has made me realise the fun just isn't there anymore. I don't even know where to go from here.
EDIT: Realise this sounds more like it belongs in a healing thread - I came here because it originated from a spate of bad runs. Oh well, I'm not much in the mood for the endless debating, anyway.
On an alt, Queue up for Trial roulette as DRG, end up getting the Chrysalis.
At the back of my head I'm a little worried cause I remember how hard it use to be.
It doesn't start smooth. Dps feels slow, the other three DPS die to the add phase. Both times. We still somehow make it to the tear phase, I LB it as soon as it pops under the first meteor... and apparently I am the only one dpsing it cause we wipe with the tear at like 2%.
The other DRG complains "I hate this trial."
I want to say something less than nice, something like "Why are you complaining, we're having to carry you. You were on the floor the whole time." but just say "It wouldn't be a problem if people were DPSing the tear."
The next time it goes a little smoother, the other dps still end up on the floor. The other DRG is the first one to die.
I'm fuming the whole time like how DARE YOU complain when others are having to work 2X harder cause you're on the floor constantly. .___.
Just got out of a temple of the fist where a BRD didn't do *anything* but single target poison on one single enemy and refused to use songs.
A mentor.
I've never even seen things like this prior to hitting level cap and endgame dungeons. It's almost every day now.
Oof.
Oh yeah, and to kick it off they wouldn't use any role actions even though the DPS that was awake was consistently out of TP from AoEs even after invigorate.
So I just finished SB recently, and I've noticed that it seems incredibly commonplace now for people to immediately leave dungeon queues as soon as they see someone is new to an instance at the start of a run, or tanks that just leave 5 minutes after a dungeon starts if they feel people aren't clearing enough.
More of just a general vent, but this makes me really wish they would increase the penalty for people ditching dungeons early on like this.
So might be just me but lately I've been getting a lot of people who just love to stand behind me when I'm tanking and who try to stick to my butt when I turn the enemy around so that the others don't get hit.
I mean...Don't stand behind me ! It's a dangerous place okay !? I don't know why but lately people have been doing that and it's getting on my nerves.
When that happens to me and the player in question dies as a result i just use the /laugh emote at them.
As in, i laugh at their stupidity.
They tend to get pretty angry about it, complete with screams about "BAD TANK! A GOOD TANK WOULD NOT HAVE LET ME DIE!" completely ignoring that it was their choice to stand in the cleaves and AOE's and that i was actively trying to turn the enemies away from them.
They deserve to be laughed at.
Happened in Rabanastre to me yesterday. I don't know what it is but some players just gravitate to the front of the boss, maybe they're playing with the camera zoomed in or something? We were on Hashmal and he does a tank cleave that can one shot squishies easily. I see a bunch of people drawn to me like magnets (it was like 4 players, the other 19 were behind it), so I put the mark (the red avoid one) and they still don't move, then they get 1 shot by rock cutter. If I turned the boss I would have just gotten other people killed and screwed up the melee. Beats me why people do that.
I had a rather interesting Gubal normal run today. I was DRK. My teammates were a WHM, SAM, and MCH. One of them was new.
During the first boss, I explained the mechanics of dodging things at all costs and going behind the boss before he finishes casting "Disclosure". The healer did neither and her HP dropped to 0 after Disclosure was cast. It was me and the other 2 dps. We had no one to res healer. However, we dodged all aoes and attacked with great DPS. Unfortunately, the MCH forgot to dodge the next Disclosure. It's me and the SAM. The SAM eventually got knocked out. The boss had 10-15 percent life left. So I did my best to survive and eventually beat the first boss. The healer was clearly new to the instance, despite having a level 60 PLD as well.
The other interesting part is the last boss. I explained the boss mechanics as usual (dodge aoes, going in lit circles, etc.) When the fight began, the healer was targeted with a pulsing orb aoe and forgot to get away from it. The healer's HP dropped to zero early on in the battle. We had no healer pretty much the whole fight. However, because we had great dps, followed mechanics, and dodged each aoe, we actually beat the last boss without having a healer most of the time, with both DPS and myself still alive for the entire battle.
I also used defensive cooldowns, HQ Max-Potions I got cheap over the MB, and used Sprint when I need to run/dodge from attacks real fast.
I got all 3 player commendations in the end. I gave my commendation to the MCH because the SAM that lived longer during the first boss fight did not stay long enough to receive it during the loot roll.
I had a pretty annoying dungeon run, I got Siren song sea,I was white mage. There was a dark knight, a red mage, and a bard, the red mage stood in every aoe and died at least five times. When he died in the 2nd boss room, I was waiting for swift cast to revive him once again, so swift cast cool down is over, I use it and raise, and he ignored my raise and remained dead. Then the bard decided to yell "revive the dps healer". The red mage eventually accepted raise, then later died to adds as usual. Then the bard said "Tank pull smaller this healer keeps letting the red mage die" We finally cleared what makes it worse is, the bard I'm talking about was a Kirito clone.Rant over
Huh. I wonder how "DPS dying on pulls" is the healer's fault. Basically all trash AoE is dodgeable (DPS for not getting hit) and if the DPS was taking hits from the enemies themselves, that's on the tank.
I'm guessing either dualboxing or friends.
I was running DR Leveling the other day, and we got Amdapor City and our tank is Warrior would not use Defiance throughout the enter dungeon. The tank dies immediately because apparently his armor is absolute garbage, and by garbage, I mean none of it is 50, it is all below 50 with a sprinkle of a dungeon gear or two. When we finally got to the fight with Diabolos, the idiot finally whips out Defiance and even then his health increase was just a piddly 100 hp over my own.
I had to explain Diabolos mechanics cause apparently none of the party knew what to do, we wiped naturally cause no one opened the other door that I marked when the fight started, the second attempt they listened to me and we won.
I am sorry but if you are a tank, and you are 50 or above, you should not be running around with level 1 rings, and level 30 armor with a level 40ish axe, how you even managed to get this far into the game is beyond me.
This isn't really about anything in particular, but learning DRG, and when you lose Blood because the last mob available dies to an execute move (Assassinate, Misery's End, etc.) RIGHT as you're about to land Fang and Claw to extend the duration.
Feelsbadman.
(Bard, actually.)
Possibly, but even with hardly touching it and a two month gap since January I'm still feeling frustrated with it. I don't know if it'll resolve as long as WHM stays stagnant.
And not OP, but it'd certainly help being able to play without feeling like your choice is hindering the group...
At least you didn't start a forum post about the problem. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...y-miss-so-much
That was 4.5 years ago, and I've been a WHM main ever since. But I'm still embarrassed by that thread.
Shout out to anyone and everyone who has grouped with me while I'm on my SAM. I die a lot on boss fights. Positioning is everything and I'm used to playing casters, so I always get taken out by a cleave or something.
I'm so sorry. I think I might need to stick to my RDM where I play much better.
been grouped up with a lot of PLDs while leveling.
My advice to them is... USE FLASH! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, USE FLASH!
I played as bard. In the dungeon, the other DPS pretty much didn't do anything (auto attack), stayed in aoes, etc. Tank questioned them, turns out they had a kid they had to take care of (I honestly wouldn't dng until my nieces went to bed, but that's me), people gushed, blahblah, that's fine. Meanwhile, I'm busting my ass to DPS harder while keeping up buffs and whatnot for tank/heals/etc. It's a little rougher/slower because less DPSing. Other DPS LB'd in the last boss, stood in aoe of course, I put palisade on their ass so they didn't die before the LB, and they literally lived by one HP and got the LB. And yenno, I was fine with this because I felt pretty damn good about my performance. xD
Did I receive even one comm for busting my lady balls?
No. :|
This whole story was shockingly close to my first run there last week (where I played the role of the terrible WHM)- so much so that I had to read it twice and found myself sighing with relief at the words "today" and "also has a 60 PLD", both of which rule me out as your specific reference there. I apologize on that WHM's behalf either way though.
In my case, I don't recall exactly what I expected the orb to look like when the mechanic was being explained (and to be fair, the 'explanation' was 1 long line of text 5 seconds before pulling), but I do recall the reality being so different from what I imagined that it took too long to react to it, so... death by orb. And the team valiantly fought atop my corpse to a heroic victory, making my instantaneous early death that much more humiliating.
I find it more embarrassing that so many people responded and not one seemed to consider the possibility of confusion over Holy being a self-centered AOE and not enemy-targeted. Even the person who gave you the answer seemed to do so accidentally. Given that it's the only offensive spell WHMs have which is designed that way to that point, it's not an unreasonable mistake IMO (and probably a really common one)- it took me a few attempts to figure it out as well.
Hey tanks, when a DPS informs you they are currently tanking Shinryu (Normal) two-three times, I highly recommend you switch to your tank stance and maybe work on holding hate over DPSing. I considered using Pacification now that it's a hate drop, but considering how easy it was to rip hate from a Sword Oath PLD without even trying, I'd probably end up taking hate again.
I /disappointed at the tank in Sigmascape Normal/HQ Crafted i350 gear. I was very tempted to go a step further and tell them they're a terrible tank (because they were. They let two DPS die to the tank buster).
1st question was said tank facing enemy away from group 2nd question was deeps running in front of boss trying to avoid other AoE.. 3rd question wtf was OT doing??
Biggest duty finder pet peeve right now:
Healers, for the love of god, if you have ONE person take a major hit, give them a single target heal! Don't keep throwing out aoe heals and regens and expect it to do the job!
I understand struggling to prioritize healing if the entire party is taking big hits, but this is specifically when ONE target requires healing and if the only thing you're doing is aoe, I am judging you.
Immensely frustrating Ridorana run yesterday on BRD and then later in progress on SAM. Multiple deaths because I never got any single target heals, then when I got a raise, received zero healing and was just expected to survive somehow.
Second wind and max pots were constantly on cooldown and it is, of course, not enough. (And yes, I was appropriately grouped up with the party and yes, I was doing mechanics to the best of my ability.)
For any fight that isn't brand new, I know it well. I'll know if more damage is expected soon. And if it's not, you better believe all I'm doing is sending a regen to the person who took the damage. At 4-5k per tic the person will be back to full health before regen drops. But there's no excuse for doing that on day one in Ridorana. I healed my butt off in there yesterday.
So tonight I ran Doma's Castle as DRK (first time on it with DRK but not the first as tank).
Nothing special happened, run was really smooth and party was great.
When the duty ended I got 3 comms and if my party at the time is reading this, I don't know what I did to deserve them (maybe you were all together I dunno) but I would love to thank you for them :D
Last night I ran a guildheist with my low level Conjurer, at the start I typed "Hey, no Protect spell yet, low level sorry".
The Tank responded "make it happen"
We all stood there for a bit then the DPS started the pulls.
I wasn't sure what to say...or what exactly I was supposed to 'make happen'.
The fun ones are when that happens, and you go to the contacts list and see they are from three different servers. Not saying they aren't all partied together before queuing, but it is definitely less likely for that to happen(also happened when I was tanking on my DRK over the weekend).
I thought they changed it so that once you have it unlocked, you can have access to them at any level sync. Or were you just at that level before you were able to get access to it?
