Would be cool if they had it at the start of the game...wouldn't make much sense to keep it as a payment option after the game is launched and I wouldn't mind paying for it

I think people hate on the idea because they are just haters and stink on everything... there's not any other reason... If they don't like lifetime subs don't buy them, sheesh.
FFXIV was voted least likely to go Free 2 play given FFXI never went free to play and Hiir thinks that game is um... like oatmeal, cold, no sugar. And FFXIV went Free to play and then stopped being free as soon as it could.
The unlikely hood of any free to play in the future makes me want a lifetime sub even more.
Yes FFXIV went F2P, but them being a Multi-Billion dollar Company, they have the Funds and resources to continue the game as if it were a "P2P" game.
Other companies don't have that type of Cash to Dull out on no income coming out of it. It was a F2P game but it "behaved" like a P2P game. However they can't do that forever without any income, so It's either ARR is Strictly P2P.. or they will go F2P and "Act" like a F2P game this time, with no hope to get out a third time.
No way ARR is worse than 1.0 was. So I don't see it going F2P...
You see, most people don't like paying bills. lol
$10-$15 a month is nothing man.
Off-topic: I have been wondering.. Wait, I am just curious...
Any of you Alpha testers who have read the thread called "This is how I play."
Did it get abusive after I trolled it and went to the bed? Whenever, I read it and it definitely does look like it. >_>
No I'm not a tester, and frankly, the stuff that I've heard about the Alpha forums mentioned here kinda makes me glad I'm not >.>
Lifetime sub hardcore mode. $150 for a character lifetime membership. Would make those dungeon runs and primal fights so much more interesting! You die, and you have to pay to reanimate your character.
*Note... This was sarcasm. Please don't kill me.
FF14: A Realm Reborn I feel would be lasting for more than two years, and by the obvious portrayal of how much money SE has dumped into this project of reforming the game. A lifetime sub isn't justified at all... $150~$300 isn't even enough, that's too little. Sure you would be benefiting as the player, but as the company they would be losing income after two years of your lifetime subscription, and remember it probably wouldn't be a small amount of players taking on the lifetime sub option, it probably would be many diehard, loyal FF fans who kept with FF14 since day one...
IMO just seems like a disaster to have lifetime subs, it just doesn't work, especially for this company. Remember they have to keep on pushing content, maintenance of servers, paying staff, etc. x~x Do people think money come out of no where?
It's really not possible for it to be a "disaster," because the number of people that are likely candidates to buy them is not very high. Please don't exaggerate.Quote:

MMORPGs make massive amounts of money provided they don't fall flat on their behinds, so a few people getting a good deal on subs doesn't really hurt them at all.
You are assuming that a great deal wouldn't. But I disagree. Also they would still be losing money by the few who have paid for lifetime subs and are dedicated players passed two years. Why would a company intentionally and deliberately put themselves into a position where they would be losing money in the long run? The extra months passed two years of gameplay of a lifetime sub adds up, especially with so many diehard ff fans, as seen with FF11, they can play an mmorpg for 7~8 years until they call it a day.
I can see yearly subs as a possibility down the road. Maybe even lifetime. Not saying they shouldn't, but screwing with their pricing seems very low on SE's To Do list. It's complicated enough with the forums bitching about Legacy. I don't think they ever once asked for our feedback on their prices.
why would they need our feedback on there prices? 12.99 for 1 char per world that all you really need and for people who care 14.99 for for 8 and that still the same price as other games.
i for one am happy that lagacy only pay 9.99$ a month that a great gift for us paying i never stop paying sense the start to the end on two accounts and i even pay 90days for a 3rd account as a mule for me and my gf. I one for one feel that lifetime subs are for games being release and they know it going to fail just to get some more money at least for me.
Lifetime Discount = Legacy Status
Thought this was good enough. Like some people said they only offer it before the release of the game. I think Legacy will be the closest we will get to "lifetime sub's". I dont care how other companies do it or how easy it will be to put in or how many/few people want it, I just doubt they will do this. However if I am wrong, it wont affect me at all.
The question is how many years worth this "lifetime" sub should be.
I would say 5 years worth + 28% discount (~500 €) can be called as "lifetime". It would be expensive enough that not everyone buy it and cheap enough if you plan to play 5 years and more.
It was more "temporarily unlimited free month" ^^
Or this...
$10 = one month
$50 = six months
$80 = a year
Just saying... I think SE still have no plan to do it and this thread sounds like a waste of hardcore porn money.
^^What this person said. Well, except for the "hardcore porn" part. Ew.
I really don't think a lifetime sub is even remotely a good idea at all. Especially since SE can make much more money just charging monthly. Not that it matters, because there's no way SE would even consider he idea. lol

It's why I made a joke for fans who think Square Enix don't care about us. lol
I'm against Lifetime Subscriptions if the game hasn't been out for while. I don't want this forum littered with angry players who bought a lifetime subscription and got bored early.
If a game has lifetime subscription before it has been out for a while, I get a bad feeling the game won't be that good. TSW used to offer lifetime subscription, then it went B2P screwing over all the lifetime subscribers. From what I see from the forums, Funcom compensation was only extra perks.
People who think Lifetime subs will make SE lose money are wrong wrong wrong.
It will take years for a customer to see any advantage to having a lifetime sub. And in the meantime, it will be a gain for SE. If SE sees losses before the lifetime sub becomes profitable for the subscriber, it will have lost money in OTHER WAYS that have nothing to the existance of a life time option. By the time the life time sub becomes a discount to the player, ARR will be years old and already a success.
^^ Pretty sure that Square Enix is very serious about ARR. You see how many MMOs went F2P because the developers gave up about the amount of the subscription. Indeed, they wanted more players.
FFXI is still low but Square Enix is strongly supporting it no matter how little money they are making. lol
Final Fantasy is too good for them to give up.
Who do you think you are? God? lol
My suggestion would be... Make it F2P for players who want to try it with limited content (similar to alpha) and give them some time to think if they really want to buy it and pay to play.
We never know until beta tho. This forum keeps getting rage and rage explosion...
Yes, Yes my child. I am G... *feels a moderator's lidless gaze*..
The instant boost to cash flow can help SE greatly, it all depends on if they need to expand their team to explode in production at wake of ARR release, specially if they release before 100% ready. We can really know at beta.
Also SE can invest the money and its possible to make more in that route then letting it trickle in (not guaranteed).
Its not a waste for SE to consider this, and it really is up to very educated decisions by SE team who have the numbers and dev plans (players can speculate of course- its just not as accurate a calculation when you dont have all the information). It may be a bad plan for them, it may be a great plan, most likely if they ran it they would want to moderate how many came in through it (though -most- people dont load up on big purchases like that, I imagine a few hundred would out of(/per) thousands).
I'm sure SE is serious, however others do not have the insight we do. I like there be some protection to the consumers for a lifetime subscription. Not everyone is that smart to be able to judge if a lifetime subscription will be a good purchase before playing the game.
Here's an idea: To be eligible to a lifetime subscription a player has to be paying for any type of subscription for 3 months. After 3 months the player can upgrade to lifetime subscription. The cost of 3 months is subtracted from the lifetime subscription price and the player pays the difference.
I don't think that I would want to part with the amount of cash that a lifetime sub would cost unless the game had the potential to keep my interest for many years, kinda like XI did.
I would absolutely welcome 6/mo or yearly subs though, but with legacy I feel like I'm getting a great deal as it is so I wouldn't mind monthly either. I think for convenience sakes that yearly/lifetime subs would be great for the company, especially if the majority of those that got them didn't get real use out of it (such as say students who absolutely must take time off for studies and the like), but even if there were many, many players that did make the most of it, this would be awesome for square since money earned is totally better than money lost, and there will be plenty of people paying month-to-month so they'd still turn a profit at the end of the day. But with a lifetime sub they're guaranteed a nice lump sum instead of someone fizzling out after two months if they didn't really gel with the game or have time to dedicate to it.
Uhhhh... no? How about addressing my post?
I haven't posted since yesterday... and no one was quoted in my post so who am I arguing with?
You ignore my post because you can't argue with it. :P Fine troll my responses then because you have no real reason there shouldn't be lifetime option.
Remember, you don't have to take the option... I will.. you don't have to. :P
Lifetime subs will hurt nothing.
Lifetime Subs are mostly givin' out when they are about to make a Switch from P2P to F2P (I don't care what kind of F2P it is, it's still F2P) and I don;t want either of them. If they do offer Lifetime.. then I'm going to get worried about the Future of ARR. That's how I feel =(.Quote:

Yes but that's not reason not to have them. I know the the connotation may be bad in your eyes, but to me it's a more optimistic option. If they have a lifetime sub, then there's little reason to think that the servers will go down in flames after 2 years (again).
The fears about offering lifetime subs are based on imaginary scenarios and not in actual math or even in reality. Games going F2P have nothing to do with subscription options. Lifetime sub discount takes years to go into effect and they lost money for being bad games or the plan to go F2P was in the works from the get-go
Um no, I can't address your "WILL" posts because you think yourself you are God... =/
It's very hard to say ARR needs to have lifetime subs since it's the international game like FFXI and you are right that it needs to be very educated decisions. Yoshi-P is like a new man and his first time being a producer, however he has experienced being a director for many games before (<33 Super Bomberman games) so we shouldn't be worrying tho. Good thing that SE got the awesome producer that can use the company's powers to keep us entertaining. lol
Yes, BETA here we are waiting...
Bring back the 3 months fee now that we are past legacy time get it while its hot...it felt good not worrying about CC screw up for 3 months XD
