This would be my favorite Trial ever. I'd keep playing it even after I got my EX mount.

It's not like we're stuck choosing between one or the other. Wuk's problem isn't that she's new, it's that she's horribly written. The writers pushed her way too hard and her story had no cohesion, and in the process painted her into a corner where she really can't be redeemed without creating some sort of jarring narrative whiplash that would make people even more fatigued with her. I think people would be perfectly fine with the Scions by and large taking a backseat since they are pretty played out, but the replacements have to be compelling in their own right.
Unfortunately I can see CS3 playing it very safe next expac, and if they stick with Hiroi being the lead writer, we can expect the same quality we saw in 7.0, so we'll get both clumsy and nonsensical character development along with bland concepts.
That would involve writing some sort of payoff for a plot point and we all know Hiroi wasn't about to let that happen. If it's not an ass-pull, you can forget about seeing it in the story.
Exactly!!
Also, we've never had a boss fight with a dedicated healer involved, have we? At least not in the MSQ. They could've had Urianger use some real bullshit since he could use things like the original Nocturnal Sect being a better shield healer than Scholar was with contant regens on everything and broken buffs and debuffs.
/Loudly sighs/
OMG!
Thank you for reminding me that I'm still pissed about how the whole "Scions Divided" arc we were supposed to get turned into a whole bunch of nothing. :(
Abso-freakin-lutely!
You know it would be something wild and cool, like Batman having a contingency plan for every member of the Justice League.
Well, if we had some rivalry between the Scions, it would have taken away from talking to wuk lamat in wuk lamat XIV : wuk lamat.
Why do u guys hate her that bad
TLDR Because we aren't nearly as enthusiastic as a community to "tune in" to the next part of the story, which was almost entirely about Wuk Lamat, every other issue FFXIV has as a game are now front and center.
It's easy to point to her as a central point of frustration with the issues DT has and most of the issues with the story are because the expansion is actually her story. She's boring and clingy at best, a one-note shonen style protag, and the writing is technically bad, with contrivances and lack of friction to allow Wuk Lamat to always succeed.
Many other characters are severely under utilized and developed. Krile and both of Wuk Brothers really suffer from that.
And because the story is at it's worst point, all the other issues FFXIV has are suddenly front and center, as we don't have anything to make us happy to grind through it. The job design is simpler. The patches are taking longer. The new content is super hit or miss, with too much emphasis on certain types of content each patch.
I don't even want to go into the bait-and-switch advertising we got from DT's build up.
To be fair we get a whole lot of bait and switch in the lead up to every single expansion. Do not forget becoming an exiled criminal in ARR, the Scions vs Sharlayan in Endwalker, and the biggest and most notorious lie that could have been something literally gamechanging and epic like the "become the warrior of darkness!" in Shadowbringers.
All of these just ended up being barely acknowledged fluff or throw away plot points.
All I know is if they make her a Scion, I'm done. I can't deal with her on a long-term basis. I always get worried that Yoshi P. reacts out of spite sometimes with the community. He knows she is disliked, so I could see him forcing her on us all just to prove a point.
Get ready for Wuk Lamat to join the Scions.Quote:
"I feel a little sorry that we weren't able to properly depict her. We may have been able to make her more straightforward, so we're pushing her in the forefront as this character. But again, we're going to be reflecting that learning into [content patch 7.1] and onward, we're hoping that we can show more of what makes Wuk Lamat so great, and I'm hoping that we can regain from there." - Naoki Yoshida

I assume you mean A: Put on tiara and Turn Evil and Die; B: Die (Without turning evil); or C: Come with us
May I propose a 4th option? She will stay, and co-rule with Koana. Thus freeing Wuk Lamat to come with us as the new member of our party. I don't like it, but this is where MY money is going.
Honestly if they keep the writing style seen in 7.0, I think it's only a matter of time before the main writer picks another 'main chara' to focus clumsily on as if we're in some cheap visual novel storytelling. Then we're back at square one.
Let's face it, even with option A and B on the table, she will almost definitely be resurrected and likely because her bond with Wuk or us (but I am betting on Wuk) is so strong that it transcends both life and death.
If there is one thing you should never do, it's underestimate the reliance this team has on the power of already wildly overused and creatively cheap anime tropes over actual good and well thought out story telling.
Wuk Laminate is literally the only character i HOPED would die asap. Sadly, here we are.
"Spheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeene listen to me. I won't let you die. I promised! Don't step into the light. By the power of peace, love, joy, and happiness! Spheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeene."
/Spheene immediately starts breathing again and regains her conciousness/
You read it here first. Enjoy 7.3!
I would like to propose a fifth option: Sphene remains in Alexandria as the sole and rightful ruler and Gulool Ja either moves to Tuliyollal to live with his aunt and uncle (and possibly becomes a future candidate for Dawnservant) or takes up his dad's swords and tags along with us. Lizard Kid is cute and all, but he has no business ruling Alexandria; to the best of our current knowledge, the "king of resolve" was a title imposed on Alexandria by his stupid ass father thirty years ago and can be dismissed as illegitimate.
That is actually a curious point; Wuk Lamat barely interacted with Real Sphene at all, but instead, Sphene was with us during 7.2.
Wuk Lamat is bonded with Endless Sphene, and the cast made it very clear that they are two wholly different characters.
Because Wuk Lamat was supposed to be bonding with Real Sphene just the same way she bonded with Endless Sphene. It's VERY odd that she fell head-over-heels for the Endless Sphene, and yet, when the REAL Sphene shows up, she just goes, "Huh. Neat. Well, I'll be in the background, doing anything else than interacting with Sphene. And talking to literal background nobodies instead of the Real life version of my 'dear friend'."
Any inconsistency is cause for scrutiny, both in real-life investigations and in fiction.
It's so out of character, it's jarring. It took me right out of the plot, as likable as Sphene is and as much as I was glad for Wuk to take a backseat, it makes no sense storywise.
The only way it makes a lick of sense is that all of those scenes were originally planned to be Wuk Lamat, but they were redone after the reaction to Wuk in 7.0 to instead have Sphene bond with your WoL. Makes sense, they would hardly have to re-record any lines unless they specificall said "Llama Tea". Just keep Sphene's dialogue and recontextualize everything else as involving the WoL, easy.
Why would Wuk Lamat LOVE the fake Sphene and give no shits about the REAL one? Because it was rewritten.
She wouldn't rule Tuliyollal. If she rules anything, it would be Alexandria and she'd boot out Lizard Kid. Or co-rule with him.
Though really with how they set her up as someone without a country or a time, it would make very little sense. Plus she already gave her literal life for that kingdom already. Let the girl do something else. Even if it's not coming with us, let her explore with Erenville or something.
Koana Tuliyolall and Wuk Lamat ruling Alexandria with baby lizard. I like the gist of it, would free Sphene to adventure with us. And we could ignore the New World for the next part of the story, because there is NOTHING interesting happening there. We went from refugee crisis', poverty and mistreatment of other races to solving hunger with a magical dance party and sharing food between mortal enemies
Agreeing with everyone here. I hope we can get more of Sphene in the future!
