At least one person has said this about the "other MMO" for the past 3 expansions and it never plays out because Blizzard can't refrain from shooting itself in the foot.

Oh hunny. Hunny no
The last time I truly had fun in a jrpg was KHII
As for why I sub. The raid tier is really enjoyable with solid music. Plus I'm grinding out alpha wolf. I'm not really sure what the point of this post was besides regurgitated shower thoughts. It's like ur angry at the community when they say they don't see things exactly like you do. I think you need to reevaluate your critical thinking process here
I'm only staying subscribed because there hasn't been a decent new MMO release in a while, and it seems even the ones in production have been delayed. I might give WoW's newest expansion a try, only for the fact that I miss playing classes(jobs) that are actually fun to play with better class identities, and a real healer role.
Might even go back to playing EverQuest a bit again as I'm already bored with DawnTrail.
It’s me I’m the real reason the game has subscribers
EX DEE LMAO. nice weird bait
I am subscribed because I have a fc house, a personnel house, and a island. I love both workshops especially my fc which can make the new country exterior. :) I am also a omni crafter and love to make stuff to sell .. my goal is to make a billion gil and I am 1/3 of the way there. I love going over the whole story on alts I currently have 9. 5 have made it through DT. 4 are passed EW .....I am retired and this is the only game I play . Also I love the glamour and spend hours getting each outfit right on all 9 characters. The eye candy has improved greatly since the expac dropped ... :)
You don't need mods to look great not anymore the new graphics update has improved all. The bikinis look good and flat assed like they use too. Taffeta shawl is not a small chested bump, but a full figured breast now. The Thavnairian outfit is wonderful and the tights look much better :) I could go on but needless to say don't need mods to look good. Omg i forgot to mention 2bs, the bottoms make big booty and girls put 2bs with all bouses, tops, and bikini tops it will make them look like the eye candy you need :)
Modders make better hairstyles. Just look at the hairstyle contest and what the devs chose and it shows you why people mod. The devs only choose hairstyles that a boy band in japan would use.
So dead that it's still one of the most popular genres. Spreading such misinformation needs to stop, it belongs 8 years past. The genre itself takes a lot of resources to maintain and keep up, and trust me it'd be even more alive if it wasn't so difficult to make. That's the one limiting factor to mmos being more popular.
The new graphic update made it impossible to look at the game through all the bloom
Compared to what? MOBAs and various shooters rule the show these days, even more so among the younger generation.
Now, I agree that MMORPGs are still pretty popular, but they all suffer from various issues, be it FFXIV, WoW, LA or others. Which may cause a "stuck" feeling, because, as Somnolence pointed out, there aren't many options if you want to play an MMORPG. Every studio seems to be dead set on shooting themselves in the foot.
Calling MMO's "dead" would be inaccurate, but it's also very evident that they're well past their "golden age" or heyday. Back when WoW hit the scene and made it huge, MMO's were *the* thing for people of all ages to play, and rather importantly younger gamers. Today? There's very few teenagers and college kids playing MMO's compared to 15-20 years ago. MMO's are now primarily the home of gamers rapidly approaching (if not already in) middle age, and the "new blood" is heading to other things like MOBA's and mobile games. That's important because it means studios are going to be *very* hesitant to pour the amount of resources you need to make an MMO into a new venture at this point.
I've been watching my friend play World of Warcraft: The War Within Early Access.
The game looks pretty, they also seem to be focusing on the story (the quality of which I don't really know), but I don't really feel the urge to try it out or drop my FFXIV sub for it.
Anyone else try it yet?
I was tempted to try it. I haven't played WoW since I think BfA, but I was an avid player for a long time and started when the game first released. My main hesitation for trying it again is the player base is insanely toxic, you need too many mods to do anything, and the graphics are too cartoony.
I find this is actually a fun observation of social norms - the newer age group is less prone to forming common communities and are not really as into long-term development buit rather prefer the quick fix and rapid growth; consuming and discarding. So MMO players tend to stick with the people they play with over and over versus MOBA players which might form small clicks of 5-8 folks and then just have a massive list of friends they play with once and a while and they just do all content in the roulette system of their game of choice.
I play FFXIV simply BECAUSE it's a subscription game. For $15/mo, it's a damn good one at that.
I've played a lot of MMOs over the years starting from EQ1. One thing I've noticed is that whenever a game switches from a subscription to a Free-to-Play (a.k.a. Pay-to-Win) model, it completely ruins the game EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. without fail.
I refuse to play anything that requires micro-transactions to advance.
You actually make it sound so sad and creepy lol.
I am gonna give it straight to you brother. If you pay monthly sub just to ERP in a video game you are just a big time loser in real life. Now i am going to sanitize myself. I feel dirty for just clicking on this thread.
Yeah but do you want to play a game with a bunch of angry tweens throwing around racist slurs because you're not optimising and they've deluded themselves into thinking they're somehow going to make pro one day by playing ranked? Miss me with that trash. I'm glad League and Valorant exist so we have a cage to put those animals in. Let them be sweaty tryhards over there, away from us decent normal folk. We should all thank the gods they're not playing MMOs.
You know this game is called the FGC retirement home right?
Sweaty abnormal tryhards like myself come here to turn our brains off (easy to do these days with the direction the game has been going in)
The best opinion in this thread omg
