What's funny to me is that, according to a fair number of people, there's apparently no person who's allowed to have any criticisms on the current state of healers. When I described my current issues with healing in normal content, I was informed that I'm not allowed to have an opinion because casual content isn't real and I'm just bad at the game. When I described my issues with healing in regards to savage, I was informed that obviously I don't represent the playerbase since most people don't do savage, and therefore my criticism is invalid. Then I was told that, because I haven't healed an ultimate, my criticism is (once again) not valid, because I... haven't healed an ultimate.

Like, I think the healer strike is a little silly. But I don't understand why anybody who has a single criticism of healing is apparently #1: bad at the game and too stupid to have opinions, or #2: too good at the game, and therefore any changes they want to healing would mean that all of the #1 people would quit the game because they suck. Or something.

Personally, my main issue is that healers are actively punished for having a competent party. When my party is competent and I'm playing dps, I get to do the same rotation I do when my party sucks. When my party is competent and I'm playing tank, I get to do the same rotation I do when my party sucks. When my party is competent and I'm playing healer, I get to press 1 button for 90% of the fight, occasionally reset my dot, and not use 70% of my kit, because I'm already overhealing just using a couple of my ogcds. I'm personally in favor of adding more complexity to healer dps kits. It would make the game more enjoyable for healers who think healing is too boring and easy. The healers who already struggle now weren't really using their dps skills (or most of their kit) in the first place, so they can just continue to not use them, and nothing will change. I don't see why pressing one button for an entire fight is the apparently the peak of game design and should never be changed.

And fwiw, most of my friends who main healer are savage/ultimate raiders, and they feel the same way. We all get excited when we queue into content and our party fails every mech and dies constantly, because that's the only time we actually get to be engaged in content, instead of turning off our brains and pressing 1 button. And clearly, from all the people shitting on other people complaining about healing for being shitty gray parsing casuals (from what I've seen), many people who don't engage in high difficulty content also have problems with the current state of healing.

And btw, saying "go do ultimate/savage if you want healing to be fun" (pressing dosis for 8 minutes is still boring in savage, btw) is... kinda dumb? The game shouldn't be designed to only be enjoyable for a small percentage of players, it should be enjoyable for as many people as possible.

If you have a platform, you're free to use it however you want. But I'm curious about whether some of these people consider their brand impact on the companies that they represent.

FFXIV's PR successes have been in no small part contingent on Yoshi-p's reputation as a game developer. The legends state that he turned this game around by looking at 1.0's failings, listening to player feedback, and playing FFXIV as a fellow gamer. MMOs are ideally 'community-driven' games, so having a development team that authentically feels like a part of that community is a really powerful tool. That's why the perception of being genuine and down-to-earth is so important.

But it doesn't take much to erode a reputation. When you have a media tour influencer suggesting that the development team's 'silence' on healer feedback is driven by disdain for players in the linked clips, and miming slapping the faces of the community when describing Yoshi-p reactions, it creates a bit of dissonance with that 'humble, down-to-earth' perception.

Perhaps it's an accurate representation of the team's views nowadays. These influencers are presumably people selected by SE as ambassadors for their product, so they probably know those attitudes better than we do. But it's a pretty bad look. There's no 'professional code' for being an influencer, but I think higher quality ones generally conduct themselves in a way that enhances the reputation of the product. You get what you pay for.

When someone's livelihood is dependent upon a new game being successful, you can predict with high accuracy what they are going to say. These content creators are not your friends. You should not hate them or harass them. However, know where their loyalties lie. Follow the money.

People consider us NPCs, like duty support. They expect us to make the queue pop, to raise the vuln collectors and to enable everyone else's hero fantasy. Meanwhile we're just pressing one skill most of the time. But who cares what the trust NPC thinks about its rotation, right? Their job is to play the role that is chosen for them, follow the party and shut up.

Hit the nail on the head. It's exposed a pretty ugly side of the community, and I'll tell you right now I'm not talking about the healers who are choosing to strike. I'm shocked at just how much vitriol and pushback the mere IDEA that there could be less healers queuing in Dawntrail is getting. I've seen some people telling healers they would have respected the ideas behind the strike if they only 'acted calm and civil'. ...It's text on the internet, and the actual topic lays it out pretty concisely, so I don't know how much more calm you need.

Oh wait.. it's probably just seeing the word 'strike' and having a knee-jerk reaction over how those pesky healers might inconvenience THEM. The nerve.

I’m like not even mad he read one of my comments on his stream, sighed and then called us all idiots I’m just kinda shocked that someone who is a square enix approved content creator by being constantly invited to the media tours can just be that……….dismissive. Calling healers functional NPC’s just there to fill queues is like next level garbage and I’m used to garbage takes by him. Happy was also way more dismissive than I’m used to him being on issues, the idea of “these problems that have existed since ShB have existed since ShB” is somehow a dismissive statement by these creators is just pathetic

There is a reason why there is no real healer main content creators in this game and their complete lack of presence at the media tour just exasperates these horrid takes by the DPS mains

Game websites are a better alternative for sqare enix's marketing and overall promotion. I doubt these streamers are good ambassadors for square enix; not with those types of comments, that's for sure.

He goes on minutes later to say that Yoshi P has said he has taken too much feedback and he wants devs to do their own thing. Arthars agrees they've listened to raider feedback too much. To me that sounds like he agrees with the strike, because healers (like all jobs now since BLM has fallen) are all victims of raider feedback. Yet another critic who ends up restating the problems of the strike while disowning it.

He's also seemingly another stupid one who is obsessed with the thread creators credentials..Gemina compiled the info from people of all experience levels.

Shout out to the two or so viewers in chat who acknowledged playing hard content doesn't change the fact that healer dps is 1spam and that it wouldn't hurt to just give a few extra dps options to healers.

Most raider-centric communities have heavily echoed that healing is not engaging and current healer-tank design is causing a number of problems in high end fights. (Namely, endless instant death mechanics and body checks - both things a lot of raiders at all skill levels aren't particularly fond of. Doubly so when a death mechanic may not be your fault at all!

Most raiding communities are also wildly up in arms over the new BLM mechanics as it kills nonstandard black mage. A class a lot of raiders respected and liked for its complexity and build options.

We're just as unhappy as the non-raiders here, and I personally won't be queued as a healer in DT. I'll likely only run SCH for premade groups.

same for the people I know. my static is trying to determine roles for the next tier, and literally nobody wants to heal, compared to having 4 people fighting over it in shb. I healed the last tier, and I have zero interest in healing another savage fight in the future. I used to always play healer in df because I hate not having control over whether my party wipes and having long queue times, but atp I'm just going to do trusts for dt because I'm really tired of pressing dosis/glare

I can't think of any instances where outright dismissals of customer feedback are beneficial for a company. Are you suggesting that SE wants influencers to promote the claim that they're 'rejecting' player feedback and don't want to hear it?

I would have thought that the PR line would be:

• they're still in the process of refining the numbers for the next expansion while taking into account player feedback
• nobody really knows what the launch experience is going to be like but it looks pretty hype
• we'll have to wait and see

From a design standpoint, SE does almost all of their stealth nerfs during expansion transitions. With all the discussion that's taken place, I wouldn't be surprised to see some quiet tuning being made in the background to create a shift in viewpoint. Like what happens if you try out a healerless pull in the first dungeon and discover that Bloodwhetting's heal only applies once per weaponskill, as per the actual tooltip? Or you try to solo a boss on WAR and find it tuned to outdamage your self-healing? What happens if 1W3D falls completely flat on launch?

There are plenty of surprises that a developer could quietly setup to take a lot of steam out of this building frustration, and then follow up with a 'by the way, we read your threads, and there's more changes yet to come' accompanied by a quiet smile on the follow-up live letter. Could you imagine the reaction that would have? You would instantly flip over all that frustration into hype, Reversi style. This type of strategy is what makes them really good on the PR side of things.

What I don't really get is why an influencer would go out of their way sabotage that PR line by claiming that Yoshi-p 'hates feedback' and implying that the team has active disdain for the playerbase. And I think the answer to that partially comes down to individual motivations for participating.

There are some more professionally-minded content creators who naturally see media tour events as a means of enhancing the view counts of their videos through the exclusivity of the material, because they're looking at the business end of it. For example, this job video from the tour is so slick and professionally done that SE could easily hire the creator to put together a job trailer for them (and SE should outright hire them, the next time a job action trailer is needed). This is gold dust.

On the other end, you have some 'influencers' who are effectively just standard-issue PF raiders who happen to run a stream in the background (you might say that this is the 'duty support equivalent' for content creation). And it's less about getting out a good video as it is about the perception of clout by 'being buddies' with the dev team. So you have to ask yourself if it's sensible to have such people representing the company when you know that they will overstep their bounds and deride the playerbase off of that boost. I think it just comes down to running brand choices that are a good fit for your desired company image.

Just don't watch their content to be fair, most are only click baiting or doing drama for the views. You have to understand (which I am sure you all do) that the majority of content creators do this for the views not for any real "love" of a specific role in general.

I'm simply holding everyone to the standards we were taught as early as primary school/elementary school. If you're going to speak on a topic, you're supposed to do your research and have an understanding on what you're speaking on, especially if you have a large platform of people who take your word as the truth (i.e. CC's).

Honestly, this is not surprising at all. If there are different classes in any multiplayer game, the DPS and DPS-equivalent mains expect everything to revolve around them. The moment the devs start listening to their feedback also tends to be where the supports stop having fun.

They are covering FF14 news and discuss the newest FF14 stuff. They also answer questions of other players in these q&a videos.
They are not normal players and not journalists. They have influence so they are in between.
A minimum of research can and should be expected from them.

They can tell their own opinion but as an influencer I think there should be a level of responsibility because others blindly follow those opinions.
Success doesn't just give rights and fun it also comes with responsability.

That's just my opinion on this matter but I also hate that whole influencer stuff so what do I know.

I wouldn't hold them to a journalistic standard in that everything should be thoroughly researched down to the most minute details with any personal opinion omitted.

However, the role that a content creator plays, although not explicitly made is that akin to a product presenter (That is essentially where content creation derives from)

So... regardless of you do think or do not think that they should be held to a higher standard is irrelevant. The fact they have a fanbase and a following means that their opinions are inherently more important than just a normal player. You are right they are entitled to espouse their own opinion. But the weight of said opinion for better or worse is not the same. Which is why people are a lot more critical of content creators than they are of traditional opinion.

If you watch the stream, he accuses less talented raiders of ruining the jobs by demanding simplification. I'm just agreeing with him. And tbh there's no alternative. On the one hand I assume you will say "Well there's also story players and they wanted simple healers". But that doesn't make much sense does it? Because story mode is baby content. Imo it's an inconvenient truth, but a portion of raiders are largely responsible for the state of jobs.

Ans to be fair, players can submit feedback that they later regret. So it's ultimately not about damning who gave it. It's moreso about devs over correcting based on feedback, irrespective of where it came from.

If your first inclination on someone's take regarding their interpreted issues on healer is just to look them up, and see which content they have or have not done, and then proceed to shame them on that whilst using it as a means to try and assert authority (rather than to try and actually look at the merit or lack thereof of the perspective) then I would say not much learning has taken place.

If your first inclination on someone's take regarding their interpreted issues on healer is just to look them up, and see which content they have or have not done, and then proceed to shame them on that whilst using it as a means to try and assert authority (rather than to try and actually look at the merit or lack thereof of the perspective) then I would say not much learning has taken place.

But alas, each to their own. He's welcome to do as he wishes, but the fundamental attitude in that behavior is just the same.

Of course he learned since it's against the TOS. Just like you can get banned for cheating on streams, the same most likely applies to shaming specific players using parsing and the like on stream. Hold people accountable; there's no need to do lawyer work for free. If it was me I'd demand money to be a community/social media lawyer.

If content creators decided to pull up the strike OP's logs to ridicule and shame them I hope someone took the time to clip it on twitch, save the vod to pop on youtube and report it to SE so the creator can get a couple days break from ff.

Effectively shaming someone for lack of kills via a website is the exact same practice as shaming someone for parses.

The same can be said about the opposite. Streamer which support it neither are necessarily right.

I'm of the opinion that content creators do not owe anyone anything, and no one owes content creators anything either. They are entitled to their opinion just like everyone else. While I don't necessarily agree with log shaming, I do think experience does have merit. When they were going over job changes, there were some people in a chat I was in that thought the duration increases were stupid because no one uses them. Context matters there because they don't do Savage or Ultimate, so the content they do does not require it. However, many savage and ultimate raiders will tell you that defensive CD's are quite often used at that higher level, so they would have a different opinion.

I could be different from a lot of people, but I don't take anyone's opinion as gospel on face value. I think for all the content creators I watch, there have been takes I agree with, and other takes that I don't. For example, when it comes to tank perspective, I would look to see Xeno's opinion. He plays it at a very high level, so his insight is going to be useful to me to try and understand things I might not think of when I'm tanking. However, I wouldn't put much stock in his take on DPS. Having said that, that doesn't mean everything he says about tanking I automatically assume is correct just because he says so. I'm not naive enough to believe that people don't follow content creators opinions blindly, but I put that on those who do it instead of the content creator.
