I do not care what he says, because they explicitly design the game in ways that prevent you from taking breaks. So he's pretty much just lying for free PR.

The entire housing system as mentioned. Apartments are not a replacement for real housing.
Seasonal event items not being re-earnable in game when the seasonal event comes around again.
Tomestone / loot weekly lockouts.
.x5 patches always being 1 or 2 months after the main patch for no good reason.
Island Sanctuary leveling is time gated and can't be planned out more then two weeks in advance.
Relic weapons, for some reason, are always half way into the expansion rather then be there at / near launch.
And that's what I can think of off the top of my head.
As a og mmo player i say:ff is better than other games right now.for example:wow has make special channel to chat to sell boost for gold and real money, also make og expansions of the game and if u want to play need to pay sub in retail game to play.also make a trading post in game and sell with ingame tokens mounts and other stuffs that not obtainable in game right now.for us take time to take a mount and now it give free to the ppl.so left from this money feeder company and about 2 years now im in FF and every second im in game i love it.i dont from another game like linage2 etcetc cus i need a whole post to wrtiting
Here's the reality. Twelve months of 6.5 is going to decimate subscriber numbers and destroy what little good faith remains from the player base. Most of the people that unsubscribe aren't coming back for Dawntrail. Not with so many other games and MMOs coming out over the next twelve months. SquareEnix needed to show much more than they did at the NA Fanfest. Instead, all we got was the same, tired, formula and every indication that there will not be anything particularly new or groundbreaking in Dawntrail, just more of the same routine, formulaic content. Oh sure the game might look a little prettier but they could have saved themselves millions of dollars and countless hours of development time by just adopting lighting tools and texture packs that modders use anyway. Ultimately, many people will unsubscribe forever. But it's not because you proselytized from your high horse to defend the honor and chastity of SquareEnix. No. Players are going to leave in droves, forever, because they are just simply not having fun - the game has become lobotomized. The content is stagnant, unfulfilling, unrewarding. There is no prospect of it getting any better, and there are simply better games available on the market. You might not agree with me now and that's fine. But if you look at the state of the game in nine months and you still can't see it then I feel sorry for you. You've been tempered by SquareEnix and not even the Porxies can save you.
Your poor attempt at a insult not withstanding. I been in this game since before heavensward and seen the decline of the game and direction they have taken it. That aside. Yes players will come and go but keep in mind that just because 10 people unsub...don't mean square loses. They might gain 20 new people so it means nothing.
This game is popular so there is always new players. Would take a huuuuge chunk of the community to see any real impact and show what you saying. With the servers (dynamis don't count) as busy as they are....I say it's keeping pretty much everyone and still drawing in new people.
End of it tho. Everyone got opinions right. Neither of us are right or wrong. It's just observation. It's on the company to make all this engaging enough to keep current player base and grow it. All we do is pay a sub and play it lol
I think we've witnessed the self-destruction of the JRPG. Final Fantasy used to sit atop a category that included Wild Arms, Grandia, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, Earthbound, Ogre Battle and more.
*blank stare*
...21st Century isn't panning out. Didn't even get to try Dragon Quest X, not even the offline version. Why didn't they localize it?
The offline version of DQX is essentially a streamlined gateway into the later parts of the MMO. I believe it's missing the last 1-3 expansions of online content and when players finish the offline content they're given the option to convert their save into an online account.
As for the reason for not localizing it. Honestly the only excuses I can see them using was that they didn't think western gamers would pay for another game sub between FFXI/FFXIV depending on how far you go back and WoW. However it didn't stop Phantasy Star Universe from still tasting decent success though that game could be played as an offline 1 time purchase retail game or as an MMO with a monthly subscription. I don't really recall DQX having much in the way of voice acting as a majority of the dialogue even from key NPCs during cutscenes was text combined with various characters having their own pitch and tone of text noise as the box filled. Though given how long the title has been out I suppose doing it now would be a huge amount of translating.
To me, FF14 is a weird animal on gaming. Sure, I can let it die and move on, but this game always gets me somehow. The game needs something fresh and I hope they bring it.
What I don´t understand about some users here I will not point my finger because it is rude, but everyone knows who they are, it is why they continue paying the sub to come here just to shit on the game. And please, save the excuse "we like the game but we want them to succeed so we shit on it!". If you know what users I am talking about, they do not want the game to succeed.
But well, this place it is a unmoderated mess anyway.
An offline character doesn't need the newest gear. There is catch up gear in every patch and if someone wants the previous gear for glamour it's still there. X.X5 patches have content that one can do when they come back. Island Sanctuary xp is not time gated, you can earn as much as you want. Players who take breaks can complete relics when they return to the game. It's very much possible to resub in X.55 and complete everything that's been released by that point. Getting the newest loot and experiencing content when it's new are rewards for staying subscribed throughout the year, but not required.
Housing and seasonal events are the only FOMO things you mentioned that prevent people from taking breaks, and with the amount of hate seasonal events get sometimes you arguably don't lose much there either.
If you're unhappy with this game, then unsub. (Clap, clap)
If you're unhappy with this game, then unsub! (Clap, clap)
If you're unhappy with this game and no longer want the same,
If you're unhappy with this game, then unsub! (Clap, clap)
Imagine if we all just silently quit in 1.0 rather than actually complained till they fixed the game
Where would all the e thots be today
The thing is...
We can all agree they 100% ignore forum feedback, right?
Drawing a paralell with real life, how do people get things done when they are being ignored by the ones calling the shots? Riots, strikes, etcetera. Of course you cant do that ingame that's some runescape cringe thing, so in my eyes the only plausible way of actually getting things changed is by hurting their pockets.
Unless you have a better idea.
The devs use to look at the forums and take our feedback then eventually stopped. The devs don't even respond to our feedback anymore here or acknowledge it. They claim they look and listen to our feedback here but i dont really find evidence of them doing that anymore considering lately they seem to do the complete opposite of the feedback provided by the NA/JP/EU communities.
People underestimate their own power. If all those who were unhappy just... stopped paying. Things would change. For FFXIV and gaming in general. Yet we complain and continue to happily pay. Those in charge aren't going to feel bad that we're unhappy with the game so long as we continue to pay them. They're not going to suddenly find their morals and decide it's the right thing to do to listen to the players.
I view staying and complaining as a better option
Even if it does nothing I’ve spent a lot of time with this game and I feel like I should fight for it, if i just quietly leave sure they will miss my sub but then my voice gets replaced by another generic “1 button rotations on healers is too complex” limsa enjoyer and I don’t want that
Even if I’m screaming into the void it feels better than doing nothing
The answer is there are too many trolls on this forum who just want to change the game to benefit themselves and not others.
I mean I’m a legacy player, by default my whole existence is kinda “hey remember when you completely messed us around and have us a pile of trash and now you still give us a sub discount because of it”, of course modern 14 isn’t as bad as legacy but I like to see that the complaint we had against legacy is why we have the game today
Quiet quitting may hit their wallet but then when the game flounders and they need feedback who are they gonna turn to……mainsub, yeah don’t make me laugh
Plus arguing with people online is strangely relaxing
Pro tip for life: you get outta life what you put out into life. In other words be the change you seek.
Leaving doesn't either so /shrug
Honestly, the only reason I'm still consistently subbed is because a lot of my friends still play FFXIV, and I enjoy the raid content. I'd probably have taken extended breaks by now if not for those reasons.
Oh god, I'm getting Silverbane vibes from that Snorky post. And Vel vibes. Ugh.
Nothing against you Snorky, just some bad memories.
Don't know i haven't been on the Japanese forums but yoship has called out the JP community a few times for them sending death threats to some of the devs and to himself and sending things to the JP headquarters. So it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't listen to them either
I’d be more impressed if OP showed an image of destroying their account permanently than just unsubbing which isn’t “forever”.
This is basically me.
I also think all of these "vote with your wallet/stop complaining/go away" posts are disingenuous concern trolling at best. These people don't give a rat's ass if you have a good time or not. They love sloppy game design and want a forum full of uncritical praise for the direction it's been headed.
They want us gone because we point out that modern FFXIV coddled their laziness. They don't like this.
