If we just closed every "not a real problem" thread on this forum, we'd have maybe four topics left, and at least one of them would be complaining about where all the problem threads went.
That's also how Fornite is evolving. Becoming more of a social platform with ingame event than a game. It's proof that the game has gained in popularity (at least for the evenue part). I'm surprised SE hasn't done ingame event yet, because there is a market there.
Personally, I'm not a fan, went once in one of those club by curiosity, felt bored after 5 minutes then left. I don't understand the appeal, but hey, I'm not one to say how you should enjoy your life.
i was working on my house need some thing raised the guy kept saying rp = i let him out of my house and locked the doors lol and blocked him
As much as I support and enjoy venues in game on an almost daily basis now, I think the chat spam about them in places like Limsa and Gridania has definitely gotten out of control. That said, there should be a better way to advertise them in game for those who DO want to see the ads. Ive discovered some great times and people from those ads, but can definitely see how they can be annoying to someone just wanting to play the game more traditionally.
Just going to repost a response I gave on this topic in another thread:
Speaking off my own opinion, I genuinely think the venue community exists to profit off players, not for the sake of RP as some would claim. It was understandable during the peak of the pandemic that venues would crop up to replace actual ones irl but I think a large majority that exist now exist simply because they realized there's gil in it or actual cash if we look at the DJ side of things via Twitch. It just doesn't sit right with me to profit off a community that used to just be free and open to everyone and now there's hardly any kind of non-monetized RP left. It's just sad coming from where it used to be a couple years ago where there was much more variety and now there's only clubs and brothels.
I also think the venue community is up there in terms of toxicity and use the excuse of "RP" to hurt other people but that's an entirely other story.
I don't go to them not my thing and I am a lot older than most of the players probably. I wish the shouts where not every 2 mins though it is becoming annoying. I just go on my way and do what I do so it doesn't bother me to an extent just the shouts can be annoying.
The game has changed so much I guess things change over time. I feel sad that the game has changed from the high fantasy style to modern as it does add real life into the mix and I am here to chill and adventure so that does take a lot away. It is all the caps and trainers too even the NPC's are looking out of place with all the modern glams.
I go to clubs all the time they are fun and enjoyable. They discord good music and the bees knees dance is suited for dancing rockn roll and R&B ... nice :)
Whenever I see Ffxiv venues mentioned, I'm immediately reminded of this....

With some means to stream music via built in VOIP and some actual dancing mini game stuff akin to what we have for performances I could see it having genuine potential and shaking the cringe though.
As someone who has been part of dance clubs in games/online for years without ever getting any, because for most it is about clubbing, it's dance, music, energy and most importantly it doesn't seem to involve drinking.
So the real question is why would the op be the "kind" of person that would think that about others? Is that really the opinion that people can't go to nightclubs without putting out? That is just one step away for blaming someone for being assaulted because they wore the wrong clothes... Come on, it's 2023 let's stop burning witches...
I mean, you can read my previous post about my own thoughts on the venue scene for another perspective on why it isn't the best environment.
Ultimately though, the venue community has a very big reputation for engaging in the sexual side of things. I mean, hell, half the PF ads I see on any given day are for brothels or clubs with courtesans/dancers. It's fine if you personally stay away from that side of things but I assure you it exists and is flourishing. I know of too many men (and some women) who have funded a house for their favorite courtesan due to how much time they spend with them.
They're even shouting in Sharlayan now
I personally think it's really shitty that I have to fix my chat filtering just so I don't see those messages. I'm not the intended audience member for venues or the 'egasm paradises,' and no longer feel comfortable doing even a regular RP thing. But more power to those people who want to; I just wish my shout chat wasn't flooded with stupid club bullshit every 5 minutes I'm in a capital city. Sort of defeats the 'if you don't like it don't look at it' approach when it's in my face constantly. Night club ads suck, is what I'm saying, and I think every single person who shouts for a night club should be banned out of spite.

If you call this roleplay, sure I guess. I wouldn't though. Real RPers don't like this group either.
It's just a bunch of Second Life losers flooding this game right now. Used to be you only really see them on Reddit but now it's spread to every ilm of this game's community.
I'm not changing the title (can I even do that?) - I love the new term 'egasm paradise'. It's just enough "Wtf?" lol
Huh, congrats on your first post. You missed the point though.
I don't blame venues for being entertaining. I blame the people that spam, and the people that push the trade in an environment that doesn't properly support it.
It's closer to something like.. I support the trade legally, but not the back alley.
In response to OP, I generally don't care except for in the case where these adverts explicitly state 18+. It's cringe and offputting to me because it alludes to adult themes. The game is rated T meaning that there are minors playing.
Sure, we can argue that well minors are subject to this IRL. But IRL there's a general moderation because we're in public (ID checking at bars for exemple). Online and in a game there is anonymity and no sure or secure means of making sure someone is 18+.
Add into the mix that there's a program that can synch 18+ mods between anonymous players ?
I'm not into the RP/ERP/venue community so I don't know how far reaching these things are or even how popular they are, but oof no thanks.
Yet, who can blame them ? XIV is the only social/mmo game out there that essentially provides the base models for easy 18+ modding.
I once said this on the forums when female viera were first announced and shown: they look like IMVU. It's really no surprise that these things exist in this game.
In response to the OP, there are plenty of sexual predators in the RP community, and plenty of them are into children.
There was one recently on Materia, where there were leaked chatlogs of this 38yo man chatting up a 14yo boy and inviting him into a known ERP/Sex Discord.
In general people can do whatever they like in game and it won't bother me until its up in my face, venue spam 24/7 advertising 'escorts' and the like.
That is straight up disgusting and anyone who advertises it should be slapped with a lifetime ban from the game and sent back to IMVU where they belong.
The game is now being designed around these players, that do not want to play final fantasy, but want Final Fantasy to become IMVU.
I think it's highly unfortunate and I think the attempts to brush off any concerns as 'puritan thinking' are disingenuous, especially when they often come from the same posters who claim that such players should be allowed to do whatever they want and be left alone only to spend most of their time on the forum trying to chase away anyone who leaves criticism and feedback towards the game.
If there's one good thing that'll come out of internet related laws being tightened over time it'll hopefully be this sort of stuff being taken more seriously and stamped out. As others have said, there's a lot of predatory behaviour going on within venues and exposing strangers to extreme fetishes that they want absolutely nothing to do with. Leaving people to do their own thing in private only works when it's actually private and this stuff is now brazenly posted in public channels as well as the party finder.
They're also often the same individuals who chased off a lot of actual role-players from the game since many role-players wanted to invest in the setting itself, not the heavily modded 'venue' version of the game.
Perhaps most importantly, though, it's not a good look for the game when so many people are actively using Twitter to post explicit screenshots of their heavily modded characters and actively showcasing extreme fetishes. It's very common these days and I know people who refuse to touch FFXIV because of its increasingly controversial reputation.
I mean, I don't RP or ERP so I don't understand this thread at all. What others do with their time has no bearing on what I experience and choose to do in game.
If it doesn't impact you, fair enough, yet some of us do role-play and so it does effect us when this sort of thing ends up being what passes for 'role-play' within the community. If it was truly out of sight and out of mind then it'd be easier to dismiss. Just like it'd be easier to dismiss if the game wasn't increasingly catering to venue goers at the expense of those of us who enjoy other aspects of the game.
I don't understand this argument either given nearly all new content is battle-oriented for the most part. Every patch we see is almost all "other aspects of the game" with maybe a few cosmetics or house items that people can enjoy whether they ERP or not.
Outside of these posts, after 1000 hours of gameplay I haven't encountered this issue once - maybe because I don't look for it.
I do understand that perhaps if you RP you will run into it a bit more - but you can simply not join those guilds or go to those houses. In ESO where I created an RP guild that became a full time job to create storylines for (but is still active after over 3 years, though I handed over GM), there were ERP guilds. I actually accidentally joined an ERP guild based on Dibella (Goddess of Art, Friendship, and Sex) that was advertised as friendship, but when I went to RP they shared that all RP ends with public orgies with "real women" *snicker*. I let them know they were all nice people but not the environment I was seeking and left. There are a fair number of ERP guilds in ESO and their existance didn't scar me, make me witch-hunt for possible ERP with minors, or afraid to RP elsewhere.
Oh please, stop trying to label all ERPers and modders as pedophiles or people who support pedophelia. It's gross and offensive.
The game has literally nothing to do with the erp scene. If youre going to pin the blame on anything then actually dump some stat points into your accuracy rating because the actual culprit for the degeneracy are the mods and the modding community.
Theyre the ones going around making visual mods to overly sexuliaze your characters, altering the game's artistic style to replicate the waifu aesthetic as well as making custom animations for it.
One of the biggest problems with this game has always been its own community.
Even then - none of this impacts me. If my character is running around their screen looking weird or naked, that's their problem lol.
Now if they were to send me screenshots or whisper me or something sexual that would impact me, I can just report them. *shrug*
I'm sure if we just remove all the mods from the game and the plugins, people will go from venues/erp/social hanging out straight to doing ultimates right ? that's how it works ? you just change the entire community and force them to do content while removing the only thing they like in the game, surely that'll work

xD I'm sorry Atelier it's just easy to pick on this comment.
Ah yes, providing hats for Vieras and Hroth is definitely sexual in nature.
Providing recolors of already in game items is definitely sexual in nature.
Providing vfx redesigns of class skills is definitely sexual in nature.
Providing UI redesigns so it doesn't look as horrendous is definitely sexual in nature.
Recoloring mounts is definitely sexual in nature.
Yep.
If we're gonna throw people under a bus, at least recognize that there are more than just 18+ mods that people make.
