I've learned to appreciate being able to block people in chat because of this.
Bro get over it.
Ya'll have a rep for a reason cause of Ul'Dah + the Waking Sands and what goes down in those two places. No other server has literal crowds standing around for the exact purpose of ERP in the way that Balmung does and you're more than welcome to tour the NA servers to confirm that. Nightclubs in all servers? Absolutely. Having the equivalent of a brothel in two populated areas of the game? Nah that's a you thing.
I'll extend to you the same invitation I put forth earlier in this thread to join the discord I'm a part of. We actually do plot themed RP along with random one offs (still actual RP). In fact we are finishing a major plot over the course of the next week. Feel free to message me in game (along with anyone else who might be interested), I'll be online tomorrow and Friday at 9 pm EST and Saturday at 7 pm EST (can be earlier if requested) to chat/invite link drop.
I am absolutely not dropping a discord link in a public forum, sorry! I wish I could but... there's too much risk lol.
So, I assume you've been actively engaged in looking for ERP on Balmung in Ul'Dah? How else can you be so sure about it?
I have <glances down at spreadsheet> five alts on Balmung and aside from a single comment (NOT in the Quicksand ... btw the "Waking Sands" is in Vesper Bay) over the last 6 or 7 years, I've never been asked to join in an ERP session nor noted anything except random /shout chatter that disappears as soon as I leave the Ruby Road. Since I spend a bit of time coming and going through the Quicksand (free port to Ul'dah ... thank you login token) I note that the crowds are smaller than the ones by the Aetheryte in Limsa on Gilgamesh.
I suspect that the "rep" is mumbled in whispered breaths by players on every other server by those without actual knowledge.
I've been going to a few nightclubs in game recently, just to make more friends.
Some won't let me in (cos apparently I am a paedo as I play a Lala), but the ones that have let me in have been fun. Lots of conversations.
Cafes seem to be the prime RP for me, though. So chilled, and there are a couple of cafes on my DC that get some good foot traffic.
We have a "reputation" because reddit and the forums, in the early days of ARR, all went "haha 'roleplay', suuuuure" and it's snowballed from there because non-erp can't just HAPPEN in a game, it's always erp right?!
I've been playing since 2.0 opened, on Balmung, so if you're going to try to pin it on anyone, it's going to be pinned on everyone else for what wasn't ever a problem on my own server. It was NEVER a problem until all the other servers made alts here to MAKE the server that, and the problem has only gotten worse because of the wanderers and travelers coming here going "haha so where's the erp in shout."
Pretty much.
Honestly, these shouts and PF clogging are even more annoying than RMT ads
At least RMT usually keep their spam isolated in /say around a main aether in town.
I don't judge those behaviors either, but I do judge annoyances.
I'm leaving the disgustingly extroverted Mateus in 4 days to Dynamis DC because of it.
No thank you, loud annoying needy people be gone.
Dynamis will have exactly the same problem the second housing opens up. Nothing is going to change unless SE cracks down on it, which is doubtful. Really all anyone can do is report the spammers and hope something comes of it.
Especially on the weekends the spam gets so bad it can become difficult to even follow a conversation in a capital city because of the constant barrage of gigantic, multi-paragraph club ads. Then there's the Other tab of PF which has been ruined for anything non-club related because the clubs all apparently need five listings each, drowning out anything else. It has really gotten out of hand.
How people get their rocks off in private is their own business but the rest of the community shouldn't have to suffer for it.
Im sure it will but at least won't be immediate. It took Goblin a good year or 2 to get to that level. Even now anything less than what's on Mateus & Balmung should be.... fine.
All I need is one more year of a somewhat Introverted server lol. 10+ years, about time to quit :P
Also, yes, exactly, ffs lol
Everywhere on NA is infested with it, check out Primal too sometime.
As far as the others and the points made, no I don't personally visit Balmung in my free time but I watch friends go on stream and see the tells that are sent to them. *shrug*
If you haven't had that experience, cool I guess. I'm glad that you've avoided being harassed. Doesn't mean others haven't and also haven't been solicited out of nowhere by random people. Hell, I was on Zalera for a few months and got hit on out of nowhere when in major cities on more than one occasion. It is what it is I guess.
I am aware yes :p but like I said one out of 100 goers win that gil. most of people go there because they want to be there for reasons that dont include getting gil from my perspective. and even if it was the main reason people go there, other venues could do the same "yeah come visit my cafe blabla, we'll give away hella gil" you could even fit that in RP narative.
and yeah people standing around /beekneeing is boring to me, but we're not talking about me here, we're talking about other people. but afaik people who stand afk dancing have conversations in /tell so maybe its not as boring for them.
and about last part, people can complain all they want but ultimately they're not doing anything to change the state of their complaint subject. like I said, no one's stopping anyone from opening a tea house or cafe or whatever.
you could do it for example, and there were quiet a few people who had interest in it, so they'd visit your place right? so what exactly is an issue, if the interest is there.
like clearly, there're plenty of people who want "cafe-RP hubs", I've even seen few of those in game, been in two, they exist, people just dont visit those as much, and then said people complain that "cafe RP is dead" which makes little sense to me.
I'm at least 95% sure that all those tells are coming from Wanderers and Travelers, and the 5% from Balmung are likely alts of people who wouldn't be caught dead on "the erp server" on their main or people who have heard so much about the crap reputation that other people gave us for no friggin reason so they made their main there to be a jerk, since most actual rpers have the common decency to not just proposition random people. So why is it Balmung's fault? That's like going to someone else's house, pooping on their floor in plain view of every other guest, and then going "EW THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE POOP ON THE FLOOR DO YOU SEE THAT???" and blaming it on the people who live there. Zalera also =/= Balmung, so if you're going to start blaming Balmung for things that happen on Zalera, there's a problem. If y'all would stop blaming us for everything, the "reputation" that we got from everyone else going "haha ew 'rp' uh huh" for a decade would finally go the heck away and we'd stop having sex tourists harassing people who don't want the harassment on Balmung either.
Stop being a part of the problem. Thanks for coming to my very annoyed TED talk.
To keep this on topic and not directed at who I quoted, stop the annoying multi-line ads, stop spamming the PF with multiple entries for your nightclub.
I didn't read most of that, just gonna be honest. Ultimately your opinion isn't going to change mine but if you don't agree with me that's fine too. The rep has existed for much longer than I've been in the game and I've seen it first hand from Balmung residents (alts or not, that's not really my problem). Can't change my opinion when I've seen it with my own eyes.
Clean up the server then and offer more than a stereotype/the reputation and maybe people won't feel a need to go there just for that. It really seems like the residents are fine with it when I see people/friends of mine streaming there and giving gil to them for doing random things: ranging from meme worthy to actual ERP. Telling me off won't fix the actual problem nor do I even go there on any sort of regular basis so what exactly will it accomplish?
Both sides need to be accountable, it's not just tourists. Stop encouraging the problem to continue as well. I'm down to just drop the topic though since I feel like we're just gonna go back and forth with no resolution and we both have better things to do than that.
It might be more of an NA problem but we definitely get 3+ ads on venues frequently with PF pages running into the 4+ range (at least on Aether). Since ours gets so long people feel a need to multi-post to keep their ads relevant and it also really makes it hard for any places that don't follow the same idea to thrive. I'll try to grab a screen sometime but not sure how much I can really show with needing to keep names and such hidden on here.
Let's just who isn't the place's owner or the FC master, will get an account strike (shout or pf, if reported) and this thing will solve in a matter of minutes.
Ah nice. So, I could track down a nightclub in PF, and send out random shouts in towns getting a strike against the FC master, even if I didn't know the FC master?
Seems ripe for abuse that does.
Plus, why does it matter if these people are shouting something? Assume they are not spamming.
You can easily ignore them. Advertisements make the world come alive. Although, I suppose a lot of people here seem to want a dead zone chat.
Probably you did read too fast. If you run the PF or do the shouts and you aren't the owner, you get it, not him/her.
But, on second thought, that is not much feasible. Because owning a place with multiple people inside to help you, makes you have not much room to go around sending shouts. Probably you still can have your PF up but your time will be likely into your place to coordinate everyone's efforts.
Edit:
Let's just don't forget the OP is about all that spam. I agree about multiple pf entries for the same place are cluttering, unnecessary, and also are detrimental to the little venues without any staff than the owner, that probably did put all her/his effort to have it to just have fun this way, to find her/his place desert because it is a drop in the ocean on 1,000 ads of the ONE big venue.
And shout spam is terrible too. As if hammering my chat log with your damned place will automatically have me get there. If you spam your place in my face, I probably will know what place I never will want to go. You can giveaway 1 billion Gil but you don't see me there.
Except they aren't cause chat is in a corner of the screen and the color of shout chat catches my eye. Also, I use Shout Chat to watch for hunt trains, other stuff. I don't want a dead zone chat, I want a chat filled with people talking, not unskippable ads. I get enough of those in youtube.
Again, not a single Pro-Nightclub post here has even suggested any kind of solution to the Big Nightclubs cluttering PF with THE SAME ADS FOR THREE OR FOUR ENTRIES, the SPAM IN SHOUT CHAT, or anythign else I made this thread for. I've got no issues with you guys liking them. Just want the spam to stop.
Then I want the shout spam for hunt trains and people searching for parties to stop.
I don't enjoy that part of the game, and therefore it shouldn't clog up my feed because only stuff I want to see should be there.
I mean, that's the argument that you are making. I'll make the same one. It's a ridiculous argument, isn't it ?
Last weekend on Primal there were 81 listings in the "Other" category in Party Finder. 78 of those listings were for venues or 1-on-1 "R18+" RP. Of those 78, about 40 were duplicates of an existing listing or otherwise advertising the same venue. Literally more than half. One venue had EIGHT identical listings.
It has gotten completely out of hand. I appreciate that players should have a way to find social events and that necessitates some level of promotion. But let's call this what it is: spam.
At the bare minimum, duplicate advertisements should be considered a prohibited activity just as all other forms of spam and nuisance behaviour are. Advertisements in public chat channels should also be either prohibited or more strictly limited. Ideally I'd like to see the addition of something specifically for event promotion such as a social/RP category in Party Finder or even a separate noticeboard system entirely.
iirc it's reportable for repeats for spam. Like, if you get close to the hour mark for the PF to be up, make a new one and take down the old. That's fine. I wouldn't be frustrated over that. It would keep the PF clean. I don't want people getting their account actioned, but I do think there needs to be warnings to people or FC leaders/owners on not spamming up PF with repeat ads, especially on FC owners/leads who are probably paying the PF people with gil to advertise (as some do - they shouldn't be the ones in trouble.)
That or SE needs to expand how many people can fit on my blacklist. It's full and it's mostly PF spammers with their crappy nightclub ads instead of how it was with jerks from roulettes that I don't want to encounter again or people I don't like.
It is frustrating enough to be in cities and have the nightclub/brothels being advertised repeatedly via SHOUT, but the other night there were several players from other servers doing this type of advertising in the housing areas. That is just not cool. IRL there are things you might do in town that you do not do in quiet neighborhoods, especially if you are not from the area. When my friend politely asked one of the advertisers via a tell to please do this elsewhere other than the housing area, he was directed to talk to the “boss” of the dance club “managers” about it. I cracked up. They have “jobs” like this (boss, manager, advertisers) for a virtual, make believe nightclub/prostitution-style ring. It did not bother me as much as this just made me laugh.
I wonder is this a DC specific issue? On Light you also have some people advertising their clubs but it's really just now and then and doesn't bother me at all but I totally could understand that if it was actually spammed every 2 minutes with
the party finder being full of their listings.
