As an American I agree with this sentiment 100%. Why would an international company cater to our holidays? Makes no sense for them to do it.

Yea they should just delay the patch by a week for the americans, I'm sure nobody would mind.
You know, I believe we can petition Square Enix about this. How about this for everyone to sign?
"We, the undersigned, demand that any maintenance to the North American servers be delayed if they are scheduled to occur on a Major US Holiday. We are more than willing to allow the Rest of the World to have a new patch a week before we do in order to accommodate the small number of players in North America who are upset about holiday patch cycles."

You're welcome :)
Oh, and that's ignoring what other people have brought up about how the "USA" servers include a sizable number of people from Canada and the entirety of South America, meaning the actual "American" population is even significantly smaller in comparison.

WHAT IF I TOLD YOU, Yoshi-P was trying to do Americans a favour by specifically scheduling the maintenance on a day where they'd be out celebrating and doing other things anyway?
The American data servers have 12,701,623 of the 26,182,117 total characters in the game. That is nearly half the characters (48.512589719158% to be exact). While this is not an indicator of which country in the data center's region has the most players it still shows that it is the larges population for the game.
although it seems US people are the most offended, it has obviously escaped notice that this affects 100% of the player base, this includes everyone with a day off, who is taking a vacation, who is home sick etc...
surely a multinational company such as SE should poll their ENTIRE data base to make sure no one is off and might be adversely affected by this patch. /s
honestly, the lengths some will go to try and show how they deserve special attention is pretty amazing.
My only thing with Mondays is that a lot of US National Holidays (i.e. when banks are closed) are on Mondays no matter what.
Martin Luther King Jr Day - Always Monday
George Washington's Birthday - Always Monday
Memorial Day - Always Monday
Labor Day - Always Monday
Then the ones that fall on either a Sunday or Monday are observed on Monday. This year that'd be Independence Day, Juneteenth, and Christmas. There's not a single one on Tuesday this year. Next year again, there are 7 holidays observed on Mondays, and only one on a Tuesday. And there's not one on a Wednesday either this year or next... It's not entitlement, it's "I get these certain days where I don't have to work when I normally would, I would like to do something I enjoy while having that day off and this is what I currently enjoy -- and it's planned such that has the most opportunity to not allow that to happen"
i see why people are upset but think of it as a good time to try a different game, unfortunately i still have to work so i guess it doesn't even effect me lol
The world does not revolve around the USA, and I say this as an American.
Square usually seems to do 24H patches on Mondays since Tuesday's are the weekly reset.
They are just following the schedule they always have.
This is a Japanese game my dude.
They don't care about our dumb holidays.
Putting aside the matter of 24h hours maintenance and when we should have it. I'd prefer if they tried to have a shorter maintenance schedule in general.
I prefer longer and less often over shorter and more frequent.
For the past two years, my area (and I mean my town, neighborhood, community) does most of our Independence Day celebrations NOT on the day proper. In 2021, July 4th was a Sunday. Some people have work on Monday. Parties, fireworks, etc were all done on Saturday. This year, people go to work tomorrow. Saturday and Sunday were better days. No need to stay up late and wake up early the next day if we celebrate on the 2nd or 3rd.
The town did their celebration on Sunday night. Neighborhood did their block parties and all that on Saturday night. If it is anything like last year, some people will light off fireworks from their backyard at dusk (and probably throughout the night). But, the big things are already done here. Today is essentially "my day off." I'll just go do something else. I've already "peopled" and I'm "peopled out." I wouldn't have minded spending some of my day off in-game. I've already "peopled" and I'm "peopled out."
I'm celebrating 4th of July with Mexican Pizza and Coca-Cola. Discuss.
4th is over. It's the 5th now.

I went out and had fun once.
It was terrible.
Yeah I don't understand why people are acting like they actively chose a holiday to perform maintenance on. The holiday just happened to land on a day that's already typically used for long maintenance. It's unfortunate, but it certainly wasn't malicious or careless.
"we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause"
"look forward to it!"
"Pray return to the Waking Sands at your earliest convenience"
I seriously ass-u-me'd that maintenance would start tomorrow because of the holiday. Then I tried to log in. I've been playing MMO's since 1995 and I've never come across this before.
Keep in mind that, if they don't change this policy, it will happen next year as well, as the 4th will be on a Tuesday.
