Kupo its not too bad don't stress my friend. It is time to enjoy life with a cold one and some good food! The game will be there when we get back ^_^ enjoy some good times kupo <3
Kupo!
No stress here, I'll have alternatives for entertainment. However, this isn't the first time they've done this, scheduled a long maintenance corresponding to a major holiday, and I think a little light chiding over this poor customer service practice is more than fair.

Poor customer service because the game is gonna be down when people want to be loud with fireworks, probably drink at BBQs/parties with friends, and generally a lot of people stepping away from their computers?
Honestly seems like good timing, personally.

Unhappy with how they implemented Mahjong? -> http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/381358-Mahjong-is-the-most-depressing-mini-game-you-ve-added-to-XIV
I imagine there are many ways people celebrate holidays. For some, I'm sure the entire day will be consumed with celebratory actions. For others, I imagine they will have extra free time between holiday activities. Finally, for some, they might not celebrate at all and just enjoy the day off however they want. So yes, I think the better customer service approach would be to consider major holidays of their subscriber base for scheduled maintenance patches.
Note: Taking advice from a players alt, is like taking advice from a voice in a dark room. Criticism is a two way street remember that!!

Cause updates are always on mondays for patches like this no matter what is going on where ever in the world?
Go have some BBQ while you're taking a break for the day. It's not gonna kill you.

And given that this is scheduled maintenance, they couldn't adopt a more customer-friendly practice of not scheduling them on a day that coincides with a big holiday for a large portion of their player base? Hardly the first time they've done this, and won't be the last I'm sure. But clearly, I'm the jerk for calling them out on this.![]()
