That's a really good suggestion, I'm going to check Faerie later tonight. I have had a suspicion this would be coming up on us.

I'm curious, have they ever mentioned anything about shell FC's in the past? I have to imagine it's something they'd dislike, given solo shells in particular should be impossible to do given the system and directly go against the social aspect of an FC, to me at least.

Lodestone will have this info, it's how I found that my own server is flooded with dead/shell FC's.

That being said, "Setting up a Free Company for the explicit intention of purchasing a personal house in a Free Company ward is a violation of the ToS" and "Owning more than one service account for the purposes of circumventing the one per service account restriction on housing is a violation of the ToS, and will result in the permanent suspension of all service accounts involved".

I just created one. We had a whopping 8 lots left, 100+ on each one. And the FC districts have so many houses that weren't even bidded on, that's my best bet getting one.

This is so wrong it's not even funny. If you want a private fc, go make one. You'll probably get a house easier that way.

I don't think SE has ever said anything about shell FCs so we have no way of knowing how they feel about them. They're far more of a player concern, just like the market bots.

I suppose I should clarify my personal feelings about the shell FCs here. I wish they were not necessary for a player to get a house for personal use. If someone has gotten fed up with the housing system and chooses to make a single shell FC for purposes of getting a single house for personal use, more power to them for going to the extra effort to get something they want. The system is intended to allow us to have one personal and one FC house per world so a shell FC is within the spirit and intent of the rules.

My objection to the shell FCs is specific to the workshop farmers that have multiple houses per world and the resellers. The first is clearly outside of the intent and spirit of the rules though not an actual ToS violation. The second is a straight ToS violation made clear when SE posted the updated Prohibited Activities policy.

You might wish those were covered in the ToS but they aren't. Players are allowed to have multiple service accounts. One paid account is not going to be denied access to features that another paid service account has just because a player has more than one service account.

Let's stop making up ways to try to get other players in trouble and focus on the system designed, controlled by SE, that is at the heart of the housing situation. Unless SE addresses that or the player base takes a massive dip in population, there's always going to be players cut out of the system by SE's design.

I'm not going to be part of the problem, house be damned. Change the ToS to clean out the landlords and shells, really not that hard. The RMT'ers are (mostly) gone, now it's time the shells get cleared out too.

It wont change any of the problems. Even if your wishfull thinking would be come true some day it wont do anything to cover the demand.

And before you gonna start about the Lucis One. Nah not even those 60 plots or how much there are in reality will cover the needs of 2-3k People who want to participate in Housing.
Nothing. That should even get into your Lala head at least for your own sanity.

Does it really matter whether the player is getting their house as a personal plot or as a FC plot via shell FC? It's still a single plot taken by a single player as long as they buy no others.

Also in a strange way, players turning to shell FCs may help lead to a solution. If SE sees a significant number of players using them to get access to houses for personal use (diverting the intended purpose of FCs), it may encourage them to address the supply problem. Otherwise trying to reserve houses for FC use will become pointless as players use shell FCs to get houses for personal use regardless.

Again, we need to stop blaming and trying to punish other players for trying to engage with the content. This is on SE for for creating an inadequate system when they could have learned from other MMOs that already had player housing at the time ARR was being developed.

After re-reading this thread, I think I'm gonna have to add some people to ignore. Might as well before they decide to target me, if this is how they treat people like the OP.

It's one thing to have an opinion that's different from others. It's another to berate, belittle, and insult someone and resort to name-calling right off the bat just because you don't like theirs. We are encouraged to come here to share our feedback with the devs. I'm sorry you don't like seeing it, but you can at least be civil. If you can't do that, I don't have the time or patience to talk to you. One can have a discussion without resorting to the aforementioned turn-offs...

Sheesh, what's wrong with just speaking out to Square Enix and wanting a healthy discussion on the housing situation.

It doesn't. It's a bit strange why that person put it in quotes without explaining why they were doing so. I think they were trying to give an example of what they wished SE would say.

However, those quotes are clearly not official communication from the dev team in any shape or form. You can tell by the language surrounding owning more than one service account. Not only is it perfectly fine to own more than one service account from SE's point of view, it's probably encouraged.

I had a feeling that was a possibility of what they were going for. Their wording is pretty misleading, and they might want to consider changing it to make it more clear, in my opinion. (Assuming they were simply stating what they wanted the system to be.)

I cannot state enough how this is the mentality we need to have towards housing. All the fault for everything going wrong with housing is on SE and we need to stop coming up with ways to punish players for doing things within the rules SE put in place. Focus all the ire on those responsible for the current decisions towards housing and their refusal to innovate and stubbornly continue on a path that has been failing for years.
