There has never been, nor will be, a situation where that would ever be true, just sayian, super sayian... ;)
Weeeeell.....housing for all just isn't in the cards, so things already aren't fair. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But yeah, I wouldn't trust SE to implement a more involved system that ensured funds were redeposited without introducing more bugs. I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm ready for the next round of bidding to start.
Kudos to those who get a free house.
What SE should do is those who get the house free could not decorate it til they pay the whole thing
This is why we can't have things..
People are on arms because some got compensated with free 50m, and others didn't...
Because the compensation has nothing to do with how long it took you to earn the gil in the first place.
The compensation is for players being left on hold for a month trying to find out whether or not they get the plot. That amount of time was the same for all affected players.
Moronic take.
This would only be a valid point of view if there were enough houses for every player to purchase one, and a select few were stuck waiting a couple weeks. But this is not what happened, there is still a majority of players that do not have a house that want one, mean while you are getting one for free and self righteously stating you deserve it for waiting a couple weeks while other lottery winners didn't.
With the state of the game overall (homogenization of classes, long waits for content and you don't get much, banning people for cosmetic mods, etc.) and now this joke of a solution to their incompetence when it came to housing (giving people free homes when the housing system is already quite cancerous), I don't really have much faith in these developers anymore.
It's a take. Your opinion is allowed to differ.
Why would they force it? It's free forced subscriptions for them.
I couldn't believe this when I read it. I even remember responding to a player who was wondering if players would potentially get a free house out of this, and I said no effin way that's happening.
...
...
I don't even know what they're thinking. I mean, a certain amount of compensation for their screw up is in order, but a free friggin plot? And using the honor system to rely on players to do the right thing?
I am really interested in how much gil gets poured into that NPC from the players.
Let's be real here, people. This is an issue affecting, what, maybe a couple thousand players max across the entire game? It's hardly a big deal.
"But they get a free house!!" It's just gil. It practically rains from the sky as is.
This was the only logical and inevitable conclusion, with a simple "sorry for the inconvenience." I ain't even effected here, and I still say this is fair, for all the players that took their gil after the glitched results, before there was ever any word of "yeah, shit's broken, hold tight while we fix things."
I read this a little differently; that they were trying to say that continuing with the purchase of a house you had received a refund for was voluntary, and paying the NPC would allow you to return that refund so you could complete the purchase if you still wanted to - but you didn't have to complete the purchase.
Wait, I’m sorry are we now complaining that Square is being too accommodating to those impacted by the bug.
What is wrong with these forums…
For all the talks about people being egoistical and wont deposit the money back, I can still see there will be people who do that. Somewhere in Eorzea a cute lalafell had taken their refund, feels bad about it and decides to return the money. Not the full amount as they have bought stuffs with it but returns all they have left minus consumables money. Be like cute lalafell.
I'm a little confused. I see the value in the intended gold sink for the game economy, but what possible incentive would somehow have to donate thier refund if they ended up getting a house anyway? I think you gotta offer the players something or they just won't bother.
I think even something as simple as exclusive title like "Generous Donator" would be enough for people, though. (I think mounts or pets would be a bad idea, since people get really irate about pets or mounts that are super exclusive and impossible to ever get.)
the npc will collect your bid money and grant you the house; if you don't repay the gil, you won't get the house. I think the patch number needs to be corrected. I'm hoping that number is 6.1.2 instead of 6.2.
Can you imagine the outrage that is going to happen if this is a giant misunderstanding and people won't be getting free houses?
My popcorn is on standby. :x
It's pure and simple jealousy.
"Why yes, I do consider the free housing as compensation for the lottery bug and will accept it and move on. How could you tell?"

When I get a house I wassss going to build an airship/sub and make the exterior myself, but because of the housing zero I ended up buying the exterior for 3 million. I would have saved it and sold others I had made resulting lost profits of around 50 million gil. You don't understand the MB. Being first makes all the difference in who has 1000 or who has 1,000,000 gil. First to make exteriors is huge at 3 million a pop selling ten is 30 million gil do you understand this? If more people make the exterior what happens to the price? So the few extra weeks makes them millions and when I finally get to the board I make 1000's that's the difference .... and I quote "time is money" Who's take is moronic?
Yeah, I just think upsetting the people who care about exclusive titles is a better idea than upsetting the people who care about exclusive mounts or pets. Since I think the intended goal is to remove gold from circulation, you gotta give players a reason to.
Though another option could be to reward people with a big fat stack of moogle tomestones that you could use to buy mounts or pets that could be obtained elsewhere.
I don't think that's the goal. It's purpose is more likely to be as a way assuage the guilt some would have if they had a house for free.
Nothing more is needed than the NPC say "thank you very much".
Edit: I'd love for the NPC to be attached to the orphanage in Idyllshire, and a Miqitte'n be the one to say thank you. Nothing in return but a smile. (And also something unlocked later so everyone could experience for any amount of gil.)
This is totally a Japanese Culture vs. Western Culture thing.
Japan will give the money out of guilt.
West will give the money but they need something in return, like an Achievement. Otherwise why would they?
EDIT: In response to your edit, very wholesome. Make the M'kitten take donations for that Children's Hospital in U'ldah that only appears once a year.
Na it's not. Heaps of people on the JP forums saying they will keep it, with likes. And heaps of people on Reddit saying they will hand it back or they would feel guilty.
I dont think you can generalise it as a west vs east thing - without it just being a generalisation.
Me... I will hand a large chunk of it to sprouts, to help them on their journey.
I have a question can people affected by the zero bug still get refunds or is the system locked down at the moment?
Weebs need to stop idolizing the Japanese community.
There are plenty of examples where JP acts the same as their NA/EU counterparts if not worse:
1. Since this is related to housing, people to this day claim that buying out wards/house hoarding/shell FCs is a NA/EU thing. The honorable JP would never do such a thing. Lodestone data shows that JP has a similar amount of bought out wards/house hoarding and shell FCs.
2. Some of the most popular JP house designers own multiple houses. But yet NA/EU people don't seem to have a problem with that.
3. Some NA people claim that NA is loud and toxic - JP can equally be toxic with community blacklists to ostracize and bully people.
I hope SE publishes the statistics of who returned the gil and includes things like region etc
tldr: There are good and bad people in all countries. Stop idolizing Japanese culture.
