The desynthesis question was my favorite as now we will no longer have to level it up after 5.1
Agreed. Other MMOs don't even get things like this where the developers take their time to answer questions and give info. Yet Yoshi does it despite all the harsh language and whining, which I'm sure they have to sift through. I didn't hear everything I wanted but so much of the complaining seems like children throwing a tantrum because they didn't get the exact answers they wanted.
I enjoyed the letter though it also made me anticipate the next one for that juicy crafter/gather and NeiR info. As a Tank and Healer I'm content with them currently enjoying them more now than in previous expansions so I didn't really care if they spoke much on them, I'll just be hopefully pleasantly surprised when changes do come.
This were one of the best live letters in a long time!
I mean, IRL I have paid $200+ for a well designed dress, I know this is an unpopular opinion, but even though this outfit would be entirely digital I am fine with paying 20 bucks for a beautifully designed outfit as designing beautiful clothing isn't cheap and I gladly pay premium to have great looking gear. Would I be happier if it wasn't mogstation and if tome gear this tier didn't look so bad for casters you basically NEED to glam (seriously, who thought it was a good idea to give casters MAIL gear?!?)? Sure I would! Would love to be able to buy it with gil instead of hard cash as Gil is a resource I am fat on, while real money, not so much as I am currently studying. I would be even happier if they implemented something like WoW tokens to allow me to pay my playtime with Gil as well (plz?).
I didn’t have very high expectations honestly so I can’t say I’m disappointed.
It was really disheartening to see how the treated they question about Bard’s feeling like they don’t have much real ‘support’ left (the defining point of job according to SE and lore) though, they basically just groaned, said something about how it has good DPS, then moved on as if it was a pointless question. And honestly, maybe it’s a little harsh but I don’t believe their addendum about ‘we’re listening to player feedback for a second. Because if they were they would’ve realised nobody was asking for Bard to become a high DPS / low utility job in the first place and I’m pretty sure most people didn't start playing Bard to be the top DPS anyway (at least I didnt’). The worst part was that I was completely expecting them to say ‘Bard has high DPS so it can’t get any more support’, but it didn’t feel any less dismissive watching them do it live.
I’m not saying they should be more ‘considerate’, but at the same time it sucks to see them be completely dismissive of a question that didn’t even address the concern the majority of Bards have (identity issues). Had they even just said like, ‘we understand people feel like Bard has lost its identity/support/defining abilities, but we feel satisfied with how it is right now’ - or something along those lines - it would’ve at least been much easier to swallow
Ultimately, it felt like they talked about Bard because they felt they ‘had to’, not because they wanted to address anyone’s concerns. And I can see why it would feel like that in regards to other questions too
Bard always had an identity crisis. Bard always had those utility skills and in Stormblood even more DPS than Machinist (the other phys. ranged DPS lower in DPS and almost nothing contributing to the group).
In Heavensward Bard turned into a caster being the most clunky job ever.
Im wondering, why they dont change bard into a second support instead so bards can support the group like dancers do. Maybe they miss feedback, they might change their mind?
edit:
Also about healers, I doubt they will do any major changes in 5.x. I actually expect (or at least hope for) a revamp of the healer jobs. I do not want to miss the chance to see new "ways" of healing the party. Necromancer (as a Healer), Melee Healer or actually fix the gameplay of current healers and add a bit more spice to their dps kits. Maybe they'll come up with better ideas by 6.0...
i glamour things all the time, so this resentment (for lack of a less dramatic word) of being "forced" to glamour seems totally upside down to me. I have set outfits and the appearance of "this tier" doesn't even matter, unless it's nice enough that I want to use it.
And considering how much some people complain about "nothing but robes" for mages... mail is an interesting change, and it doesn't stray that far from normal robes either. I think it looks better in the healer colour scheme, but still.
When we have freedom to glamour any past outfits onto our current equipment, I think it's more important to work in some different and unusual designs to give people more choice. Not every tier, but some of the time.
I too glam most of the time, however, when the gear we are "supposed" to wear breaks class fantasy to such an extreme as a caster wearing mail, I start to question things. It really seems more like something that should be a glam for those who want it rather than something to glam upon.
The gear designers can't win then. Other people complain bitterly about how we never get anything but "class fantasy" robes (somehow overlooking the tunics, swimwear, and occasional weird strappy things). Healers have the semi-armoured Daystar set.
Singling out this still-robe-like armour seems strange. And nobody is going to care what you're wearing underneath your glamour.
The problem is that tome gear is the "default" gear. I would be 100% happy if this was a glam item that was crafted or obtained through other means. Since the dawn of time, casters have never exactly been known to wear mail, which is where my main concern rests. It doesn't feel like caster gear, but more like melee DPS gear. I know that some people have asked for this, but to make it the main gear of the patch is a questionable choice in my opinion. When I think about it further though, maybe the gear could make sense for a Red Mage?
Just my opinion
But when they announce the Q & A Live Letter & to post your questions:
1. The thread should have ran from 7/25 - 8/1 & closed it.
2. Have staff to go through the questions, categorizing them by JOBS, TRUST SYSTEM, QoL, etc.
3. Look at same questions that were frequently asked by community. I seen alot of questions regarding the Trust, Blue Mage, squadrons, specific jobs, etc
4. From 8/1 - 8/6, had the staff pick good viable questions that the community would have been pleased to have answered.
Out of hundreds of questions, having 70 good viable questions from many categories would have been the way to go.
MEOL question...REALLY?1? The fact it was picked & answered...SMDH!!!
The live letter process is always odd, and they always answer awful, joke questions that nobody needs, wants or expects an answer to, and ignore a lot of the "we really want to know" ones.
That they encouraged people to thumbs-up questions to get visibility and to cut down on redundancy, then ignore an overwhelming majority of ones that were upvoted...
They need to come up with a better system.
The weirdest one to me is the dye colors one.
Did you come up with some absurdly complex new way to handle color options for 14 thats strictly worse than the way any other system in existence handles it? Cause its a pretty straightforward process.
I think the fun questions are in two parts, A. because they think they're funny or maybe silly but also B. they want to answer a lot but.. can't lol . . so they add these because they've got the time and don't feel like / can't answer others.
Perhaps they can make categories of questions in the future, and a fun question would be one of those groupings. Even avoiding other catagories, because that may add time in compiling questions, just add one category called the "For the Thal" of it or whatever-
"Time for some of our fun / play questions"
-Can potatoes touch their toes?
-etc
-etc
SE doesn't have to set up any quotas of the types of questions, just that when these questions get picked SE is clear that they're picked for that reason specifically (because they're funny/filler and there wasn't going to be a "better different question" in it's place if the funny question was to be axed). As it seems a lot of players take it if a silly question gets picked that it must be there could have been a meatier one in it's place "if only someone didn't ask that". Real answers can be provided in the section of course like "butt sliders?" and they might just laugh or they might mention they're working on updating old races with Viera butt curves or something lol, especially if they're random small lore questions (like Meol) and there is a panel member might be able to play with and off that question because they can.
Also perhaps SE could introduce formatting to the forum question section like bug report section has, nothing as complex though just like:
"
Question:
#One question per post
#Whatever else they want to tell people lol
"
I'm curious if they read all the questions (the dev team), and then pick the ones they can answer or if the CM just decides which questions get translated and that's that. I imagine "sort of" yes the devs read more than they choose to answer, but by that I mean if they do and they choose not to answer a question about content they're not ready to even reference yet it might help players to know that it was read at least (similar to how sometimes we wonder how much of the threads get informed to the team, if it's a sparknote summary or the top 10 or what have you). So if you knew they read it then it's more as if they're "we're aware you want this content but we can't make comment on it because E3, Fan Fest, Next major patch / expansion's from now content, we're currently arguing if we want to do that or not, etc lol". It's a small solace but it could be one still.
So personally the silly questions don't really bother me, at least with the above thinking that they're picked for the fun of it and not because they were like do players want to know "if X important game feature will be adjusted" or do they want to know "what type of shampoo cid uses? because he's fresh" :p.
I imagine keeping a stock pile of past questions for future letters would quickly become unmanageable but I'm curious if I can just repost my questions again xD...
Thank you but i work about 12hrs/day too and ya i'm productive. I was questionning myself about the reason they have answered that for a simple beard option on a character that's why i used some "?"
Relax whiteknight and ya i find healer design lazy, housing system lazy, stuff skin design lazy for an add on (most of it is just some old skins with diffrent colors or exported on another class or a mix of 2 previous stuff), and since the beginning of 2.0 they haven't added a single new face per race or something, just some poor makeups, . The game itself is designed for glam farm / aesthetic, so come on.
They don't take lots of risks concerning biggest issues of the game like housing, gameplay, memory, there are options but they seem to not want to change their systems and each time one of those issues reemerge, forums are on fire, they wait and don't react then once the storm is over they used to add some spangles on a diffrent subject and voilà and it's the same schema years after years.
Here i'm a customer, not their friend, we pay subs, we paid the add on, lots of us pay some cash shop items. So ya maybe they are tired for working too much and i'm sorry for them but it's not my fault if their stockholders are too skinflint for adding more employees, ressources for ff14.
FF14 creates lots of money i'm just curious to know how this money is used.
I want the old loot system back
I don't wanna fight 7 other people in party finder every turn every week which results in me getting a 14.29% chance to get a drop.
This might work on JP, it does not work on EU or NA.
Everyone Rolls on everything. For their alt jobs, for their mothers, for their fathers, for their lvl 1 conjurer & lvl 1 gladiator. For their level 1 dicks.
In the past 2 weeks I have not gotten a single chest, not a single one. I have done 18 Runs on 3 alts in total Closest I got was rolling a 81 and someone beat me with a 99.
It DOES NOT WORK IN PARTY FINDER.
If YOU DO NOT HAVE A STATIC YOU ARE FUCKED.
In the other system you atleast KNEW you had a 50% chance of getting something or a 100% chance if something dropped for your role to get it.
If you are saying this system is better, you ARE misguided and utterly disappointing to hear.
/// Rant over sorry for harsh words but it needed to be said after the damn live letter.
We just need a "need II" for jobs at cap level that goes before " my dk is 31 but i might need that lv 80 sword..." and many problems would be solved...
I won't ever claim the employees themselves are being lazy, I think it's more a management issue if anything personally.
Also, these devs are being paid by us the customer who have an active subscription, who are also paying for the game, and the expansions, and potentially cash shop items. If they were an indie dev, or this a purely free game (modder for skyrim for example) THEN I would be grateful. They are not, they are a multimillion dollar company. They need to allocate time and resources properly, and fix the issues that their customers are having with the game. Paying an active subscription means we should expect service. If that service starts not meeting expectations, they should expect their customers to not pay for that service any longer. Many things in this game do seem to be getting streamlined, rushed out, or put on the back burner so they don't have to work as hard on it. What I say is don't release it until it's finished, or don't release it in such a broken state that it's too difficult to fix it later!
I never thought they would answer about the missing genders but I do think that question getting so many likes keeps it on their radar so they know people still want it. Its like a little reminder and then they can move on to other questions that they can actually comment on.
I wouldn't use that a good enough argument especially when you compare it to the lore of AST cards, Bole, Spire, Ewer all have lore that does not indicate dmg up yet there they are and unlikely to change before next expansion if ever. At this point if it helps achieve balance but contradicts lore it is screw lore at this point(for good and bad reasons).
Sorry to inform you, but you're quite wrong. The new system is objectively better for both statics and pugs.
In the old system, you had two 1/14 chances of gear for your job to even drop at all (or a 1/7 chance overall of getting one piece at all). And unless you were a NIN or DRG, you had an additional 1/2 chance of actually getting it from your rival. So overall for most players, you had a 1/14 chance of getting something.
In this system, you have at least two flat, 1/8 chances to get something, assuming everyone rolls. So you have a minimum overall 1/4 chance of getting something. And since chests can potentially drop two coffers, that chance gets even better the more that drop.
People really don't think things through before complaining.
Well a lot of that whole mess has a lot to do with drastic job changes without them going back into old 2.0 content and rewriting, you both have good points. For example: Bards in 2.0 had the Healer LB3[I always thought that was pretty awesome, but.....]. So what happened? Well they decided to listen to the dpsdpsdpsdpsdpsdpsdps community,(and maybe they just didnt and straight up decided to go this route, but I can only think they made those major changes in 3.0 over outcry.) The end result, less mobility for some utility and higher-turret like damage. Also the worst LB of the 3 DPS types, as far as damage was concerned. The LB might be just a more streamlined decision, but personally I think that the outcries of "I'm a dps" had a little to do with it, at the least. The turret part. probably a little of that and a little bit of trying to make similarities between BRD and MCH. In conclusion, BRD used to have an identity more like the quests present, and even more so from 1.x, but not so much now
Thr current loot system only better in the first week, because itll always stay for 1/8 unlike the previous system where you are forced to pass the part you already have, while it is fair its definately not a better over the old one in the long time
Except you can roll for alt jobs as well, just like everyone else, so it's still better (since you don't actually have to play as the alt job and can use a job that you have the gear on already). Not to mention, your statement is absolutely ridiculous since if you already have the drop, then you either A) wouldn't be doing it with pugs anymore or B) would be doing it for alt jobs.
Seriously, I just got finished saying that people need to think a bit before complaining.
Indeed, that was the case in ARR and HW. Back then, Mage's Ballad would refill parties Mana while Army's Paeon would refill TP. Battle Voice would double the effect of these songs. Then there was Foe's Reqiuem which has been removed. Even The Warden's Paeon had a use in HW (it had a freaking 3s cast before the very first job balance patch), best to combine with Warrior's Pacen debuff, but is right now only situational.
No if most people if finish their main job will try to do it with their alt job, thats why there so many alt job party or at least most people around me is, but now you said it yourself no reason to learn other job because you can need all, its bad for contents life and fairness(debateable its more feeling kinda thing), and i didnt even complain just say its definately not better i hate it but its not badder either so im fine either, english not my main language but i apreciate it if you actually try to read what i say
Yes, I wish the dev team would spend more time discussing super important things like gender and playing videogame dress up.
I know they haven't announced anything, but uh based on the past when do you think the next live letter will be? And next patch? I know 5.1 will probably be October, so sometime before then?
Isn't that the argument we are having right now? People are mad that they are making the jobs (bard and astro) not align with their core lore. It doesn't match and its making people upset. I'm saying this "bard has been a lot of things" excuse doesn't matter because they were made to be support, thats why people picked to play them. I can't speak for bards but the bards I know are upset and moved on to other classes and as an astro main the cards are boring now. I wished they would revamped the effects to be different from each other but they could have kept the seals. I do enjoy that new part.
