Anyone who didn't do the event last year can look at the chair mounts and think "that must have been from Valentione's Day".
No one unfamiliar with this year's event is going to look at the Gigas sword and do the same because the appearance does not fit the theme. It doesn't matter what the story is.
I do agree that this year's story could be amusing if those specific items are a part of the story but it still doesn't make them good rewards for the event.
That's been partially fixed. You can place and remove as long as none of the charges have been consumed.
I agree it's something I wouldn't want to do if the housing is shared with others. Someone accidentally eating a charge means you're screwed. I wish they would make them strictly decorative. Recipes for consumable versions could always be added to CUL.
I definitely had this thought as well, but at the same time, boy those new food furnishings sure look nice.
We're much better off now than we used to be, thanks to Storage, the ability to store partially-eaten food and the ability to pick up uneaten food, but I still can't help but think that SE focuses more on adding food furnishings as event rewards above other types, because they know the food can be consumed and will need to be replaced via MogStation.
If you have an FC house, any food you put in it will be eaten, and there's really nothing you can do about it. A general concern for all furnishings is that you might find a use for them later that you weren't expecting during the event. I know I sure wish I had bought way more of the Far Eastern Doll Displays. So now I buy way more event furnishings than I think I'll need, and put them in Storage, but Storage is finite and I'll eventually run out of room. The only sustainable way to have all event furnishings whenever you need them is to buy them for real money off of MogStation, even if you already earned those furnishings in-game.
If the intent behind these furnishings isn't to eventually get people to re-buy them on MogStation, why not simply add them to the Recompense Officer like the other event rewards?
A meal furnishing doesn't just disappear from its placement if all the servings are consumed. They need to be removed by the owner. You just can no longer get a meal effect from them. Event meals provide very little stat bonuses, and they are intended to be themed decorations for those who have eatery designs for their homes. Even if all the servings are taken, they still serve their purpose, and you can store them to bring out again at your leisure. The reason why this guild member over indulged is likely because these meals still provide the 3% exp bonus that all foods do.
Some players such as myself have both DRK and CUL at max level, and still don't care for these items. I'd actually get more use out of the food decorations and doll because the weapons are just going straight into the armoire. So if your intention is to use the food items as décor, you're gold. But if you want food to be available to eat then why are you getting upset if people actually eat them?Quote:
This year's event rewards are disappointing to me and a large reason why is the food. I don't play drk and I only lvled cul to get cross-class skills so I don't care about the class-based rewards. What's left for me are the furnishings but two out of three are food...so basically the doll is the only thing I can actually look forward to getting. Yay.
I think it'd be really nice if food furnishings had a cooldown instead of charges.
I don't understand the Gigas Sword or the Tonberry Knife.
In fact, I know they just added the Gigas Shield to the Gold Saucer in 4.5.
Glamour item for a DoH? Odd. Why's it not the Mainhand tool? Tonberry Knife... okay, but many of the knives already look like that. I sort of get the theme in that Cooking is tied to Valentine's Day (in reference to making the chocolates for your interest). So doing something for the Culinarian is acceptable, but the Tonberry Knife isn't what I'd take. How about a Frying Pan that has a heart on the base of it? I know that can't be hard to make. It would literally just be a texture swap, which would take a professional (4 years AAA game experience being a prereq to join these companies) maybe a couple quarters of time to throw together. Frying pan with a heart on it would go over better.
Gigas Sword? Why are you not in the Gold Saucer with your Gigas Shield friend? You don't even look good... Not to mention, how do you fit in to the theme? Butcher your lovers with lame sword? Again, Tonberry Knife is closer to base with this one (even if we're still talking about a knife Tonberries just use to shank people mercilessly, and doesn't even look great).
I'm also concerned about whether I can put these in the Armour Dresser thing, cause I will never use them, but their limited release retain inherent value.
I would take a frying pan with a heart on it over the Tonberry Knife. Sure, it would technically be infinitely more development than the Tonberry Knife, cause the Tonberry Knife asset already exists, whereas the texture of a heart on a frying pan would have to be made, but as I said before, that would be maybe 50 cents of time to actually throw together. I'm sure a developer in charge of the event spent at least 15 minutes in a day getting paid to smoke.
Gigas Sword... What? How about WAR gets Julia Manderville's oversized Frying Pan glamour instead? Add heart to that too.
I'll just give SE $100 if they can give me a reason to appreciate whatever lore would make the Gigas Sword and Tonberry Knife actually seem appealing for a Valentine's Day event.
That's misleading. What happens is the furnishing turns into stuff like empty plates, empty baskets, empty cups and scattered cutlery. Sure the furnishing doesn't disappear but it literally changes into something else when all the stacks have been consumed. The food and drink disappears. Visually speaking it's no longer the same furnishing.
Which begs the question, why make it edible?
Well that's a step in the right direction. Thanks for the info.
so if i if i don't play drk i get nothing from it? wtf is this events point? just let people get the old events gear and don't do new at this point. 0/10 for this shit.
The weapon looks like something a level 4 would use.
I don't care about the knick knacks, but there is going to be rage if this is just bait and switch lesbians. Admittedly completely ineffectual rage, but rage nonetheless.
Could care less about lesbians or gay couples, event is bad and that's what the issue is.
There are a lot of housing designs that use empty food furnishings. Maybe once the cooldown is up you could have the option to replenish, instead of it being automatic. The only real downside is that even empty food items would still have the ugly arrow hovering over them (but who even leaves those toggled on anyway).
You mean the rewards look bad? Because we have no idea how good the story will be. And for gameplay, it looks like they're bringing back the maze, which was a blast last year.
Way better than the previous events we've had recently, where rewards were trash, straight trash. At least we have glamour items this time.
I thought the dote emote was pretty cool. But I feel liked they nerfed it. When it released it had really long range and was super hilarious to spam at people. I don't really like these new glamours because even though I'm a Dark Knight, not everyone is so it won't get much use out of a glamour compared to an outfit. Not to mention that the tonberry knife is just for Culinarian and not even for Ninja or Gladiator.
Yeah, I know. That tagline is clearly a CYA while they tease us with a couple of blushing, shiny young anime style women in romantic poses. In a game that already includes an openly gay couple in one quest line and allows for same sex "bonding" I'm not sure what the problem on SE's end would be at this point. The die is long since cast.
A side quest with plausible deniability, and user actions SE doesn't have to advocate in favor of or even openly support. Kind of like the male bunny outfit, people asked for it enough and now it's out there, doesn't mean SE likes it or cares for it outside the occasional gag in bad taste.
Being asked about the bunny outfit to the point of being hounded in PLLs, Fanfests and even when he logs into the game isn't something so easily avoided. Now, I wasn't here for when they eventually added same-sex EBs, but they didn't add them out of the box. And if they really wanted to be allies, we'd have gotten more than that flimsy barely a maybe in the WP quests.
I like the male bunny suit. I wear it quite a lot. In my opinion I think Square Enix should just have sets how they are intended to look regardless of gender. Like a skirt shouldn't magically turn into pants like on so many sets. There's barely any glamour outfits that is a skirt and longsocks for males at all. The male counterparts of a lot of glamour outfits go unused because quite frankly they are usually ugly. Like the supposed male equivalent of the Quaintrelles Dress or the weird Pants when males wear the Spring Bottoms.
Have to ask where did the whole SE aren't inclusive came from as far as i have seen they pretty are in ffxiv, the EB was asked for it as soon as they announced the service and they didn't shy away they added it SE are being cautious due to how we in the West are about things they add things gradually base on demand there are few npcs that are around that are never stated but you can tell are LGBTQ+ just like real life we are there but not everyone has their presence known
"A skirt turning into pants" is all relative, but the inventory icons for gear always show the male versions, so I'm more inclined to see the pants as the default form and they turn into a skirt for the female version.
But yes, those particular examples are not nice counterparts. (The Boulevardier pants do at least have potential with thigh-length boots, since they tuck in and you lose the silly ruffles.)
And while there are "barely any glamour outfits with skirt and leggings for males" (assuming you mean the Lv1 all-classes gear), that's the case for both genders. Girls don't get leggings, we get miniskirts and long socks and exposed thighs. I would love to have a nice Lv1 skirt with full-length tights under it. It does not exist.
Meanwhile there are quite a few "actual gear" skirts with either tights or close-fitting pants for male characters, but you won't find them in the Lv1 section of the marketboard. (I am overly aware of this because I want to use them, but the female version almost invariably loses the pants.)
From memory (and grouped by shared models - have looked up those):
Acolyte's Skirt (DoM)
Brand-New Waistwrap (DoM)
Cashmere Skirt of Healing
Direwolf Skirt of Healing
Foestriker's Skirt (DoW)
Brand-New Skirt (DoW)
Cashmere Skirt of Aiming
Direwolf Skirt of Aiming
Brand-New Trousers (tank)
[GC] Sergeant's Skirt (tank)
Boarskin Skirt (tank/DRG)
Vermillion Skirt (tank)
Thick Skirt (DRG)
Warwolf Skirt of Maiming
Infantry Skirt (DoW)
Cashmere Skirt of Striking
Direwolf Skirt of Striking
Evoker's Waistclout
Summoner's Waistclout ....I want those pants and I am so jealous. ;_;
Ramie Skirt------------} looser pants, not tights, but they don't evaporate on females and I'll take what I can get.
Chimerical Felt Skirt ---}
Star Velvet Bottoms of Healing/Casting
Ghost Barque Bottoms of Scouting
Sorry I mean't longsocks that go up past the knee instead of leggings. This is an example of what I mean by longsocks for males as well.

But I do wish Square would have more level one glamour for all classes/gender/race. So that there would be more customization. If the original intent of glamour is suppose to be pants then it should be pants on male and female. If it is a skirt it should be a skirt on male or female. This would help both male and female characters looking for the right look.
EB have always allowed you to bond with whoever you want, so I don't know what you mean by "out of the box". Sure, in-game marriage wasn't a thing at launch, but they never released "only opposite genders" EB. They maintained plausible deniability by not calling it marriage and letting you pick whether you kiss or not at the end, so you can make it just a "friendship" bond if you want.
He might mean they were saying they would start with only opposite-sex marriage, and that they might add same sex later: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...IV-Q-A-Summary
It wasn't until people protested that, they changed their minds. And I think that's when they started calling it "Eternal bond". There was even some interview Yoshi-P was asked something about marriage, and he said something like "please don't call it that, its an eternal bond" like he really didn't want anyone to think there is gay marriage in the game.
Ah, right. That's a very different request to "leggings", at least as I understand it.
But yes, a bigger variety of styles available to both genders would be good. I'd love to see more Lv1 "utility" pieces that provide a specific style. A dyeable skirt over black tights would be so good for me, and I'd also like to see more sleeve-modifying gloves instead of having them scattered around race- or job-locked items.
It would definitely be nice, although it's an effect of how they program the different gear pieces - tights are leg gear, so they only affect the "legs" section of the character model (waist to ankles). Obviously they've worked out something different with long boots going beyond the foot, but I guess you're thinking more of having the 'foot' part of the tights visible under the shoes.
I'd recommend SE take a look at other games (GW2 *cough* *cough*) to see how events like this can be so much more. Many of these events are comprised of a really lame story that most everyone ignores and crap that gets tossed in the armory chest. Most of the gear we get from these events is just hideous. Some of the event activities are kind of neat but most of them are pretty uninspiring. Some of the housing items are pretty cool, though.
So... we've had the quest....
I'm currently looking for where to acquire the DRK and CUL glamours, but the items were completely unrelated to the quest.
You just talk to the fortune teller you have to talk to for another quest, she has an option to buy a special potion. The magic pot is "hidden" such that he's fairly easy to see if you were walking by. (Magic pot is north of the lancer guild aetheryte). I don't think people needed any mining to find it, although it just sort of seems to be "there".
