We need another Housing purge

One account already had 9 houses on it. Some of them being personal houses that I relocated to secure the location and would later relinquish to transfer existing fc houses from another account in order to make it more manageable.

You guys make it sound like I had a bunch of fcs ready to purchase new plots with. Which isn’t true. Even if I wanted to, there isnt enough ressources on the Market Board to level up a bunch of FCs in a two weeks window. Especially considering the new purchases were limited to FCs only during those two weeks.

Ending up with 16 fc houses in the same ward hasn’t happened in a single evening despite what you want to believe.

Personally, I think you're missing the main point as to what people are angry with. It has less to do with (for some people) about the means in which you acquired said plots and more or less why you feel or think that you even need 16 FC houses to begin with. I mean, if you want to be chained and bogged down to the game on multiple characters and service accounts, that's on you. 3-5+ homes would seem like a chore to me, and 16+ is like a second full-time job.

Owning 16 FC houses doesn't make you look any smarter or superior than the average player, it just makes some of us that own a FC house and personal home tilt our heads in confusion like "....why do that to yourself...?" kind of thing.

It should've never happened at all. Be it before or after the restrictions were in place.
Yet like I said earlier, we can't hold the player base accountable for SE own fault in not putting the system in right or allowing loopholes. No matter how much a player(s) try to explain their behavior, they exploited something, knew they did, even admitted to it (like now also) and SE did nothing and thus why people so boldly come here and admit it out loud. No matter how you look at it, it was against the ToS then and it is now but nothing being done, not on SE end to stop it. Then again, as I pointed out before, it doesn't stop those who are buying new service accounts just for this reason. SE only fix to this problem at this rate is instance housing. Give FC's the wards, put tighter restrictions on them.

I'm in agreement. But, it's not just this player, any player in particular that needs 5+ houses or more screams to me like they're an attention seeker and need that sort of thrill to get by in life. But, that can also honestly be said the same for the people with exuberant amounts of gil that wave it other people's faces or their high-end raiding gear.

Actually, any player that uses something to put themselves on a majestic and holier than thou pedestal for the sake of incurring the anger, envy, jealousy, spite, etc of other players is an attention seeker in general. So, there we go, lol. They exist everywhere, just housing is probably the avenue that leaves the MOST evidence behind, I guess.

Having 20+ airships constantly running and bringing back materials is a massive advantage to any FC doing this. It isn't about attention, it is about being as efficient as possible.

Plus, SE made it super easy for people to own multiple single character FCs. So blame SE for that mess.

Not only did they create a housing system which can not support the larger servers (and only the larger servers as the medium and small servers still have plenty of houses) they created a system where only FCs can have access to a very lucrative part of the game (airships and subs).

Instead of attacking this player, just implore that SE change how housing functions, give all players access to airships and subs, and move the workshop to the company barracks so there is no need to own multiple FCs.

Whether or not you agree with owning multiple FCs, SE has already shown they will grandfather anyone currently owning a house or multiple houses into the new system.

Remove the desire to own these FC houses, attacking the player on this forum only makes people look like jealous children.

And what's exactly wrong with only owning the set amount of airships that you are suppose to own as a FC? Inconveniencing other players and preventing them from owning plots of land, if they have the money to do so anyways, is not efficient for them at the very least. It may be for you, but at the costs of what? Being selfish and greedy, I suppose? And you are exactly exhibiting what I had said. I made an opinion that people needing more homes above the basic limits of which SE wants is selfish and in some cases, especially with the posts of a player waving it in the faces of other people, attention seeking. And immediately, you jump to name-calling by calling others "jealous children" as if that somehow condones your actions or other people.

You can preach your "got mine, screw you" mentality all you want, by all means, but don't be surprised when people disagree with it and when they won't silence their opinions because you simply want them to.

Having 20+ airships isn't efficiency sake, it's money-making greed. The materia is random, and the materials it brings back are mostly for special walls and other luxury items. It's greed, plain and simple.

I use the extra plots for gardening, if SE made instance personal green houses I would not have much need for plots. My plots are pretty bare bone and I do get a some flank for it in game nothing major, but these are the lengths I have to go through to enjoy the parts of the game I enjoy. Which is crafting and making Gil. Granted the airships are nice but if they made them separate from housing I am sure the demand for housing would go down.

I might look into that before the next expansion drops if nothing changes. I do have some older accounts sitting around that I used for the gold feathers to get the mounts and RAF mount. I could put them to some good use.

Greenhouses sounds like a pretty cool idea, not going to lie about that. It would be great to garden in one area and not be tied down to deluxe garden plots or single pots within a house. Imagine being able to have multiple pots of plants on a shelf in a greenhouse or something near your home...almost like Harvest Moon.

I do not know how I missed that. I mean ya I got everyone including me ignored it. For me, I just assumed it could someone pretending but it really wasn't important to me. I can def see your point and looks like they succeeded, more so by posting on all 3 accounts here and once here, used the 2 others to cheer themselves on.

There had been a screenshot posted very early in this thread that showed a particular housing ward mostly taken up by a specific FC. OliverB then came in saying they were the owner and it blew up from there. Mods have been active in this thread and several posts have been removed. Just some clarification.

Next to instanced housing, they could have also made instanced apartments which the feature to buy more and more rooms so that you can have as much housing space as you want. Or they could have given private housing the feature to buy rooms..and also give all the feature to buy more than one room. So if you are a small FC or own a small privat house you can just get more rooms by buying more thus you also have a gil sink.

In the end they put out lots of rewards and crafting items for housing but there is still not enough demand for everyone owning a house..

Yup, they could do a lot of things to minimize the want to get more then one house. I guess this is the result of trying to charge people as much as possible for "extra items and services" while not putting money back in the game. To add on this and someone else said, You could also pay more gil to expand how much you can grow, pay more for how many grade III buffs you can charge at once but no it seems they go out of their way to be as anti-consumer as possible with housing. What is shocking to me in that regard some people still go out of their way to try defend and make excuses for SE despite how bad housing is.

But hey if they manage to trick people in paying 30 or 45 dollars a month for 2/3 subs, they did a good job to maximize profits right? that is all that matters right? How much money you make, not how you treat your customers.

This is something I've been in favor of for months. If SE made the following, I think there'd be less friction over housing:
- instanced greenhouses, as mentioned above, accessible from apartments and fc rooms as well as houses
- instanced FC barracks where you can place aetherial wheels and control airships

That's it, I think just those additions would fix a lot of things. People could have multiple FCs for airships and gardeners could expand their operations without hindering other players. Houses become a luxury item, bragging rights and decoration only. This would probably free up a few plots, at least.

Also, I hope when they add the ability for alts to use the main's personal house, they also give them the ability to make their own room, like in FC houses. That would be a nice touch.

Does everyone realize that we have went from 450,540,720,1440,2160,2880 to now 4320 plots? What else do you want? It’s not hard to get a house. In facts it’s almost too easy now. Anyone who doesn’t have a house and complains about either 1) lacks intelligence (sorry but it’s true) 2) doesn’t know how 3) doesn’t have gil or 4) is being way to picky about what plot they want.

Managing a dozen FC’s is easy. You make it seem impossible but it’s very very easy. It’s just like retainers really in essence of airships and subs. If people spent the energy they do with anger and jealousy towards getting a house this would be a moot point. It’s sooooooo easy to get a house. Just click and buy. They are there. Check auto demo timers hourly: I just saw a mansion pop the other day. Tons of mediums pop weekly. It’s more of a reflection on people’s lack of effort rather than pointing at someone as a scapegoat. To everyone complaining about housing I ask you this question : how bad do you actually want a house? More people actually like complaining about not having one than they care about what it takes to get one. Anyone I know that truly wants a house has one. Square isn’t going to gift you one.

Well, I still seem to have forum access so I'm just going to poke my little head in here and leave my 2 gil. This will probably be a rant, but I'll try to keep it short and simple.

I am honestly quite tired of people blaming the players and not blaming the system. This problem was created by SE, and over the years they've done nothing but make it worse.

This is a problem that is easily solved, or at least curbed, by simple economic principles: supply and demand. Something which SE seems to have no understanding of. As someone who owned multiple mansions at one time, allow me to offer a little insight into the problems that exist.

The first, and most glaring, issue is one of supply. Non-instanced housing was a mistake. This was the original sin. It comes with some pros, but the cons far outweigh them. That said, SE have done nothing but double down on their design. Fine, I can't say I blame them for not scrapping it and providing something better. The sunk cost would be great.

Here's the part where SE have frustrated me. They know their supply is limited, and yet they've done nothing but increase demand for housing. Let's start at the beginning.

The first thing that created demand for housing beyond what housing offers in its basic form is Gardening. Decoupling gardening from housing would have gone a long way to decreasing demand for housing. They could just have instead made an instanced gardening area. You could even still tie it in to an FC if you wish. There was a time when this was a common request. Well, we all know they didn't.

Then airships were added. Why? These are just ventures. Why tie them in to housing? Again, tie it in to an FC, give us an instanced workshop at Cid's lab or something. Well, again, just like gardening, there's profit to be made. Demand was further increased by this addition.

Okay, so they've made some mistakes. They still had a very simple method to decrease demand. Price. Demand is not only a desire to own something, but also the willingness to pay for it. And here's where they goofed again, and I could do nothing but facepalm. To decrease demand, they could have increased the max price of their reverse auction system. They could leave the minimum price the same, so if nobody wanted to buy the house, it would still cost the same it does now. Forgive the bold, but a lot of people don't seem to understand this part whenever this idea is proposed.

But no. What did they do? They decreased the price of housing, increasing demand further. Housing is so cheap that even those who don't care about it become willing to pay for it just because they can. SE. Please. Please, please, please. You don't have many gil sinks other than housing. Why do you do this? Inflation is rampant because gil is useless. And yet you decreased the price of your ONE large gil sink! This is unfathomable. I can't.

I'm sorry, but I had to get it off my chest.

TL;DR: The simplest and most effective solution to ease the housing situation is to increase the max price of a house, but keep the minimum price the same. This ensures that only those who have a true desire to own a house will buy them, while at the same time not increasing the price of housing once demand has been sated.

While you're at it, for the love of Nald'thal, decouple gardening and airships from housing.

I blame both, SE has made housing bad I agree, but I blame the player when they come here and explain how they did a work around for SE's rule of limiting of purchase of FC housing. Maybe you missed this post:

On Moogle alone there are (at least if I use the search option) over 4000 FCs. Now next to them you can also buy it for your own too. And lets not forget that this game should be growing thus more and more people that also want housing.

Solution: Let the old wards stay for all of those that want neighbors and give us at least one instanced zone. Nobody can complain about housing anymore and if you have more than one instanced zone people could even own multiple houses without taking it away from others. Everyone happy, and we would not even need the discussion right now.

How can you even prove that hahaha. First off you have no idea about my intentions, nor do you know what it's like to play with 3+ clients at the same time. I ended up with an FC house on an account that was freed of FC houses. From that point, I just connected the dots. I don't know why you keep claiming I bought like 9 extra houses with the method I gently provided. Oh wait, you just ignored the techincal reasons I provided that made it impossible to do so...

But it's not against the rules now so it really depends on whether SE cares about a statute of limitations on offenses like this.

Not that I agree with or support this dude in any way (knowingly violating the spirit of the rules isn't much better than flat out breaking the rules), but continuing to call this an exploit is starting to turn into petty nitpicking.

That doesn't make it not an exploit though. Especially if you continue to use it to your advantage after discovering it. Whether it is or not is an exploit is up to SE however and they haven't joined the conversation other than plucking posts out.

Well, not to argue semantics, but I'm going to argue semantics here. 16 is not "a dozen FC's", that would be 12. I never said it was impossible, not once, I just said that it would almost feel like a full-time job if you have 16 or more FC's to manage scattered between three different service accounts. Which I'm going to just do a basic estimate here, is like wasting 18 hours of your day away simply by just going through your housing alone for the airships and subs, etc. If I'm going to waste 18 hours of my day, well, I'd rather waste at least 7-8 getting paid with a full-time job instead of turning my MMO into something that only provides me with virtual money as a full-time job.

First off, you don't need to lecture me about "more people actually like complaining about not having one than they care about what it takes to get one". Let me just call out that part and how I think it's a bit of naivety to assume that everyone complaining that the housing structure is garbage and the people taking advantage of the loopholes are greedy people are simply people that don't have a house and are therefore jealous. You would be wrong and farther from the truth. I am part of a FC with a large house and I own a private, small in the 1st ward of Shirogane while micromanaging a private, small in the 1st Ward, Goblet for my fiance when he can't be around sometimes. How bad did I actually want that house in Shirogane? Well, certainly enough to force myself awake til 7am when the servers reopened on the very first release day of Shirogane housing, that's how bad. And I STILL had to throw caution towards the wind with the server queues and whether or not that they would favor me and let me log in to grab the spot that I had wanted before someone else.

This isn't about someone getting a house that someone else wanted. This isn't about a SINGLE home whatsoever, this is about ONE player taking advantage of the loopholes within the rules, because it's there, because they can do it, and because they will without any kind of disregard that their actions prohibit other people from enjoying a part of the game that they want to enjoy also and have the funds to do so. This is about one, single person owning up multiple houses to fuel their own flawed greed because that's all airships do, they make money. That's it. And, that is the only reason why someone needs 20+ airships is for their lucrative properties and the person's excessive desire to be rich, and by golly, they will step on as many people to get there. That's what this is about.

When personal greed fuels you as a player to step on and spite others and then wave it in their faces with the "got mine, screw you plebs" sort of mentality, that's not entirely SE's fault, and granted SE shares a decent portion of the blame, however, they're also expecting their players to play fairly and act accordingly and courteous to other players above all while playing the game. No player by themselves needs 16+ FC houses no more than a player needs to run the Vault with a newbie healer on release day.

Let me stress at the end, "Just because it's there and that you can buy it, doesn't mean that you absolutely need it".

I could afford another private small if I really wanted to and get another service account for it...then transfer the gil in doing so, could doesn't mean that I should. Big difference in morals here.

What I've stated was how I would transfer my grandfathered FC houses onto the same account to make it more manageable and as a result, figured out I had an FC house on an account that was previously freed of FC houses.

I agree with you 100%. This is SE fault. Been saying that since day one. However, that shouldn't excuse a player to use a known loophole to buy up half a ward. When the demand is so high and the supply so low, that just toxic behavior. Such behavior is why this community got so many toxic players in it. The, "Don't care because I'm not going to get punished for it." attitude.

We don't excuse RMT for cheating/bot/selling gil. Why should we excuse a player poor decision to buy up a half/whole ward when they know their using a loophole to do it?

I don't know why you think I don't understand that? I was just stating that if there is an exploit, running into it by accident doesn't make it any less of an exploit and if anyone continued to use it afterwards as an advantage then it makes it that much worse. The accident doesn't excuse continued usage for anyone.

By now (before this thread existed even) SE should have been aware of it. No statement have been made against it, nothing to prevent it was added to the game. Other than preventing users from severely going at each others throats on the forum, I don't think they consider this an issue to address.

Nah, you really don't understand. Before they doubled the amount of wards, you could buy 8 FC houses per account. And you can still do. There's never been an "exploit" other than during those two weeks.

I'm not exactly saying the players aren't at fault here. It is absolutely selfish and greedy to take extra houses. I admit that even as someone who did it themself. However, complaining about the players accomplishes nothing, and most proposed solutions end up punishing legitimate players.

People should be demanding of SE to actually fix their terrible system instead of raging against other players who are playing well within the game's rules as designed by SE.


And just so it's clear, I have no more stake in this problem. They reclaimed my houses when I took an extended break. One that was extended further because of the foul taste that left me with, along with the other issues I have with SE not improving their game, which I won't delve into because that's a topic for another thread. My desire to continue playing this game has dwindled. I barely even touched it during the 7 free days I had during the callback campaign (which is the only reason I have forum access right now).

Tangentially on-topic, but I'm currently enjoying ESO where I can own 41 different styled houses, simultaneously, and all shared among my alts. And with the subscription being optional, I imagine I will continue to do so for some time.

Which I fully understand was a capability before the additional wards were added. The bit after was what I was unaware of before you clarified that earlier in the thread (I had thought that to have carried on past that two week period) . :) Even during that two week period though, it was public knowledge even on these very forums that one could get around the restriction. Again SE did nothing to prevent it, has to my knowledge taken no action against anyone that did it and has made no statements against it being done. I'm not condoning going against the intention of the rules they set up, but SE doesn't seem to be actively against it.

What I really don't understand is why this Oliver person can't answer Dusty simply on their main forum account and not going back and forth between their alts. That has to be annoying and/or tiring.

Not only annoying but it makes it look like they are aware there is an issue and don't want to get in trouble if a developer happens to chance upon this topic. That or they're trolling and taking the proverbial piss out of the situation, and switching accounts is part of them giving the middle finger to everyone here. Might not be the intention but it's definitely the impression that's been left.

I'm logged into whatever account is active on mog station on top of looking at this thread on multiple devices. Lol @ the post above.
