Petition to Terminate Restrictions on Transfer to “High Population” Servers

Basically you are saying your own FC is the only safe haven in all of Eorzea for LGBT, which we all know that is ludicrous. Just like what many in this thread told the OP, they don't get out much.

Well, LGBT are represented in many of our own free companies. Not everyone wants to go to one server or a zerg FC. I'm also not sure what you are getting at by running away from a token free-company tag either, if you are true to the cause you'd be standing up to such things by placing the stake.

^Correct me if I am wrong. You are opposed to SE putting a temp. lock on Gilgamesh, because if they go ahead with their decision, then ppl from the LGBTQ community will not have a safe haven to run to(your fc, for example)?

Although the biggest issue is community lockdown, and being a resident of Gilgamesh, is (unfortunately) have to side with this.

Market is overrun by people who can provide same services.

Housing situation lacks improvement due to demand.

Smaller servers die with desired resources.

It's a lot to get into but I do believe in squares decision in this matter.

I wish they would just come out and tell us how many and when it will be since again said in another post waiting until the 20th is a silly idea since people will be far to invested in stormblood to care about transferring to a new server

Competition is normally considered a good thing as monopolies are pretty terrible for consumers but over supply is terrible for produces as it wipes out the markets.

Not quite sure the number of servers would have that much to do with it if it's more than one server.

Also now that I have my suitable source of caffiene (*queue Popeye spinach theme*), I'm curious now what the thoughts are of the JP player community on this since they're getting twice as many servers locked down as NA is.

The issue is best discussed without bringing biased politics into the debate, I feel. Especially when certain people are arguing from within what appears to be quite the influential echo chamber and just as discriminatory as those they claim to be against.

Without any fluent readers of Japanese speaking up, I'd have to ask friends who can read for a favor to browse the forums (and possibly other commonly used boards) to see the reaction.

It should be noted that there hasn't been any fixed, finite specified number of worlds being added to the EU data center, just that there will be some added. I believe that the congested high population is a broad section related to -all- of the worlds, especially the worlds that are now currently suspended for transfers and character creation.

6/64 Servers are being temporarily restricted because players are choosing to over-bloat said servers rather than spread out. I see no issue here.

@Veritas-Ancora: Please consider the fact that perhaps your venue is not unlimited. I commend your community. That's highly impressive. You can't overpack people onto a server. There's soft limits and then there are hard limits. We were all (Balmung, Gilgamesh, Mandragora, Chocobo, and Bahamut) hitting the soft limits, while some are starting to. We're now at the hard limit which I am honestly surprised it took this -long-. We could not keep jamming together. They've finally got more space to do more with the NA data centers. It's honestly time.

I'm here and I'm queer! Right? Please consider that either a) your chosen venue is now not big enough for your group or b) creating a second chapter to accommodate the needs of those who need you. This is the same mentality I am considering for those who much prefer RP in the game. Roleplay has always been secondary to me and so I am just waiting to see if my friends will leave Balmung or not if it is better for the community with the incentives people have for leaving. As it is already stated in another thread, they're starting to come together to discuss what is best for the future roleplayers. I think it would also be the best case scenario and in the best interests of your large community to consider the best alternatives. I don't think have a second chapter, a brother/sister chapter to your group on another server is a bad idea.

100% against this petition and the OP is not considering the ill effects their proposal has on entire player base, due to player caused issues to begin with. Also anyone stating these servers do not effect the health and stability of their data centers is misleading and flat out lying. All servers are tied into other functions and tasked role servers on any given data center. High population servers nearing critical limits add even more stress.

Since ARR release, players and their friends should have branched out across multiple servers, creating their own communities from the ground up. Especially when both servers were hitting critical limits and SE started implementing restrictions, which have been continuing since implementation.

I am glad a few players within these servers have spoke up and are looking into alternate methods. This is truly what needs to happen. These players are looking at the overall picture and health of not only their own communities but others as well.

Business is not sustainable if you're producing below the marginal cost of production for extended periods, that's a market fact. But what is the marginal cost of production in eorzea? Only the time it takes to gather the ingredients and process them plus flight and repair provisions. The latter two can be assigned a value easily, but how do you value time? You can only go by opportunity cost.

That's rather subjective. Imagine someone genuinely enjoys gathering items and crafting something with it. His opportunity cost for doing so is small or even negative, because the value for the time spend gathering and crafting is high, so he can sustain business for as long as the price doesn't fall below the cost for flight and repairs. But someone who would get more enjoyment out of doing other things would quit the market, because for him the opportunity cost is too large.

Unlike in real markets however, said producer can just re-enter the market when the price goes back up, as his facilities have no maintenance cost he needs to cover. Which is also why an aggressive undercutting strategy can have no lasting benefits in the form of market monopoly - Nobody ever needs to close business from a lack of profit, people only choose to because they can't be arsed for that price.

And as such, more competition is only beneficial. But that's unrelated to the topic, so... /huh. The market on Balmung is a helluva lot healthier than most servers.

Guys. During Heavensward launch, I never had a queue that last more than 15-20 minutes. And I played religiously though early access and launch. So, I'm not too sure what was wrong for those who said their queues were horrendous.

The issue here is that they've locked down these servers with absolutely no incentive for people to leave. Sure, they upper the caps on gil. But they are essentially telling me that if I want to continue to grow my FC, I need my entire FC to pay $18 to transfer to a low pop server. I call bullshit. They want to cap a server, fine. But then I need them to let me move my entire FC (players, house, workshop, and all) for free.

Players are over-bloating said servers because there are established communities here that have been given no viable alternatives for moving.

I will overlook the immature personal attack in your response and address its substance. This is a courtesy rarely afforded on the interwebs. You're welcome.

In reality, the RP community is split in its reaction to the restriction. It falls within a few camps: (1) the indifferent and "wait and see" camp (60% of people); (2) the "let's try for 30th time to do something that has failed every time - create sustainable RP communities on other servers that are something greater than a 20-50 person clique" (20% of people); and (3) the "let's take action to restore the status quo that has worked for over 2 years camp" (20% of people).

I think people are predisposed to either support or oppose the restriction depending on how much they value community. Many believe that community in a MMORPG is essential, and SE has prohibited the community on high population servers from growing. The efforts of RPers to create a viable alternative RP server that is larger than a small clique will likely fail due to disorganization, conflicting personal interests, and a variety of other factors - like it has countless times before.

Most who support the restrictions value playing in pre-established groups and may not care very much about the community at large. They don't realize that the community itself is important to ensuring the long-term health of their groups.

I apologize for being unable to address each and every post in this thread due to time constraints. However, the majority of critical responses are best addressed by pointing out the following:

SE could remedy the supposed over-population problem through a variety of different means that would not potentially harm the communities on high population servers, or at least disclose the date when the restriction will be lifted [see OP for ideas].

I'd had hours long tries. :| It was more of a guessing game the first few days as to whether or not I was actually getting in. Many hours of frustration as I kept getting timed out while my roommate didn't have that issue even though I had switched ethernet cables, restarted my computer many times, and re-installed. As time went on the queues stabilized but there was a few days of a ton of frustration.

If you don't, perhaps others will. They're going to make the transfer free to leave for certain worlds. Whether or not you accept these, it's up to you. I highly doubt they will let you keep your actual plot and workshop as they are so I think asking for different incentives is not out of the question.

Just take it as is. It's not indefinite unless the players make it out to be. They will be lifted when the populations are not as high as they are now.

For the record, I am not signing this petition as I think the lock was a long time coming. Do I dislike the lock? Yes, but I think they're right in trying to get people to move to less congested worlds. If you need better incentives, call for them.

When? Most likely Stormblood. Maybe they're waiting for people to tell them "Look these incentives are not ENOUGH! We need more like this. We know we can't get the same houses and plots. We can't get the workshop. Find a way to compensate for the materials and time spent on those airships." This gives you time to figure out what is the best option for you. I'm honestly amazed that so many people are so willing to jump before seeing where they will land... It's a great time to find out what type of housing market you may be getting into etc.

Except that bonus section is just a sub heading under the New EU worlds section. So I take that to mean that those bonus are only for those transferring into those new EU worlds.

It's not only new EU worlds. It's EU worlds and Improvements to Population Distribution.

Well they need to clarify moving from Gilgamesh and Balmung. I was about to move an alt from Gilgamesh to Siren but I'm going to wait now to see if 1) it'll be free and 2) if the bonuses will apply to my toon when she moves. I'm currently gearing her and have a couple more weeks to get her to full 270 which is something I could just as easily do on Siren but I'll wait and see how this turns out.

You can transfer to plenty of high-population servers... just not Balmung.

No. Even though I would have liked my SO to transfer to my server when he resubs for SB, I think this is a good thing. There's still xPF to run the dungeons together.

Ok cool. When are we getting these bonuses? Because I can't grow my FC right now. So these bonuses are literally useless until they give all the details.

And we need some more details about cross server communication. While we may eventually be able to move an entire FC, what about the ties andnfriends we have made with others on our current server. Am I to be expected to not be able to talk with those people anymore because SE decided to close the server off?

And how should that help Balmung to get less full?
Accept it, SE put Balmung on diet because the server got too fat.

I think they should keep the servers locked. I've been on both Balmung and Gilgamesh. I don't have friends, but if I did I'd move to a smaller server to be with them rather than the other way around.

If you miss your friends from your large server, there's always Discord, texting, PSN, Steam, etc...

Nope, they will be one or more new worlds in Chaos, plus a free transfer to who wanna go there, plus perks, plus full FC move. SE is seriuos on wanting the new worlds start with enough players already in.

I'm just here with popcorn. I have an alt on Gilgamesh (which was created there, not transferred) and really don't see what the big deal is. My purpose in creating the alt was to test what the environment of Gilgamesh was like, relative to my experience on a smaller server, and it really is not inherently superior in any way.

Once the cross server PF was implemented, Gilgamesh's advantage of an always active PF for every type of content was vastly diminished.

In fact, before cross server PF, I had trouble getting a few extreme primal clears, even on an alt. After the cross server PF, I knocked them all out in a couple of hours.

I think they did a good move locking the servers down. Atleast Balmung. GILGAMESH still have apartments available so I have no clue why they locked that one down.

I think its a good idea because it gives the other servers a chance to start a RP community on them as well.

That's all well and great, but what about the FCs of these locked down servers? How do we get new players? Poaching from the toxicity that is prevalent on our servers already?

That's funny because in my experience most of the Gilgamesh FCs were explicitly not recruiting, and those that were doing so had some pretty rigorous application processes in order to even get through the front door.

I was a member of a small FC created by a friend who also made an alt there, so it wasn't a big deal for me, but my GF actively went around looking for an FC that would be a good fit. Most were very exclusive and even the ones she joined didn't seem concerned about retention or recruitment. She actually ended up transferring her alt off the server. It was not a welcoming environment.
