It is popular in America, but not Final Fantasy popular. It is one of the biggest franchises in Japan however. Up there with Pokemon and Mario. I am surprised it isn't considered a national holiday when one gets released over there.

This thing looks like it sucks. Why are they making a psVita 2.0?
what about all the low end PCs holding it back? Why you gotta hate on a console? Why does gaming have to be full of hate in the first place? It's not like the PS3 was holding back anything other than VERY small things like UI. You're not getting super amazing updates to look like real life cause it's dropped.
This is more about the developer tools.
The WiiU lacked a good enough install base to justify developing major AAA games on, which just worsened it's issues.
Looking closer at the system itself, Nintendo has taken a really conservative approach to the Switch.
I mean, there are no crazy gimmicks to how it's controlled, no dual screen requirements, or over-emphasised touchpad. It's an ordinary controller that can be set on a tablet screen or TV screen.
If I were a developer, I'd be relieved and excited seeing that!
My question is how it went into law that you cannot carry back-pocket ice cream. What horrible back-pocket involved ice cream incident occured that prompted that?
This is a culinary leve waiting to happen.
I think the switch is super sweet, and I think Nintendo gets a lot of fun looking games. I'm mainly a PC gamer because of the versatility and buying new consoles gets really expensive. My newest console is a PS2 that I bought used when PS3 came out. I honestly considered buying a PS3, but I was waiting on KHIII and FFvsXIII. Now those games are coming out for PS4 (vsXIII became FFXV) and I'm hoping I might get an FFXV PS4 bundle for Christmas (with the older model PS4 and not the PS4 Pro) because it's a game I actually want to play, and will play a lot, to get through it.
And someone mentioned PSVita remote play running FFXIV... well, do we know that Nintendo Switch won't have this? What are the full capabilities of the Docking station? Is it only an over-glorified charger, or does it have additional storage and processing that allows for the Switch to operate on the principles of Remote Play?
I'd love for a reason to get back into Nintendo systems (I played FFI on the original NES when I was a kid growing up) - Final Fantasy's switch to PlayStation was the main reason my family moved away from Nintendo. I know that there are the Crystal Chronicle games, but they were never a big calling to me and I'm a very focused gamer, which is why I haven't really gotten into a lot of MMOs... the story of FFXIV keeps me with it because I feel like I'm really a part of the narrative, instead of someone just ambling along and stumbling into things.
The dock seems to work as both a charger and hook-up station to the TV. Having a remote play sort of deal would severely negate the Switch's portability as a hand-held, so I don't think that's the plan.
@kosmos (I've read a bunch of your posts btw) Indeed, it's called "Remote Play" because the game is running on the remote PS4 (I assume it's similar to PlayStation Now.) (Though it might be possible in each case that some rendering is done locally - perhaps someone has some more details on the Remote Play/PS Now protocols?) But I think it's notable that it works in a handheld form factor, and if the Switch offers good enough performance, then why not?
I expect that the existing Xbox One is probably good enough to run FFXIV - iirc the reason FFXIV wasn't on it was some non-performance issue between Microsoft and SE, like wanting separate MS-only servers or something, and FFXV will actually be arriving on Xbox One.
The seperate servers for Xbox players was the issue from my understanding.
Xbox Live has a few extra layers to it that PSN lacks, the price being one, but it also has unique player blocking tools that could be wacky if people from other formats were gaming with you.
Microsoft and Sony continue to waffle on whether to lift this policy as it's never reall been a deal breaker for most games, like Overwatch, and most gamers don't care. FFXIV is one of the few exceptions, refusing to segregate the playerbase by platform, so unless MS is willing to allow SE to bypass both Live and cross-platform restrictions, they aren't interested in putting FFXIV on the Xbone.
The console's actual power and architecture was never an issue at all.
How do you expect to play with that horrible controller?
I think the issue would be in terms of typing stuff out. Have you ever tried to use FFXIV's "keyboard"? It SUCKS enough that its more than worthwhile using an old USB keyboard in a PS3 or PS4.
Acording to the rumor mill it's not running Skyrim HD. It's just stock footage being used for the commercial. From what I heard Bethesda is saying they have nothing confirmed yet for development with Nintendo's new console. Same with EA, but to be frank. Zelda and the two Mario titles, might be the only ones showing its hardware performing. Unless it was a scripted clip doing the Nomans Sky thing to promote the console without actually showing anything running off of it.
Like in the other thread, the UI or HUD is the only thing that'll need tweeking for portable play. Then there's the thing on how you are supposed to type on it. However that all depends on the battery life if it can get 8 to 10 hours as a mobile device, great. Anything around 3 to 5 hours might not work to well for most gamers. On that topic I'm waiting to hear what the battery life is and if it can be replaced without replacing the whole thing.
No please dont SWITCH from ps3 to this.. Just let it be for Monster Hunter and thoose nintendo classic that works pretty well with that console.
I'm all In IF the Switch is good enough to cope with this game.
Can you imagine how amazing will be it having this on a tablet like and those AMAZING joy sticks?!
Only time will tell
It's just a tablet with an Nvidia tegra. It is way slower than the regular PS4. We just got rid of the PS3 I really doubt FFXIV which is an MMORPG will come to a portable handheld. They better work it out with MS and bring FFXIV on XONE and Scorpio.
Not happening, especially with the specs and RAM it has
Isnt the Xbone issue still pretty much the same? that they want private servers? On that note idk how nintendo would react to that same issue, likely they would want private servers too.
Judging by the video even Zelda looks like it's running at 20FPS with almost nothing going on.
Seriously now, do you really think a handheld will be as powerful as a PS4?
If for some reason that happened the cost of the product would be insane and would be dead even before release.
We don't need another brick wall limited-by-consoles FFXIV.
Why drop PS3 to Support the Switch if the limitations would still be present? Even the PS4 isn't that good of a hardware, but should allow for some upgrades from the PS3 support drop.
Actually , if the switch is powered by the Tegra X2, (which would explain Skyrim SE) it would make the Switch as powerful as the basic Xbox One.
Furthermore, stop calling it "a handheld" because it´s a hybrid console that both works (And can be set up) as a home console, AND then it can be switched and pieced together to become a handheld.
How does running Skyrim SE make it as powerful as a Xbox One?
You realize devs downgrade their games depending on the Platform, just look at comparison videos between PS4 and XBOX One and you'll see.
Nintendo has been known for years to release consoles that aren't exactly technical masterpieces, aka outdated specs.
I hope i'm wrong but i highly doubt nVIDIA pulled something amazing out of Tegra.
Don't get me wrong, i'd buy the Switch if it was indeed as good as a base PS4 but i highly doubt it will happen.
As for porting it to the Switch don't forget it means spending resources on porting and not in the actual game.
[QUOTE=RobbieH;3907504]How does running Skyrim SE make it as powerful as a Xbox One? - The Tegra X2 PASCAL is currently being used to develop Switch games with a TFLOP output of 1.6ghz which puts it right over the Xbox one and just under the PS4.
You realize devs downgrade their games depending on the Platform, just look at comparison videos between PS4 and XBOX One and you'll see. - You realize this console is being developed with "ease of development" in mind right?
Nintendo has been known for years to release consoles that aren't exactly technical masterpieces, aka outdated specs. - Nintendo decided they didn't want to compete with the other 2 and decided for this last gen that they'd rather compete with themselves then having a peeny measuring contest with Sony and MS.
Know next to nothing about what is actually going under the hood and from the sounds of things, we have a group of people who're already dismissing this console because it MIGHT have lower specs then the PS4?
Well, even if it's about the same there's a big issue, it will cost dev time to port it and due to that we can't have other thing in the game.
Also the handheld screen is small, it might (might not) be a pain to play a MMO on it, i've tried to play on the PS Vita (I play on PC but have the game on PC and PS4) and forget it, things are so small it's not even worth the effort to start the remote play.
Then, if we have a PS4/Xbox One we bother with another console with about the same specs when Scorpio and Pro are coming?
Also on the Vita i don't have L2/R2 so i can't pretty much play, if the Switch doesn't have them too i don't see how the game would work on it.
PS4/XB1's GCN architecture is about 30% faster than R700 architecture used in Wii U, Pascal is ~40% faster than Polaris which is more or less the same as GCN flop to flop... ROUGH estimate, but Pascal should be about 90% faster than Wii U, flop to flop. (X1 is maxwell based, and again there isn't much difference between performance per flop with pascal)
For illustration purposes, X1 is 512GFLOPs, this is over 5 times faster than Wii U's 176 gflops (nearly 3 times faster than the 352gflops it sometimes gets confused to have) and somewhere around 60% of XB1's performance.
If NX is using Pascal (I don't see Nvidia pushing out another maxwell chip tbh) they can hit much higher clocks when docked, so even in the same configuration as X1 (256 cuda cores) if it is reaching 1.5ghz or 1.6ghz, you'll have 768 to 819GFLOPs (+40%) which gives you 1 to 1.15 TFLOPs, slightly under XB1. If the pascal chip is 3 SM, it would be completely possible to hit 1.228 tflops (+40%) which gives you 1.7tflops, or just under PS4's 1.843TFLOPs.
In order to reach those clocks, NX will have to have a fan in the body of the device, but that fan can be kept off while on the go, and be down clocked to 1/4th it's docked clock, which is perfect for 540p, it is also possible to waste battery and go with 1/2 it's docked clock so that it can have a terrible battery life and hit 720p. The dock can also offer a blower to help move air through the device, as long as the vents allow and the passive cooler fins are designed to be cooled from the side. An active cooler inside a device like this would be very interesting, as they could bridge the gap between devices.
Pay no attention to the speculation if you want, but Pascal is the only architecture that can bridge the gap between a handheld and a modern console.
Took that from a post up on NeoGAF and really wish I could cross reference with everyone up here on the forum side of www.gamesindustry.biz that're echoing the specs from developers that're working with the Switch's dev kits.
Suffice it to say - that IF these specs hold TRUE. the Switch is going to be down right dreamy (^-^)

and also:Quote:
Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor.
I'm afraid it will be expensive, if not it will die before it even releases, have to wait and see.Quote:
The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.
Yeah it does, good to know, i sw the video day one but didn't remember, so it will work fine, still the handheld screen is too small to be effective, might work for casual play but in End-game raiding it's probably a bad idea.
They're not dismissing the system in general. They are dismissing it as being probably too weak to last through several expansions of FFXIV. What good does it do to bring out FFXIV onto a new system, only to then kill all licenses for that system the next expansion? It does no good at all, and would probably hurt SE's rep if they tried that.
IF the system can handle it, and is strong enough (as is the PS4 and many PC's) to keep going for a number of expansions, then the only issue I can really see about it is trying to type with that controller. But, how big is that IF? So far as I know, Nintendo has not released that information yet.
And lets not forget, its a HYBRID console/handheld. That means something. It could be as powerful as a console, as a hand held. It could be as weak as a hand held, in the form of a console. More likely, its got some strengths of a console and some weaknesses of a handheld. It also defeats the purpose of it being a handheld if it has to be docked to get the most performance out of it.
I just hope it does not turn out ot be like the TG-16. That thing had cartridges designed to go both into it and into a handheld device. Text and whatnot had to be big enough to be readable on the small screen, but that made it way too big on the TV. This is Nintendo, so we have no idea if they learned anything from that.
Actually the Vita does have l2/r2. It's the touch pad on the back of the handheld. I've played ffxiv on it before, you just need a really strong internet connection because it's basically streaming audio/ video while the ps4 runs the game.
It was kinda laggy, but I was able to run leveling dungeons with it pretty well on my pld I wouldn't try anything like nin though, lol. Ofc I've since switched to a laptop for ffxiv on the go. XD
Look at my 1st response to you - X2 TEGRA: PASCAL - Meaning it's the Pascal version of the X2 Tegra chip that is potentially at the heart of the Switch's graphical capability.
When the PS4 and the Xbox One launched, they're reasonably expensive - With the Switch potentially running just under the original PS4 in performance - I can't see this thing being more expensive then say $299 - Smart money puts the price right in competition with the Xbox One @ $249 and maybe below that. So um - YEA - not to bad (^-^)
