Um, if you're refering to WoD, they had one patch and then a YEAR without content. This doesn't apply to FF14 at all. If 3.2 was the last patch, i'd agree, but this is not the case.

Could be okay... but could be the worst thing they could add. Depends if they would make them FATE-like similar to Odin and Behemoth. If they are just single party claims that's a problem and would lead the the monopolization of said NM by a very small select few FCs and promote claim bots further to compete for claims like in FFXI.
MNK has plenty of blades for weapons.

And personally I applaud them for caring enough about their own vision that they choose not to deviate just to pander to some specific Western demographic; a demographic which willingly subscribed to a franchise notable for it's inherently pretty and cute aesthetic I might add. Because some people want to see it added, it's SE's fault that they don't feel it's appropriate or appealing enough? This is honestly one of those things where I feel the consumers are "not allowed" to complain and just accept the fact that the Developers' visions do match up exactly with your idea of "If they want it, then add it. Definitely add it".
I agree 100% with you.
Let me put it in a way to get away from the misconception that I care about them not adding a ugly race - The part where "because Japan don't want it" is THE part that gets me, because as usual it just reminds me of how often we are overlooked in favour of them; which is absolutely fine, that's the audience they can directly communicate with whereas we just have to hope our requests get through at the behest of a forum CM. Seeing something being requested by the western fanbase for months and not even be acknowledged, just to go on the Japanese section and see a request from a Japanese player asking the same exact thing get a dev response with "oh, you'd like that? we never knew - good idea but let's see as many likes as possible to judge" reinforces the notion that we barely have requests or anything passed on... and of how much that does, is ignored?
So, again, seeing that "because Japan doesn't like it" line kind of makes me reflect on that again. Whether it is an actual precise translation of what was said I don't know, but it's included in the OP and such resulted in my reply to that one guy/gal.
As much as I am looking forward to an expanded inventory, all of these are very true. To really solve the problem we need to tackle the issue from both sides.
But yeah, with dropping PS3 support, this is the PERFECT opportunity to revamp systems like the Glamour system into something more on par with other games.
Oh god. Stop giving me nightmares. XDD
Why does "non-cute" automatically translate to "ugly" to you?
I too would prefer expanded creation options over a new race, though. I just think the excuse SE gave was silly and a bit insulting.
I hope those were just 2 monks fighting too, the only thing that felt like DNC to me about her were the clothes. Everything else though, felt 100% MNK. I hope this is how it works out too, since there's plenty of jobs they could be adding that would be way cooler than frekin DNC. Yes, I could be wrong of course but this is just the way I think and hope it'll work out. As far as new races, I agree with other people's stance that instead of a new race, they could expand upon the limited options we currently have.
Some predictions:
Raid
One of the raids will be tied to the main storyline this time and will be Ala Mhigo itself. Over the course of the expansion we'll take back the city from the Garleans. Once the Garleans have been fully removed then Ala Mhigo will become a normal player city and the location of the unnamed 4th housing location.
Jobs
I recall an interview in which Yoshi said they didn't want to tackle 3 jobs again due to the amount of work, but maybe that has changed. For now I will expect 2 and hope for 3.
Red Mage
A melee dps with support capabilities similar to BRD and MCH. Will focus on enhancing their weapon and mixing sword strikes and spells. Able to enhance their group's weapons to provide damage or resources, similar to songs and turret modes.
Dancer
Mobile healer that can chain dance steps together in different combinations to heal and buff their party.
Samurai*
Tank that focuses on counter attacks to damage and debuff targets.
*I tried finding info referenced in the OP's list that SAM wasn't coming, but I couldn't find ANY job talk reported on from the FanFest. The closest thing I could was when Yoshi was mentioning they had to choose between DRK and SAM for Heavensward. Maybe I missed some info?
So my guess is Pugilist will get an additional job path to Dancer, explaining why it shares some similarities to Monk. My question is if Samurai will be a dual sword wielding class, as that artwork of the new legatus is clearly showing a sword in the right hand, and a sheathed sword in his left. Parry confirmed?
I'm not getting on the dancer hype train yet. As much as I'd love it to happen, there's one big thing that's sticking out for me:
If they're going to show a dancer in action, why didn't they drop that hint first?
Think about it. Not a word about dancers, even though a lot of people think the girl was the dancer. The giant elephant in the room is curious.
I am totally hopping on the "That was Yda" train though. I don't have a doubt.
The thing is it hasn't been confirmed in this thread. The poster said that the information was from the Japanese investors page. I checked and found no mention to this. When asked for his source he said this:
So at this point I think this budget stuff is all hearsay/conjecture and maybe we shouldn't put much stock in it for now?
Swimming WTF... why would I swim anywhere when I can already fly?
SE please spend you money on better PVE content instead of swimming.
Swimming introduces new boss battle mechanics. WoW Tempest Keep Kael'thas fight, "Time to turn your world upside down!" Anti-gravity spell sends the whole raid flying through the air, needing to dodge his spells.
If there is no swimming in FFXIV they would not be able to be more creative in boss battles like this example.
Besides the Blue and Red auras of the 2 fighters, idk if anyone else noticed that the woman has hidden blades in her gauntlets that i saw come out and miss the guy twice, and in the artwork u can see one of them sticking up.
So she might very well be a new job, using a mix of martial arts, dancing, and hidden blades (so as some guessed, she very well might be DNC after all)
Also confirmed: The dude in the trailer is attractive af. SE why do you do this? :'(
Ah, I see. I did note your comment about you not caring about them not adding an "ugly" race, I was actually meant to remove that part from the quote since I was replying directly to the part about the Japanese playerbase liking and wanting certain things. With that said, I actually understand where you are coming from now. I really don't have any first-hand experience or evidence of this myself so it'd be unfair of me just to accept word of mouth despite how popular that notion is but I of course lean toward believing it's a real and recurring issue, perhaps even with this game, so I can sympathise with that frustration ; Sorry for the misunderstanding in any case, I was perceiving it along a different line of thought.
Moreover, an hidden blade as a main weapon would be very weird in a game where gear design and glamour are so proeminent. It would also create a problem with gear design since it would mean that every armor for this job would need big sleeves to "hide" the weapon, meaning you can't use the same armor skins as any other job (unless you take out sleeveless or tight sleeves armors from these jobs too).
I thought it was common knowledge that they really regretted their decision to have both Summoner and Scholar come from the ARcanist class. They REALLY don't want to do another one class->two jobs thing again. They're trying to get away from classes, that's why HW jobs did not come with base classes!
IF Dancer does branch off pugilist...
I hope I would be able to use the emperor's new hora on it.
Best Monk weapon glamor in my opinion. ;P
Yes, a lot of FF XIV profit will go into inventory expansion ^^
Not so long it is a Microsoft console or until Microsoft change their cross-platform policy.
If you mean that little jumping up and down before her Shoulder Tackle (1:19), i think it was Featherfeed.
What does OP mean by "almost became" for Viera and Samurai?
Haven't been following the news so i'd like to know if it has been confirmed what the new jobs are.
True you could be right that it does look like Feather Foot. Just odd they would use a moveset that is being tossed out for being useless.
But your right it does look similar to featherfoot. o/
Before DRK came out* Yoshi stated they were about to make SAM but decided not to because Yoshi did not find SAM to be a Tank class. Don't remember the Viera talk though. o/
edit:
Here is the interview.
In terms of how fans reacted, it makes me think ‘so if we were to put in a Samurai, how is it going to play into the realm of Final Fantasy XIV? Would it be a tank? But that doesn’t seem to make sense because Samurai seems to be more of a DPS. Or if we were to go in the vein of a tank, wouldn’t it be a Shogun?’ those kind of thoughts start brewing in my head

For clarification on something the OP mentioned, It was between flying, swimming, or underground. (Before 2.0 it was between jumping, flying, swimming or climbing, with hints of swimming being the prefered option to take, but he didnt think climbing or swiming would be good additions to the game, and even thinks jumping wasnt that great, but would probably be good to add, to mimic WoW.)
While flying won, yoshida then said swimming or underground MIGHT be whats next. With strong hints he'd prefer to make underground probably because its way easier.
Later he also added the moon as a possible location we go to in the expansion, making the choices swim, underground, or moon, which he then was hinting more towards the moon. (this was announced back in 3.0)
