As much as I want the chinese dress... it is overpriced and not worth it. Disgusting money grabbing by SE
Is there any significant culture aspect attached to it, and have Chinese people historically been offended by its appropriation by the west? If not, then you need to shut up.
I guess the EXP bonus is a legit means to bump up the price, but you can get a new indie/old game for the amount they are charging for... dress pieces. I'm pretty dissapointed by these prices myself, especially because I want the far-Eastern dress for my char.
I very much doubt either of these majorities are actual majorities, but if you have real statistics to back them up, I'll happily stand corrected! Hardcore glamour enthusiasts are very likely NOT that majority of players in this game. They're noisy on the forums, to be sure, but if SE catered to anyone who was noisy on the forums this game would go downhill fast.
As for the leveling potion - you don't have to dig far into the forums to come across pages and pages of players moaning and groaning about all the cutscenes they have to wade through before they can get to the "good stuff" - AT LEAST as many as you'll see people talking about what a disaster the leveling potion would be. Some folks just don't care about storyline; others care, but really want to get to endgame and are intimidated by the oceans of filler quests in the way.
Personally, I blame SE's design decision to make each expansion a linear continuation of both the story and the game's leveling mechanics - that's going to bite them hard once we get a few expansions in, and new players suddenly realize that in the time it takes them to catch up, another expansion will have come and gone... Truth is, I sympathize with folks who want story-skip potions. As much as I wish everyone had the free time to enjoy the story properly, it IS a whole lot to deal with...
People are confusing P2W and PFC (pay for convenience). An experience buff to level 30 isn't P2W - it would have to offer an advantage players can't get unless they pay to make it fit that term.
Just putting this out there, ESO does it right. You get a credit equal to the amount you pay for a sub in their crown store.
Charging for a sub + retainers + having a high cost cash shop without a system like this is a slap in the face.
choose what you want to buy, if the demand meet, then the price is not a problem.. if u think it is overprices and not the item you want to buy, then lets just get over it.. and it is just glamours, not stuffs that will help u kill endgame.. i dont even buy that moggle mount coz it is not what i wanted too..
btw im pretty glad that SE put the stuffs in mogstation to sell esp this religion exclusive items and it is just USD18... you ppl wont want it ended up like that GAMEMASTER Magazine(promotional event) for the maid attire, it wasted more time and money into mag/stuffs we don't need..
"I would consider in terms of items, optional things that would change the aesthetics like your skin color or your race but not your stats. If it’s like the Ring of Yoshida, it’s cool but it can cross the line and help you clear end game content and help you beat certain monsters. That has the risk of people calling the game pay-to-win. That’s not something I want to do." - Naoki Yoshida

Emphasis mine.
I bought Benny the day it was released and used it for like a week. I haven't really bought anything since then but a couple Phantasia. Not really planning on buying from there again. Not at those prices. I really wanted the dress or Stola's hair, but not that much.
Actually, that's not really true. Even the "official" (calling urban dictionary official hurts..xD) definition is about buying stuff that gives you a significant edge over other players, but never mentions it has to be completely unobtainable for those who do not pay.
A very common - and dreaded - version of P2W is fully upgraded/enchanted/melded/etc. endgame gear that can be bought in the CS, because by paying, you instantly have the strongest gear available in the game.
Said gear is usually not unobtainable ingame - it's just fairly hard to get. It also eliminates any and all motivation to even bother working on getting it ingame when everyone can just whip out their credit card and get it that way.
THAT's what most people talk about when they are talking about P2W.
Also, even by your standards, this could qualify - because it is the ONLY non-head exp bonus item in the entire game. You can not obtain that in any other way than by buying it from the Mogstation, so yeah, we have effectively hit "P2W".
It's not exactly a problematic area yet (because exp is already an overabundance), but it is a dangerous first step to take.
I wish the items were for all of your characters or had that option, like the maid outfit
Well, I meant to say "the only body gear with such a bonus" but it's a set bonus so I didn't know how else to put it since I'm not proficient enough in the English language.
What I mean is, it's the only gear in said slot (body/pants/feet) that gives such a bonus, so if you are going for maximum efficiency, you would need to wear exp bonus hat, exp bnous ring and exp bonus body. Both others are/were available through the game itsself, either as a bonus item when buying the game or from the Hall of the Novice ingame, which is not the case for this slot though, that has no other option available.
And those updates come at a cost. If the devs go back and make adjustments to ARR's story, they will need to rewrite scripts, potentially redo voice acting for large chunks and even reanimate whole scenes because the story has to tie together. Much as I may despise the whole Company of Heroes nonsense. It would be incredibly jarring if you just hopped over to Titan after one conversation. All of this costs money. Therefore, those funds will be allocated to a portion of the expansion none of us will ever see unless we went back to level an alt. That is why I actually support the jump potion. He allows the devs to focus on new content, not tweaking old stuff.
While I'm not sure about why the Fat Moogle Mount is so expensive, I think SE might have to pay some kind of Royalty or Liscensing fee for having the Chinese exclusive items in the game.
Those items weren't made by SE for this version of the game, they were made for the Chinese servers, which is owned and ran by another company. It's almost like a commission.
Maybe the $3 extra dollars helps pay for it...?

White knights will justify anything.
I see your point, but the way you see America as ONE or TWO continents depends on the place you live or where you are from. I was teach in my country that there is just ONE America, south or north is just use for positioning references. I give the point that The United States, is the only one country that uses the name America on its name. Got to admit that bugs me a little when I heard some said "I'm an American", and I should assume that person is from USA, I'm not from USA, but I'm from an American country as well. But, lets just play video games and be happy :)

a detailed guide
So let me get this right, everyone complained about how they wanted it, now you can buy it and your mad about the price? They didn't have to bring it over and your complaining? This community never ceases to amaze me.
I'm not speaking for everyone, but what I think what the problem is that: A. It has nothing but 3 pieces. B. Most sets priced like that usually have an emote and/or hairstyle included, which would be why it was a bit pricey. However, the emote isn't included, and there's no special hairstyle included. It's not worth 18 dollars. Not at all. I could see it being cheaper like all the other seasonal outfits. The emote is overpriced. 7 dollars?? It should be 3 dollars like all the rest.
That's where I think the problem lies. At least...that's what I think.
Your argument makes absolutely no sense.
Cash Shop items are optional in the sense that they are obtained OUTSIDE the game and are obtained with real life currency, and are not part of the gameplay and features offered within the main game.
While they are, of course, usable in-game, they are not part of what you obtain by purchasing the game and paying your fee (Unlike the things you described) and thus they are OPTIONAL EXTRAS.
The usage of the word optional for both scenarios is completely different.
If you cannot understand such a simple concept, maybe you should not call people idiots.....
