And yeah it was, to an extent but only in a raid and ads is kinda forgettable
It doesn't really count because it wasn't optional. It was -mandatory-. The only choices were dependent on your party setup. But you weren't making it to ADS without going left or right through rooms.
I used to have a group of 10ish friends that I'd hang out with every day for all of 3.0-3.2....
Now when I log in everyday, 1-3 people in my friend list are on: the guy that I did one dungeon with once, the guy who occasionally creeps on me & some person that I struggle to remember how they're on my friend list.
All of my friends got bored & left. All of them. People I'd spent hours everyday laughing with, now I chat a few times a day at most, 90% of which is party chat. My FC had 20+ active people 3+ months ago....now I log in & sometimes every other day some other person gets on. I haven't held a solid conversation in MONTHS.
I still had fun, I still do have fun the week of the new patches, but even I think I am getting worn out. Leveling & 50 I dread doing & feel more like torture than fun. But I need those esos for my 240 relic....which is the only thing keeping me around. I have all jobs geared with 220-240 etc, there is just nothing left to do(that is fun)Even sephi/nid & savage used to intrigue me but I just don't even care anymore. It makes me sad.
If anything, I'd like them to stop putting everything into huge patch updates.
Why not work on things as they go, then when they're truly done, ship them out?
It gets rid of the monotony, it gives everyone something to look forward to every two weeks and keeps subscribers.
This thread should be re-titled:
"THE OFFICIAL I AM BURNT OUT THREAD"
Take a break if you're just logging on as a matter of rote, rather than actively looking forward to doing specific things in the game.
'Got to do my dailies' isn't that.
There's other things to do in life apart from hours and hours staring at a screen in dissatisfaction. The developers can only add new content at a certain pace.
If you're getting through that faster than it's produced then scale your time back or just take a break.
Come back refreshed, you'll find it's far more enjoyable than being glued to the monitor getting increasingly depressed.
Don't be concerned about other people somehow getting ahead of you - so what?
You'll have a far better and balanced outlook spending time doing a few other things and treating this game, and any game, as just a smaller part of your activities.
No offense but I've stated in previous posts this cycle of content some people like yourself keep asking for is what dcuo has, nobody responds or listens THIS CYCLE YOU WANT IS PARTLY WHAT RUINED DCUO! You want to see what that cycle does go to dcuo, you'll see real quick. Why do people have to be so stubborn in their thoughts & ways? I'm sorry if I offended anyone by shouting but I did it because it's like what people says goes in 1 ear & out the other on here.
fc alliances, piloting own fc airship, (maybe fc-fc ranked pvp) a dueling area to have fun with friends(maybe even a craftable sparring rink for personal rooms), gathering crafting party bonus AND LB(make partying u great again) hell screw the hallway, lets just have a dungeon be a crappy Circle that drops enemies down constantly than plops the obligatory boss in the middle, i mean why bother walking forward for 15 minutes?(lazy time attack dungeon) being able to gather in dungeons like diadem or make openworld dungeons, idk the list goes on to suggestions and promises on both ends. as far as hw, yeah i didnt really like that several jobs had their gameplay changed for seeminly no reason("baaaaaalaaaaaaaance" - yet as pointed out with wm initial dmg boost and AA sacrifice being a dps loss) ah well i could go on and on forever, the tomes grind is probably my biggest demotivator
1. There isn't enough content, I seriously don't know where people keep getting this, each patch cycle isn't keeping people around for the 3 month span as it did in 2.0. Don't even tell new to level up a side job, grab all the minions, cards, or level a craft, because that's not new content, that's running existing content because there is nothing else. When you're 2 weeks into a patch and the content is already dried up, that either means A your content isn't diverse enough or B you're not putting out enough.
2. There are a ton of QoL updates that have come off the forum, obviously not everyone wants the same thing, but when people cry about nothing having a glamour book, better fc functions, joining dungeons with birds out, or the fact when you do a hefty amount of GC turnins the game has the need to spam the completion sound effect. And SE isn't attempting to fix these things and they been out here since 2.0, it's apparent they have a lack a interest, but hey let's add that RP icon instead.
3. I don't really care about Egis since I don't play SMN or SCH to bother, was again merely making a point about something that was asked for a very lengthy amount of time and they kept sweeping it under the rug.
4. It's not just the Diadem they left die, how about ALL of the Gold Saucer content that has failed? LoV and TT have gone no where fast, what about Chocobo racing, where are the updates to that? One update to "fix" the Diadem issue isn't going to fix the fact Diadem NEEDS to be updated EVERY patch just like Palace of the Dead will need to be as well.
5. Live letters every month and you think that's good enough? That's like getting a news letter from your job, but then your bosses don't tell you anything other than "Please look forward to it!" Where are the community polls? Where are the community managers in game hyping up content? Go look at Blizzard, not just WoW but the entirety that is Blizzard, their community managers are active and even do play dates. This game can and deserves a lot better than what we get.
6. FF14 dev team should be the biggest and strongest department at SE. I mean this is the only successful new MMO out on the market currently, and it's not like they only profited about 1.4 billion last year. Looks like they have as decent amount there to back up one of their few successful game teams with some extra help.
This is one way to handle it, yes. But this is treating the symptom and not the illness. Naturally, everyone is aware that we can stop playing at any time we want (I recently did, for about two months). But instead many in this thread are first asking "Why am I burnt out? Why is this happening so soon? So frequently? What can be changed to prevent it?" since we have no control over the game, we're trying to answer these questions where the developers can hear us or join in the discussion, so we're on the forums.
Telling people to take a break is like a doctor telling you to take painkillers for that pain in your gut you're having. It will help you with your symptoms sure, but eventually the appendix that Doctor didn't look at is going to burst. Taking a break is great, but it doesn't solve any of the underlying issues with FFXIV being brought up in this thread.
Hey, sorry for slow reply. I forgot I even posted this, but yah. New classes and a story isn't really content. Yes story is super nice in this game, no doubt, however.... Content should been a step up, it's the same pattern we had in 2xx and I want it to elvole and grow bigger. More raids in different ways, more challenges, more fc content, more things that is rewarding and fun to do and not burning you out and make it look like a job. That would be a great start.
This thread has more feedback than most threads in this forum and reddit together even the OP's post in the past. Why? First of all, look at how the content has been in the past vs now. It's different skins and same thing. Things I did 1 year and half ago is happening again. Ixal quest = moogle quest currently. How is that even burning out? I thought content meant new things to do not a replay. Feels like an offline game than anything. Last time I checked we pay sub for this to evolve not to backstep content.
Hey agan Reiryuu, how are you!? Been a while I had a discussion with you! Anyways. Yes we do, but the content we currently have is the same we had 2 years ago. New skin just same thing.
Look at my reply up to the other persons how ixal quest is a copy of moogle one, it's the same thing, 99% copy. The content we have isn't even used by 50% by players. I'm prety sure many find gathering boring as hell and only want or need to do it for money, it's a nice trait to have but me personaly have lvl 0 on my gathering because it's boring. Why should I forced to do something when it's not fun? Remember when Yoshida said if it's not fun you are doing it wrong
Then let me add, content we have doesn't have a high value. When I say value its very small reward in them. Niddhogg extreme 6 main stats more and that's it, for casters its 1 more weapon dmg the rest isnt. Then another thing to add, adding more egi glamours etc or more doesnt mean more content. This is just another added thing, which I do like to have but content!!! More things to do, different mechanics, way to obtain gear more social events etc. I'm not so good at adressing what we can have or should have but seen soo many post here and on reddit and many ideas are amazing!
If I stopped playing, I would lose my house... But I want to take a break, since there's not much content atm.... But I can't unsub because house... But I don't want to waste my sub money by not playing.... GAH!
I just think they need to add more content to do OUTSIDE of daily dungeons & weekly raids &/or some type of "horizontal gear" like very simple things that won't break the game such as "berserk lasts 5 seconds longer but pacification is increased to 10 seconds", "sentinel's damage reducion is reduced to 30% but it's recast is 30 seconds shorter" or generic ones like "_____ (OGCD) is now 30 potency weaker but it now has a 3 second stun" & you can have up to say 3 per job....
I just made that up but I get excited at the idea.
Anyway Deep Dungeon is a good example of outside content & I am looking forward to it. Diadem is also a good idea(bad execution) & I can't wait to see it reworked in 3.4(if Yoshi keeps his word)
I have a few thoughts to add the topic as well.
The game does have plenty of content and stuff to do, quite a bit more than most people might think. A lot of the complaints I see are from the combat content or lack thereof. I want to say that I absolutely agree with that sentiment in the sense that if you only want to do combat it's just grinding the same two dungeons once a day to get your weekly cap done and no matter what side content they add or other things to do, there is STILL only those two dungeons to do to hit your weekly cap. It does get tedious, I personally want there to be at least 7-10 max level dungeons in the expert roulette, just to mix it up so I'm not running the same two dungeons until I'm absolutely sick of them.
I refuse to do the 60 roulette solely because I'm sick of every dungeon in there, I will only go to help a friend, having more new dungeons would at least relieve the tedium to a degree. I don't necessarily disagree with their formula, but I'd like to see more ways to shake it up, for example, instead of the 75 tomestones from your first ex roulette, what if you could get the full 75 from the ex roulette or weeping city or alexander? Let you pick what activity you wanted to do for the day if you didn't feel like running a dungeon?
That being said though, if you are only playing this game for the combat content I do feel you're missing out, the gathering and crafting systems in this game are pretty deep and offer a fairly large amount of story quests and content to do. While I do know it's not old content, there is a whole lot of it you're missing out on if you only focus on the combat stuff. Sure the gold saucer is kind of dead in the water, but the chocobo racing does provide an interesting solo experience. My point being there is a lot outside of non-combat stuff and you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least check it out.
Here's my character: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...cter/11140107/
I capped the combat classes and after that I really got in to crafting and didn't even realize how deep and engaging it could be, especially hunting for the rare materials to make that one really nice piece of armor. Working with other crafters to make some of those rare items along with playing as a gatherer to obtain those rare items. There is some grinding involved but hitting the unspoiled nodes isn't so bad once you get a rotation going, then you can start farming crafting/gathering gear like a champ.
Thing about this game, content, there is alot of it but not valid content. We have 80% non combat content which is in my opinion bad. First of all I always played FF games because of epic battles or fighting in general along with great storyline. FFXI (sorry I mentioned this) had amazing fights and epic fighting analogs and what not. This game started of amazing, it really did but like my best friend irl life, who actually got me into this game quit 6 monts after release because he knew it be excactly like this and he was never wrong. He ask me if anything change but nothing. Alot of promises that never happened, like primals showing up in open world etc. In my opinion this game was never ready for the market when it first was released. There is alot of things that was never at release that this game needed badly. They should waited and added things and remove things we done use. Look at your character bar, resist? Useless and why is it still there after 3 years almost?
The problem on my end is that I've been playing since 2.2. The release of 3.x with how they handled red scrips and crafting gear in general completely took out the fun out of gathering and crafting for me. As a veteran player, these aren't "new things" for me to get into, it's something I've done and something they really haven't done much as far as adding to it is concerned.
I don't know... I've been gone six months and just came back. There was a lot of new story content to do and now I'm working on actually gearing up again with a ways to go. I've been playing MMOS for 20 years and the "not enough content" threads pop up all the time in every single MMO game I've played.
Now, I will agree that Heavensward really felt like more of the same and I think there needs to be some thing to shake up the game a bit in the next expansion. But anyone who plays a game constantly without a break will eventually run out of things to do and get bored.
I don't want game to change. Those getting burnt out a lot should find a game more suited to them instead of asking the game to change to suit them.
How in the flying f_ck is the game going to change if they add more content and more THINGS to do? I don't get your mentality sorry, I really don't. If not it would also be a nice thing for you too, unless you like to go for numb content you been doing every day for 3 years. Yes 3 years.
Nvm:
https://gyazo.com/8f531bc6c2163d00b2883589fb91bb80 I saw this on your profile and you aren't even max level, so ofc you wouldn't understand XD.
I was responding to those wanting formula to change. And just because this character is not maxed doesn't mean I haven't experienced endgame content.
This game launched in 2010, six years ago. Six years into FFXI, there were more than 15 different endgame events, while keeping the same level cap of 75, so your gear drops actually mattered. FFXIV has one relevant raid. The current formula continues to phase out old content, while only adding a small amount at a time.
I joined this game 2 months before HW released. I told myself years ago that I wouldn't play this game, based on some of the reviews from my friends who left XI to join the beta. I figured 5 years into this game, there has to be tons of fun endgame content. I was wrong, I left after a few months of playing. Just recently returned about a month and a half ago. I enjoy playing, leveling more jobs, crafting and gathering, etc. But I can see why people want more depth.
I would rather have 15 different events than 1 raid. Wouldn't you?
god open world roaming primal fates like odin, except garuda, titan, or ifrit wandering around would be so fun...
i quit the game in 1.0, so i never really experienced 1.0, but i would love if their was something like that, and maybe contested territory stuff like in ffxi, except garlean invasion? idk.
You're right in that anyone will get burnt out on any game (or anything) at some point, but depending on how that game is designed the time until burn out hits could be minutes (tic-tack-toe) or hundreds of hours (Skyrim). An MMORPG wants that burn out point to be as far away as possible, because it keeps subscribers and makes the developer money. MMO Players want the same thing because it gives us an enjoyable game for longer. The issue with FFXIV isn't mainly "Not enough content", but instead it's "Lack of variety in content". FFXIV releases robust patches at a good clip, but the content released also contains the same basic premise as every patch that came before it. To make matters worse, every patch replaces the content from the patch before instead of adding to it. These things make us hit the burn out point much faster than we should, thus our suggestions in this and other threads.
Mildly off topic, but did you ever play FFXI during the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion? They had a piece of content called Besieged where the various Beast Tribes would build up their forces and attack a hub city every so often. The players would fight them back alongside important npcs inside the walls of that city. Winning gave the entire server rewards and the individual players based on their participation. It was and still is the most epic thing I've ever done in an MMORPG.
In FFXIV it has been bothering me that the most important summons in Final Fantasy history have basically been monster-of-the-week for the 2.x patches and we haven't seen or even talked about them since (with one exception or two). I always thought it would be awesome if Besieged returned in FFXIV and the beast tribes attacked our hub cities with their primal leading the charge. This would give us new battle content as well as keeping some iconic pieces of Final Fantasy relevant beyond their brief appearances in the 2.x story.
I agree 100% with that post.
Heckyes I played beseiged! I just found my old SE account with my level 70 taru whm. I totally forgot about beseiged, I was thinking outpost shit and WOTG campaign battles. A well executed beseiged would be amazing and def bring back life imo.
I just unsubbed and don't have plans to renew, but in part this is always perspective. Game burnout is real and priorities change. I left because FFXIV's style no longer fits my interests as a player, and the niche content that gave me a good challenge for awhile (PVP) is dead.
That would leave only EX/Savage content as something that I can really immerse myself in outside of the few aspects of the story that I enjoyed, and it's not worth it. Pretty much any game out there has a larger community than FFXIV's raiders, and is easier to meet people and network in.
Letting go of a game is hard. I made many friends here I talk to outside of the game, but I feel like I'm wasting my time when I log in. Instead of FFXIV, I could be meeting new people to talk strategy with in HotS or playing Terraria all night with friends and tackling bosses blind. In FFXIV, I sit in front of the FC house and listen to people talk about glamour, crafting, and RP in between scant story content and PVP that's mostly PVE every ~3 months.
Treasures of Aht Urghan was such a great expansion from 11. Besieged, Nyzul Isle, Salvage, Einjherar, znms and Pandemonium Warden. All better content, than what currently exists in 14.
Yeah back in 2007(8) I also decided to buy it for my laptop while I was visiting family and friends in cali (I come from norway). That expension pack was beautiful and amazing. That's what it should be like. The merit points was also a good direction on how battle system can get notch up as well. Lots of content and thigns that was good to do for a long time.
Heavensward wasn't exactly an expansion, and expansion means expanding, what happened was that they killed all ARR dungeons, Raids and Coil giving no reason to do them.
What exactly was expanded with Heavensward? Adding a new Raid, a new End-game Raid, new Dungeons that most of them are worthless, specially lvl 60 ones that have already been killed, no real reason to do them unless people are farming for tomes, Void Ark is pretty much dead too, Savage only people who are on A8S either in progress or farm keep it alive but the rest of the raid community doesn't log at all anymore due to waiting for next Tier.
So much for expanding.
I still have 100 days left to play, and i regret it, because as a raider there's pretty much nothing to do, the new ilvl with another weekly locked tomestone and one new end-game raid every 6 months kills it for me, as a raider i can say this game is a disgrace, i'm afraid i'm going to "take a pause", however like many the pause seems to be permanent unless they change how things have been working, i'm also someone who enjoys PvP, Feast is already dead, Shatter will follow.
Everytime they release content they kill content, they give absolutely no reason to do previous content, i'll never understand this.
I'll log from time to time to keep my house in case i come back, but right now this game isn't worth it from a raider point of view, unless again, you're on A8S.
As I said in an earlier post - If all you do is one thing (raid, pvp, ect) then it is quite obvious that FFXIV isn't for you. If you do a little bit of everything (this is a theme park mmo), then you have a mountain of never ending content. Hopefully you find something that fulfills your gaming needs.
How come this game isn't for me if i'm only unhappy with it now? You came to that conclusion only after all these years that i've been playing?
Yeah let's change nothing, i want to see how many end-game raid clears will there be in 3.4 LOL
Raiders are leaving, the content doesn't appeal to them due to the poor rewarding system, i don't get the mentality of white knighting "oh take a break", "oh this game isn't for you", seriously stop telling people what's good for them or not just because you don't understand what's going on.
You don't understand what's going on so please don't comment if you have nothing useful to bring to discuss.
Raiders leaving = SE losing money, losing money = less content for everyone, less content for everyone = more unhappy people, more unhappy people = more unsubs, more unsubs = less money, repeat.
Nice logic, let's change nothing.
Just because you don't agree with what I said doesn't mean that it doesn't apply. This game isn't just about raids and doesn't cater only to those that do. It's designed much more to the casual, "do everything" crowd.
As for the "white knighting", it's quite common to hear that term thrown out when a complainer interacts with those who don't agree or actually refute their complaints. So, how about you take your own advice, stop telling those of us who enjoy the game as is, how it should be 'better' just because you don't care to do anything but the one or two things that interest you.
Here's some business education for you: Raiders = maybe 10% of the population, if they leave.. that's just 10%. Casuals = about 90%. Who do you focus most of your business model towards? Basic math there. So there's your logic. There will always be raiders, they come and go. It's those that log in for only a couple of hours a day, who's always got an active subscription that keep the lights on.
So, do we change things just for a tiny vocal minority who is only going to leave anyway? Doubt it.
Raiders can leave but they have nowhere to go. What other game offers competitive raiding the way XIV does? Your logic is flawed regardless. Everyone knows hardcore raiders are a minority when it comes to playerbase activity. That\\'s why games like WoW made "endgame" more accessible. It\\'s nice that they cater to endgame raiding as much as they do. If they wanted the most subs they wouldn\\'t focus on hardcore endgame.
