I don't want a cute, little, tacky Wyvern pet following me around. Ew.
I don't want a cute, little, tacky Wyvern pet following me around. Ew.
I am playing that new Skylanders game, I have my purple little dragon already ;p
I would love to have my wyvern back, personally.
Fact: Ishgard hates Dragons.
Fact: Sharlayan/Dravania has a dragon race.
Fact: Dragoon is a Dragonslayer.
NOT Fact: Ishgard is tolerant of people having dragons/wyverns for pets.
Conclusion: Eff off, FFXI.
FACT: The Storyline for the game is being re-written. Something being included to have a pet added could easily be fit in with any scrub doing a fan fiction -- never mind a professional writer.
Conclusion: No matter which way people wanna cut it its totally possible to be added in if enough people asked for it.
Incorrect.
They are retaining all pre-existing lore. The Echo will still be in, and altering Ishgard away from their anti-dragon religious mentality is potentially damaging to the game's setting. It sets a bad precedent.
You clearly have not done any practice in world design. Retconning half a world is just stupid, and creates more problems than you need to deal with.
And no, I don't think it would still make any sense, because Dragoons are generally a sanctioned "order" of warriors originating from Ishgard. The GamerEscape interview indicates that there will be a "Legendary Dragoon of Ishgard", which strongly suggests there will NOT be a pet wyvern.
If there are going to be any pet classes, it will probably be on the Disciple of Magic side of things.
Wrong, they're doing rewrites. I didn't sy they're starting from scratch.
The point is indisputable. If enough people wanted it it could easily accompdated regardless of what bizarre way you want to dissect this. Disagree all you want but the absolute fact of the matter is it could be done seeing as they are re-doing things. Tanaka said there would never be summoners because they're Gods. Now whats going on with that... oh yeah, a smn class is being added into the game.
Lol, forrealz? Wow I didn't know I was that transparent. Thankfully we're not talking about programming or anything in that vein and talking about a game and what we would like to see in classes.
Nice trite answer though. Hilarious.
Strongly suggest? So... there hasn't been an exact yes or no to it? So in other words the storyline could be curved to fit something if enough people wanted it? Yeah - you can try and speak in absolutes all you want but again the fact remands absolutely nothing is set in stone. With rewrites on the board its absolutely possible.
IF? Me think you haven't read the latest article where Yoshi flat out states there will be a Summoner class and a Beast Master class (taming) on top of mentioning the rewrites.
Yeah - know what you're talking about next time. Thats always help full.
Fact : I want Dragoon to be like Kain highwind Dragoon, not FFXI dragoon.
You're grasping at thin air, bub.
I don't see why they would re-write the main scenario quests. Now, I would see them ADAPTING the cutscenes to the new engine and environments that will be implemented in 2.0, but re-writing the dialogue and the backstory? Hell no.
From a storytelling standpoint, rewriting already-established lore a full year after the game has been launched is not only insulting to the game's veterans, it damages the atmosphere for the future of the game. Not to mention, it also hurts continuity.
And, Summoner could still be associated with lesser summons (elementals like Earth Golems), while Primals would require a GROUP/Free Company for summoning. Like the scene of the Amalj'aa summoning Ifrit.
Seriously, you're dense. Not worth my time - I do know what I am talking about, and I think you're full of hot air.
And on the point of having world-design experience, have you designed an entire IP for a graphic novel series, or even any form of media? Apart from your own private imagination where you jerk off to your ego, of course.
to the OP Thread title , I hope not.
Yes, and when it happens in said MMO's it's typically for the worst. Destroying the continuity of the game's story and lore by retroactively changing it is a dangerous thing when handled poorly and freely like you're suggesting. It's great that you couldn't care less about what's going on, but many of us do.
Im with you Doku i really hope we do get the pet too.
They have said pets are coming for multiple jobs/classes next year!
The fact that the NPC summons different monsters to his aide i think arcanist will have one of these abilities.
and i have a feeling that chocobos will be able to fight along side you at some point too.
Its very exciting ^^
Not a fan of the pet, at all. I'd like my power to be consolidated in my own skills rather than have my strength gimped and transferred into a pet. Let me keep destroying stuff with my polearm and not worry about having some annoying dragon taking some of that from me for the sake of game balancing, please.
:< why can't we just let it go! >:O want a pet? wait for the Beast Tamer job/class grrrr xD
Because some of us want our pet back and see it in this new game, with its infinitely better graphics engine, a chance to correct a lot of the errors from 11. Also a chance to make it far more intuitive and useful then last time.
I and some are for it - others are against. Thats forums and opinions for ya.
to be honest, the Dragoons of old where better then the FFXI version.
There where many things Dragoon could do in the past, and many of them where pretty cool....
FFV
"Lance" it was a HP/MP drain
FFIX
"Dragon" was a command that opened up tons of Dragon abilities
examples:
"Reis's Wind" Casts Regen on all party members
"Cherry Blossom" Deals non-elemental magic damage to all enemies.
FFXII Revenant Wings (ok not a past game but what ever ;p)
Breath attacks of different elements
If they some how combined all of this in some form for Dragoon in FFXIV, I would rather a unique thing like that then to have a pet again as in FFXI.
Im so sick of people saying Bla bla bla go play XI to get all the fun cool stuff bla bla bla. I played XI for 7 Years, Im all burnt out from XI. i don't want to go back just to get that awesome Purple Suit of Armour with my Bad ass Dragon. those should be here and now in XIV the NEW game
I'll say it again: I want my dragon pet without the Dragoon class/job/polearm or no dragon pet at all.
Yes, there is the possibility of a PLAYABLE dragon and demi-human race coming.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/26096
>>Q: On the upper left hand corner of the white board, "Female Highlander", "Male Miqo'te", "Female Roegadyn" and "Must Have". Does this mean that new races could be added?
A: It's more like something we must have in the game and it's a meeting log from when we were talking about adding them as soon as possible. After we calculate the cost, we will first add the things that are must have. After that, we would like to move on to introducing other races such as Demi Human and Dragons.<<
Would be nice, but I doubt they'll add them.
To all those who say "Ishgard hates dragons bla bla bla" In XI there was also a group of dragonslayers that kept the number of dragons extremely low and there were very few who actually formed pacts with the wyverns to increase their overall abilities.
Oddly enough even with this lore in place of dragoons being extinct and never able to increase their ranks the story unlocked where the player actually tapped into the acnient dragoon ways to become one themself.Quote:
NPC chat from XI Dragoon quest
Ceraulian : I heard that to become a dragoon, you had to make a pact with a living wyvern. However, thanks to the dragonslayers, there aren't that many dragons left.
Arminibit : The dragon slayers keep down the number of deadly dragons, but the number of dragoons can never go up. It's a sad, sad cycle.
Arminibit : They say that King Ranperre's top vassal, the "Last of the Dragoons," collapsed after a battle with a dragonslayer.
tl;dr its completely possible for Dragoons to have a pet dragon, Yoshi-P said that there will be refference to the legendary dragoon of Ishgard not us going to Ishgard and becoming dragoons. Also the rumored dragon race, will they be hunted by Ishgard aswell?
The lore does not need to be re-written to add a pet for dragoon just needs to be written in with refference to the already in-place lore with even more lore to fill in the gaps.
According to the info released they will not have dragon pets. Dragoon will be like Kain from FFIV. I find it very disappointing, but it's entirely possible that they will add a dragon pet one day.
Well seriously then i dont need a dragoon job if its just the same as lancer.... in my opinion.
you all are so boring ... i love petclasses and play them with passion. reading comments like "oh well never cared about that flying thing to my side.."
I really cant believe what i read... how can you be so "passionless"? ;D
i loved my wyvern and the job as a dragoon.. i think its boring to only have a pole weapon and thats it...ouuh well i forgot about the "dump" useless jump attacks. well then.. i stick to play a lancer.. i loved that the dragoon in FFXI was a hybrid petclass. and i dont care if it's traditional for a dragoon not to have a wyvern .....
with the upcoming job system we still dont have a petclass thats VERY disappointing and boring.. i dont like to have just standard classes. -.-
Because for me a lancer is still just some kind of dragoon without pet.. oh just the ">amazing<" jump attack is missing! *sarcasm off*
and why we doubt that? because existing classes are boring.. and with the upcoming 1.21 patch they still will be boring standard
i just put my hope into black and white mage or bard... woho -.-
I'd be a DRG if the armor were cool :P hopefully not as Barney looking this time 'round.
Well since everyone here wants to pick XI's Dragoon as "the" Dragoon (since they're too closed-minded to open up to other avenues of possibilities) from here on out, I will only hope for the original incarnation of Dragoon.
Dragoon's first appearance in FF: As Dragonriders.
Traditional definition of "Dragoon": Mounted calvary.
Well darnit, if we don't get to fight while riding a Dragon/Horse mount this just ain't gonna be a Dragoon. /armfold. /pout.
Dragoon's/Lancer has never had pet drake in any other game except for FFXI. Even in FFXI I cannot figure out why the heck they added one it didn't make much sense. I wouldn't count on ever seeing a Dragoon with a pet drake ever again.
Well and thats the reason why there shouldnt be a wyvern pet anymore in the future? aha... GOOD REASON!
Aha and why? i really LOVED it, especially cause i'm really into petclasses... although many people thought petclasses are not useful (puppetmaster etc.)... I LOVE them.. because there is a LOT more variety in battle .Quote:
Even in FFXI I cannot figure out why the heck they added one it didn't make much sense.
Its a matter of taste ... for me its not enough to swing a polearm and thats it.. i love hybrid and petclasses... thats what it makes interesting for me.
so i dont understand the ignorance of people like you. sorry.
standard classes are mostly boring for me... hard to say.
only bard and blackmage sound some kind of interesting to me..
i dont get you all...
i totally dont care at all if dragoon has got a wyvern pet traditionally or not... or if it was used to be to ride dragons as a dragoon...
i want the class to be like it was the most fun way to play it... and in my opinion the dragoon was very funny with a wyvern pet. and i cont care at that point if its "not traditional" ok?
for me lancer is almost like a "Dragoon without wyvern pet"... just the jump attack is missing wohoo..
the main classes in FF14 arent traditional either... they are just rip offs from the traditional jobs from the FF series. so in my opinion a "dragoon" job is not really a step forward for a lancer... he is almost like a dragon yet.
and this is really boring.. still not a petclass ingame.. i gonna die. seriously. boring standard classes.
Ya, if/when SE decides to enter wyverns into the equation, they better allow us to actually raise them and grow them into bigger ride-able mounts. I always hated how the wyverns in FFXI always stayed that size and even back then dreamed that SE could have had us grow them into bigger dragons. I'm thinking of Panzer Dragoon now.
no they are boring because they dont want to be the dragoon like that...because in the "traditional" way the dragon hasnt got a pet (and i dont care about this "fact". the point that counts is called "fun")..
And yes my opinion is that it's boring to have no interesting variety in the jobs (pet classes, hybrids)
if you want to play a "dragoon" without pet and with just a freaking polearm.... well in FFXIV its called "lancer" maybe stick with this. and thats just my opinion.
so and you call me sad because i have an other opinion like you? you're "the saddest person on earth" blabla... *yawn* *rolleyes*
no i'm not sad. im really happy. thank you :)
Instead of getting your panties in a bunch about what Dragoon may or may not be(and we know nothing about Dragoon other than it's coming, it has sweet armor and a spear) and insulting other forum members just because they aren't locked into your idea of Dragoon(which as pointed out has only occurred in one instance in the series), why not speculate on what Dragoon COULD be?
Having a traditional model of a Dragoon a la Kain Highwind as a base might offer up some interesting situations. Dragons aren't exactly the easiest things to kill, so it stands to reason that Dragoon is going to have quite the arsenal up its sleeve, whether breath attacks, jump attacks, maybe wyvern transformations or physical augmentations, who the hell knows?
Also as others have pointed out, there will be pet classes(bet it's Tamer/Trainer/Beastmaster) and as confirmed by the Eorzeapedia interview, Summoner is coming. You might still get your dragon in some form or another.
How about instead of being an uncreative sod, you get your mind to working?
i think others get insulted because how come that they can want to have a dragoon with a wyvern pet. "heresy" "the dragoon, which as pointed out has only occurred in one instance in the series"
thats all about the argument... personally me.. i am for variety of jobs/classes... and not just only for new starters in 2.0. ;D compare the standard classes in FF11 with the advanced jobs in Promathia. which were the more interesting and most played ones?
for me personally there would be not that much difference between a dragoon and a lancer (dragoon rip off).. regarding the playstile. like pugilist -> monk as well.. or marauder -> warrior.
because thats what they used to be yet.
yes they plan two and more jobs for each class.. but for now its really standard imho (maybe the real difference will come when they're going to implement a second job (in 3 years after release or so). exept the bard that will make a real difference between an archer and an archer who equips bard as a job. Or gladiator -> paladin . from a pureblooded tank into a healing tank hybrid.
well its the matter of taste if you like a pure blooded melee class with a polearm, which we have yet in the game in form of lancer
to give the dragoon a wyvern pet in FF11 was a real fresh idea, and funny/cool as well. i was never alone :D
but well lets see how a dragoon will be in FF14. but with no real difference in comparison to lancer.. jump attacks, special attacks against dragons to make the difference? hum..
What the hell is with all the people wanting XIV to be another FFXI?
Seriously, you people. Yoshi-P has already said XIV will not be FFXI-2. Stop begging for it. Do you want to kill this game!?
