Independence Day and it was shit.
Haha gj guys
The point about low gear not being made has little to do with optimal rank and a whole lot more to do with the obnoxious crafting requirements for a lot of low rank gear. Most of it requires you have a craft higher than the level of the gear, many pieces require parts of much higher rank than the item itself, many pieces are simply far too expensive to be of worth on the market. The crafting changes will certainly help with that much, especially considering materia.
If the optimal system had been tweaked to offer more visibile and greater penalties for using gear out of optimal it would have forced the same effect. Low rank people would be looking for low rank gear, creating a demand. If the demand is well known enough then people would start selling it. Of course this is all considering the crafting/materia changes as well. With lower rank gear being much cheaper to make it would actually be a good idea to sell it.
Unfortunately it pretty much is set in stone. This is an official response of the intent of direction. Those who were in favor of adjusting the optimal gear system voiced their opinions here but it wasn't enough. There isn't much else to be done but prepare for required rank.
So maybe my reading comprehension is off today, trying to make sense out of Bay's post.
So the new recipes for current gear will have "Required Rank" instead of "Optimal Rank"? Just eventually phasing out the Optimal Rank gear we all currently have? I get upcoming dropped gear from dungeons/raids will have Required Gear, but are they referring to current gear with new recipes getting required rank? Or upcoming gear getting required rank?
Traditionally, with Yoshida, once something is announced that's how it gets implemented. No amount of bitching ever changes more than a slight adjustment. Aggro icons? Came out as announced. Aggro meter? Came out as announced. Quest markers? Came out as announced. Low NMs? Came out as announced. I mention these specifically because they were some of the most complained about and aside from the initial announcement being slightly vague, they were all implemented as announced.
A few things get tweaked like leve changes, battle changes, crafting changes, etc... but it's never far from the initial announcement and implementation.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm on the side of keeping and adjusting optimal but it just doesn't seem like it'll go down that road.
Thank you based Bayohne.
While I agree with rep, why they making all current gear eventually uncraftable? Even things like Dodore Doublet or Tricorne etcz?
Seems like a waste, surely could just switch optimal to required n bam all done?
My guess is there will be a lot of "similar" items. My guess it would be like this...
Old: Dodore Jacket - DEX+4 VIT+4
New: Dodore Coat - DEX+4 VIT+4
The same, and probably same palette. Only a guess however. Or I have this thing wrong all together, still don't 100% understand their intentions.
So they're taking out Optimal Rank? I disagree with that personally (thought a mixture of Optimal/Required was a great idea), but I can see why they would do it.
What I can't see why they would do is phase out ALL of the old gear with Optimal Rank. Seriously? So what can happen is:
A: They release a TON of all new "Required Rank" gear all in one patch, for ALL classes, at ALL levels, with brand new models and designs since we no longer will be seeing the old armor with the old designs. I doubt this will be the case.
B: Take the existing models and designs on armor and make "new" gear that has "Required Rank" on it, at which point you could have just made the already existing gear have "Required Rank" on it. You're screwing players over either way, might as well go all out.
What I fear will happen (and probably will happen) is:
C: You phase the old armor out and very, VERY slowly add the new armor in (as it has been currently), leaving players completely screwed over unable to craft the old designs and the existing old armor already bought up. The only way to get gear being NMs, paying exorbitant prices for the old armor or everyone wearing the one or two same pieces of armor that have trickled out. This option, just for reference, sucks.
Just make all the existing armor have an Optimal Rank on it. It'll screw over some people who have higher rank stuff on currently, but since all the old designs won't be LOST COMPLETELY they can go to the Wards and get level appropriate gear at non-ridiculous pricing (if you think low level gear is pricey now, wait until it becomes "limited edition").
I can't say I agree with this decision at all. It's not unreasonable to maintain the optimal rank system. Especially when you consider they have not yet figured out how to get gear out of our inventory. It's not unreasonable to make optimal rank gear significantly less effective than Level/Class specific gear, but to force us to maintain multiple sets is not fair.
This decision literally mean we will now have to carry 10 sets of gear. Considering how many gear slots there are it also means our entire inventory will now be gear. Unless you are like me and level all classes evenly your have officially been boned.
Last I checked the amount of inventory space required to house gear has been a massive complaint.
You shouldn't need to carry around gear for all your classes at once, and they are simplifying crafting so that you will need to horde less mats if you're the type that hold onto them. Not sure what else you would need to keep on yourself/retainers.
Even if you're only carrying around gear for two classes, if those classes aren't exactly the same level then it's "lol two full sets of gear in your inventory".
They'd better increase inventory size on both yourself and retainers by a lot, because people are gonna need the space very shortly. Common boxes would also be a good idea, or at least a way to reach your retainer's storage without actually being in town. Otherwise with this new system people will run out of space hauling all the armor sets around.
The point of the Class changing system in this game was so that you didnt have to run back to town every time you wanted to do something else. But even that is irrelevant because
Head
Chest
Waste
Legs
Hands
Feet
Ring x 4
Earring x 2
Neck
Wrist x 2
Ammo
Ranged
Pack
Main hand
Off hand
= up to 20 peices of gear per class
x 18 classes
= 360 peices of armour
+ Job specific armour
= potentially 360 more pieces of armour
100 Inventory slots
200 retainer slots
= 300 slots
300 < 360-720
I dunno I carry around stuff for like 6 classes, which is about 4 sets (since i try to save space by having DoL and DoH use the same equipment) and I still have 35 inv spaces. The retainer i use to hold my gear has sets for the rest and some random accessories and that has around 40 free spaces too. Third retainer I use to hold crafting mats/sentimental or event stuff I don't want to throw out and that has around 30 free spaces. You can get a lot of mileage out of multiclass/all classes stuff. An extreme case is being blown out of proportion.
No, it says right in his post "the old recipes will be lost and it will not be possible to make that gear anymore going forward."
All gear that is just an optimal piece and craft seems to be getting phased out and only way to get them will be to buy from existing player who has them.
I figured it was just "optimal rank" versions that would eventually become unable to be made, and the new recipes would make "required rank" versions.
That's funny because certain classes wear the same gear. I maybe use 15 slots max for all my gear. That's every weapon and body pieces. With that all tools crafting gears and still have 30 inv left over so I don't know what some of you are doing :p. I only have crafting mats with me if I'm crafting otherwise why bring them?
I thought the current recipes were going to hang around until 1.20 then be phased out? So now in 1.19 we are going to the simplified recipes only? Is there any way you confirm this Bay? ^.^
That and that current optimal rank gear will exist in the economy alongside required rank gear of the same name? Won't this pose issues for the market ward if someone wants the optimal rank version? It just seems like it would be easier to change all the current gear to match the new gear style.
I personally use Five sets of gear. Light Melee, Heavy Melee, Mage, Crafter, and Gatherer. This would not be possible if all my gear had rank requirement and or class requirements and my classes weren't all the same rank.
Your first notion was correct Arximiro, we are having the old and new recipes side-by-side this coming patch, and the old recipes will be phased out after that.
I do wonder if they will turn all the current gear into Required Rank versions after that point, too.
I still dont see the point of phasing out the current gear, may as well just leave them. Especially if you're just going to readd it again as they'll need to be gear anyway, all seems confusing.
I use one set of gear because market wards and the current crafting system make it more trouble than it's worth to obtain proper gear.
I don't know about old gear becoming 'rare collectibles' since I can't imagine they'll be just throwing away all of the models for it. Since there will be other gear sharing the look, would it be collectible just because it says 'optimal' instead of 'required'?
I guess if you really want to waste your inventory space on treating old gear like beanie babies, there's nothing stopping you.
Possibly.
Cant say im exactly happy with the phasing out of optimal ranked gear. But i now know that my current main stay gear will not be getting turned into materia and will go into my special items vault. That way when a new class comes out i can run around at level 1 in full iron plate just to make people nerd rage.
