Oh, I agree!

I will be taking action by not purchasing anything from the cash shop. I will unsubscribe if I deem it to be no longer worthy paying when I have to pay so much extra. As it happens I couldn't give a toss about Eternal Bond. My and my partner are just disappointed we have to fork out extra for ingame stuff when we already pay monthly.
Other than not pay for the content all I can do is complain in the forums... that's kinda what they're here for...
Already sorted it with my Eternal Bond partner and we plan to pay for the gold plan. Why? Dat vanity.
Is it game breaking? No. Is it gonna break our wallets? Most probably not.
Neither of us were even slightly bothered when it was announced about the paid option. The only other way to get a 2-seat chocobo is through refer-a-friend... and y'all are SERIOUSLY surprised that you have to pay to get one through this?
For god's sake, there is a free option. You still get some/all of the benefits of the bond itself, just without the vanity it seems- is it really the end of the world?
Looks nice. Not enough to make me bother even try for a Gold Wedding, but it's nice.
Because the Black Knights wants us to see how wrong you are about this because it will ALWAYS lead to them doing worse. NEVER take the people at their word, just cry and moan and wonder why they are the minority after all.
There are so many "love it or leave it" posts. That's not how a community/forum works.
Obviously, if people are (not) content with parts of the game/services around it, they should voice their feedback. If one sees nearly every post as a meaningless complaint, fine, but complaining about complaining just seems like a waste of time.
I wasn't even planning on making use of the Eternal Bond system but I think having a free version, without the items we were teased with from the beginning, to be really dishonest. There was plenty of time to say that those extras would cost players more. I guess I should have realized as much when it was being done through Mog Station, but I was naive.
On another note, is this fee one time? i.e., if you divorce and choose to Eternal Bond again and want your Gold Plan ceremony, are you paying full price again? Do you get to keep your items like your choco and fancier wedding clothes? Could you simply do the Free Plan with all of your Gold perks?
Officially gave up on the community. We both have full time jobs, we could both buy everything in the cash shop and not notice it, I could go and have the wedding, and probably won't notice that either. I just don't understand the mentally of paying monthly, then being happy to be locked out of content via a cash shop, game breaking or not.
Done with this thread, I'll just go elsewhere and hope it doesn't amount to anything more than being shafted on vanity and mounts (judging by the way some of you are bumming this we'll be paying for dungeons soon enough. It's OPTIONAL right?!?!?!)
If only we saw this coming. If only SE gave us a clue that they were gonna do some sort of Cash Shop. Oh wait they did. The moment we read and agreed to their ToS. Oh well! what can you do?
What a way to stand by your convictions...
Oh yeah by the by, he CHOSE to spend his money on what he wants, good or bad, that's his right. Last time I checked, I thought you guys want your voices to be heard, not force everyone to pander to you? Yeah I guess this so is virtually a "With Us or Against Us" type of thing rather than be "We want to be heard" type of thing.
hah yeah, if it was free everyone would be marrying random people off the street in ul'duh just to get the mount. kind of removes the point.
Leaving the forums stating he has no idea why someone is buying something of their own volition is happening like it's completely alien to them is not an overreaction? That's absolutely new to me...
And I played those other MMOs that have Vanity Cash Shops(TERA, Vindictus, Aion) and out of those 3, ONLY ONE has turned into that(Aion) and a HUGE chunk of players doesn't support that in the least.
I personally find it ugly. It's the same turkey like the friend recruit mount just with cream topping and flowers. The thing is SE will keep adding things in their shop that you CAN'T take in game. They will keep adding more and more. When a cash shop comes to a game comes to stay forever and get updates all the time. Unless people stop playing and paying and SE watches their numbers fall once again then and only then they will take action.
This is such a bad idea. "Not pay to win"... No, it's a subscription based MMO with an increasing amount of content that requires additional payment for it to feel more worthwhile. I hope this isn't going to set precedent for other content in future patches, by splitting up content for customers... oh wait (-__________-)".
I think we can all agree that $€ is triple-dipping by now:
First, you will have to pay for both the game and expansions.
Second, you will have to pay a monthly subscription.
Third, there is a cash shop, in which you will have to pay...
...If you want the full (vanity counts as content, especially when this game relies so much on the Pretty Factor to get a leg up on WoW and others) experience.
And apparently even when triple-dipping, they cannot afford a larger team (to make proper bare feet, balanced anatomy and so on), better servers (housing, storage in housing, you get the idea), better ISP/server location (so that it wont be faux-quad-dipping as their customers have to use VPNs, which also costs money) and whatever else people have been asking for for quite a while.
I remember feeling disappointment when extra retainers (storage) became a sub-fee thing. Now I'm kinda resigned and annoyed with it all. Especially as they rely so much on Cash Shop Items to create hype.
Just to piss off the whiners... My SO and I are going with the Platinum plan if it isn't too expensive (if it is we'll settle on Gold) because WE WANT TO. This will be fun, something different, and frankly not something anyone else has a say in.
People complain about SE nickel and diming us... if you want to see that, go play DCUO. SE charges us the sub fee, and that's all we have to pay to enjoy the game. Compared to what she and I spent when we played DCUO just to stay current with gear, this will be nothing. A one time fee for a fun and enjoyable event is not a thing she or I have a problem with.
Against it too. We're part of a subscription fee MMO. That means everyone pays out each month to sustain the game and pay for new content. You may think this doesn't affect you since it's vanity, but I can assure you that's a very flawed path of reasoning. Eventually it will.
"Non-essential content" is a loose term. If you want to be particularly pedantic, mounts aren't essential. We can run everywhere. Wait until they start to offer v3 mounts in the cash shop with +20% movement speed. How dare SE give people that pay an advantage. Time to complain? By your own admission, it's "non-essential" that you get somewhere 20% faster. See the problem? "No pay to win!" Yoshida said, and what would anyone be winning getting somewhere just that little bit quicker. Interpretation is key.
It always starts this way and quickly grows out of control. Look at Electronic Arts right now; scourge of the games industry and yet, it all began the same way. It's very difficult to be altruistic when so much money is flooding in and the only opposition is a conveniently muted sense of morality.
I feel a measure of confidence would be restored if they gave us some kind of breakdown as to what the money is actually spent on. From what I've seen, nothing much? Certainly not ridding the game of RMT or fixing some of the gameplay issues present since launch. Sorry guys, but I'm giving my vote of no-confidence here.
I'm definitely uncomfortable with how many things are getting added to the 'cash shop'. I remember in FFXI... I think you only had to pay an ingame gil fee for a wedding, and your ceremony was watched over by an actual staff member of SE who 'ran' it. I remember that it was an actual person because I referred to that person as an NPC in /say, and they literally slapped me and said, "I AM NOT AN NPC." Best wedding ever. My friends never let me live that down. But yeah, there was no cash shop for extra goodies. I really just don't like that. I'm already paying a subscription fee and I will outright refuse to pay for those added things (exception being services like a name change, server change, whatever). I won't stop playing the game over this, though. I'm really disappointed more than anything else. I do hope those of you who are willing to pay this enjoy it, though. I mean that sincerely.
Cash shop tyyyyyy that's the way i saw happ and i have no prob using real cash at all
Pfft, try better next time. The lockout/loot system at DCUO basically requires players to buy Replay badges to reset the lockouts on raid content. Huge loot tables (try twice the size of the ones here) meant you had to run things dozens and dozens and dozens of times to fully gear up in the top armor. If you didn't reset, you'd be lucky (very lucky) to finish gearing before the next DLC in 4 months. If I were compulsive I would have everything in the cash shop... go check my character, I have none of it.
Anyways, this doesn't matter. We are going to enjoy the system, and if you don't like it go take a long walk off a short pier.
I disapprove of this standard/gold split.
I'll never get this mentality of buying things to spite others, even though the people who don't buy blatant cash grabs isn't because they're poor but because they do have money and are just smarter shoppers. I also don't get the mentality of "well others do it too and others do it worse so it's okay when my favorite company does it" but to each their own I guess.
Except the "standard" system is already free so people can take it as "not seriously" as they want. This is gating content behind a paywall, pure and simple.
I am amazed by how people are content that they are getting fcked as consumers. I guess the saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" rings extremly true here. I'll just leave this here:

15 pages of hot air. "Remove the subscription fee or remove the cash shop" lolk. In 5 years you will still be subbed to this game. You will still be complaining about the cash shop, and Eorzea will still be turning.
Enjoy! to those participating in Eternal Bond, standard or gold.
[QUOTE=Numenor1379;2611049]Pfft, try better next time. The lockout/loot system at DCUO basically requires players to buy Replay badges to reset the lockouts on raid content. I played DCUO for a long time doing early kills of the content when it was actually hard and i never used a single $ on reset tokens. If you had to rely on getting the gear the week it came out you probably were bad and that game is a terrible comparison because it's a total pay to win game. And that game started like this one, they kept addaing stuff like power changes and loot reset tokens and ruined it.
Is that what you want for this game??
Where did they talk about the Eternal Bond paywalls?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...eview?sle=true
I found the google document of the translation and the Eternal Bond section does not say anything about pay walls...
On the stream (fast forward to around 1:30:15, and the plans 1:36:30) they announced that there'd be three plans: Standard, Gold, and Platinum, and that the gold and platinum plans would cost money. They said that all the aspects of the ceremony would be covered in the Standard Plan, but Gold/Platinum is basically extras/frills for people who want that.
Again, show how paying for one single item is "compulsive"?
You have no other argument other than "it's not something you should pay for". FINE THEN... go get the FREE Bond. It's right there, no payment necessary. Zip. Zero. Zilch. The only recourse you have is to insult people because they feel like doing something differently than you. Sucks for you that you've already lost this argument as the system is being put in whether you want it or not.
Go pout in the corner, you'll accomplish just as much and won't be irritating the rest of us.
I'm glad we have an understanding that there's no need to pay for it to get bonded.
A bit shady? Perhaps, perhaps not. Many MMOs do this, including pay to play ones. So as long as there's no pay to win option in an pay to play game, I wouldn't call it shady, personally.
It's a subscription game.
The only thing that should cost money is the monthly sub, or things like Fantasia / Transfers / Name changes (basically "system" services).
Leave vanity/minions/weddings etc as in-game rewards etc. It's completely stupid that the Odin mount, along with a bunch of the Scion minions are behind the cash wall. The only exception to this should be the CE editions of the game/expansions.
Although in saying this, I am not completely opposed to selling previous event vanity (such as the ugly ghost costumes), provided that every year - we can get the previous vanity with gil like we always have.
Cash shop should be for the "I missed the event but I want it NOW" crowd.
There's a lot of people doing unlawful and mean stuffs in the world, that doesn't excuse you or me for doing the same.
They're going to introduce a feature for which people have been very excited about since YoshiP said they would start looking into it. Now that they will introduce it into the game they will offer you a basic package for free, but if you want the real deal with all the yummies then you have to cash out some extra aside of your monthly subscription fee. Things are really escalating with this cash shop.
So let's say that tomorrow SE announce that the cash shop was a terrible idea, refund everyone's money and revert all the changes including name changes, fantasia, mounts, minions and reduce everyone back to 2 retainers. We'd just have a different set of people complaining that they can't get what they want.
The cash shop does not bother me any more than it did when it was released. Our sub fee does not pay for everything, as added things require added work. I have no delusions about them giving us literally every penny we pay for back in content; they're a business, afterall. But the "we already pay a subscription!" statement only goes so far. That subscription only pays for so much. If the cash shop is allowing them to provide extra content through transactions, that's fine with me. Perhaps people would be happier if they raised the subscription fee to compensate instead?
What you don't seem to get is people who support this shady double-dipping practice (either through cash shop or through paying out the rear for weddings) are essentially encouraging this sort of behavior and decision-making from SE. They're saying it's okay for them to charge us for things that realistically should have been put in the game we pay 15$ a month for as well as the price of the game as in-game rewards.
Yes, people are free to do with their money what they will, but it's ridiculous to assume people won't call you out on supporting disgusting business practices.
