How they exactly rework the system is up to them but it's painfully obvious they have and never had any plans for the base clases to begin with. They were a relic from the earliest days of 1.0.
The base game should only have the jobs as the classes themselves offer no real alternative play style or advantage in most scenarios of the game. The basic stat bonuses you get from a job crystal often outshine any small advantage being able to cross class a handfull of extra skills ever will.
Chances are eventually you wont be able to be a Rogue anymore...just Ninja. But hell, what do I know chances are they will cling to the class system for unknown reasons.
Well, what if Rogue becomes a job (since Thieves are no more) and Ninja remains a job? Look at their weapons. Rogue uses daggers (the "daggers" GLA had are now converted into swords) an Ninja uses katanas. Their weapons are entirely different, yet they dual wield them.
I guess this is goodbye till spring time. since it will be a waste of money to pay for a game with no content. so i guess is better to save the money and use it for the expansion :)
Outside of job speculation, i think now that we know it will be based off ishgard and dragons.... that the new race will be similar to gria.
1. Gria are part dragon
2. Gria don't want to be misunderstood, I'd be afraid to show my face to dragon hating ishgardians too
3. The npc has what seems to be similar to the Gria tail
4. They look humanoid enough in FFTA that they could save time making it in FF14
Sure there can be argument for other races but the lore is setting it up perfectly for this race.
I think they should keep the class system, but rework it to where job levels aren't directly linked to class levels, and that the classes have different styles that lead into different jobs (ie, GLD sword & board -> PLD, GLD 2-handed sword -> DRK, MRD 2-handed axe -> WAR, MRD dual 1-handed axe -> ???, etc) and also make them more viable in solo-play due to better cross-class options. They could even totally eliminate cross-class abilities from jobs and make them specialized, so that classes have a point.
Classes won't happen because Arcanist is nothing different from Summoner...I don't see them working on Arcanist to make them different.
ahhh yes going back to my homeland cant wait. That drg gear i want it now
Dark Knight Confirmed
(for those that missed it - Mr G said he was thinking of wearing a batman t shirt. Yoshi said that he liked the Nolan batman the best - i.e. dark knight)
Woot.. Dark Knight heavily hinted at/confirmed!
So 3 or more jobs? I don't see them not adding a healer and tank, and Dark Knight is more than likely going to be a dps.
my body wasnt ready
seems Dark Knight confirmed for 3.0
Except they do serve a purpose - it's just players can't stop looking at things through a FFXI-tinted prism. This isn't a Job system like FFXI, here you simply equip a weapon or tool, with the term 'class' little more than a euphemism for the abilities that are connected with the use of that weapon. This system has been FFXIV's selling point since version 1.0. A Job is just a piece of equipment that specializes in a class's role - a PLD is still just a fancy GLA with extra tanking abilities for instance. I don't find anything wrong with this system personally - like I said the community just needs to let go of FFXI's legacy and accept that FFXIV is a different game that has a different means of gameplay.
Also I seriously doubt SE would scrap the Armoury System completely - not only would that require the entire game's battle system to be rebuilt from the ground up, a little common sense is required here. A new class has just been announced (Rogue), with another class long stated as being introduced as well (Musketeer). They're not going to announce all that just to then scrap it a few months later. No, classes are here to stay, they're not being replaced/phased out.
DRK could very easily be a blood tank closer to what they originally intended with WAR. That or we're getting a lance-wielding Lancer-based tank...Templar maybe?
Wouldn't that change make WARs rage if they are locked out of Provoke and Convalescence? Also White Mages and Both Arcanist jobs apparently need Swiftcast so unless the devs for some reason want Conjurers, Arcanists and Marauders to usurp jobs as amndatory for raids and other endgame I don't see that happening
Obviously, WAR would still have access to GLD abilities because GLD is necessary for the job. A Swiftcast-like ability could be given to Arcanist; that would kill 3 birds with one stone (WHM, SCH, SMN). Rebalancing would, of course, be necessary, but this is a full expansion and so some changes are to be expected.
Not likely. With 2.4 likely at the end of this month, that pins 2.5 at the end of January. That would put the next update in April which would drop on top of Heavensward. Basically 2.5-->3.0. Two more small content patches then the BIG expansion. If we're real lucky we could see the expansion in March. 2.5 will be final CT and end of 2.X Main Story so a week after 2.5 drops there's going to be little else other than Final Coil spam until Heavensward so it would be in their best interest not to dawdle and wait out the normal 3 month patch window.
From what I'm seeing and hearing, I bet that the expansion will bring 2 new classes and at least 3 Jobs.
The two classes will likely have one use two handed swords (2HS) and the other guns.
Jobs are likely to include Samurai and Dark Knight.
I expect Dark Knight will either be a 2HS dps job or a Gladiator dps job and Samurai is likely to be a 2HS tank job.
Equipment wise, melee dps/tank main weapon sharing has less problems than caster/healer main weapon sharing due to both melee dps and tanks relying on Strength instead of 2 different stats like Scholar and Summoner do.
Wait wait wait.
If the gold saucer wasn't mentioned in the overview of the expansion, will it be in a patch then? Like say, 2.5? or...... will it be more like in 3.5?
i am thinking 2.4 either some time this month and 2.5 dec 21 3.0 mar 31
Fuark, gonna take me another three months to cap my level I guess Q_Q
2.4 has been confirmed by community reps on the floor that it is on October 28th. Considering the 3 month wait in between patches I would expect Heavensward sometime in May.
2.5 was confirmed like the last patch of the 2.X series, including the gold saucer.
Next week will be the exciting announcements for me hopefully. SAM and DRK are great but there has to be Musketeer included too surely? Here's hoping.
They are not going to just get rid of the class system, because of arcanist>smn/sch, not because of "ffxi hate" as you say. The class system has no purpose in ARR, and if it wasn't because of ACN they could just remove classes or make an advanced class system, leaving the system as is but without an useless remnant.
The class system, not the armory system, lost its purpose when they decided to limit the cross class skills we could equip, unlike in 1.0 where the idea was making your own jobs crossing skills and traits freely, as you can see we can just keep the armory system without the useless class system, and this would even help the servers, because it would alleviate the amount of saved data.
Again, we still have the problem of ACN...
Yeah well, anyone with experience in these forum can anticipate you obvious response....
I like the class system and hope it stays.
I really enjoyed the class system of v1, but since ARR it sucks big time. Now, it's a mere step leading to jobs.
I find it a shame that the dev had the audacity to demolish working systems of v1 like that.
However, if it's the decision they've diced to take, better get rid of it than leaving it as it is now -- a disappointing reminder of something better.
Furthermore, with the new zones being much larger than the current ones, I hope they'll also open up the current ones too. Removal of ALL invisible walls (except zone borders) is definitely needed.
May I request a tweak on jumping as well? It's currently a two speed jumping system, why not make it possible to have a directional jump from an standing position? It would help make small corrective jumps to access places more easily AND it's also more natural, fashionable, sexy, etc.
Finally, I hope that they add more complexity to the game (complexity doesn't mean more mindless grind!!).
I really wish they'd actually go ahead and give each class considerably more mechanics-granting traits than they currently have and have the switch to jobs be about as much sacrifice as gain, leaving classes viable and much more customizable. Jobs should basically be one of potentially many tried-and-proven, and highly iconic, route of a given class (or, use of a particular weapon / weapon style). Of course, that's unlikely to have much effect until we each actually have multiple primary stats (beyond power-health) and real gearing choices.
