You should go back and read that.

^that's because you still have your accessories which give points to Mind. Some WHMs do that for Titan HM or T5. Sacrificing over 100 mind will hurt more.

To the OP, I respect what you're doing but I do think you need to put more attention to Mind. It's called a Primary stat for a reason With Cleric Stance, it affects our DPS. Those dogs in Pharos? I can Stone II / Holy them myself. Same with those Tonberrys in Tonberry King or the adds in Hauke Manor Hard. I often help DPS Demon Wall in AK and it's very possible to beat it before the bees spawn. Mind also increases the HP healed with Regen and Medica 2. With Divine Seal, my Regen and Medica 2 can reach 800-900 hp per tick, enough to save people and myself from those lazers in Ultima HM. With Divine Seal, my Cure 2 can heal 2.3k to 2.5k and almost 3kHP if it crits. It's saved me from having to depend on Benediction many times when I know a well casted Cure 2 can do it.

Just saying that Mind is an extremely important stat for healers. I highly recommend you do what one poster mentioned and use Astral / Rose Gold accessories instead and meld Vitality materia into them. You'll still have respectable HP while not sacrificing your healing output. You're already posting about how succesful your build is, just think about how much better it would be with improved healing.

Also y bother dpsing the adds in my current state? It allows me to just ignore them and dps boss down looool
Like i'm usually the only healer in df parties that say " just burn boss i'll handle or tank adds" they go okay cool" they burn the boss we win, easy lol
And in pharos sirius, when the hatchlings er... Hatch lol i just let them aggro onto me while dps and tank burn zu, since none of them die. Zu won't go ham and plummet 1 of the dps. I'm just like yea okay cool let that tasty barf spit hit my face and let them peck me lol. I'll just divine seal and heal away lol

Why do people hate on tanky healers ?
Primarily because that's not our job (tanking) , it's not that bad as long as you know you can still heal and get through the run. (We’re not alone running dungeons and we actually don’t need to heal every time they hurt and sometime they don’t hurt at all) if you've cleared the dungeon like 10x +already if you’re still not dependable go play tetris or w/e.
We play how we want to play; it just goes negative when we drag others down along our game play surprisingly I haven’t seen any negative replies from the tank type healers it’s always “yeah I’m a tank type healer and I got through this and that” so I’m figuring ok that’s good. I’m actually not thinking too much of my gear atm , I’m at the point of the game where I haven’t done too much dungeon runs because of my intermittent internet connection so I just go level whatever I could to pass time. :rolleyes:

This proves that healers ( especially whm ) can do a dps's job while dps cannot do a healer's job.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, a WHM shouldn't need to cast more then Stoneskin and Regen on the tanks, Cures on DPS who take unneeded damage, any tank damage can be healed by the SCH or Fairy since it's minimal at best unless it's in Sister Phase. Garuda Ex is a very easy fight for healers and there's many times where Stoneskin alone will pretty much add 3+ more DPS (both healers in Cleric Stance and PLD using Sword Oath).

This still doesn't justify using tanking accessories since the extra mind will convert into more DPS while in Cleric Stance

A big reason why hardly anyone brings 2 healers to that fight anymore. Even solo healing it I have a lot of time to throw DPS in, it's only the sisters phases which require a decent amount of healing.

Especially whm? Im pretty confident that a SCH would out dps a WHM and STILL have great heals coming from their pets lol

In this game dancing and survival are the main challange. The "healing" is very easy.. if you just stay alive. Tanky build ftw!

If you hit a required threshold, there's no reason to go for higher HP. Once you hit 4.4k HP on any job that's not a PLD or WAR, then any extra is supposed to be bonus from getting your natural BiS gear, there's no reason at all to gimp yourself just so you can stand there and take hits when you don't need to.

i go ahead and use a tank ring because i don't have another healing ring yet. It gets me over 4000 hp where i would have 3600 something. people don't notice, they think i'm more geared than i am. It's pretty helpful in surviving big aoes. Vortex ring of fending, so i also benifit some from the crit and det on it, so i feel it's a pretty good item to use in place of a real accessory.

I feel that if you're dying as a healer, you either sucked, or had your tank sucking. Either way, you took aggro or didn't dodge properly....I prefer an easier life with stronger heals every heal I set, than an easier life once every month cause I had been lazy and made a mistake (or had a lazy tank who made a mistake).

Dancing is more difficult than healing. This whole game is tuned around your ability to dance. Healing is easy... very easy if everyone know how to dance. Many encounters could probably be healed with 1 healer... as long as he stays alive.

I'm not talking about wearing tanking accessories. I am talking about occasionally melding +8 vit for nearly another hundred HPs instead of a miniscule gain to a tertiary stat...

I'm usually in the "let anyone play how they want to play and have fun if it works for them" camp, but:

1. OP's manner of speaking (typing) is atrocious, immature and occasionally disrespectful (the response on the last page about the lol thing for example).
and
2. This thread is titled "Why do people hate on tanky healers", people then proceed to give OP an answer, and then those answers are stepped on, all with the air of someone that does not care about that answer in the slightest.

Which tells me:
1. OP does not actually care about the answer to the question asked.
and
2. Likely only made this thread for attention or to laugh about the contention that it is causing.

Play however you want, but understand that if that playstyle is considered a detriment to the group and mostly self-serving, that you will get criticism for it. And even if you can handle your job despite it, that doesn't make that criticism not valid.

Using full crafted accessories is fine as long as they're for your intended role. I still use an Astral Ring on my WHM (mainly because I can't get a better ring to drop) and that has +8 VIT on it. tanky healers in 1.0 was acceptable because gear didn't make a huge difference on heals, but in 2.0 the extra healing really can make a difference. my average cure1's are like 1075 and my cure2's upwards of 1800. if you have to tank anything in the first place you're doing it wrong or your group is doing it wrong. play however you want in your own privacy but when you're playing with a group I don't think it's fair to them to not be playing your role the best you can.

this thread is pretty pointless though, OP just wants to brag and justify his/her reasons while not being interested in anyone elses opinions.

Nah this thread was just to share the insights of the poster who wish to post on this thread. I never said i was going to take ppls advices, as i witnessed ppl started to feel entitled to thinking this is a " give advice to OP " thread.
All i cared for was what were ppls thoughts and experience of this build.
But nope ppl turned this into an
"OP is dumb and invalid, we know everything and should push that onto everyone else" thread in the end.

My opening and title never said that i would take ur advice and play with it.
All it meant was that
"WHY" do people hate tanky whm.
Some people managed to answer this and share their opinions but others failed to and just gave me why i suck and i should either build like the prefered method or stop playing lol.
So thanks to all the people who answered my question.
And to all the people who didn't,
Have fun being bored with cookie cutter builds that will make u play like everyone else that thinks like u, and then proceed to question that the game is too easy and is boring.

As others pointed out, people "hate tanky healers" because of the lesser mind and piety equating to lower cure numbers and less MP. That's pretty much it.

Nothing wrong with playing how you want, if you find the normal gear setup for party healing more boring than with tank accessories that's your opinion I guess (I don't see how being a healer with tanky HP is more fun than healer with more MP though, to each his/her own). And if you can keep up with the heals while having a lower cure amount and less overall MP all the better. Doesn't matter as long as you can play your role effectively for whatever you're doing. The "cookie cutter" builds are just the most efficient and preferred for the role.

It just felt too awkward for me and i actually think i healed worse lol....
So i just got another 10k seals and specd back into 30 vit and re assume my quest as the healer that never was.

Cuz gear=\= skill.

While as true as this is. The better gear you have the higher the available skill bar is raised. Skill won't save you if you run out of MP during a fight.

Yeah like seeing my health drop to the same level as others and not seeing that 5.7k hp made it feel weird.
And that with my current healing rotation i felt like i could half ass it and still out heal other people and get away with it.
Like i felt there was really no worry on my end.
It just threw me off i guess and the fact that i built myself to be tanky before 2.1.
So i guess i can't play without the gimp XD

To echo this but with an analogy:
Let's say there's a rampant water shortage in town and people gotta get their tubs filled with water. The only source of water is a well in the woods that is full of obstacles--large rocks to climb over, steep hills that are prone to landslides after rain, dogs and hobos that will chase you around, and other stuff.

Now let's say that you're like a super star athlete. You took your high school water-filling team to state and were super pro and then played a bit in college. You could probably fill those folks' tubs no prob. However, to fill the tub, you are given two coffee mugs. Not the most efficient way and certainly a little less room for error but you're pretty confident that those tubs will get filled.

Contrast this with your idiot neighbor who owns a golf cart with a water cooler. He might bumble around a bit--maybe hit a tree or two--in that cart and maybe lose more water than you in one trip, but his margin for error is larger since he's got that cooler and all. Also, he is likely moving faster than you.

Most people and PUGs--not knowing that your neighbor is an idiot or that you were pretty 1337 in high school and college--are going to want their tubs filled by your neighbor. You could change their minds, but you're going to have to fill a LOT of tubs faster and more efficiently than your neighbor before that happens.

Your skill would prevent u from running out of mp.
But if u do run out of mp after doing everything u could ( i.e using potions, conserving mp/ timing shroud, utilizing free cure etc. ) then that isn't ur fault and not really a problem on ur end. Cuz its either that people were taking too many unnecessary hits or the fight was dragged out longer than it should have. Or the worse, having to raise a couple of people because they died to something dodgeable.

Or because you don't have enough mind and you need to cast more spells to get the same results than other healers resulting in to you being out of mana. And because your heals aren't effective enough, the other healer needs to carry more of the group then intended so he runs out of mana faster as well.
Its easy to shift the blame but from the start you are already gimping yourself because you want to be more tanky.

1) unless the other healer is full i90 on the left gear side. They cannot be compared to another healer with full left i90.
