Exactly. FFXI launched in a very bad state, and nothing much bigger than what we saw here has been implemented in the first few months. The big content influx started later, when the basics of the games were somehow fixed.

While you can't compare the two as FFXI has been out for a long time, I am still some what disappointed that with all the experience they gained from FFXI seems to has been completely disregarded. It's almost as if they put everything they learned from FFXI into a big box labled "Do Not Use".
Looking at FFXIV you would think this is their first MMO and hadn't spent 5+ years in development.
I lol'd +1 sir.
I would take leveling pain over leveling boredom any day of the week.Quote:
i remember 11s launch(which is more fair to compare to 14s)
not much gear to find
leveling was a pain
there wasnt any content(not like you needed it when you were trying to level still)
the content we did have was the shadowlord(that was endgame til zilart, not counting a few NMs)
gil was scarce(so was gear)
get the point?
Nothing much bigger? Are you sure you read that list? They had alevel cap increase, new spells, abilities, mobs, missions, quests, etc.. maybe you should read it again?
This is exactly as I say, SE didn't use enough of their FFXI formula in FFXIV, as Yoshi-P said so himself in an early 'Letters from the Producer' the initial dev team focus on FFXIV was to make it different from FFXI which is acceptable. However the formula was practically ignored and annoying revisions such a renaming the same exact races, and shortening combat time with less mob HP were made. Not even mentioning the state of XIV at launch.
I still don't get your point. When I first started playing the north american release:
Can't say for certain if BCNMs were in the game at the time or not, as I quit playing for several months for personal reasons unrelated to my enjoyment of the game.
- I could find a party to exp with.
- I could do my outpost supply quests.
- I could do my missions.
- I could do my chocobo license quest.
- I could do my kazham quest (or save up gil to buy the airship pass)
- I could do scroll quests.
- I could build up conquest points for conquest items.
- I could unlock extra jobs and level those.
- I could unlock the support job feature.
Yah, we have quests in FFXIV... that give what exactly? Junk? Yah, what fun!
Yah, we have faction credits in FFXIV... that give what exactly? NM guildleves that give disappointing endgame gear? Yah, what fun!
Most of this stuff took a long-ass time to do too, which made it much more rewarding in the end.
