Welp, the Xbox version is dead in the water. What were they thinking?

Did people actually believe that Xbox was going to be able to pull in a good amount of players?

Pretty sure this was predicted. Apparently the last time they tried to negotiate for XIV on Xbox there were a lot of awkward demands, like MS wanted XIV players on their platform to have their own servers.

I already said it multiple times on this forum and got laughed at for it, the xbox release isnt going to bring that many players to the game, honestly, i'd say compared to the entire playerbase, it'll be barely anything, the people that wanted to play FFXIV for the past few years invested in either a PS4/5 or on a low cost PC (or a decent PC), they had ample time to find a console or PC that works with FFXIV, this xbox release will do nothing to the sub numbers or barely nothing, certain people pretended that "xbox is going to make dynamis be a good dc and bring it to life !!"

im curious what ffxiv devs/ yoshi P will say about this, if anything. i have a sad feeling he couldnt stop this going ahead, cemeneted even more by the ceo being at fanfest and shaking his hand while yoshiP smiled uncomfortably. ffxiv becomming squares best selling game was ironically the worst thing to ever happen to it. i want to hope the devs are internally unhappy about these changes being made to the game, and that they dont support them

If it does cost two subscriptions on Xbox, I'm really hoping playstation doesn't follow Xbox's method and require PS+ and the FF sub. :-/

main thing i notice is more and more "throw away" games and less "gems" now i actually like KH and FF7r, i appreciate its an untitled sequel and as such i expect nothing like the original. as for kh i am hopefuly 4 will be better than 3 even tho 3 wasnt even that bad just really confusing. but latley i see them put out more of these mobile games for quick easy cash and its just such a waste, reminds me of disney actually

A friend of mine who's addicted to Gatchas literally doesn't touch SE gatcha games because they die within 2 years.

I mean you have to understand that both sony and ms are greedy: games, by default, are required to check for a psn+/xboxlive subscription to enable online play. Those are their rules, and online games usually have to go out of their ways to implement them. Exceptions can be negotiated (as for all the other platform rules) but they are exceptions, and you probably have to demonstrate that the rule can't apply to your game or would be extremely damaging to it. (Also for all we know the deal between sqex and sony might very well be that sqex pays a % of the sub fee to sony to make up for the psn+ sub not being mandatory)

Myself I simply don't purchase consoles or play on them. I just don't see the point of playing on under-powered PCs controlled by greedy manufacturers, but maybe that's just me.

I think this was the same case when they had FFXI on the 360. You had to have XBL Gold on top of the FFXI sub in order to play it on that console

its honestly a shame. they have some really talented industry giants working there. (nomura, sakaguchi, yokotaro, matsuno, akira toriyama) why not invest in another big franchise instead of these easy cash grabs

Historically that's how it's gone. Company A starts doing some outlandish crap. Customers of Company A go along with it. Company B sees this and goes "damn, we could be doing that too!" and does it. Then Company C takes note and they start doing it as well. Before we know it, it just becomes the standard and people are like "it's always been this way!" Hell, I remember when Microsoft was just starting to charge a sub fee to use the online service, and I was on my ps3 thinking that was the dumbest thing ever. Then Sony realized it worked and started doing the same exact crap, but at least nintendo wasn't doing it. Then nintendo started doing it too, lmao

Anyway, that's a real shame. I can't imagine paying 2 subscriptions for a game that gets like 3 "major" updates a year. Can barely justify the one tbh
