Because they were smart to allow people who weren't 75 to enjoy a good story and expansion pack. Though I'm sure you were being sarcastic anyway.

For a story line as long as CoP I think SE made he right choice to implement level caps. You can only make so many cap level fights before they all become generic. Also it provided content for those who weren't at cap, breaking up the grind in FFXI.
I went through CoP pretty much as I leveled, grinding pt's in order to keep up with my static and loosing a lot of sleep lol...but it was nice because it was almost like I was watching my character grow. I don't know why CoP in particular invokes so much passion in ex FFXI players, maybe it was the allure of seeing one of the most beautiful crafted areas in the game, maybe it was the fact that it forced you to become close to those who faced the journey with you, maybe it was just the simple pursuit of loot at the end, but it all felt very rewarding.
I'd love to see another CoP style mission line, but I fear we may never see it. From what I'm getting from FFXIV, it doesn't particularly force a close community and I don't really see that in the future.
Because it makes so much sense to have a level cap. You can get to Lv.50 in about 2-3 days. There is no reason to have a level cap when you easily get to the max level cap. SE thought they were making content for everyone with CoP because it took more time to get to max level.
Anyone who says they did CoP for the storyline is only remembering what they want to remember. If we are going to be truly honest let's just be honest and say people only did CoP for the rings and sea access. Otherwise a lot of people would have rage quited the storyline and never touched it again.
Promyvion was not an interesting dungeon. If it was implemented today, everyone would be raging about how you would spam the Recepticles with RNG and BLM. Honestly what I remember about the dungeons was Sneak+Invisible and pray the Tauri don't turn around when you're climbing up a ladder. It didn't take any extra skill, level caps only increase the time it takes to accomplish something, especially without your Dark Staff. The level cap dungeons would just turn into a run through to where we need to go.
CoP release feeling = massive rage cuz almost no one could figure out the content and even when they did it was so hard luck factored into it massively, and you had to have exact settups to win or else you stoood no chance in hell
They need to bring a lot of things that made FFXI awesome in to FFXIV. CoP was fun and hard at the same time, made you want to call out sick from work and play all day and night. FFXIV has nothing that makes me want to play all day and night, they are making things too easy...
Any system that relies on the correct type of people operating it is flawed. In a well designed system the players' self-interest guides them to help the entire community. This is how capitalism works and why it's the most efficient way of distributing factors of production.
The CoP mission structure was not perfect. It did not incentivize players who had already beaten it to return to it. The same problem plagues the tough job quests in FFXIV. One solution off the top of my head would be to offer a modest amount of grand company seals for beating a job AF fight.
Nonsense. It took SE a long time to finish the CoP mission line and there were no rewards at all until it was fully implemented, yet people, me included, loved it. In terms of actual item rewards CoP was actually an incredibly poor way to invest your time and effort.
I've done CoP when it was level cap, and I was lucky because my LS did them together. After that I've seen people who is not as fortunate as me struggle to get groups together, as a result they were stuck in towns shouting to no ends until level cap restrictions was lifted. If there was any expansion that deserves praise, for me it is Rise of the Zilart.
A good thing FFXIV is bringing to the table is the content finder system. Another thing they should implement to help those struggling is a system to encourage players to help, like a mentor system that rewards the helpers with bonus xp, seals, and items.
Something like CoP from FFXi would give this game substance, which it DESPERATELY needs.
